Senator Blake Buchanan has set his sights on the governor’s office, but as he figuratively battles his opponent, Grace Striker, for the Republican nomination, he becomes immersed in more than just politics. The underdog in the race, Blake finds himself at odds not just with his rival but with his own emotions when he encounters Cat Alexander, an old flame from his past who awakens within him something that has been missing in his life, and he is not alone in his feelings. As the two try their best to navigate their new relationship, moments transpire throughout that put everything that Senator Blake Buchanan loves at risk. Will he choose to save the ones he holds so dear from the truth that could bring devastation into their lives, or will he risk anything and everything to get what he wants in the end?

The Election is a fictional ride into a political world that isn’t written about by many authors. Reading the dialogue is akin to sitting in a room with surround sound--you can feel the authenticity as though it is hanging in the air, brushing against your face. The bits of factual political moments in history were also enlightening and bring us back to our own history. One of those specific instances used in the book being, “Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy,” a response made by Senator Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle. The speeches given within feel as though they could be happening somewhere right now. One such quote from the book is, “You, and like-minded Americans everywhere, are the true guardians of liberty.” That kind of writing jumps off the page at the reader, and that’s coming from the antagonist’s mouth. The author doesn’t go into long descriptions of background or environment, but what there is is direct, and you can still picture where you are supposed to be. The novel is dialogue-driven and we find ourselves sitting behind the wheel of a handful of colorful characters in the book, which makes for an interesting ride and will keep readers riveted to their chairs. Romantic scenes within are done tastefully, giving just enough to satisfy the reader. You will not want to stop reading. For those who think politics is boring, it will instill a curiosity for that world that you never thought you would ever feel. This is a nesting doll of intrigue, romance, and politics that will affect anyone who happens across it.

Whoa! In the light of current election events, The Election is a timely
(and mind blowing) novel containing fictionalized behind the curtain dealings of two people running for Texas governor. It is scary because these kind of underhanded happenings occur and are all too prevalent in the trek to office.
The novel traces the election road by Senator Blake Buchanan and Texas Attorney General General Striker. Blake is a fine man of character who slides into a short affair with a former girlfriend. Striker is a brash, media loving, almost totally unprincipled candidate with campaign managers willing to go deep to get any dirt on Blake. The dirt they find isn’t the dirt Blake knows and things spiral away from winning.

The Election by Landon Wallace is the story of State Senator Blake Buchanan and his long-shot run for the governorship of Texas against Grace Striker, the state’s sexy, conservative attorney general whose ambition may be the only thing more striking than her 20-point lead in the polls. Complicating Buchanan’s primary run is Cat Alexander, his married former lover for whom he still has powerful feelings, and his troubled wife, Faith, who is embroiled in a personal battle of her own. As the two campaigns attempt to unearth the secrets of their opponents and maneuver for an advantage, the election speeds to a surprising conclusion and opens the door to even more tantalizing possibilities.

In The Election, author Landon Wallace has written a fascinating tale about the sordid world of politics, and a surprising story about the sacrifices people consider for love, family, and career. The Election is a fast-paced descent into the inner workings of political campaigns, fundraising, and opposition research; a perfectly frenzied backdrop for the poignant and emotional journeys of the strong and well-written primary characters. Each of them—Blake, Grace, Cat, and Faith—have strong story arcs of their own, each of them well-told and interesting. The Election’s love story and tangled affairs add to its considerable appeal. The romantic story between the former lovers, Blake and Cat, was palpable and gripping, but no more so than the emotions involved in all the relationships revealed in the story. The Election is a fast, engaging read and it is highly recommended.

Picking up "The Election" marked the end of my self-imposed hiatus from reading for pleasure, and the beginning of a love affair with political fiction. An intoxicating tale of intrigue stemming from the all-too-human foibles of political life, this book is a triple threat of intelligence, passion and suspense. Landon Wallace has me hooked. Looking forward to his next release!

The Election is a great political fiction read, you do not need to be a follower of politics to enjoy this book.
State Senator Blake Buchanan is putting himself forward to be the Republican party's candidate to be elected as State Governor of Texas. Add to this an unworthy female opponent capable of all the dirty tricks in the book, family dynamics, love and drama and you've a sure winner.
As much as this is a fictional story one can't help but compare it to the election campaigns of Trump/Clinton, but at least here we have one politician who is likeable and actually has a conscious.
An absorbing enjoyable story, I eagerly look forward to the follow up.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly

Interesting and topical to our times as elections are run and underhanded deals are made. It is a fight to the end, trying to win.

In the midst of dreams and undeterred ambition, Blake Buchanan must decide what kind of a man he is. He must decide what his priorities are and what path he should follow. Living in a troubled marriage, with two innocent daughters to protect, his enemies are out for blood regardless of the damage they might bring to his family.

Add to that the woman he walked away from 20 years ago walks back into his life. The emotions he thought had long seized to exist once again claim him. There are choices to make while he sees his dream of becoming the Governor of Texas in peril.

One thing... I would have wanted to read a more defined ending. I guess it is like life itself. Nothing is for sure and you need to work for your own happy ending if that is at all possible.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the publisher for sharing a copy with me.

A topical premise considering all the political events we are currently embroiled in. I don’t know crazy amounts about American politics and was interest to discover more, which I did but in a very Hollywood/ CNN prism which may be accurate to real life but is unsettling and presents unlikable characters, perhaps how I feel when watching Fox News! Not necessarily my go to genre but I’m sure this will be successful.

I use to really enjoy politics and studied elections so I was interested in reading this book. The story centers on the governor's election in the state of Texas. The up and coming State Senator Blake Buchanan is taking on the state Attorney General Grace Striker, otherwise known as The General. One of the lines I loved was that Davey Crocket had a better shot at the Alamo than Buchanan had to beat Striker. As you can imagine this election brings out the worse in both sides. There's dirty politics, affairs, and loads of private investigators. I enjoyed the book for the most part but found the ending a little anticlimactic after everything the two candidates go through in the course of the book. There are a few twist and turns and some things do not turn out as you might expect. I don't want to give away the ending so you will have to read for yourself.
