' born this gay is a collection of lgbtq+ poetry from one of us, for all of us. to let you know you're seen, you're loved and you're valid. keep on fighting, my loves.
I got this book from the author, and I have never been happier. Usually, I'm not a big fan of this kind of poetry, and there were some that worked a lot better than others, but this book was so compelling and so well done that I hope it can get more recognition.
If you like Amanda Lovelace's The Princess Saves Herself or Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur, you're going to want to read Born This Gay.
Babet is one of my dearest friends, and they gifted me this book. Nevertheless, my review is honest and real.
Born this gay, just the title in itself is amazing. Therefore I did have quite some expectations. Those expectations were met, and more. The way Babet writes down their deepest feelings, so clearly and so heartfelt, is truly wonderful. I was met with a surge of emotions while reading this. Babets personality, their intense, deep and fulfilling kindness, gives this book its unique shape. It’s like being given a piece of their soul. I love this book and I’m so proud of Babet. My dearest, please, stay you, forever.
this book felt like the warmest hug - a bisexual gender-questioning 19 year old
Reading writing from any queer person always fills my heart with wonder, it makes me feel empowered and makes me hope one day I could put out my own content.
Thank you Babet for making me feel represented. For publishing poems about the queer experience, your experience. I think you're uncredibly brave and wonderful.
A lot of these poems really spoke to me. It felt so incredibly validating to read about crushes on girls, about love, about mental health and being comforted that it'll be okay and things will get better. I used to feel incredibly ashamed about not liking dudes as much as all the straight girls my age, used to feel confused and ashamed about liking girls but through representation, self-love and community I found pride. And I know for sure your poetry will find it's way to people who need to hear these words to know it's okay to be themselves.
Some of my favourite poems: bright, horizons, mirror, spring, soft, praise, phase, reminders, waiting, love, politics & self.
I bought this book after I saw the author perform another poem, and I was immediately intrigued. I loved the style of the poems, easy to read but at the same time pretty and well thought out. It felt personal to read, but at the same time it was easy to connect with. Overall, I really recommend this book.
