Most managers view organization politics as a routine part of their job, and as an important contributor to career success, as well as to personal and organizational performance. This eagerly anticipated Second Edition has been updated to reflect new research and current perspectives on this integral part of organizational life. Power, Politics, and Organizational Change focuses on the manager acting as internal change agent. The authors emphasize the context in which managers initiate change, how this is achieved, and how actions are accounted for.
I started reading this online and then switched to a hard copy, which made for much better going!
Enjoyed the less formal style with interspersed humour but I’m probably one of the readers they anticipate near the end who find their analysis too negative.
I think it would be naive to approach the subject of politics in organisations without a massive dose of cynicism but also suspect they a lot of political players in these organisations have less Machiavellian intent than the authors suggest.
Also didn’t quite get their take on Foucault. That might be more my fault than theirs though.
