This was a GoodReads giveaway win.
I think book would be okay for readers 12+
This book was quite monotonous when trying to make the deal with Innana and lasted for a few chapters, so that is my biggest complaint.
Paris is not what most demons are written to look like, even at night, so that's a nice a nice change. It has a pretty clear plot with an ending that leaves an opening for a book two. The whole bargaining soles thing is a bit cliche, but all in all, it was a good read.

I recieved an advanced copy as part of a giveaway win. It took me a few weeks to get around to reading this book, and I wish I hadn't waited so long! Fans of paranormal/urban fantasy authors like Kim Harrison and Laurell Hamilton may like this book. It can seem a bit slow at times as we go about the main characters days, but the pace picks up pretty quickly. I wish this book had more background on the demons and hunters, and just more background/detail to everything in general. The ending was just too abrupt and left me needing more. Despite the "slow" parts, this book was very quick reading and kept me coming back to figure out what was going to happen next. As this book says it's part of The Fallen Series, I'm looking forward to more of this story!

I really enjoyed this book but it would have been so much better if a "certain character" didn't die at the end. I liked that none of the characters were good guys. I mean, we're messing with demons and people without a conscience. Props to the author for still managing to make me like Paris. Trigger warning for rape and abuse. I hope "certain character" can come back because I ship them with Paris

I won this book thru a Goodreads giveaway...though I kind of wish I hadn't. I always hate being the first one to give a book a lower rating, but I just could not get into this. It sounded like it would be a good read but I was so damn bored for most of it. I didn't expect demons to all be practically like lawyers, and I didn't like that.

Zoe was such a flat character to me. I tired of being told repeatedly that she wasn't normal and having to keep wondering why. She killed without thought or regret, was a addicted to oxy and could only look forward to her next high, and she acted like such a bitch all the time. I really did not like her. The mystery of her past kept me strung along and I will say that I didn't really see that coming. When we finally learn it, it was actually pretty interesting. Though I do wish some things about it were explained a lot more.

Paris is a demon. Though he doesn't act very demon like in my opinion. See, the demons here all get their strength and power thru human souls that they claim thru making contracts with them. The way they conducted themselves to the suits they all wore, just screamed lawyer to me. Not demon. At all. And there were just so many rules! Anyway. Paris is one of the most powerful demons both in rank and in souls. He's a real stickler for all those rules, but he's also not as strong as people think he is. He's good at getting contracts signed and he enjoys it. So when an order from their regent comes down that he's supposed to mate the regent's daughter, he's livid and determined to get out of it.

When Paris first encounters Zoe's soul he knows immediately that she's special. And he just has to have her soul. Unfortunately for him, Zoe is a hard one to get to sign a contract. What she wants, he can't give her and she won't give up her soul for anything less. Paris becomes almost obsessed with Zoe. Not just her soul, but for some reason he wants her. All of his actions from the moment he meets her end up setting into motion an ending that I never saw coming. Was it good enough to get me to read the next book though? Probably not.
