In 40 Questions About Angels, Demons, and Spiritual Warfare, John Gilhooly provides a biblical and balanced perspective on the many issues surrounding the spiritual realm. Using a question-and-answer format, he explains spiritual warfare, angels and demons, the role of Satan, models and practices for spiritual warfare, and topics related to the occult. Beneficial as a comprehensive overview or as a reference guide to particular subjects, this volume provides concise but thorough answers to many important questions, including: Do believers have guardian angels? Can Christians be demon possessed? Are there territorial spirits? Why and when did the devil fall from heaven? What is the role of prayer in spiritual warfare? Are there such things as spiritual curses?
Gilhooly represents an extremely cautious approach to the unseen realm, angels and demons, and spiritual warfare. He rightly critiques the unbiblical excesses of church history and the modern day. At times, however, he may be a bit too skeptical about the Bible's teaching regarding the unseen realm.
A really good book for briefly understanding questions about angels, demons, and spiritual warfare. There were time I wish it went a bit more in depth, but I definitely understand that is not the point of the book. I appreciated its succinct manner of addressing issues, and it made me want to go learn more about some things. Overall it was great book for scratching the surface.
What I liked: - The author clarifies that the Bible is the final authority not anecdotal experiences - The author used a lot of Hebrew / Greek to give further insight into passages that have been misinterpreted - The author addresses a wide variety of topics
What I didn’t like as much: - Some questions were not answered satisfactory and just addressed at a certain level - Some questions felt random and not fully related to the topic
Overall, the book gives some insights into angels, demons, and spiritual warfare. The author takes a very conservative approach where if I could summarize the book it would be with this “The Bible is not clear on this issue so we must not speculate”
This book was succinct and helpful, though I wish it delved into certain things a bit more or answered some of the questions a bit more specifically. Some answers kind of felt like cop outs. But overall, a great introductory book on the study of angels, demons, and spiritual warfare.
Helpful for understanding these topics. Very straightforward. Bases theology in Word and doesn't go far beyond it. It's a good book if you have questions about how angels and demons affect our lives.
Very matter of fact, very informative. Good resource to keep in the study for about all of your spiritual realm questions (as long as you have less than 40).
