A great little middle-grade book set in a fun world of birds. This is a great one to get kids interested in the detective genre. Short snappy chapters, which is always great in a kids book. And lots of mystery for kids to work out along the way.
I love that Frankie becomes a hard-working bird, after his naughtiness at the start and becomes passionate about being an investigator and working with his uncle. When other authors for this age group would have their cheeky protagonist being naughty for the whole book, it was really refreshing to see McGregor not do that and instead give Frankie a wholesome and inspiring character arc. It was also lovely to see a positive family relationship.

I do have a bit of a niggle though (spoiler included): I didn't quite like that there was no consequence for the teacher breaking the law. I know he was bullied into it, but that line of argument could let someone off some pretty terrible actions. So I think some kind of consequence needed to happen.
It also wasn't clear whether the wrongly accused bird was declared innocent publicly. I think you can presume it was the case, but for me I think the wronged party should have been shown to be publicly acquitted and the teacher should have at the very least made amends to the bird he helped frame. Or even a public apology or something. The bird could still have been shown mercy, but, especially because he's the teacher who keeps Frankie back in detention, it seems odd that he can get away with doing something illegal. Again, I know he was threatened, but it still didn't sit quite right with me. But he did show regret and remorse, which is great and I do love how the other characters' responses were to forgive.

Overall I do think this story and these bird characters are great and very likeable. And my little niggle is just how it's all wrapped up in the end.

This book was a cracking middle grade book and in some ways relatable to real life especially with the game Keek-a-boo mentioned at the beginning of the book. This game you could do see birds almost planning especially when us humans are a victim of it.

I thought this was a great fast paced book and was definitely worth the read
