Nothing Lasts Forever By: Jaxson Kidman, London Casey Narrated by: Ryan West, Kirsten Leigh Dnf after 2 chapters Overall 1 out of 5 stars Performance 5 out of 5 stars Story 1 out of 5 stars Reviewed: 02-05-20
Couldn’t get into the story and that says much since Ryan West could read the phone book to me and I’d like it. It was all telling and no showing and the dialogue tags were ‘he said’, ‘she said’, ‘he said’.
This one didn’t really float my boat. I didn’t like not knowing what happened between them up til like 60% through. I didn’t like Shelby very much. Axel would and did anything for her and all she did was be mean and push him away. A very ungrateful person. She really upset me. I guess that is why I really didn’t like this addition. If there is more I hope it is better.
Nothing Lasts Forever is Axel's story if you have read any of the books from St. Skin Series you know Axel. For those of you that aren't aware of the alpha bad boy that tattoos, drinks and takes one night stands to hide his pain. St Skin is his church, booze is his crutch and women to avoid the loneliness. Axe loves one woman Shelby his Ex wife. Axel and Shelby will meet again and this time nothing will stop Axel from making her his again... Their relationship was rocky but the love they have for eachother lasts a lifetime.
Nothing Lasts Forever is a second chance novel about two people finding eachother again. Pain, laughter, forgiveness and love will pull these two back together. Kidman/Casey will bring the emotions out of you with Axel and Shelby's story. I loved Shelby, her strength, her hurt, her love, she let Axel go the first time but he won't let her go this time...Second Chances only come once in a lifetime..so hold on and dip into Nothing Lasts Forever and enjoy the ride. Happy Reading!!!
Emotion filled story which was more than I could ever have expected
Nothing Lasts Forever is the latest in the St Skin novels. As much as I love Kidman and Casey's work, I didn't know what to expect from Shelby and Axel's second chance romance after divorce. Yet again, their amazing talent and writing style had me hooked and so invested in this story that I could not put this book down before reaching the end. Shelby and Axel were utterly in love but life can have a way of throwing challenges in your way that can make or break you as a couple. Yet again both authors give us a real, heart-wrenching story that also contains humour, hot scenes and a chosen family bond that is the underlying link between all the books in this series. I loved, loved, loved this story and would highly recommend it.
I struggled before writing this review. I've read many of the St. Skin books, have absolutely loved some, and can generally give them 5 stars easily. This book wasn't one that came to me that way.
Simply put, I didn't connect with Shelby. At all. She was so caught up in hiding from her emotions, she missed how selfish and cruel she was to Axel. That and their total lack of communication just didn't work for me.
That said, the ending redeemed the book for me somewhat. There was no magical fix; there was real life that many couples face. Axel and Shelby worked through it, loved each other, anyway, and that totally worked. Kudos to the authors for not selling out.
Amazing!! Axel lives for booze and fights and anything else to help dull the pain of losing the one woman whom he loved in divorce. Only in this case Axel has a second chance at love with Shelby. Prepare yourself for yet again another great book done by Jaxson Kidman with boys of St. Skin. Kidman runs you through the gauntlet of emotions all the while keeping you on the edge of your seat. This is a book you do not want to miss.
This one is a story that you think you know what happened but, it keeps you guessing until the end. This is a ride of ups and downs, pasts and present, pain and heartbreak, and maybe a second chance. Check your emotions this is Axel's story and he is always ready for whiskey and a fight.
Wow. Another great book in the St. Skin world. Always knew Axel's story would be intense and I was right. This one will stay with you for a long time after that last word is read. Great job Jaxson.
I hate these two characters so much. They are giving me whiplash right now. I wanna take Shelby and just tell her to fucking sort her shit out. I will take Axel off her hands. I DNFd at 55% and I can see the big reveal approaching with the subtlety of a panda dressed in a zebra-print poncho.
This was a hard and torturous read. The push and pull was too much and too repetitive...The main characters got divorced and 70% in the book and we still have no clue as to what happened and what caused it. The h was selfish and very defensive and thought she did no wrong even though she kept her thoughts to herself and don’t communicate. The H was damn if he do and damn if he don’t. The lead up to what was wrong with the h was such a damn let down. I rolled my eyes the entire time with frustration.
Two self destructive people who cannot seem to live their lives sensibly and seem surrounded by other friends on downward spirals. The male is a drunk who has numerous one night stands. She is a weak woman who could not be honest about what she wanted and kept pushing him away instead of asking for help. Yes they suffered something sad but they were not a good support system for each other. I didn’t care for either of them and I felt totally down after reading this and wish I had not done so.
Enjoying this series which is a bit darker as you get Into it. Liked axel but she’s just annoyed me no end. Figured out they’d lost a baby but OMG how drawn out did their rekindled relationship need to be. Plus so many mixed messages. That said I enjoyed the catchup with others from previous books.
Jaxson Kidman does it again, delivering an emotional second chance, friends to lovers romance. Kidman’s two flawed characters take us on a road that is strewn with heartache. How can two people who still love each other end up in divorce? The situation is inexplicable but the revelation will break your heart.
In the previous St. Skin book, Our Last Road, Axel is an interesting character who shows up at the tattoo shop all brooding and moody. In his story, we get a glimpse of the turmoil his life has been since the break up of his marriage to Shelby. Their paths cross again when Shelby’s sister is mourning the loss of her boyfriend. Shelby and Axel are aware of the chemistry between them but don’t think any relationship together will end up well. But Axel is determined not to let Shelby go this time. His life of one night stands and booze to hide his pain needs to stop. He’s not about to let Shelby get away again.
Once you find out about what happened, the puzzle pieces come together and you just want to root for Axel and Shelby who clearly still have strong feelings and never stopped loving each other. Kidman exposes such raw emotions. It is a well-written romance about loss, second chances, and forgiveness with characters who have an intense connection. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Jaxson and London never fail to break my heart with their combination of gritty, emotional stories of love and loss and this one is particularly heartfelt because it's a second chance love, a true second chance for a once married couple who are now back in each other's lives thanks to a loss in her sister's life.
Shelby once (still) loved Axel, her ex-husband. The tall, tatted up beast of a man who broke her heart. When her sister suffers a loss and she keeps asking for Axel, Shelby knows she has to call him for Stacy, as Axel had been like a brother to her throughout Shelby and Axel's relationship. She thinks she's over Axel, thinks her life is fine without him, but once he comes back, she knows she never stopped loving him. Can she let him in again? Let the man who broke her back into her life and give him the chance to do it all over again? Or is the thought of it too much for her to bear?
Even if you've never read any of the St. Skin stories, you should most definitely pick this one up. It's powerful. It's super emotional. It's heartbreaking and heartfelt. And it's a true second chance for two people who didn't even realize they needed or wanted one. Kudos to Jaxson and London for another beautiful, raw, heartbreaking St. Skin story!
Nothing Last Forever is the next amazing installment in the St. Skin series. This is about Axel and Shelby’s emotional journey of love, love lost and love rekindled. From the first page to the last I was captivated by this story that pulls at your heart and reaches to your soul.
Ah, young love. You think it’s perfect and nothing will ever come and pop the blissful bubble you are in. Unfortunately, life throws unexpected curveballs at us.
Axel and Shelby fell in love and married young then it fell apart with a divorce. Time goes on each living their lives, then an even throws them back in each others lives. When they are together again it is like a rush, and they both know they never stopped loving each other. Will these to be able to get past the pain and hurt of the past to get a second chance? Well read and see!
One thing I love about this duo’s writing is how I can emotionally connect with the characters. The stories are real and raw and on some level everyone can connect. When you’re able to connect you are able to live the story more. That is what these writers do every single time, and you are left breathless. I can’t recommend this five star read and the whole series enough. Read less
This book has all the feels angst, frustration, friendship, family, lust and love. The characters are genuine and relatable. It’s a powerful book of learning to trust ourselves and our hearts and to stop listening to our heads.
Axle has fallen into a never ending cycle of work, drinking and taking home one night stands. He’s living a lie and just trying to protect his heart. Then the last person he expects to get a phone call from is on his phone screen. Stacy is heartbroken and wants to talk to Axle, Shelby contacts him against her better judgement. He is the last person she wants to see, however he drops everything just to be there for her. She may be his ex-wife but he is still in love with her and seeing her after all this time knocks him for six. Shelby is nervous and is hot and flustered being in the same room as Axle. They have so much to discuss but neither of them want to because they know it will lead to arguments. Why is it that when women need a shoulder to cry on or that person to lean on we push them away? Why is it that men decide this is the only time that they’ll listen to us and leave?
A second chance at love with no regret this time. When you’re meant to be with someone fate has a way of leading you back to them. When you get that rare chance, don’t toss it away, grab a hold of it and do whatever is possible to be together.
Axel and Shelby, love at a young age, they knew what the rest of the world thought they weren’t ready for. They let things come between them and lost each other along the way. Fate stepped in and took over, the love, passion and fire that is Axel’s love is what burns and soon finds its way home, back to Shel, his life, the very air he needs to breathe again. Shelby needs Axel just as much, she’s just too stubborn to let others help her when she needs it. Life is hard on your own but when you have a man like Axel by your side don’t be foolish and let that slip through your hands.
The St. Skin family is there for you always but the love and devotion of a good man is hard to find.
Reviews for me are usually easy, usually. But then again up until now I hadn't read Axel and Shelby's story. Their story is complicated. And painful. And messy. And so many things rolled into one story. Rolled into two lives. That somehow got lost along the way. Second chances are sometimes what we want/need/desire at different times in our lives. I'm glad to finally read their story. To know they get get their second chance. They earned it. But if your looking for a simple, run of the mill, you know how it's gonna play out way before the ending, then ... this isn't for you. There's more than you imagine. More than what you think. Is it worthy of a read, yes. Is it worthy of a second read, yes to that too. Is it worthy of the title my favorite ... I'll let ya know after I finish reading it ... Ya know, for the hundredth time!
Just WOW!! This is a second chance romance on steroids. Your heart will ache for what Axel and Shelby lost, what they went through and what they still go through. Though years have passed, deep down they still love each other. When Shelby's sister loses the love of her life, Shelby reaches out to Axel, just for her sister she tells herself. That call opens up years of guilt, loss, denial and the true feelings they have for each other. Their road is rocky one, and when you find out what drove them apart I dare you to keep a dry eye! I think this is their best book yet! Axel and Shelby's tale is so full of drama, passion and love and it's such a well written story I couldn't help but get sucked in...I absolutely loved it! This book speaks to everyone and on some level everyone will relate to some part of it. Just get it now!!!
Good lord. This book punched me in all the feelings. It was so much more than the blurb. The two perspectives of how they were feeling gave such amazing insight of how one handles the loss of something and never really heals. Just as a piece of paper truly doesn't need to show if you are 100% committed it also doesn't mean that it means that those feelings are over. There is a tendency to make that piece of paper mean more than it does.
Axel and Shelby. Good lord. My heart hurt for them. Even though they were divorced their hearts hadn't gotten that memo about a dissolution of marriage and time to move on. They still loved unconditionally and always. Their love was like a gypsy; wild and free.
This is the second book about St Skin. I loved the first too. I think I need to go catch up on the rest. I'm invested in this "family" now.
It seems like I've waited forever for Axel's book, and I just discovered the St. Skin world last year. I loved Axel and Shelby's story and I think that it might just be my favorite St. Skin book yet. Axel is broken so he hides his pain behind booze and random one night stands. Without giving away spoilers I could really relate to the problems that Shelby was going through. Jaxson and London wrote another phenomenal master piece. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a good second chance romance. If you like a book where a ex-husband and ex-wife have a chance to fix their past mistakes, then this book is definitely for you! I cannot wait for Prick and Tate's books. 5 stars!!!!!!
OMG, a gut wrenching story with so much hurt and heartache for Axel and Shelby, it has led to their divorce. Love, marriage, loss, then divorce, if their story doesn't bring tears to the reader, then I am not sure what will. It was so obvious how they each felt about each other throughout the story, but getting past those obstacles was more than they could handle. Nothing is more heartbreaking than a couple that love each other desperately, but cannot seem to find their way past their own pain. With so much emotion going into this story, and a HEA that I wasn't sure would happen, I recommend "Nothing Lasts Forever", you will be glad you picked this one up. I would like to thank the authors for gifting me this great read. My opinion is my own. This is mine. 5 Stars!
Can we really ever get a "do-over"? Do we want one?
Axel and Shelby fell in love when they were young. Young, foolish and in love. But life happens. Mistakes are made. Feelings hurt. And sometimes we do things we can't take back. We simply walk away.
Axel and Shelby finally called it quits but neither really understood why. But papers were signed, it was over. But an unavoidable encounter raises questions of why, what if, maybe and what might have been. Can they get a do-over?
These were such strong characters. You could relate to both their hurt and regrets. The storyline left me with sadness, hurt for the couple's experiences and a bit of hope for what their future might hold.
Another emotionally heartbreaking story from these two fantastic authors! Nothing lasts Forever will tear at your heart and frustrate you with the feelings you have for these two. Shelby and Axel had a life before heartbreak and split. Leaving them both going through the motions of life but not living. It isn’t until Shelby reaches out to Axel for her sister in a desperate attempt to help her sister through her grief. But when it comes to facing each other, the past is to real and sets the course for the hope of a HEA. Another great story from the boys of St Skin. All the favourites are included through the story and it’s great to catch up with the crew!!
I was skeptical at first for this book to release, I'm not typically a big fan of "second chance" books but I've loved everything of Jaxson Kidman's, so I had check it out. I am so glad I did!! This story was so raw and heartbreakingly real... I don't really even have the words right yet-- I'm still recovering! This one has it all- laughs, tears, grit, and yes some totally hot sex!! Axel and Shelby... they don't do normal, they struggle and fight like hell to survive what life has thrown them. Every piece of this story was perfect- all the way to the end. I haven't felt this emotional after a book since.... well, since Dear Everly. Loved it- 5 perfect stars!!
Wow what a story, I was taken on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride with this book. But I loved every part of it. The emotions that the characters go through I felt each and everyone of them. Surprises await you throughout the book and I have to tell you some are big and some are small, some you will see coming and others you won't, but you will love each and everyone. I was pulled in to this story right from the start, loving every word I read. I have read every book that has been written for the St Skins family and I have to say this is in my top 3 favourites.
I honestly wanted to give this a lower review because I was angry. Things didn’t happen the way I wanted them to and I was butthurt. But the truth is, in all its ugliness, this is a beautiful story. I always knew there had to be a deep hurt in him to make Axel the way he was, and I’m so glad he was able to get past that. I’m glad that Shelby was able to do that with him. I’ve loved the St Skin series and that includes this one. So while I wanted to give it a lower rating because it wasn’t the perfect fairytale, I gave it the rating it deserved as a fantastic novel.
A couple who have divorced and reconnect a few years down the line. Very emotionally changed this one, both unhappy and wallowing in guilt over the break up of their marriage, until a tragedy brings them back together. To be honest axel was just perfectly described and written. Shel needed a kick up the back end. The term cutting of your nose to spite your face. Well written with good characters and dialogue, very simple storyline with sad moments. There was something missing for me but I can't say what because it had drama, romance, sadness and joy. It just didn't grab me. It is however beautiful and endearing and worth a look.
