The Baby Deal

Rate this book
The deal was simple.

Alexis wanted a baby and so did Deacon. No dotted line to sign on, no lawyers involved. Just an agreement between two neighbors to get her knocked up and have the one thing they both desperately desired.

A baby.

And as easy as that sounded, how uncomplicated it should have all been, it was anything but.

Alexis was in love with Deacon.

Deacon was in love with Alexis.

But both were too afraid to admit how they felt to the other ... until they weren’t.

It should’ve been a simple agreement—a baby deal—but it turned out to be so much more.

Great minds think alike!

This was a cute but sexy little story where after five years of being neighbors and only having small talks, H/h -- Deacon and Alexis realized they adored (loved) one another and both wanted a child so they make an arrangement to do just that... have a baby! One thing leads to another and why of course they get their HEA!

"Tonight she’d be honest with him. Tonight she’d tell him what she wanted, even if it was the craziest fucking thing ever." - Alexis

"Throughout all of his years, he’d never once been on a date or gone to dinner with a woman, or done anything that could put him in that line of fire. Before Alexis, when he’d met females, he’d picked them up in bars. He’d never had relationships with them, not for more than a few hours. No messy breakups. No chance of finding each other again. No commitment. Random, meaningless sex. -Deacon's inner voice

"Yet, with Alexis, he wanted to do something like that. He’d been celibate since the moment he laid eyes on her, only wanting her, only needing her. He wanted to do mundane things, like take her out to fucking dinner, or hear about her day. Just listen to her talk." - Deacon being real with himself

“My first rule then: I don’t want to do this the medical route.” - Now who do you think said that!

Funny quote from the book as Deacon eavesdrops-- “All these people that have like ten kids. I have two and they drive me crazy. Dillon, he’s been trained to use the toilet and he took a dump in the corner of the playroom, on the only piece of carpet there!"
“What’s worse is he looked at me, pointed at the spot, and told me to go and clean it. I mean, like I was his maid or something.”

It was ok for a quick and relaxed read, with no dramas. I liked Alexis and Deacon. But I missed a bit alpha attitude with Deacon. He was too much... Not sure how to put it. It just, he fluttered too much and I wished he just find his balls and just gone after what he wanted. The same can be said about Alexis. They just were too much dancing around theirs feelings, wondering 'what ifs' and wasting precious time.

THE BABY DEAL is about two neighbors who secretly loved each for years. But both Alexis and Deacon didn't have the courage to talk and admit their feelings until an idea came up- they both want to have a baby. So, they made a deal. But in the end, the baby had sealed their HEA. This sweet and sexy book was exciting! Loved it!

I have received and read an advanced copy of this book and this is a fair and honest review and recommendation voluntarily shared.

What a nice surprise... Sexy, over the top hot and so good.

Deacon and Alexis both liked each other but both of them were to shy to make the first move. Until they both realized that they loved kids and they both wanted to have a baby... So a deal was made... But that's not where it stops. The baby was just the beginning...

Loved this short story. It was definitely sweet and so sexy. Exactly what I expect from these two authors!

I really loved this story about two neighbors, Alexis and Deacon, who are in love with each other but they tell each other. Both are looking for kids so when it comes up one night after several bottles of wine, they agree to have a baby together. Deacon wants it done the old fashion way! This may be an over the top love story but it is well written and the characters keep you engaged the whole time. I loved having the epilogues!!!! Just sort of ties the story together!!!

Alexis & Deacon

I was very close to DNF this.
I am not used to this Quality from either Jenika Snow and Sam Crescent, but this is awful.

From the synopsis I thought they were friendly neighbours who were friendly and hung out in neighbourly occasions (idk potluck's, street festival or something). And they just happen to talk about their wish for a baby. And since they like each other, they then try for one. And by trying I mean TRYING. Several times. I expected a way smuttier book.

But no! They don't even speak at the beginning.
I mean besides one word sentences when they see each other - rarely! while entering their respective homes. They only watch each other and lust after each other when they're mowing the lawn or working on vehicles. They're been living next to each other for FIVE years. Come on!

So, Alexis inviting Deacon into her home for dinner was their FIRST proper interaction and first ever dinner together. He did not have the guts to go after her. Sigh. Okay. Fine. A shy male hero is a nice change of pace. But it just wasn't natural. - They both were so awkward with each other. And it did not change until the very end of the book, until the epilogue.

Their baby deal was made within the first hour of properly speaking. And it took until the half point of the book until they finally proceeded to get onto it - meaning sex. But somehow the sex scene ended abruptly. Basically he climaxes and then CUT. End of chapter. The next chapter starts a day later, when she is alone asking herself if he regretted taking the deal.

The chapter after that is a week later, apparently they did not see each other or have sex during that time? Instead Deacon is speaking to one of his friends who hollered after Alexis at the beginning of the novel? What?

Honestly that is when I began to skim the book. They basically said I love you to each other the chapter after that one. Yes. After speaking twice, having sex once and a week of not seeing each other.
Then her grandma died and they don't see each other for WEEKs on end, and she did NOT tell him what was happening - even tho they both confessed their love before. She takes a pregnancy test. It's positive. She tells him. They want to be together. The end + epilogue.

I just ... what the damn hell was this?!
This was disjointed, rushed and at the same time dragged out and not at all what I expected.
Disappointing.

So at first I wasn't sure how this particular plot was going to work, since it's a little out there but the solid development of the characters and good story-telling made it work well, resulting in an enjoyable read with a warm, fuzzy-feeling ending.

The characters were both very likable and I really liked that for once there was a gorgeous, alpha-type male who was still a little shy and insecure. It gave a fresh feeling to the story. I always like stories with dual points of view, which this one had. The ending was satisfying and the inclusion of epilogues made it even more satisfying and complete.

The one downside was that I found the writing a little repetitive at times, revisiting the same ground and back and forth feelings. It was still easy to read and keep turning the pages, but I think maybe some of that could have been used more productively for new insights into the characters.

Overall an enjoyable, easy read. Recommended to those who like somewhat steamy contemporary romance, especially those who are looking for something with a bit of a different slant. Thanks to Booksprout for my copy which I am voluntarily reviewing.

Incredible HEA

Alexis had the best 5 year plan. Actually, it was a forever plan which included toothless smiles, chubby legs and sloppy kisses. The hardest part was to get her neighbor to agree. Deacon was a main player in this plan and she hoped he would be onboard.

Deacon was so far over the edge for his neighbor, Alexis. She was his fantasy woman and the only one he could picture as his wife and the mother of his children. He didn’t know how she felt about this because he didn’t want to risk losing this perfect idea of family by spilling it to her. Safer to be quiet and enjoy seeing her daily to having her freak out and move.

Fate decided to give them a well placed shove together and the fireworks exploded. Perfection wasn’t even close to what they hoped for....
I really enjoyed this author combo. They are flawless in their writing and I’m hoping for a lot more.
Great book!!!

Two neighbours - Alexis and Deacon.  She loves him.  He loves her.  They have done for years.  But neither has declared their love for the other.  They both want a baby so why not help each other out without any legal mumbo jumbo?   What starts out as a simple arrangement between friends soon becomes embroiled with emotions, lust, passion and love.  These two people belong together but will they carry on as they are or will they reveal their feelings??  I loved this story by Jenika Snow and Sam Crescent [who is a new author to me but I will certainly be on the look out for more of her stories as I enjoyed this one so much].  They are a terrific team of writers and I look forward with impatience for reading more of their stories.  I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A Must Have Read - Definitely Recommended!!

This was a great quick read that was cute and sexy

Deacon and Alexis have lived next door to each other for five years ignoring their attraction and growing feelings. They are both finally ready to go after what they want and come to a mutually agreeable arrangement. That’s where the Baby Deal comes in. Deacon agrees to getting her pregnant in the hopes that she will see him for what he truly is a man in love with her and willing to take what he can get and show her what she can have.

Alexis wants Deacon more than anything after spending the past five years hiding behind her curtains watching him thinking he could never be interested in her is she about to get everything she ever wanted the man of her dreams and the family she always wanted?

Safe with no drama. Fab short read and always love the epilogues!

I really wanted to like this book but,

I couldn’t get past the unnecessary five years that they supposedly loved each other but never gave each other the time of day. Smh. It was such a stupid story premise that I just didn’t get it.

It would have made more since if the authors had described it as every time they both tried to start something life or circumstances had intervened. But that they were just too shy to talk to each other. That’s just ridiculous. They were close to thirty!

Also, the continuity issues this author is famous for I just could ignore here. I liked the idea of the book but this was not executed well. I did like the epilogues though. HEA can almost always save a book. Otherwise, this book was just okay. Not worth a second read.

Scorching hot and heart-twisting emotion

Sam Crescent and jenika snow knocked this one outta the park. Sometimes their books can be a miss, but this one was a bullseye.

Two neighbors, longing for each other for years, too afraid of the others rejection to expose themselves. One evening after too many glasses of wine, a confession: I want a baby. Your baby.

And the deal is on.

The hero is a good, possessive, decent guy. Salt of the earth. And the heroine is a shy virgin. What could be a better, more emotionally satisfying combo? I LOVED the fact the authors didn’t have the heroine spreading her legs for another dude. The hero gets to CLAIM ALL OF HER.

Wish they wrote more like this.

This story is short, fast paced and a nice read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I liked Alexis and Deacon. It was clear to see that both of them were attracted to one another. They both had feelings for one another but were too shy to confess.
I liked that after a few glasses of wine, Alexis was brave enough to tell Deacon about wanting to have a baby with him. I liked that Deacon was on board with the deal and used it to his advantage.
The chemistry between Deacon and Alexis was clear to see. Overall, I enjoyed this short story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read.

I really enjoyed this fast paced read. A steamy romance that also offers a lot of sweetness. Alexis and Deacon will make you smile. Neighbors, in love with each other for years, each resisting their feelings and refusing to do anything about it. Finally, the shared desire for a baby causes them to strike what they believe is a simple and uncomplicated deal. It isn't long before lines are getting blurred and the attraction and chemistry they've been fighting flares out of control. A very, very pleasurable read. I'm posting an honest, voluntary review.

A really good contemporary romance. 💞

This book was really good as it was about two people who are both too shy to admit that they care for each other. I'm a big believer in letting things work out on their our timescale and these two definitely did. Alexis & Deacon have lived next door to each other for five years and other than the occasional greeting, they haven't really taken the chance to get to know each other. When that finally changes... oh, my! 💞💓💞

It was a bit different from the ones I've read from this type. It was cute, but I just felt the "dialogue" between them was off. Sometimes it was to proper and didn't "sound" realistic. The way they fell in love also threw me for a loop. You mean to tell me that you spent 5 years watching someone and only said the occasional hello and that meant you were completely in love with that person?! Yeah, that was weird...

Man I really hate passive heroes, how many more years would he have waited to make his move if she hadn't invited him to dinner?

°Hero's been celibate for 5 years (since he met her)
°Switching POVs

A captivating, wonderful love story. It is well written with a well thought-out storyline that is interesting and consistent. A fast pace page-turner with one of the sweetest, strongest, sincerest couple I have ever read about. I smiled though out the entire book. A well-deserved 5 star rating! Jenika Snow and Sam Crescent? What more can you ask for. Amazing on their own and dynamite together! Alexis and Deacon have secretly been in love with each other for 5 years. Dinner and a couple bottles of wine later they finally admit to having feelings...and I won't spoil it but there is definitely a baby involved.

I know it's fiction, but this is a complete suspension of reality here. They've had 5 conversations over the past 5 years, and yet they both claim to love each other, and without even mentioning that to each other, agree to have a kid together. I just can't buy into their connection, and thus, the story.

A fast paced story of neighbors who have been silently lusting after each other.....for years! It's a fast paced story that was so well written you won't feel a disconnect with the characters. Having multiple epilogues makes the story because you know they continue to grow together
