As a lively account of a little-known unit in the vast panorama of World War II, this book is valuable in its picture of the training for the amphibious assault on Oran in November 1942, its details of day-to-day life in the field, and its eyewitness portraits of Major General Terry Allen and Brigadier General Teddy Roosevelt Jr.
I knew George personally. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met,as well as his wife Elaine. Just before he passed he gave me a copy of his book and I loved it. Maybe it was because I knew him or maybe not. I think you can learn a lot of interesting things that you don't get to see on the history channel. Being from around the Philadelphia area it was interesting to read a book that had so many familiar places in it. I miss you George!
