I don't even know why I tried. I can't connect with Eric Westright (42, becomes 43) and his son's best friend, Jesse Morgan (23). I don't like how when a man cries, he's weak. I skimmed the book for the most part. I'm actually only interested in Ty's reaction for when the truth about his dad's horrible past comes out. Sadly it wasn't in this book and I'm not really interested in reading book three as this one just didn't work for me. Am I the only one who doesn't like this series?

Well Devon did it again. I really loved these two MC and would probably like to see more in the future. I would've liked it if Eric had been more angry at Trisha in the end, but really what's done is done. So I think it turned out as it should've. Ty had the right amount of anger toward both Eric and Jesse. I actually think Eric shoulda told Ty about his issues so maybe he'd understand more about why he was as distant as he was. Maybe even went to counselling with his dad and talked out how they felt..but all in all I loved the story.

3.50 stars!! I'm a little conflicted about how to review the book without seeming a little shallow. 🤔 First things first, this is certainly not a stand alone book; one has to read the previous book, BFF #1 since this book literally picks up where the last one ended. Eric and Jesse (who is Eric's son Ty's best friend) had instant chemistry that turned into much more during the course of the last book. They hid their relationship from Ty while having crazy hot sex 🔥💕, but when they start falling in love and started seeing a future together, they decided to come clean to Ty which did not go well with Ty walking away from both his dad and his best friend.
This book is a continuation of that story where now, Eric and Jesse are dealing with that fall-out as well as Eric's past history of being sexually abused by a trusted family member, which has caused him to repress his emotions and not open to many facets of his physical relationship with Jesse. . In many ways this is about mending broken relationships as well as fixing mental blockages, because they have to now fix their individual relationships with Ty and together help resolve Eric's issues so that they have a better future. Eric's emotional journey is a heavy and compelling read, and kudos to the author on handling such a sensitive subject by showing the reader the inner battles of a repressed individual who is outwardly very successful. Jesse is probably the best boyfriend in the world with his unconditional love, support and maturity way beyond his age.
So why not more stars? Well, thats where I feel that I'm getting a little shallow.. 😞. The first book was not this heavy in emotional baggage and was a HOT read sold on the premise of sizzling taboo sex between a hot Daddy with his son's BFF . This book although had some hot sizzling action (not as much as the last one), it was mostly intense on repercussions and healing which is a tad disappointing when one is expecting a light read. There was just too much guilt between the two and sometimes it felt repetitive when the two seemed to be having the same conversation over and over again. Although I have to say that Ty redeemed himself in this book. 😊
Just like the previous book, this too ends with an HFN; so we can expect book 3 to hopefully end this saga with some closure for Eric.

Marginally better than the first book. Still spent most of it daydreaming. There were a couple more comments on men being weak for showing emotion, and this book continued on from the first in having no idea what domination/submission means in the bedroom. There is so much sex in this book I got bored - well, more bored - and started skimming those scenes.

One of my least favourite things about this book was that nothing was left to the imagination. Literally everything was spelled out. Sometimes twice, just with different words. Even stuff that was implied in previous sentences. We have brains. We can figure things out for ourselves.

This book deals with the continuing relationship of Eric and Jesse. The trials, tribulations and trying to navigate this new relationship without stepping on each other toes.

Eric has a lot of work to do to be the man that he knows he can be for Jesse dispite what he went through when he was sixteen. Jesse is trying so hard to be supportive and be the man that Eric needs to help him through this.

Devon McCormack has given his characters in this sensitivity with the subjects that he is addressing in this series. I am very pleased that this was my first series from him.

3.5 stars, rounded up because I enjoyed this more than the first story.

Really happy to get more with Jesse and Eric! They are committed to each other, and determined to make things work. Things with Ty are awkward (and I honestly still think he's blowing things out of proportion with his reaction and reasoning) but both Eric and Jesse are trying their best to communicate with him and include him.

There is also a lot of progress with Eric beginning to cope with his past, and confront it in hopes of moving out and finding a sense of peace. They stumble, hit some road blocks, but I like that they are beginning to talk about it.

I feel like there should be a third story - while these three are in a good place when the story ends, there could definitely be more to tell!

Loved this one! I felt like there was more to the story and it was definitely more emotional. I really enjoyed the developments in Eric and Jesse’s relationship, and seeing them take the next steps, meet all the important people in each other’s lives. I also loved Ty, he is such a sweet and funny guy.

It still drags a bit here and there, and both MCs spend too much time in their own heads, but I enjoyed this a lot!

Ammetto di essere partita un po' prevenuta, non amo particolarmente le trilogie e ancora meno i secondi volumi, troppo spesso ci ritroviamo infatti un inizio pieno di colpi di scena, un finale con il botto e un librettino di mezzo da dimenticare. Visto il mio entusiasmo per il primo capitolo temevo di conseguenza di rimanere delusa. Cosa posso dire ora che ho concluso la lettura? Che non sono mai stata così felice di essermi sbagliata! Questo volume è incantevole e non sfigura per nulla rispetto al primo. Ci ritroviamo tra le mani un sequel fin da subito interessante, molto diverso nei toni, più riflessivo e delicato ma proprio per questo geniale. Avevamo lasciato i nostri protagonisti in un momento particolarmente critico, alle prese con le conseguenze delle loro azioni. Ty dopo aver scoperto la relazione tra il migliore amico e il padre, sentendosi tradito, aveva deciso di voltare loro le spalle ed Eric si era ritrovato alle strette, costretto per la prima volta a mettere in dubbio ogni sua certezza, a rendersi conto del legame ormai intimo e spirituale con il compagno, provando dei sentimenti autentici e lontani dalla semplice attrazione sessuale, dei sentimenti così forti da portarlo finalmente ad aprirsi, a confidare quel segreto che teneva sottochiave dall'età di sedici anni, quella violenza che ancora gli toglie il sonno e che gli ha impedito fino a quel momento di avere un rapporto di coppia normale. Ed è proprio da qui che riprende la nostra storia. Eric e Jesse sono finalmente uniti, non ci sono più segreti tra di loro e quel peso, quella distanza che sembrava ergersi come un muro è stata eliminata. Eric ha confessato la violenza subita da ragazzo permettendo a Jesse di iniziare a comprendere il suo comportamento e le sue insicurezze. La scoperta della loro relazione da parte di Ty è stato un duro colpo per entrambi ma i due uomini sono fiduciosi e desiderosi di riprendere in mano quel rapporto, di essere sinceri per permettere al giovane di comprendere i motivi del loro silenzio e riuscire, seppur con fatica, a perdonarli. Questo secondo capitolo rappresenta l'inizio di un viaggio più complesso ed introspettivo. Dimenticatevi quei toni puramente erotici e spensierati perché qui sono messi da parte, ci ritroviamo ad affrontare insieme ai protagonisti un percorso doloroso e ricco di insidie, un percorso di crescita e cambiamento.
Veniamo portati in una dimensione più realistica, vengono meno i toni sognanti ed erotici da luna di miele che avevano caratterizzato il viaggio a Puerto Vallarta e il ritorno a casa dei due piccioncini. Jesse ed Eric sono costretti ad affrontare problemi della vita reale e proprio per questo mi sono risultati più realistici rispetto al volume precedente. Devono affrontare Ty, gli amici di Eric (un po' una seconda famiglia per l'uomo), i genitori adottivi di Jesse e i terapeuti desiderosi di aiutare Eric e il compagno in un percorso di guarigione e riscoperta di sè. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il modo in cui ci viene mostrato il lento e graduale cambiamento nella relazione tra i due. Jesse continua ad essere un personaggio maturo e responsabile e la sua attenzione e il suo amore verso il compagno sono ammirevoli. Eric è un uomo spezzato e molto spesso si fa guidare dalla paura, dall'ansia, vuole accelerare i processi di guarigione e talvolta è così spaventato da quel futuro che gli appare distante ed ignoto da desiderare di tornare indietro per cancellare tutto, ricominciando a nascondersi e facendo finta di nulla ma la pazienza e l'attenzione del giovane amante riescono a calmarlo e riportarlo sulla giusta strada. Il loro rapporto è speciale perché autentico, verosimile, è la dimostrazione perfetta di come l'amore possa aiutarci, farci capire una parte di noi senza però essere una cura magica che fa dimenticare tutto e tutti con un colpo di spugna, è la dimostrazione di come l'amore possa essere un primo prezioso passo, un aiuto concreto per le nostre vite. In questo romanzo abbiamo modo di stupirci ed emozionarci e di vedere finalmente un Eric diverso, sempre un po' spaventato ed insicuro ma anche pronto a cambiare, a diventare quell'uomo che Jesse merita di avere al suo fianco, un uomo sicuro nelle sue scelte e in pace con i demoni del suo passato, un uomo pronto anche a fare il padre e aprirsi e confidarsi con quel figlio che per molti anni ha solo pensato di conoscere. Ho amato moltissimo il percorso di coppia e il modo in cui ci viene presentata la terapia che Eric deve compiere, una terapia che non è limitata a lui ma che coinvolge attivamente pure il suo fidanzato. Mi sono commossa moltissimo a vedere la coppia alle prese con un percorso complicato e pesante da sostenere ma proprio per questo indispensabile per costruire un futuro migliore. Un libro forte ed emozionante che ci permette di scoprire un lato inedito dei protagonisti e che finalmente ci mostra anche il mondo in cui vivono, in particolare abbiamo finalmente la possibilità di vedere il vero Ty, molto diverso dal ragazzino del primo libro. Con cura ed estrema attenzione assistiamo al lento riavvicinamento tra la coppia e il ragazzo e veniamo sommersi dalle emozioni. Ty non è un bambino, non è il ragazzetto immaturo che sembrava comportarsi come un adolescente bensì un uomo che ha a sua volta sofferto. Siamo stati così abituati a metterci nei panni dei due protagonisti da dimenticarci completamente di lui, abituati a considerarlo immaturo, il ragazzo che non avrebbe mai potuto capire la relazione, che non aveva motivo di sapere. Ty però non è così, è un ragazzo che ha dovuto soffrire in prima persona per l'atteggiamento del padre, un padre che ha conosciuto da pochi anni, che troppo spesso è stato distante e che ora sente come un traditore, un uomo meschino che gli porterà via l'affetto di quell'amico, quell'unico conforto che per molti anni ha avuto. Allo stesso modo non sopporta il tradimento di Jesse, non capisce come possa averlo escluso dalla sua vita non confidandosi con lui e tenendogli nascosta una simile verità. Per lui non è assolutamente facile capire e comprendere i gesti che hanno guidato i due uomini ma è proprio quando sembra che non ci siano possibilità di recupero che ci stupisce, mostrandosi un lato inedito del suo carattere. Nonostante la sofferenza e il dolore che ha provato per quel tradimento vuole a tutti i costi riuscire a ricostruire un rapporto sincero con entrambi. Si rivela essere empatico, maturo e responsabile nonostante l'età ed è stato per me impossibile non desiderare di abbracciarlo per tutto il tempo. L'attenzione con la quale viene trattato il riavvicinamento e il cambiamento di Ty mi ha sorpreso e sono curiosa di scoprire cosa avrà in servo per noi il terzo e ultimo capitolo della serie ora che padre e figlio sembrano decisi a conoscersi meglio e comprendersi a vicenda, sono curiosa di scoprire come reagirà soprattutto il ragazzo alla scoperta del segreto che il genitore ha custodito gelosamente per molti anni. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il confronto tra Jesse e gli amici di Eric e soprattutto quello tra quest'ultimo e i genitori del fidanzatino. In entrambi i casi mi ha fatto sorridere il non assistere per una volta a scene di lotta forzate e piene di drammi inutili. In entrambi i casi ci troviamo di fronte persone mature e responsabili che accettano il rapporto tra i due uomini e che seppur con diffidenza fanno il tifo per la coppia senza volersi imporre inutilmente, i genitori di Jesse soprattutto sono un valore e un esempio raro in romanzi come questo. Spesso si tende a sottolineare l'omofobia e l'intolleranza dei genitori, rappresentati come demoni crudeli incapaci di provare empatia o addirittura mostri pronti a cacciare e bandire quello che fino a pochi minuti prima trattavano come un figlio, come un bene prezioso mentre qui... sono umani, persone come noi che seppur con qualche scetticismo ed imbarazzo verso la differenza d'età e l'identità dell'uomo (pur sempre padre del migliore amico del figlio) accettano la relazione e sono pronti a raccogliere i cocci e proteggere il loro bambino in caso rimanga ferito, una cosa che può sembrare scontata ma che mi ha fatto immenso piacere e commuovere, è sempre bello vedere esempi positivi e mi sento di ringraziare l'autore per questo. Cosa posso dirvi ancora? È un romanzo complesso e con toni più maturi, non fraintendetemi, se amate l'erotismo e i momenti piccanti non rimarrete delusi ma qui questi momenti sono molto meno presenti e più contestualizzati rispetto a prima. Il precedente romanzo era un risveglio della passione e dell'erotismo con annesse scene piccanti che abbondavano in quasi ogni capitolo mentre qui c'è un po' da soffrire per scovarle ma credo che sia da apprezzare proprio per questo, proprio per il suo tentativo di spostarsi da quell'attrazione chimica verso un lato più sentimentale, un passo che era già stato compiuto da Eric con la sua decisione di confidare i suoi demoni al compagno ma che qui trova ulteriori conferme. Non è un romanzo pieno di eventi e colpi di scena bensì un libro introspettivo e che vuole mostrarci l'evoluzione dei protagonisti e del loro rapporto di coppia senza focalizzarsi su scenette inutili ma andando sul sicuro e regalandoci momenti concreti e utili al fine di rendere ancora più solido il loro rapporto e amore. Abbiamo un cliffhanger meno accentuato rispetto al precedente, che quasi si fatica a definire come tale, siamo meno in sospeso ma proprio per questo si è spinti a desiderare il terzo e ultimo capitolo ancora di più. Un seguito senza dubbio riuscito e che potrà forse un po' sorprendere, più o meno in positivo a seconda dei punti di vista e delle aspettative ma che per me deve essere letto. Sempre curato, ben scritto ed intenso ,sono sicura che riuscirà a commuovervi e stregarvi. Se avete letto il primo libro non potete farvelo scappare e se ancora non lo avete fatto... beh... avete ancora un po' di tempo per recuperarlo e mettervi in pari in tempo per il gran finale che uscirà, per fortuna, tra pochi mesi.

This book impressed me more than the first. I felt there was more depth to the characters and more of a story. I enjoyed Ty's character as the best friend and son in this book better than the first as well. For some reason this book just felt more meaningful.

This was such a good book. I had mixed emotions during it though. At times, I felt so bad for Eric, knowing what he was going through. And times I really wanted to smack Ty. I can understand the hurt or feeling betrayed but I don't think it was quite as big of a deal as Ty was making it. Maybe I'm wrong. But Jesse, he almost had the worst of it to me. Trying to be everything that everyone needs. Being there as people are reliving experiences and the nightmares and having to watch the effects. It's hard. I don't know. They all had it bad. This was an emotional ride.

Eric and Jesse have just come out to Ty. They knew there would be backlash, but wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was. And then the bombshell Eric dropped on Jesse. It's been a hell of a night. But Jesse is determined to show Eric he's not alone and to help him get the help he needs. And be there if he needs him to be. He's also wanting to fix things with Ty, but he knows it will take time and space. As Eric and Jesse get closer through their relationship, there are a lot of demons to sort through. Sometimes communication gets crossed and things don't go well, but they are trying to do the right things and the best things for them. Therapy is helping to a point, but Eric has to learn to get out of his head. As far as Ty, they are all speaking again, but it's strained. Maybe someday things will be where they need to be. Hopefully time will tell.

Shew. Man these three. I didn't know what to do about these three lol. Jesse had my heart from the get go. To me, he is like the one holding it all together with glue and duct tape, and it's wearing on him. When you love someone, you do all you can for them and Jesse is doing that for Eric, but sometimes it's exhausting. Eric, I feel for, for all he's gone through. It's horrible and I empathize with him. So much. He's trying to fix himself but sometimes it feels like the exercises are pointless. But he has to push through to be able to give Jesse all that he deserves. And that's all of him. ALL of him. And then there's Ty. I don't know about him to be honest. He got on my nerves in the first book to be honest, because he acted so immature sometimes. And it's like he didn't want to try with his dad, Eric. But then whines that he does what a relationship with him. And I understand his hurt at their relationship behind his back. I get that. Especially considering it's his best friend and his dad. But to me he's almost acting selfish about it now. Like he's making it all about him instead of seeing how they make each other happy and how in love they are. So I'm in an emotional upheaval lol. But it's a damn good book.

Go pick it up and read it!

Ero molto curiosa, ma anche timorosa, di leggere come sarebbe proseguita la storia di Eric e Jesse dopo il colpo di scena alla fine del primo libro. Ora, dopo avere appena finito di leggere questo secondo volume, posso dire con certezza che McCormack non ha deluso le mie aspettative, ma soprattutto sono nuovamente in crisi di astinenza. Mi mancano, e voglio il terzo libro tipo… adesso! Questa storia mi è entrata nel cuore, i due protagonisti, anzi tre, li ho amati tantissimo. È impossibile non affezionarsi al forte ma anche fragile Eric, o al divertente ma appassionato Jesse, e che dire del tenero e sensibile Ty… ognuno di loro ha contribuito a rendere interessante la lettura di questo romanzo, sono pezzi di un puzzle che solo se assieme possono dare vita a un bellissimo quadro.

In questo libro troviamo Eric che, supportato da Jesse, decide di affrontare il trauma passato in un percorso riabilitativo; lo vedremo vacillare preda dei dubbi, lo vedremo cadere nei vecchi meccanismi di autodifesa, ma lo vedremo anche rialzarsi e affrontare le difficoltà. Ma soprattutto lo vedremo rendersi conto che quel “ragazzino” è il suo “biglietto” per la felicità, per l’amore e anche per riallacciare i rapporti con Ty, quel figlio che ha sempre tenuto a distanza.

Jesse, sempre più innamorato di Eric, cercherà di essere il sostegno di cui il compagno ha bisogno; lo affiancherà nelle sedute, lo aiuterà quando glielo chiederà e anche quando non lo farà. Sarà la roccia alla quale Eric si potrà aggrappare nei momenti più cupi. Ma Jesse convive con il senso di colpa per quanto successo con il suo migliore amico, Ty, e quando si presenta l’occasione per poter riallacciare il loro rapporto, non se la fa sfuggire.

Ty forse non sarà uno dei protagonisti, ma di sicuro il suo personaggio è molto importante ai fini della storia e dell’evoluzione dei due protagonisti. Dopo il tradimento subito è disposto a riallacciare i rapporti con il padre e con il migliore amico, dando prova di grande maturità e bontà (se non ho capito male, McCormack ha in serbo un libro su di lui e io non vedo l’ora di poterlo leggere).

In questo romanzo, l’atmosfera scanzonata cede il passo a una più greve e seria ma, tranquille, le battute distensive di Jesse ci sono ancora e aiuteranno a non rendere la narrazione troppo pesante e noiosa. È emozionante vedere come la storia tra Eric e Jesse si approfondirà, diventando ufficiale; i momenti di dolcezza tra loro saranno struggenti e dolcissimi. Ma anche calienti, perché tra i due le fiamme della passione divampano e bruciano. Le difficoltà che dovranno affrontare li rafforzeranno come coppia, si renderanno conto che sono fatti l’uno per l’altro.

Lo si legge tutto d’un fiato, pagina dopo pagina ci si sente parte della loro storia; farete il tifo per l’uno o per l’altro, soffrirete, riderete e appena avrete girato l’ultima pagina vi direte: “E adesso? Devo aspettare per sapere come finirà? Noooo!”
Se avete voglia di emozionarvi vi consiglio questa serie, non ve ne pentirete.

Faccio il punto della situazione per chi ha letto il primo volume, per chi non lo avesse fatto cercherò di evitare spoiler in rispetto a voi.

Considerazioni

Pov alternati in prima persona al presente portano il lettore a vedere grazie agli occhi dei protagonisti.
Ogni emozione, dubbio, paura o riflessione ci invade come se fossero nostre.
Il sesso in questo libro è il terreno di confronto tra i due personaggi che si cercano, dominano, scontrano in quest'ambito. Le descrizioni sono come al solito dettagliate e le scene torride.
Si aggiunge una componente psicologica molto forte  che crea dei momenti di tensione estremi.
L'autore ha trattato con delicatezza argomenti per nulla facili, si vede la ricerca che ha fatto in ambito specialistico per ricreare al meglio ogni situazione.
In tutto ciò mi è piaciuto assistere a ogni sfumatura emotiva che i tre provano.

HA! I REALLY liked this one! First book took an unexpected turn in the last pages with Eric’s history of having being sexually assaltes and what was just a age-gap trope turned into something more serious. I gotta say, I liked it. It gave more depth to both characters and a lot of Eric’s personality issues got “explained”.

I liked how the book dealt with Eric’s “problem”, how it didn’t turn into “magic dick” trope and how it’s showed how hard Eric and Jessie have to work to overcome Eric’s issue.

Can I say I love my guys? They are both so sweet and hot and they love each other so much! Also, I love Ty. He’s so mature and he dealt so well with Eric and Jessie being together. Better than I expected to be honest.

I just hope there will be a third book because a lot of their issues were left unsolved and I need to see how everything turns out.

Once and again Michael Pauley is too much for my poor heart. Dude is so into what he’s reading it makes me blush sometimes.

3.5 maybe?

Lots of shame and self loathing and negativity about the two of them getting together.

Then there’s the journey into therapy land where one mc is almost like one of the other MC’s therapists.

All the talking! About feelings! But in therapy-speak. (To be fair, no one starts a sentence with ‘know that….”) And The sex is kinda like all the other sex! Maybe he cut and pasted those paragraphs (chapters?)?

My impatience with the therapy stuff is that I have a therapist and my treatment with her and her predecessor have played a massive part in my healing journey. A good therapist can be an immense and profound help.

But! The therapeutic role is different from the role of a lover (or by god it ought to be) even when the lover accompanies the client to consults and plays an active role in the healing journey.

So that stuff was all pretty annoying, and yet I kept reading….

After just finishing this book I had to think for a while before writing a review...
The book was more complex that I thought as I thought more about all that happened between them all.
Age differences have not fazed me its part of life that will find love no matter..

The therapy aspects were written very well I was so glad that Eric always had Jesse by his side .

Jesse who was always committed ..

As the story grew the understanding between all three men grew it wasn't an easy situation at all but eventually it was worked out..
You definitely need to read book 1 first ...

The therapy aspects dealing with Eric's past are so well done. Loved the interactions with Ty this go around and felt the emotional aspects between our MCs was amazingly written. Some aspects did not work for me as well and overall this feels incomplete. I am desperately hoping for a 3rd book...we shall see.

Disappointed. After all that going round and round, and this is where we’re left? So much unresolved and yes it’s HFN. But I’m not that compelled to go onto #3. Lots of angst but it did seem to drag on and on. I feel like ending was just dumped on us. I liked most of the book, a bit more than #1. But an empty feeling with out eager anticipation for the next is not very promising.

Wow!

Normally, I would say having the same story go on for 3 books was ridiculous. I’m happy to say with this series, it’s quite the opposite.

There is so much to tell, details that are prudent to this tale that cannot be eliminated.

As I sit here writing this review, my brain is already prodding me to hurry it up so I can dive into book 3.

Eric and Jesse are working on their happy ever after. They have a lot of Eric issues to work through, plus Jesse needs to fix his relationship with Tyler.

Ammetto di essere partita un po' prevenuta, non amo particolarmente le trilogie e ancora meno i secondi volumi, troppo spesso ci ritroviamo infatti un inizio pieno di colpi di scena, un finale con il botto e un librettino di mezzo da dimenticare. Visto il mio entusiasmo per il primo capitolo temevo di conseguenza di rimanere delusa. Cosa posso dire ora che ho concluso la lettura? Che non sono mai stata così felice di essermi sbagliata! Questo volume è incantevole e non sfigura per nulla rispetto al primo. Ci ritroviamo tra le mani un sequel fin da subito interessante, molto diverso nei toni, più riflessivo e delicato ma proprio per questo geniale. Avevamo lasciato i nostri protagonisti in un momento particolarmente critico, alle prese con le conseguenze delle loro azioni. Ty dopo aver scoperto la relazione tra il migliore amico e il padre, sentendosi tradito, aveva deciso di voltare loro le spalle ed Eric si era ritrovato alle strette, costretto per la prima volta a mettere in dubbio ogni sua certezza, a rendersi conto del legame ormai intimo e spirituale con il compagno, provando dei sentimenti autentici e lontani dalla semplice attrazione sessuale, dei sentimenti così forti da portarlo finalmente ad aprirsi, a confidare quel segreto che teneva sottochiave dall'età di sedici anni, quella violenza che ancora gli toglie il sonno e che gli ha impedito fino a quel momento di avere un rapporto di coppia normale. Ed è proprio da qui che riprende la nostra storia. Eric e Jesse sono finalmente uniti, non ci sono più segreti tra di loro e quel peso, quella distanza che sembrava ergersi come un muro è stata eliminata. Eric ha confessato la violenza subita da ragazzo permettendo a Jesse di iniziare a comprendere il suo comportamento e le sue insicurezze. La scoperta della loro relazione da parte di Ty è stato un duro colpo per entrambi ma i due uomini sono fiduciosi e desiderosi di riprendere in mano quel rapporto, di essere sinceri per permettere al giovane di comprendere i motivi del loro silenzio e riuscire, seppur con fatica, a perdonarli. Questo secondo capitolo rappresenta l'inizio di un viaggio più complesso ed introspettivo. Dimenticatevi quei toni puramente erotici e spensierati perché qui sono messi da parte, ci ritroviamo ad affrontare insieme ai protagonisti un percorso doloroso e ricco di insidie, un percorso di crescita e cambiamento.
Veniamo portati in una dimensione più realistica, vengono meno i toni sognanti ed erotici da luna di miele che avevano caratterizzato il viaggio a Puerto Vallarta e il ritorno a casa dei due piccioncini. Jesse ed Eric sono costretti ad affrontare problemi della vita reale e proprio per questo mi sono risultati più realistici rispetto al volume precedente. Devono affrontare Ty, gli amici di Eric (un po' una seconda famiglia per l'uomo), i genitori adottivi di Jesse e i terapeuti desiderosi di aiutare Eric e il compagno in un percorso di guarigione e riscoperta di sè. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il modo in cui ci viene mostrato il lento e graduale cambiamento nella relazione tra i due. Jesse continua ad essere un personaggio maturo e responsabile e la sua attenzione e il suo amore verso il compagno sono ammirevoli. Eric è un uomo spezzato e molto spesso si fa guidare dalla paura, dall'ansia, vuole accelerare i processi di guarigione e talvolta è così spaventato da quel futuro che gli appare distante ed ignoto da desiderare di tornare indietro per cancellare tutto, ricominciando a nascondersi e facendo finta di nulla ma la pazienza e l'attenzione del giovane amante riescono a calmarlo e riportarlo sulla giusta strada. Il loro rapporto è speciale perché autentico, verosimile, è la dimostrazione perfetta di come l'amore possa aiutarci, farci capire una parte di noi senza però essere una cura magica che fa dimenticare tutto e tutti con un colpo di spugna, è la dimostrazione di come l'amore possa essere un primo prezioso passo, un aiuto concreto per le nostre vite. In questo romanzo abbiamo modo di stupirci ed emozionarci e di vedere finalmente un Eric diverso, sempre un po' spaventato ed insicuro ma anche pronto a cambiare, a diventare quell'uomo che Jesse merita di avere al suo fianco, un uomo sicuro nelle sue scelte e in pace con i demoni del suo passato, un uomo pronto anche a fare il padre e aprirsi e confidarsi con quel figlio che per molti anni ha solo pensato di conoscere. Ho amato moltissimo il percorso di coppia e il modo in cui ci viene presentata la terapia che Eric deve compiere, una terapia che non è limitata a lui ma che coinvolge attivamente pure il suo fidanzato. Mi sono commossa moltissimo a vedere la coppia alle prese con un percorso complicato e pesante da sostenere ma proprio per questo indispensabile per costruire un futuro migliore. Un libro forte ed emozionante che ci permette di scoprire un lato inedito dei protagonisti e che finalmente ci mostra anche il mondo in cui vivono, in particolare abbiamo finalmente la possibilità di vedere il vero Ty, molto diverso dal ragazzino del primo libro. Con cura ed estrema attenzione assistiamo al lento riavvicinamento tra la coppia e il ragazzo e veniamo sommersi dalle emozioni. Ty non è un bambino, non è il ragazzetto immaturo che sembrava comportarsi come un adolescente bensì un uomo che ha a sua volta sofferto. Siamo stati così abituati a metterci nei panni dei due protagonisti da dimenticarci completamente di lui, abituati a considerarlo immaturo, il ragazzo che non avrebbe mai potuto capire la relazione, che non aveva motivo di sapere. Ty però non è così, è un ragazzo che ha dovuto soffrire in prima persona per l'atteggiamento del padre, un padre che ha conosciuto da pochi anni, che troppo spesso è stato distante e che ora sente come un traditore, un uomo meschino che gli porterà via l'affetto di quell'amico, quell'unico conforto che per molti anni ha avuto. Allo stesso modo non sopporta il tradimento di Jesse, non capisce come possa averlo escluso dalla sua vita non confidandosi con lui e tenendogli nascosta una simile verità. Per lui non è assolutamente facile capire e comprendere i gesti che hanno guidato i due uomini ma è proprio quando sembra che non ci siano possibilità di recupero che ci stupisce, mostrandosi un lato inedito del suo carattere. Nonostante la sofferenza e il dolore che ha provato per quel tradimento vuole a tutti i costi riuscire a ricostruire un rapporto sincero con entrambi. Si rivela essere empatico, maturo e responsabile nonostante l'età ed è stato per me impossibile non desiderare di abbracciarlo per tutto il tempo. L'attenzione con la quale viene trattato il riavvicinamento e il cambiamento di Ty mi ha sorpreso e sono curiosa di scoprire cosa avrà in servo per noi il terzo e ultimo capitolo della serie ora che padre e figlio sembrano decisi a conoscersi meglio e comprendersi a vicenda, sono curiosa di scoprire come reagirà soprattutto il ragazzo alla scoperta del segreto che il genitore ha custodito gelosamente per molti anni. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il confronto tra Jesse e gli amici di Eric e soprattutto quello tra quest'ultimo e i genitori del fidanzatino. In entrambi i casi mi ha fatto sorridere il non assistere per una volta a scene di lotta forzate e piene di drammi inutili. In entrambi i casi ci troviamo di fronte persone mature e responsabili che accettano il rapporto tra i due uomini e che seppur con diffidenza fanno il tifo per la coppia senza volersi imporre inutilmente, i genitori di Jesse soprattutto sono un valore e un esempio raro in romanzi come questo. Spesso si tende a sottolineare l'omofobia e l'intolleranza dei genitori, rappresentati come demoni crudeli incapaci di provare empatia o addirittura mostri pronti a cacciare e bandire quello che fino a pochi minuti prima trattavano come un figlio, come un bene prezioso mentre qui... sono umani, persone come noi che seppur con qualche scetticismo ed imbarazzo verso la differenza d'età e l'identità dell'uomo (pur sempre padre del migliore amico del figlio) accettano la relazione e sono pronti a raccogliere i cocci e proteggere il loro bambino in caso rimanga ferito, una cosa che può sembrare scontata ma che mi ha fatto immenso piacere e commuovere, è sempre bello vedere esempi positivi e mi sento di ringraziare l'autore per questo. Cosa posso dirvi ancora? È un romanzo complesso e con toni più maturi, non fraintendetemi, se amate l'erotismo e i momenti piccanti non rimarrete delusi ma qui questi momenti sono molto meno presenti e più contestualizzati rispetto a prima. Il precedente romanzo era un risveglio della passione e dell'erotismo con annesse scene piccanti che abbondavano in quasi ogni capitolo mentre qui c'è un po' da soffrire per scovarle ma credo che sia da apprezzare proprio per questo, proprio per il suo tentativo di spostarsi da quell'attrazione chimica verso un lato più sentimentale, un passo che era già stato compiuto da Eric con la sua decisione di confidare i suoi demoni al compagno ma che qui trova ulteriori conferme. Non è un romanzo pieno di eventi e colpi di scena bensì un libro introspettivo e che vuole mostrarci l'evoluzione dei protagonisti e del loro rapporto di coppia senza focalizzarsi su scenette inutili ma andando sul sicuro e regalandoci momenti concreti e utili al fine di rendere ancora più solido il loro rapporto e amore. Abbiamo un cliffhanger meno accentuato rispetto al precedente, che quasi si fatica a definire come tale, siamo meno in sospeso ma proprio per questo si è spinti a desiderare il terzo e ultimo capitolo ancora di più. Un seguito senza dubbio riuscito e che potrà forse un po' sorprendere, più o meno in positivo a seconda dei punti di vista e delle aspettative ma che per me deve essere letto. Sempre curato, ben scritto ed intenso ,sono sicura che riuscirà a commuovervi e stregarvi. Se avete letto il primo libro non potete farvelo scappare e se ancora non lo avete fatto... beh... avete ancora un po' di tempo per recuperarlo e mettervi in pari in tempo per il gran finale che uscirà, per fortuna, tra pochi mesi.
