Worth It is the debut poetry collection from Erin Matlock, spanning four heart-gripping acts which explore life, heartbreak, love and the courage to choose yourself. Matlock is a mental health activist and advisor who challenges the stigma of depression and suicide through deeply personal accounts of survival and public recovery. Her writing uniquely captures stirring snapshots of life; taking readers on a journey through self-discovery, loss, failure, aloneness, trusting yourself, eternal love and empowerment. Included are personal photographs of the Arizona trails and mountains she hikes to protect her quiet peace and calm her wild mind. This raw, beautiful debut will inspire you to take stock of your life, embrace the explosive love of this world and rise up into who you were destined to be.
I found the author's afterword to be much more moving than the actual poetry. I think her perspective would be more effectively communicated through a traditional memoir and would very much like to read that.
This book was worth it (pun intended). As someone who struggles with mental illness, this book was able to put a small fraction of my thoughts on paper and the last few sections inspired me just a bit. 4/5 Stars - Absolutely worth it

I loved everything about this collection. I felt I spired and powerful. I felt vindicated and important. Beautiful words. The book ends at about 70%, but the end has beautiful words for my the author about her personal struggles. Don’t skip it! Enjoy!
What a glorious poetry and I’m glad that I read this at the end of 2023. Some of the poems really stood out to me. I also loved the author’s note at the end and it just shows that her poetry is not the same instagram-tumblr recycled writing that we’ve all read before. AND THAT AUTHOR’s note just shows that she’s a genuine writer who wants to help out others. I highly recommend this collection.
Such a beautiful book and so much I can relate to on a personal level. I read the one about going around the fire and realizing you don’t have to be burned over and over. It was such a moment of realization that people can only burn you if you let them.
