Food can be powerful medicine, but trying to shop, cook, and eat healthy food with fibromyalgia can feel like an insurmountable challenge. Dr. Ginevra Liptan, author of "The A Complete Fibromyalgia Treatment Guide for You and Your Doctor," and nutritionist Anna Walker present clear and easy-to-follow advice for simple dietary changes that can help relieve fibromyalgia symptoms. This book will take you step-by-step through the process of developing your personal Fibro Food Formula, allowing you to focus on the most important diet changes that enable you to spend your energy wisely. It serves as a companion to "The FibroManual," containing the same dietary guidance but in a very simple, user-friendly approach with keys to making it happen in real life and tips from fibromyalgia patients on how they have reduced their symptoms and made food prep and cooking easier.
Ginevra Liptan, M.D. is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, board-certified in internal medicine, and trained in functional medicine, a holistic approach that blends both western and alternative medicine. After developing fibromyalgia as a medical student, Dr. Liptan spent many years using herself as guinea pig to find successful treatments, and has fine-tuned her approach by treating thousands of patients.
She is one of the few clinical specialists in the world to focus solely on fibromyalgia, and directs The Frida Center for Fibromyalgia in Portland, Oregon. She also serves as medical advisor to the Fibromyalgia Information Foundation and is on the board for the non-profit Mastering Pain Institute.
She is the author of The FibroManual: A Complete Fibromyalgia Treatment Guide for You and Your Doctor and Figuring out Fibromyalgia: Current Science and the Most Effective Treatments.
Lots of helpful tips for figuring out what does and doesn't work for your diet. A lot of paleo cooking is complicated and requires lots of specialty ingredients, plus there tends to be an all-or-nothing mentality that's not good. This book tackles the mindset side of it and is very compassionate and supportive.
I was definitely surprised by the recommendation to cut out MSG, because many studies have shown it to be harmless, but I'm curious and will look into it more. I've never tried eliminating it, or learned the list of ingredients that can contain it, so might be worthwhile to give it a shot.
Very disappointed in this book. Authors talk about eliminating inflammatory foods and yet think eating meat is okay when in fact, meat is very inflammatory. They also keep referencing a previous book they wrote which sounded like a shameless sales pitch. Written very simply with much repeated verbiage.
Really enjoyed this book and I'm reading the partner book Fibro Manual right now.
I've been on a vegan keto diet for 8 months now and I'm looking to reincorporate different foods back into my diet. Very thankful to have this information on hand.
The only reason it's not 5 stars is because I found the recipes in the back formatted in a weird and confusing way. To me, that part of the book is a waste of space- especially if you don't eat meat since the recipes aren't super veggie friendly.
A good book to keep in your library if you have food sensitivities. I've cut out a lot of food and know which other ones to stay away from. I feel a lot better.
This book is wonderful after your fibromyalgia diagnosis and the what now question. Wonderful tips and tricks, easy substitutes, and a plan to help you feel better using food.
