Typo Squad: Book II: Return of the Wordmonger
The quest to find Anton Nym and his errorist army are put on hold as Typo Squad is called away to London to help one of their own confront a villain from his past — a mysterious foe known only as the Wordmonger. Joining forces with Her Majesty’s Royal Typo Brigade, Typo Squad takes up residence in Buckingham Palace to try and draw out this dangerous madman. A Good Pun is its Own Reword
I absolutely adored the first book of the series. It appealed to my sometimes bizarre sense of humor. As a freelance editor and proofreader with 30 years’ experience in the field, I loved that this author created a book all about my tribe. In a world where typos can kill most of the populace, he makes us heroic, taking down errorists, those who would kill one or many with a spelling or context error! What’s not to like? This book hits the pause button on Dick and Typo Squad’s continuing battle with Anton Nym and takes part of the team across the pond to help fight team member Ewan Hoozarmi’s old nemesis from when he worked for Typo Brigade (the UK’s Typo Squad equivalent), the one case that still bothered him years later. I loved that Princess Anne, who was part of the focus of the story, is actually immune to typos like members of the Squad and Brigade, and her tic is quite humorous. I think this book has my favorite character name in any book to date, Weatherbee Friendorfoe. It sounds so British, of course, and is a pun like just about every name in this series. So far, I have found these Typo Squad books to be so much fun on so many levels. I enjoy the puns, of course, and the book has many of them. I find the dialogue to be both realistic and quite humorous at times. I loved the fish-out-of-water vibe with the Americans staying in Buckingham Palace to protect the Royal Family. Chris “Big” Whig is a particular delight, adding much humor—and causing some problems—to the story. The rekindling of the old relationship between Princess Anne and Ewan was fun to watch. I am very much looking forward to the third book of the series.

A writer and editor’s delight
Such a fun book and series! The wit and pacing are excellent, as always. Every nuance is intentional and pun noted. You can tell the write has fun writing this. The dialog between the characters is great, flows well and each character has his own diction.
This is my favorite so far. Love the locale and plot.
On a personal Note:
I felt a deep connection to Princess Anne when I discovered that on occasion, she too removes her clothes and sings the National Anthem. Art truly does reflect life doesn’t it?
