Batman: Prelude to the Wedding #4

Batman: Prelude to the Wedding: Red Hood vs. Anarky #1

Rate this book
Red Hood has always been the one standing slightly apart from the rest of the Bat crew. Some see him as the Robin gone bad-which is exactly the kind of thing someone like Anarky can exploit. Now Red Hood is running security at Catwoman’s bachelorette party-and if Anarky can crash it, that could be the final straw for Jason Todd!

I liked seeing Red Hood, but I didn’t really like what was done with Anarchy’s character. I think his message is actually really interesting and the way this issue just kinda turned him into a pseudo-anti feminist/white liberal looser was disappointing.

A couple of the things Catwoman said in this made me think she was having second thoughts. Whilst the sheer amount of build up makes me think there's a chance they might, I really don't think DC are going to go through with this wedding. I know I'm saying that having read relatively little of the material, but think of it like this: how difficult will it be to write a relationship where Batman and Catwoman are married, but not Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle? (Also, how does that even work legally? You know what, we're not going to think about it too hard...)

Anyway, Red Hood had some amusing one-liners but I wasn't overstruck by this issue. Anarky was clearly just looking to create chaos, but I don't feel like I understand anything about him beyond that. It also felt really oddly paced at times, like when we cut from Anarky telling Red Hood about his daddy issues to Red Hood dumping him at the station.

Strong ending, but uses some cheats to get there, I’d say. This Lonnie is a bit too emotionally frank to be believable.

I think we’re on the last round of ‘prelude to the wedding’ issues, and I’m pretty grateful for that. That isn’t to say I haven’t enjoyed some of them, because I did. More I just want to get to the point. Some of these have been interesting, while others felt contrived. This one was more of the latter than the former, for me at least.

I wasn't wowed, but it didn't bore me, either. The art was decent and there were a few genuine moments of emotions/feels, so good enough for me.

Good one. A bit light in the storyline, but still a entertaining comic book!

This is probably the most ok of these so far. Like, I don't really care about Jason Todd but I've always been interested in Anarky though I've seen very little of his appearances and this is a passable portrayal of both of them. There's a couple funny moments with Jason and Bruce but other then that not a lot stands out, it just kinda feels like buying time until the Joker/Harley story which is next.

Fun little adventure with my favorite member of the Bat-family helping out prior to issue 50 of Batman.

I love me some Red Hood. I’m glad I voted to kill off Jason Todd all those years ago, because the character that was resurrected in his place is so much better!
