Rate this book
With a reputation for underhanded business deals, real estate developer Matthew Archer is as charming as he is untouchable. Political connections and lucrative city contracts have turned his unassuming company into a powerful development firm, and Matt has never been afraid of bending the rules to get what he wants.

All that changes when he collides with the city’s new district attorney, Alex Price. Dedicated to cracking down on years of shady politics, Alex enlists Matt as an insider ally. But when a spark of chemistry and a less than honest collaboration quickly spiral into something more, Matt finds himself falling for Alex faster than he’s prepared for.

As Alex’s investigation leads him toward a corruption scandal rooted deep in the past, Matt realizes he might not be able to protect both his business and his heart against a man who could take everything from him. And as the two men find their professional and personal lives increasingly entangled, they begin to understand that the law can cut both ways.

Excellent!! Such a wonderful read this turned out to be. I’ve had this book on my tbr for a looong time and though I knew I put it there for a reason I never found the right time for it. I’m even aware that maybe it’s not quite a 5 stars read but I was so engrossed in it and so pleasantly surprised that I based my decision totally on my emotions . I have to admit I like less popular books, books that don’t have the ideal romance , the comercial type of romance and intense love declarations that are quite popular these days . I like more subtle romances and with a bit of realism in them, I like them less perfect .This book here is like that..I loved both characters because they were realistic and I liked their gentle story. Ok, the ending could have been a bit better and less “convenient” but it kind of worked.
Matt is a straight 33 years old , he is raising his little brother (17 now) while trying to have a successful business . They both try to get over a traumatic childhood and Matt would do anything to keep his brother, even bribing city council members and entering a ring of corruption. When he meets Alex he is baffled by his reactions towards him because Alex is a man and he was supposed to be straight. Not only that, but apparently Alex is the district attorney who is currently investigating the city council corruption ring Matt was a part of. The entire book we see him struggle with his growing attraction towards the enemy aka Alex and later with his guilt for lying to Alex.
And Alex is such a pure soul, he is kind and sweet and very much in love with Matt. He doesn’t even suspect that Matt is one of the “bad guys” he’s after. It is heartbreaking when he finds out 🥺. I loved this book, I love its simplicity, I loved the writing and the characters..Matt’s sexual awakening was also very realistic and natural and their intimate moments were raw and beautiful . So yeah, 5 stars though it’s more a case of : 4 stars rounded up to 4.50. 🤣🤣 (Because the end was a bit too fairytale-y)

haha, totally forgot about reviewing. So here are a few quick thoughts. ♡

Great read that kept me hooked throughout!

I’m being investigated by the very district attorney I’ve been fucking lately. […] Now I’m trying to decide whether I like him more than I like my life outside of prison.

- fantastic chemistry between the mcs from the beginning
- conflict of interest
- first m/m experiences
- gay author

“I couldn’t bear to lose you, you know that.”
Carson observes me, his expression serious.
“I’m talking about Alex.”
“What about him?”
“Fight for him like you fought for me.”

In hindsight I’d say the writing and way of storytelling (especially with the transitions from chapter to chapter) was a bit choppy and could’ve used a bit more polish. But while I noticed it, I didn’t mind it all too much while reading.

**3.5 stars**

First time I read this author : no regret, the way Chase Potter writes worked very well for me and I found myself picking up this book whenever I could.

At 33, Matt is a successful real estate developer and guardian of his young half-brother, Carson. During a football game, he meets Alex Price, a new district attorney on the rise and known for his integrity. Something in Alex catches Matt’s attention and, despite never having had any prior attraction to men and anxious about Alex’s investigation on a real-estate corruption implicating him, Matt can’t deny that being with Alex feels good.

This is a steamy slow burn, told in Matt’s POV, oriented towards Matt’s being more than attracted to a man, his care for his half-brother and his struggle with his shady business. As the blurb states, ”Matt realizes he might not be able to protect both his business and his heart against a man who could take everything from him”.

I really enjoyed reading about the development of this relationship between Matt, honestly dealing with his feelings and Alex, being so patient with Matt. As for Carson, he was a delightful secondary, but important, character.
What dampened my enjoyment was the wrapping of this story in only a few chapters, regarding the relationship, the investigation, and Alex’s choice : not developed at all and conveniently wrapped up imo. After such goodness, the HEA felt rushed and left me uneasy, even tough I was of course rooting for it.

Unsatisfactory ending, but great relationship development.

3.5 stars rounded up. Christelle said it all and said it well.

I suppose that I'm becoming a pickier reader because, unless it's about a time-traveling vampire suffragette, I find myself needing more authenticity in romance novels. With Corrupt, Chase Potter wrote an accessible and engrossing story that focused on self-discovery and family affirmation as much as the romance. Potter's characters and their challenges felt real, and I got what I needed.

Matt puts the "corrupt" in the book's title. But he's no Gordon Gekko wannabe. Many of his business dealings were not on the level, but he did what he did to save his younger brother, Carson, and provide him the stability and opportunity that he lacked. Teens in romance novels are hit-and-miss for me, but Carson was a hit and I enjoyed his scenes.

This may make me a bit sick, but I LOVE the "falling for someone while deceiving them" trope in romance. It has to be well-executed, though, and I have to believe in the character's redemption. Both happened here. For the very first time in his life, Matt is developing very real feelings for a man. Alex, the District Attorney investigating Matt's business associates (and potentially Matt himself), is the last man that he should fall for. But Matt's feelings for Alex are as inevitable as they are consuming. Matt wants Alex, and he wants to be better for him. While there was angsty goodness to go around, there was also a respect and honesty and rawness that made Matt deserving of Alex.

While there were many moments in Corrupt that were deeply affecting and passionate, others were more stilted and superficial, and some parts felt a bit repetitive. Alex was sweet and sexy, but his development was limited by the first-person single narration. My chief complaint was the fairly abrupt ending - I wanted more closure, more HAPPY. An extended epilogue would have served Matt and Alex well.

This was my first Chase Potter story, and I really enjoyed it. Recommended read.

What to you do when you've done some shady business dealings and it's coming back to haunt you...and you're falling in love with the guy investigating you?

This is a story about white collar crime, a guy who was forced into a hard choice, and he chose the wrong one - but he's not a bad guy. This story shows how our world is truly made of of shades of grey, not black and white.

What Matt does is illegal, it wasn't good, but he's not a bad guy. He did it all for his brother, Carson, who he had to become the sole guardian of at quite a young age - 23 - and when Carson's mother wanted custody of him two years later, when Carson was 9 and Matt 25, Matt felt backed into a corner and so he goes down the wrong road in order to pay the legal fees of being able to keep Carson and provide for him.

I think that Matt could have gone a different way - it would have been a harder way, but I think he could have. He could have at least tried to ask for help - although from who, I don't know. So maybe that's what Matt thought too, that he wouldn't get anywhere by asking for help, or getting a different job, what have you. Still doesn't make what he did right, but it certainly makes it understandable.

And poor Alex :( Matt wasn't playing him one bit, but Alex still fell for him, and thus when things come to light...well, it was a tough decision for Alex, that's for sure.

I felt both mad at Matt and not at the same time. I felt like he'd done wrong and he was an idiot for doing what he did, because it caught up with him eventually, as these things tend to do - but I also loved how he eventually faced what he did and didn't lie and evade once it came to light, and that he was prepared to face the consequences.

It hard to read this at times with the constant knowledge of Matt's corruptness hanging over his head - and even as he was falling for Alex that was always there, lingering in the background.

They had great chemistry, and Alex was the sweetest guy, and yeah, maybe Matt didn't deserve him, but i think he was trying to by the end - deserve him, that is - and that he could come to deserve him in the future.

Overall this was an enjoyable book, and I recommend it. It asks some tough questions too - what one can forgive, what does love mean if the person you fall for has done something illegal? Do you stand by them or...what? When emotions are involved, when LOVE is involved, when it's personal, it becomes a lot harder of a question to answer, about what you would do, and this book tackles that question.

But Matt and Alex did have a wonderful love for each other and we do get a sweet HFN, which I didn't know how it was gonna happen. But it happened, after everything, so yay!

I loved the premise, and even though I was initially thrown by how easily/quickly, Matt fell for Alex, I really liked their chemistry and the relationship development felt organic. I especially liked Matt’s relationship with his younger brother, Carson. I couldn’t fault any of their scenes.

As enjoyable as it was, however, I do wish it could have been fleshed out further, especially that ending. I was left with a few questions/niggles.

Rating: 1.5 stars (rounded down)

My rating for this one is mostly based on the extremely misleading blurb and general marketing for this book. Everything about the book is set up to make you think you're getting a dark, intense romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Instead, it's a bland, low angst, predictable romance between two nice guy MCs. I'll prove it to you. Ready? Okay.

So the title is Corrupt. The cover is a dark color, showing a cocky businessman wearing an expensive suit. This is how Matt is described in the blurb:

With a reputation for underhanded business deals, real estate developer Matthew Archer is as charming as he is untouchable. Political connections and lucrative city contracts have turned his unassuming company into a powerful development firm, and Matt has never been afraid of bending the rules to get what he wants.

And here's how Alex (the DA) actions are described in the blurb:

Dedicated to cracking down on years of shady politics, Alex enlists Matt as an insider ally.

And here's what the main conflict supposedly is:

As Alex’s investigation leads him toward a corruption scandal rooted deep in the past, Matt realizes he might not be able to protect both his business and his heart against a man who could take everything from him.

All of this led me to have very specific expectations for the book. I put it on my romantic-suspense list. I expected Matt to be a selfish, calculating, morally corrupt character. I expected Alex to be just as intelligent and aggressive as Matt but Alex is the angel warrior in contrast to Matt being the demon warrior. I hope you get what I'm saying. I thought this would be an epic battle between two ruthless and smart men who are gunning to beat each other at the legal games they're involved in, but they also happen to find each other attractive and enjoy having sex with each other so when they fall in love, it presents a huge moral dilemma for both of them. My only concern before starting the book was that the power plays might be too complicated for little old me to keep up with. I had a notepad sitting next to me so I could take notes and hopefully keep up with the epic power maneuvering that I was going to read about.

HA. HA. HA. HA.

This book had NONE of that. NONE. OF. IT.

Matt isn't a ruthless, corrupt criminal mastermind. Did Matt commit criminal acts? Yes, absolutely. But his motivations throughout the entire story are always focused on the wellbeing of other people (ex. he spends the majority of his money to give Carson good experiences and set Carson up for a good future). He was far from the ruthless, calculating criminal mastermind that I was expecting.

Then there's Alex's so-called 'investigation'. The blurb makes it seem like this scheme is a massive case that steers the direction of the entire story. It doesn't. Alex gets an anonymous tip-off that something shady might be happening related to zoning applications with the city, but that's one tip of many that he regularly gets. He talks to some people, gets no info and pretty much puts it on his backburner. The blurb states that Alex 'enlists Matt as an insider ally'. No, he doesn't. Alex asks Matt a few times if he knows anything about zoning issues with the city council, Matt plays dumb and says no, Alex believes him and they continue with life. Sure, at the very end of the story, so I guess he's cooperating with the investigation at that point, but that happens in the very end of the story.

For the majority of the book, this is a predictable, low angst romance with the only conflict coming from Matt being scared that Alex will find out about Matt's involvement in the scheme. The story follows the exact same pattern as a typical MC-with-hidden-criminal-record scenario would go. There's no investigating. There's no tension. There aren't cat-and-mouse games being played between the MCs. Alex thinks Matt has nothing to do with the zoning situation so their romance proceeds exactly the way the majority of bi-awakening stories go: they have lots of sex, Alex is worried that Matt is just experimenting and Matt angsts over what sexual orientation label to apply to himself etc. My little notepad stayed blank throughout the entire story.

If the story had been marketed as being what it was, then I would have likely given it 2 stars (in actuality, I wouldn't have bothered reading it but let's pretend I accidentally picked it up). It was boring and predictable but there were some enjoyable parts. I adored how Carson was written and what he added to the story (the kid is 17 years old throughout the present timeline). I loved the flashbacks that were used throughout the story to reveal how and why Carson came to live with Matt and how Matt got involved in the zoning thing. The smut scenes were interesting because of the author's unique decision to emphasize certain not-very-sexy details that most authors gloss over. For example, Matt has never had gay sex before so things don't go perfectly - Matt has trouble getting things lined up properly (if you know what I mean), he's fascinated by Alex's sweaty man smell and at having two sets of cum to deal with (since Matt is accustomed to being the only guy in bedroom scenarios). It was also great how the author had Alex slowly integrate into Matt and Carson's tiny family and how they all bonded. Unfortunately, none of this was what the marketing for the story made me believe I was going to get.

In particular, the ending was a complete letdown. Throughout the entire story, there's been the looming threat of . I was curious how the author would deal with the situation but as the story kept progressing and we kept getting repetitive smut scenes, cute date scenes and adorable family bonding scenes, I lost hope that the author had any plans to take the corruption investigation seriously. Sure enough, my fears ended up becoming reality.

I was so annoyed by this because it was a lazy storytelling choice. The author wanted to market their story as being filled with suspenseful criminal stuff and intense investigations that threaten Matt's freedom. But clearly the author didn't want to create anything more than a generic, bland cookie cutter romance. At the end of the story, . I'm irritated by this because the author could have so easily made things more interesting. If Matt had cooperated with the investigation throughout the story, he could have gotten a lighter sentence. His lack of a criminal record may have even meant that he would have gotten away with probation or just serving a few months. And because the courts move at a snail's pace, there's a good chance that before Matt had to go to prison. In fact, I've heard of cases where the judge delays imprisonment time for cases like Matt's. I would have liked the story so much better if Matt had been forced to pay for the crimes he committed instead of him getting to skip off into the sunset as if nothing had happened. If Matt had been a bad guy character then I would have loved having him screw over the system one last time and getting away without scratch but that's not the type of character Matt was.

Overall, this was a big disappointment. Not only was it a bland and predictable romance but the marketing was very misleading and I would even label some aspects of the blurb as being outright lies. I picked up this story wanting to read what was promised by the cover, title and blurb and I didn't get anything close to that.

I always enjoy Chase Potter, and this was no exception. I wish it had been a bit longer, as I needed just a bit more from the relationship and the plot...I wanted to see both more fleshed out than they were, and I wish I knew a bit more about Alex (Matt's love interest).

This was still a really great read, though. This author has a knack for making his characters feel very authentic; he gives them quirks, habits, and hobbies that make it easy to love and grow attached to them. I absolutely loved Matt's relationship with his younger brother, Carson, and I wish we'd had a few more flashback scenes with the two of them, because they were wonderful. Actually, every scene with them was wonderful.

I was a bit leery that the "corrupt businessman falls for district attorney" plot would put the romance on the back burner, but this wasn't the case at all. Chase Potter did a great job balancing both. I zoomed through the entire book in less than a day.

Chase Potter is such an underrated author in this genre, and it bums me out when I see so few reviews for his books! Check him out!

Okay, friends. I got an arc of this book - I know, I know - it was because I had been betareading other books for Chase and he wanted to gift it to me. Now...I haven't betaread this one but HOT DAMN...this book is GOOD. SO GOOD.

I really didn't feel to enthusastic about this whole story - the "bending the rules, shady politics, corruption scandal"-theme is not my thing. So there was some apprehension I wouldn't feel comfortable BUT....did I already mention, this book is good.
I'll tell you why.
Matt is a complexe human, a man, who is raising his teenage brother Carson, a man with his own problems, scrupels and morals. He's been facing obstacles in his life, that led to his current situation.
And then there is Alex. And Alex is ...good, different, nice, interesting and....attractive. I wouldn't call it a "GFY" story, but Matt actually hadn't been interested in guys before. But it just feels right, easy, strangely comfortable. And so it beginns.
If only Matt hadn't been involved with rule bending activities....
The book is very emotional, sexy and erotic. I've been glued to the pages despite the underlying feeling of guilt, and I really enjoyed reading it because the very strong postitive emotions, the falling for Alex, the love for Carson, the genuine curiosity about this attraction, all that was stronger and ...geez...did I mention it was poetic already?
I should say that again - the book is poetic, beautifully written, sensual and a pleassure to read.

3.5 Stars Good but fell short

I really enjoyed a lot of this and anticipating the how, when and what Matt’s actions would precipitate. I liked Matt discussing his sexuality with his young brother Carson, trying to figure out how he ended up with Alex. It’s pretty steamy as Matt takes to sex with a guy like a duck to water. Alex was somewhat puzzling as there’s no background about his life before meeting Matt. The plot could have used more substance as well, since it ended with barely a whimper; no real consequences for anyone and no redemption. After such a fascinating build up I was anticipating a more fleshed-out conclusion rather than an anticlimactic HFN.

Wonderful story with a great set of characters. The theme of corruption isn't drawn out and heavy. It's simply a love story of two men on opposite sides of the law. Matt is a shady business man and Alex is the district attorney. I loved the way the two of them initially meet. The chemistry felt authentic. And watching them fall in love with each other was wonderful to watch. Matt isn't a bad guy and I never once found myself not rooting for him or his relationship with Alex. These two really deserved a happy ending and I couldn't put the story down until I finished it at 2am reading in one sitting.

Corruption runs throughout this book. The corruption of a man, a family, and lastly a couple. How does the author Chase Potter weave a story around a man who breaks the rules and one who enforces them. District attorney Alex and shady business man Matthew, have to go through a minefield of legal dealings that could ruin Matthew. I found I liked Matthew and was rooting for him to be able come out on top. I wanted this couple to have a ending that would keep them true to themselves and to each other. The author gave me a book that was wonderful and poignant reminder that even a nice man can do things that on the outside looks as if he has put aside his own beliefs. I think in doing so he changed and grew as the black and white of his life became rich in the grays areas. He forged ahead to grasp his future.

BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS

Dear Chase Potter,

I read almost every other book you wrote and I was eager to try this one because even though Matt sounded like a sleazy character, I was curious where you will take the characters and the story. As my grade shows, the ending did not make me happy at all and I was (and am) torn as to what kind of grade this book deserves from me.

So, first and foremost let's be honest here. Matt is a talented and charming architect and developer, but he is also a criminal. He is not just "bending the rules", he is *committing crimes* - because giving the bribes to the public officials in order to win the contracts with the city and to get approval to built what they want is illegal. We all know that and to be fair, Matt knows who he is and does not try to make excuses for himself, so kudos for him being self - aware.

Matt's "friend"/ partner (actually I am not hundred percent sure whether he was a partner in his firm, but they certainly had some kind of working relationship ) James is ten times worse than Matt in a sense that he is not only bribes public officials, he is also working hard and succeeding in getting a Mayor elected who will clearly be doing whatever James wants him to do, will be in his pocket.

One day in the very beginning of the book Matt and his developer buddies and people who are important them were playing football and Alex was amongst them. Alex and Matt collide ( because Alex "forgot" that they were playing flag football) and tackled him. That's how their story begins.

Matt knows that he should stay away from Alex, but stay away he cannot because attraction rules the day. James warns Matt that Alex is investigating corruption amongst the city and developers who win work for the city, and Matt's brain realizes that, but once again *attraction rules the day*.

I have to say that the writing really worked for me here, even though the book was written in the present tense, I thought it was a smooth enough read. I also thought Alex and Matt had lovely chemistry. I also enjoyed the third character who was present in the story in a big way and since the blurb is silent about this character, I will be as well.

There are no other characters besides James ( and even he clearly is a supporting character with much lesser page presence than the other three) and still it did not feel that way to me.

What did not work? Well, Matt's character arc did not work for me, or I should say - not quite. Alex's final move pissed me off, let's be honest as well.
See, this book IMO is very clearly a romance, while other books by this writer (I read three or four) may have had strong romantic elements, but I did not consider them Romances ( two did not even have HEA). When I read Romance I am perfectly happy with the flawed character, I don't need the flawed character to suffer or anything, but working on becoming a better person is something that I would have liked to happen.

When the character's flaw is that he is a criminal, I need the character to pay for what he did before everything is going to be well in his life. Of course Matt deserves love, everybody deserves love and it did not sound as if he was planning to do criminal stuff again, but I did not think he paid. I appreciated that the writer tried to humanize him to give him reason for his actions, but the reason while made me feel for Matt did not *justify* his actions if that makes sense. I did not buy that the only way out of tough situation he found himself in was to bribe to make his business more profitable and get money for what he needed. And don't get me wrong, I absolutely had sympathy for the reason why he needed money.

So basically the ending was infuriating for me. Even more so because of Alex's final actions. I wondered if the dolt realized that because of his leniency towards Matt much more horrible person was completely off the hook too.

Grade B/D. The story was well written, and the relationship made sense, but my extreme dissatisfaction with where the characters ended up warrants the D.

4.something (not entirely sure yet) I loved the story and the writing. I just didn’t get that physical pull towards the book, but that’s more on me than the book. There were a few things I didn’t like.

Matt kept on saying that he felt guilty about everything and that he was scared of the outcome. I didn’t really feel his fear. I didn’t like how it ended too, it was too HEA

Corruption in government

The setting for Chase Potter's new book "Corrupt" is unexpected. A group of city council officials, for some reason, does not seem a likely scene for a powerful love story. They are human just like everyone else of course, but I can't think of a similar novel that uses them as the central characters. And we first meet them playing a game of football that is made bizarre by the way the game is used to gain favour with the new candidate for mayor. And then the new District Attorney finds in the game an opportunity to lie on top of the central character, Matt.

What could possibly have sparked off this idea of government offials being less than admirable, and sexual opportunists?

The book follows a predictable pattern in many ways, using the theme of the confidently straight man surprisingly and inexplicably drawn to the gay DA. Matt's frequent casual affairs with women are well known; he is a womaniser. I find it rather unconvincing, therefore, that Matt falls to Alex's advances so quickly, and with so little self-questioning. But he does, and the working out of their relationship is the central theme of the book.

Matt has rescued his seventeen-year-old half brother from their abusive father, and his need to parent the young man makes up one of the complications in his developing relationship. Alongside this, it appears that Matt has benefited financially from some illegal property deal, although exactly what this is is not made clear until the end of the novel. His low starting salary and his sense of inadequacy as a parent conspired to tempt him to take an easy route to wealth. How can Matt develop a relationship with the man who could put him in prison, when that would destroy the nine years' protection and the trust he has established with his brother, Carson?

Well, they work it out in the end. Although this is a good read, and probably written a great deal better than most of the other similar books, it certainly can't pretend to be as rich and multilayered as Potter's four other major novels. I don't think it tries to be, and there is no shame in that. Those other books explore, among a variety of themes, the intriguing idea that human beings are far from perfect; and rather than uphold perfection as a desirable ideal, they present the flaws and mistakes, the dents and scratches that we all bear as not only acceptable, but more importantly, essential and desirable. A fragmented and repaired personality is to be preserved as valuable evidence that we have actually lived, loved, and loused up. It's good to discover in "Corrupt", therefore, this characteristic theme being revisited, and to find the suggestion that relationships, far from being made impossible by such mistakes, can actually embrace them.

Hm....I don’t know how I feel about the ending...???
At around 75% I was bored out of my mind and I started skimming through BUT the ending? Oh man...

Alex had to give up everything he loved for a man that knowingly committed several federal offenses (Good intentions or not, that’s besides the point. He broke the law and no amount of good dick should change that). He destroyed evidence for Matthew, he couldn’t prosecute Matthew’s dirty boss without compromising Matthew so the boss goes free as well (where this is a chain, really. He will probably continue bribing people which in turn makes an ever bigger mess down the line), he had to give up his prestigious position as a DA...I mean, he could have said an anonymous source gave him all of the information or Matthew could have hired a good lawyer with all of his money and present a deal (reduced jail time or no jail time at all in exchange for the stupid amount of evidence he had, specially since Alex case was ALL circunstancial until he got an anonymous tip to look into Matt, which we never know who it was, btw)

I mean, this could have gone 100 different ways and it would have made the ending 200 times better.

DNF….

I want to like this. I felt I enjoyed parts but the overall book never kept me long enough to finish, made it to 62% before calling it quits.

Mind you I restart the book three times! THREE SEPARATE TIMES! And like I said enjoyed some but not enough.

And as it’s nearing the end of the year I am going through my currently reading list and just biting the bullet on the books I’m just not going to come back to finish. At least not this year. Im DNFing all this I’ve gone deeper than 30% and not vibing with or wanting to restart to truly finish.

Sometimes you’re just not in the mood or headspace for the book but know or feel would enjoy another time. So if I feel I’ll come back to it I’ll just keep it in my currently reading list. Otherwise… TOSS!

Will be honest and say the first time I started reading this I was so not into it, dust would have been more entertaining.

HOWEVER, what I read or don't read will always depend on my mood so today I told myself, "It's Chase Potter, one of your favorite authors ever. Are you sure you won't give it another try?" So I did, and I really liked it!

It's not of my favorites, but I think that has more to do with the dubious actions in the book than anything else.

And even then, it felt so realistic I didn't have it in me to judge the mcs. I found myself loving them instead.

CP's books just have something I couldn't describe in one word but that reels me in and just won't let go.

To some it was love in the wrong place.

What can a tackle made at a flag football game become. I enjoyed this story very much. There were times I did not want to put it down. I have read 5 books by this author and I liked this one equally well. Touching story of a man taking care of his “brother” He doesn’t think he is gay but he finds himself having feeling, deep feeling for someone he has been told to stay away from. Great plot development and well written. I enjoyed it, and was glad I read it. Hope you will be too.

"I haven’t read such a flat and boring book in a long time. The plot had potential, but the delivery? Dull.
The only reason I finished it is because it was relatively short and, for some reason, I was oddly determined."

Nice story, but the ending was too abrupt.
Also, I loved the flashbacks with Matt raising his brother, and I actually wanted to see more of that.

This book felt a bit artsy and I struggled to connect but it was interesting but memorable for being odd rather than any other reason.
