The team of Carter Sinclair and Riley Thompson has ruled the sport of Beach Volleyball for years. Partners on the court for six years, and friends with benefits off the court for almost as long, Sinclair and Thompson are on top of the world. Until a photo of Sin and Riley in a compromising position goes viral. Shouldn’t be a problem, Sin and Riley have been together for years. Except, Riley is straight. Or so he claims. But when Sin’s estranged father dies, something as mundane as a sex scandal is the least of their worries. Scandal not of their own making puts Riley’s dream of Olympic gold on hold. And threatens to cost him his partner… on the court and off. He has two choices, he can pretend the photo never happened, and find a new partner. Or… admit his feelings and choose a lifetime of Courting Sin.
Sin and Riley have been in a secret sexual relationship for six years. During that time they've both had other sexual relationships. Riley with other woman and Sin with other men. Sin is out and proud while Riley still holds on to his straight card. The only man Riley has had sex with is Sin, but that doesn't mean he's never ever had some man on man experiences in the past. Their secret relationship comes crashing down when a picture of them in a compromising position is released to the web. There is no denying that it's Riley in the picture, but Carter (Sin) isn't so clearly seen in the picture and could easily be denied. Carter isn't worried about it being him considering he has some scandals under his belt already. But Riley isn't out. He isn't gay. He's straight. Right? So he worries how Riley is taking it and how they can fix it. But Riley doesn't want to fix it and tells the world the picture is correct as seen. Carter is confused by his feelings for Riley and by the actions of Riley. Both men have been oblivious of the fact that they have been falling for each other. Eventually they both realize what has been happening and let their feelings be known. I really liked them together and I enjoyed reading the dance they did around each other until they finally gave in. They had great chemistry. The reason this is a four star read for me was because the drama surrounding Sin and his biological father had some of my triggers going off for me. I struggled to read through some of it and I definitely think they should be listed so other's aren't surprised by the dark turn of events this book took.
Things I wanted to read about and wasn't there was how Riley's parents took to his coming out. Things I really liked was the MC's and that this book was about something I had never read about in a book before. Beach Volleyball Olympians. It was a great fresh take on a book.
If you're looking for a book with loads of snark, two great MC's, and a story with some drama that is Dallas worthy, then pick this one up.
I was given an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
WTF did I just read!!!? I started this thinking it would be a teammates fighting their attraction for each other, denying, and being outed by paparazzi. What I got was a crazy soap opera/Lifetime network mystery. There should definitely be a trigger warning before this book. There is a lot of talking about rape in this book!!! None of it happens on page, but it happened to about half the total characters in this book!!!? And if involved mostly children. There were parts of this book I liked, but the OTT convoluted plot just made it hard to get through. It was beyond too much for me. However, I do like this author, and I didn't want to rate it low and discourage anyone from making their own decision to read. However, if you're looking for FLUFF... THIS ISN'T THE BOOK FOR YOU
Argh. This one is hard to rate. I really liked Sin and Riley. I really loved that unexpectedly Riley wasn't a closeted, paranoid, insensitive jerk. I loved how he just stepped up and owned his life even when it wasn't the image that people expected. I liked that Sin was able to let go and be what he thought Riley wanted just to be with Riley about as much as I hated that Sin did that.
Where I have problems is the level of evil and child molestation and abuse just heaped on and heaped on and heaped on. Besides just being way too over the top with the evil, one dimensional characters, the graphicness of the abuse as it's recalled and related seems ... exploitive maybe? IDK. It's a tough pill to swallow to find out that characters have not just knowledge of this stuff going on but hard proof and find out nothing was done with it that makes it hard to not paint some of these characters with a very tainted brush. Additionally, this book should have had some warning about the contents. From the blurb nobody is going to see this level of child abuse coming. I'm not hiding this behind spoilers because I think it's important to clue in potential readers. This is dark, dark, dark, shit. My next problem is that we get all this dark, dark, dark shit and we get no resolution. The book literally fades to black and picks up a few years later with what appears to be just a happy family cheering on the rest of their family. It's a huge disservice to the characters and the readers.
But, it's MC, so the sex is hawt and the writing is good and the storytelling drags you in and won't let you go. It just needed to deliver a lot more for the level of dark she dumped on everyone.
This story is what I expect from a Mercy Celeste book. Super hot romance with crazy soap opera-style WTF family situation striking at just the wrong time in an attempt to ruin it all. There should be trigger warnings for
Riley and Sin are in denial about just how far their teammates with benefits relationship has really gone. Plenty of angst surrounds that as the two lose their minds over each other without admitting to themselves just how much they really care. The sex is unbelievably hot and dirty, but at first they don't know what to do with the feels that creep in, especially Riley.
A death in Sin's family suddenly sends both men on a ride on the crazy train and all kinds of secrets come out that give any soap a run for its money. If you're a fan of Mercy Celeste's stories you won't want to miss this one!
*whimper whimper* this felt like watching a train wreck speeding down the tracks, gaining momentum and speed as it sped by.
It started off strong. Then started to go a bit wonky. I’m not even talking about the part where Riley was in denial/closet case. And then it took a really crazy left turn and just went completely down hill from there.
I don’t know which part of it was crazier. The fact that it had sooooooo much drama continuously, or the fact that rape, murder, and pedophilia was thrown into the plot so casually. I don’t know how to process this!!
This was more than I expected from the blurb. At first, it’s a friends with benefits just starting to figure out what the other guy means to them story. Riley is supposedly “straight” but he’s acting weird when he and Carter “Sin” Sinclair get together for their usual post-game, blowing-off-steam sex. Then the feces hit the fan with a photo and they’re at odds with each other. On top of that, Sin’s estranged father dies and suddenly the whole tone of the story changes, with secrets from Sin’s past and a near-tragedy.
It was quite engrossing and I liked the surprise shift of focus from the troubled romance. Mercy writes some unique characters and plots and the style reminded me faintly of her Any Given Sunday series in atmosphere and mood. It’s absolutely sexy without being overloaded with scenes. Some of the later circumstances were rather shocking and dramatic but it transitions well from the first part of the book. The details of the latter portion of the narrative did get a little OTT I think but intriguing nevertheless. Mercy is excellent at avoiding run of the mill storylines!
Each author has their style of storytelling and to me this Mercy's. I've read pretty much all her books and I feel like sometimes it's written just for me. I don't like easy or simple reads, I like them dark, I like sex in my books which she does very well (and not just a few lines, I mean the kind that takes 4 pages to describe in detail what's happening and if you add in dirty talk even better) and I love how she doesn't shy away from hard subjects or afraid to spell it out. This sounds stupid maybe, but I love the dialogue between the MC's too, it's exactly how I picture them talking to each other. Thank you Mercy for another great book to add to my collection!
This book has a good story base. So really I don’t understand why it needed to be so over the top. Biggest thing that bugs me is the way the surrounding plots just barreled into the main storyline. It was inelegantly done and bordered on a sort of trauma theater that I found off putting. There was no need for it as well as the soap opera level plot involving Step-Mommy Dearest. It felt like two completely different books trying disastrously to take up the same space.
Also, Needless to say, this should be accompanied by some sort of warning.
If this was just a story about Sin and Riley, it would have been a solid 3.5-4***
I don’t have the first idea how to rate this book.
On the one hand - hawt. Probably the hottest book I’ve read in a while. Marcy Celeste does hate sex (or at least ambivalent people who really don’t like each other sex) so incredibly well. And when the lust turns to love, she does sweet better than most, too.
On the other hand, the drama llama salacious hideousness here was over the top. It was almost farcical how evil people were and it just kept coming. In some places, there were continuity issues, too. (Like Carter said something. And then Carter replied. It just needed a bit more editing).
I’m thinking four stars. Go into it knowing that it’s going to be a pulpy shitshow in parts (not unlike Flowers in the Attic), and if you are triggered by violence against kids - tread carefully - but still very good and worth reading.
Came back to drop it to three stars because it’s a day later and the child victim elements are troubling me. I think it was too cavalierly graphic and not as sensitive as it should have been. A day on, my recollection of reading is feeling icky whereas some other books didn’t leave that feel. I think the difference was that some parts felt unnecessarily salacious considering the subject matter. Should have been treated more seriously and sensitively.
This book was just too much drama. It had sexual abuse, murder, attempted murder and etc. It never rest on anything. It was too short to have all that drama. And yet they found room to admit feelings and get it on. Their was no courting going on in this book. How do you mingle with people that have betrayed you to your core? This book left so many WHYs for me. The level of shit they kept quiet about is staggering. Not a great book to pick up in the middle of the night. This might be top level of WTF did I just read today.
I’m sorry too much triggering shit in this book . I didn’t like beginning then it started getting interesting then all of sudden rape, child abuse and all other shit comes in great ass unnecessary details 🤯😱 like why did the plot suddenly turn dark . The blurb did not prepare me for all that . The part about Sin and Riley was good but all the drama was a major 😟👎🏾
One second, can we all just back up a minute? Wow... what the hell did I just read? That synopsis could have never prepared me for the REAL DEAL. Nothing would have. The synopsis speaks about a gay scandal which is going to rip their lifes apart, but man... never would I have guessed that.. When I told a friend about my binge-reading and the dramatic turn of events in the book, she suggested it sounds like Anne Rice. Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is, I should have been surprised; I have read one book by Mercy already, namely Out of the blue. I just checked the review and my first sentence was " F***ed up family history, but the love story is worth it <3" so I guess that comes with her writing.
Courting Sin (Naughtly title btw) is about Carter Sinclair and Riley Thompson who are known as THE team in beachvolleyball - what no one knows is that they f*** after each win "to relieve stress" according to Riley, but please who are you kidding. After a good f*** out of jealousy, a picture appears in the paper which makes Riley all sorts of things except happy, as he is not gay according to him. Similarily to that public 'scandal' Sin has a family emergency and that is where the clusterf*** begins....
When I started reading I wasnt sure what to think of it; the writing didnt capture me, especially because the first chapter immediately starts with Sin talking about Riley's ass. However,... I couldn't just put it down after all I wasnt seeing what was so special about this book that it got a 4.2 rating on Goodreads, you know? So there I was, reading reading and reading, and I almost had a heartattack when the story turned more morbid by the second, the love story is not the main part of the story, not at all!! that's a ... sideeffect from it all, but the main reason... oh god, how it messed up my head.... I was so angry when I finished... i just.. it made me physically ill to read it as I felt the bad vibes crawling over my skin.
I understand now why the book got such a high rating, and I'd highly recommend this one if you're not scared of a huge family scandal....
Courting Sin is a great, hot summer romance. Set on the beaches in Florida, featuring sexy, young, guys getting sweaty, this story is great by the pool, or lying in bed wishing you were. The sex scenes are hot, like Mercy Celeste at her best-hot. They will leave you breathless. Sin is a professional volleyball player. He’s sweet, a nice guy, a good friend, close to his mother, and in love with his best friend and teammate. Unfortunately, Riley is very much straight and living his dream. He gets paid to play the sport he loves. He and his teammate are practically unbeatable. They’re qualifying for the Olympics, ….and after a great match, he gets amazing sex with his teammate--but he’s not gay. Will they or won’t they? Will Sin finally be able to move on? Will Riley catch on about Sin’s feelings? What will happen to their team? And will they end up at the Olympics? Frankly, who cares? As long as Sin and Riley keep burning up the sheets. But before you think Mercy has gone soft, her heroes always have a backstory, usually a dark one. One of our protagonists, has a backstory and it’s really dark, and it shows right up during a qualifying tournament. Will they or won’t they? Who cares? When Sin’s whole life is about to blow up. And never mind how Riley feels about him, Sin might not have a single vestige of his old life left after revelations are made. And Riley thought a sex scandal was bad. But Mercy likes her heroes to have a HEA, of a sort, after they’ve come to terms with their twisted pasts’, so hang on, but you’ll stay up late to finish this one anyway. The story moves quickly, interspersed with steamy sex scenes which will raise your heart rate and give you the workout you skipped because you were reading. If you’ve followed Mercy Celeste, then you know that she pivoted from her Southern Scrimmage after Bootleg Diva, and if you do follow Mercy, then you’re probably dying in wait for Blindsided. But whether you’re a fan, or you’re checking her out for the first time, Courting Sin is great summer romance.
I remembered why I don't read Celeste's books. The story got my eyes rolling more than once. I'm a sucker for gay sports books and that was the reason to try this. Sin and Riley are partners in beach volleyball and they also have sex with each other. Sin is gay and Riley supposedly not (yeah right). Sin's biological father dies and the guys get caught having sex and this all plunges towards hell faster than you can say "cat". The sports part first? Well, not much to say about that, since the book depicts beach volleyball only a little and even that feels kind of stupid. As if media would follow them like hawks. This made the whole sex scandal tenuous at best. The hell part then? The pedophilia and child abuse in the book that smacks you in the face. Sin's dad and grandfather having sex with kids and whatnot, suicide and the poisoning. Really? The whole thing was weird, off-putting and out of place. Also, both Sin and Riley are idiots, don't talk to each other and when they finally do, it's about eternal love and spouting nonsense like teenage girls.
Courting Sin isn't believable even in the least and hideous at times. It makes no sense and doesn't use time to set the plot, but just blurts it all over the pages without any preparation (pun intended). I was baffled, even though I knew it isn't the first one for Celeste. She can write alright, but that's about it. The text is fluent, but the plot and how everything is handled sucks the marrow from your bones.
Mercy Celeste has some wicked genes running through her because she can set us up with two men who simply cannot stop having incredible sex while weaving outlandish and sometimes seriously tragic tales in their lives.
My recommendation is that you read the blurb of this extraordinary love story which is eventually a tale of sexual abuse (including child abuse) which takes you so completely by surprise that you can't imagine that Celeste can get her MCs Carter and Riley out of a crisis so heartbreaking alive, let alone in love.
This one sneaks up on you and nails you right to the wall. The sex scenes are deliciously explicit and the psychoanalysis deep, penetrating and sometimes outrageous.
I'm not terribly fond of this writing style. First-person writing can work but more often than not it doesn't. Structure-wise, it was uneven at best. It needs significant editing.
There's a lot of sex. That part was written better than the rest. There are also passages that are syruppy sweet where the two main characters speak so sweetly, I couldn't even roll my eyes. I could only laugh.
The beginning, mistakes notwithstanding, held promise but the book never lived up to it. The irony is that Sin and Riley were interesting characters. I cared about them. But, the book took a meandering path.
The plot took quite a turn but I wasn't surprised given what page I was on when Sin and Riley had reached a certain place in their relationship and more than 50 pages remained.
The elements involving minors were problematic. Horrible things can happen to anyone. It's always worse when they happen to kids. However, the addition of those elements felt desperate and inauthentic. It was salacious for the sake of being salacious. The book didn't need the over-the-top ending. Such serious subject matter shouldn't be used to pad a book. The book was already too long and padding it with unnecessary violence of that nature demeaned what survivors go through. Film and television are replete with examples of this kind of violence. It feels gratuitous. I've read books, including m/m where worse things happen to children but it was dealt with much more seriously.
The author describes herself as a storyteller and not a writer. And I agree. It's not very well-written. The elements were there. A decent story. Compelling characters. But, that's not enough. There were too many things to minus. I finished reading it because I wanted to know where they ended up. But, the end wasn't very satisfying. It was a reminder that so much potential was squandered.
But, if you like first-person writing, two athletic hunk protagonists, lots of hot sex and you don't mind gratuitous elements then you might possibly really enjoy this.
I've never read this author before but doing a search on the GR app, I could see this wasn't her first foray into writing. I liked Sin and Carter. I will check out other novels. I read this on a long train ride while trying not to spill my drink half the time. Without the problematic elements, it would have been a much better read.
I didn't want to spoil the book so I didn't reference things the way I normally would. But, a lot of people are put off my sexual violence in small or even moderate doses.
When I read the summery I thought it would be some sport book, where this staight guy figures out that he isn't so straight. And there would be finding ones true self and bla bla bla. But what I got? I don't known how to feel about this book. So let me start. First of all where was working? It is unacceptable. I was ready for fuzy love story, with some sun and sand and maybe little bit drama. Because well the cover ... What I got is rape, child molestation, cruelty and plain abuse. I am a big girl, I can take it, I work in children's shelter so I hear a lot. But someone with same experience reads it unprepared and you know what will happen to them? And addressing rape with...casualty? As if ...I don't know what. So just only for that I would give the book zero. But let's move on. Okey so we got the heavy book. We forgive the author for forgetting to give us warning. Now we have characters. Well sort of. Author didn't let us get to know them. We know little bit about everyone but not enough. Despite that I liked Sin and Riley. I would have liked to know more of Sins sisters. What happened to them, how they continue living, how they found their peace, and about Sins mum as well. Ending was so rushed. We didn't get to say goodbuy to those characters. And because despite everything author made us like them so much, I give the book one star. Now writing style. It was easy to read. But unemotional. And it should have been SO emotional. I couldn't feel chasadness sorrow, anger, sadness. I mean if hero is telling us how he got raped by his father and I only think ' oh poor him' its a problem. Because I am a big softy,I cry during cute commercials. So .. Oh and let's not forget the plot. I don't even know what to say it was so ...not good. I mean sport drama, coming out, abuse and crime and detective. Too much if you ask me. And who was killer? Really? It was sooo meeeeh . So I am giving this book two stars because I liked characters and writing was OK. I would have liked better closure but well it is what it is.
First a caveat....the cover in no way represents characters or storyline. Cover would seem to be about a summer romp with 2 teenagers but this is a grown up story from start to finish. This was a ultra romantic /family drama about 2 competitive volleyball players, which is only time to cover. Man, did I love Carter/Sin and Riley....2 flawed and rough around the edges guys that were seriously hiding behind fears. Worst case of lack of communication ever! It really fit who each was though and I have to say, no stupid miscommunication or self-caused angst after they got their act together. My favorite bit was the nonchalant manner they dealt with the numerous caught in the act moments. That added levity which was needed because there was a lot of heaviness and intensity. I have to shout out about the seriously amazing sex scenes, this author can write them like no other. Dirty talk and banter are my kryptonite in romances and M. Celeste is the official queen of that stuff! On flip side, she went there and dug deep into childhood trauma and abuse....it was disgusting and ugly and horrible. But through it all, I was so impressed with the way that even with the ugliest of ugly right out there.... our guy was not shown as a victim....not even only as a survivor but as a confident adult with a lot of love in his heart. So even though this is creative romantic fantasy...I hope it gives strength and hope of a healthy future surrounded by love to someone that needs that vision to move forward. Didn't see storyline with Candice coming. Overall, unique, surprising, and enthralling. Highly recommended.
I found this book to be an surprisingly difficult read. The romance was essentially what I expected from the author- sexy, sporty, with a solid HEA. Unfortunately, that story line was quick eclipsed by Sin's terrible and heart wrenching backstory. The details of which get progressively worse as the book goes on. I generally prefer my books to be more lighthearted and uplifting but I'm not opposed to characters experiencing hardships if it contributes to the story. In this case, it felt completely unnecessary and full of over-the-top villains.
Carter “Sin” Sinclair and Riley Thompson are the reining beach volleyball champions. Sin is gay, Riley isn't, at least that's what he tells himself every time Sin and him have sex. Riley insists that it's just about taking the edge off after a win, or a loss, or really any time. When they are caught on film the fallout seems likely to derail their future trip to the Olympics.
The sex scandal soon takes second place to Sin’s real life secrets. His father kills himself and Sin’s past returns with a vengeance. Putting him and Riley’s future in jeopardy.
This author does dark very well. And this book is no exception. Difficult subjects seem to be her specialty.
Don't look for a happy love story. Although there is love, lots of it. And snark, so much snark. These guys excell at it.
Side note for those readers that know her books- Sin and Riley tried really hard to take first place away from Levi and Tracy. They almost made it! This is my review, and that's how I see it.
Re-reading: I always liked this book. What's more, I remember it. Like: the Goodreads has a list of books I have read but my brain has a shorter one of books I actually can name and this one is there and well, that does speak volumes, right?
And this is not my first re-read especially sometimes I get this funny itch for a specific story that is hard to put down without reading that book and... I think I finally figured out one of the things... maybe the main thing that makes this so good: faces and layers.
Like some kind of rubric cube or an optical illusion or when you browse the apps in your phone and every page is just a completely different thing - so does this book changes perspectives and motifs and focus and you start with two professional volleyball players who may hate, like, lust after each other and so your interest is a "what are they?" and then something happens and the main question is suddenly fighting with another one and slowly you find out so much, sooooo much stuff over the course of the book and it can get sudden shakes and plunges and it turns you around so you realize it's all totally different and there may be some crazy drama but because it's deep and treated actually with what I consider respect it just makes it even better instead of making it cheap.
I kind of skipped some parts that I knew were pretty bad, and knowing what is going on did help me be okay with any... infidelity-indecision parts, that I used to dislike but may now really dig. You know, those sudden urges when you realize what the character was saying was them trying to convince themselves about it being the truth and then it breaks and reality comes out and I think it gives me this absurd feeling of "yes, now we are getting to the core, now I am let it to the inner world even more" so it is descent and gradation of feelings at the same time and maybe I should change those stars to 5. I am not sure why the rating is not higher but I guess it's controversial enough that it won't work for everyone and when you read it despite realizing it's not for you, yes, the resulting rating may be super low.
In the end, classic literature is, unfortunately, also judged on popularity over some time (and old and/or academic people singing it praise or just having hot debates over it) which seems stupid (and I am an English major, yay) even if that is something I can get behind, the idea that some things are experienced and either discarded or fade out and some movies or books you can read over and over and each time you like it and might even change how you look at it.
A long way to say I still recommend.
P.S: This book made me Google why in the name of all that is holy you have that thing called stature of limitation on some crimes. Not to cast stones since our justice system is definitely not perfect but why would you limit the number of years where you can convict someone, does the crime suddenly disappears or what?? The answer is, if you want to know, evidence. Sure, sometimes it can be a problem finding evidence, evidence admissible in court that would actually count (American system seems so silly sometimes, like it protects people who have expensive lawyers or random Jane that wants to sue some company for not advertising she can't put her cat in a microwave) so finding evidence American justice system would consider after 10 years might be even super harder but dude, that's such BS. If the evidence is not good enough, you just sweep the case off the table and if, even after ten years, the evidence is good enough, you just send that criminal to jail. Shocking, right? So why would you need some stature when you can simply decide on an individual basis instead of saying categorically that any evidence or witness account gathered after X years is just bogus. Eyewitness account can be pure lie or camera-like account a week after the event, so what is your problem, really? And this is way too long P.S but it's something to think about and educational so it's okay, I think.
------- Original review. Now this one was a wild, wild ride. It was a long time since I read such an up-and-down story.
I enjoyed the book. I am just not sure how much of it was circumstances, my mood and how much was the book. Because I appreciated it more through my emotions than my "brain".
If I had to say, I´d say this book is bold. From the first pages, the plot is told from a classic book-masculine voice that is somehow arrogant but endearing at the same time.
Oh and the title... it sounded really cliche but when it was explained, it was actually a pretty cool clever title. It would sound naive but instead, it´s just kind of... fitting. Really sums up the book.
I am usually a pretty straightforward kind of person - when I say something, I mean it, when I am angry, I am pissed off, I don´t just shrug off emotions and I rarely say things I don´t mean.
In books, it´s different. Just because someone made a mistake and says something like "we're over" does not mean usually they broke up. It took me some time to get used to it and this book is chock-full of this. And - I was okay with it.
There is this... interesting, kind of effed up part, where it gets pretty rough. A really strong theme that is not out of place - and that was surprising, not every book can pull this off. It was, admittedly, too quickly resolved but then, such was the situation - there was no proper resolution for the characters so we did not get one either.
The relationship was good, I liked it. A lot. It was the main focus of the story, there were quite a few side characters and they were good as well, but not that important.
They were mostly tools for the plot and the plot was... better then just some agonizing over "does he love, does he love me not". They were surprised and spiced up the book and just gave some new layers.
Too much drama! Going in i thought this would be some nice fluff with a bit of angst and drama. Instead I got this... Dark themes with off page abuse, rape and pedophilia.
Not what I was expecting and not something I really wanted to read. But the book was well written and I just wanted the HEA for everyone so I kept reading.
I wasn't all that fond of Riley in the beginning. And I'm not sure he completely redeemed himself in my eyes because I didn't really warm to him.
The ending was a bit too vague for me. Not the clear HEA I was looking for. Still it was somewhat good and most things was smoothed out nicely.
Of course, I held off reading this because the cover looked too sweet and innocent to belong to Mercy Celeste. Boy, was I ever wrong. This is pure Mercy Celeste so you know that means… off the wall, real dialogue, hot as hell sexy times, and a convoluted route to that elusive happy ever after. But what a great ride it was. I am still surprised I didn’t jump on this the minute it passed my radar, but live and learn…and never, ever pass up a Mercy Celeste book.
We have sports, beach volleyball players to be exact, who are on-field partners and off-field friends with benefits. Sounds easy and fun, but not when one of the guys is gay and the other is mostly straight…except with Sin. Carter “Sin” Sinclair is a big guy, gay, one of the best (if not the best) volleyball players in the world, and he has secrets. Riley is a bigger guy, also one of the best volleyball players in the world, and secretly harbors feeling for his partner…that goes beyond sinful sex, but that can’t be right because he screws women, too, right?
These two have been best buds and team mates for six years and the adrenaline fueled sex is just a bonus. Until feelings get involved. Until a crazy chain reaction occurs when they are caught in flagrante. And gets even worse with the family drama that starts consuming Sin. I said he had secrets, right? Well, think worse case scenarios in your head and you will still probably miss quite a bit. This is Mercy at her best, so prepare yourself. Highly recommended.
Mercy Celeste writes characters that you just want to hug and wish them the best. It isn't any different for Courting Sin. I love these guys. They don't realize what they really have and when they do-- it takes them exploring to find out what they are for each other.
The think I love about Mercy's style is she breaks the characters, but she always fixes them. This is a story you want to read.
I always one click Mercy, she is a great story teller but now I am worried about her if she thinks CNN or MSNBC is valid media, really? This one has a little of everything, sports sexy hot guys who love other hot guys and murder. Also parents who should never been allowed to procreate. The last part seemed too rushed. Would have liked to know more about the legalities of the situation.
This is an amazing story about Carter “Sin” and Riley, their professional relationship and their private relationship! This is also a really frightening story about really horrible things happening to children. The love is incredible and the strength and courage is awesome!
Mercy Celeste is an amazing storyteller and you will never regret reading this story!
I loved the romance between the two characters and the fact that they were partners first. But OMG, talk about DRAMA, so this book had a vicious killer, a fake pregnancy, two rapists, and more. I think sometimes less is more. I would have given this book 3.5 or maybe 4 stars if there were just the romance and a little drama surrounding maybe Sin family or something else. I loved a book written by this author and I am still searching something else to love or even enjoy.
DNF at 34% I usually like this authors books but this one I couldn't get into. Sorry but this book had me so confused. The characters names go from using their surnames and christian names, I couldn't keep up with which was talking in the scenes. I didn't like Riley's character when he's all straight but he gets possessive of Carter. Friends with benefits what a joke for Riley, Carter needed to find someone else. This is not and easy read. Includes triggers.
No wonder Verity ran with Sin. His family is really demented and horrible...the men of the family and what they did to all those kids is a nightmare. Grandma must have known but why never do anything? How did all this play out with Candice in the end? So many Questions left unanswered and to tell you honestly a lot of the details we did get were very confusing.
