Fireman Maverick Bridges doesn’t do complicated. All he needs are his firehouse brothers and an ice-cold beer after a long day. His life is turned upside down the moment he unknowingly sets his sights on the one woman he shouldn’t want.
Sofia Blanco is back in her hometown after a decade abroad. Her first night, she meets a man whose dark blue eyes promise the ability to deliver on a dirty and sinful night. A night that’s ruined when they find out she’s his best friend’s little sister and temporary housemate.
An instant attraction that is hard to resist quickly turns into steamy showers and Nutella-licking fun. But what happens when casual fun turns into more? Will they be able to walk through fire for one another?
NOTE: A shorter version of this story was previously published in the BURN ME Anthology. This is the extended and complete story that will make your heart burst into flames. Grab an ice-cold drink and a fan; it’s about to get hot in here!
His apparently vast sexual history is mentioned WAY too much for me. Honestly, I started picturing him as a walking STD, even though we're told he's clean and has never gone bare except with heroine.
Loved this. This was such an awesome story. I loved Princess and Maverick. She gave him a run for his money and he pushed her limits. Will her brother be getting a story? This story grabs you right from the get go and won't let you put it down.
*ebook generously provided by the author and I'm leaving an honest review*
This is my first book by this author but certainly won't be the last. I can't wait to catch up on this author's book. The writing just flowed and had me engrossed to the story from start to finish. The storyline was intriguing and pulled me into the story from the first page. I wish it was longer lol – BUT ONLY because I loved the characters and couple and never wanted it to end.
Yes, it was an insta-love but honestly I didn't mind because the author knew how to develop, create the storyline and make you fall in love with her words and plot. It was quick and enjoyable read which I devoured in one sitting.
Maverick is a firefighter. He is also tired of one night stands. Mav wants something real even though he quite isn't ready to admit it. Until Sofia.
Sofia left this small town as a teenager to finish a degree and make something of herself. But now returned home. All her life she believed she is in the way of her brother and mother. She wants to prove her brother she can take care of herself and that she is a grown up woman.
Maverick and Sofia are just incredible. From the moment they met there were sparks and undeniable attraction. This was brother’s best friend trope and it was kind of forbidden romance. They lit up the pages when they were together. I love that Sofia could keep up with Mav and call him on his bullshit. Even when I got frustrated with them I loved them and was yelling at my kindle to just get together already. I love how they were drawn to each other, that connection they shared. They couldn’t stay away from each other even though they wanted it to. Mav knew she was his and she was the one, he just needed a little push and to man up to finally realize that they were meant to be.
I definitely will read Mayra’s books. I need this series! Gah! I’m so hooked. Highly recommend it.
I loved Burning Bridges by Mayra Stratham. Nothing better than reading a brothers best friend romance, and this one hit it out of the park. Sofia is Gabe's sister and Maverick is his best friend. They work at the fire station together and have been best friends for a long time. Sofia has been traveling abroad and hasnt been around since Mav moved to town. She has decided to come home and is supposed to meet Gabe at the local bar and while she's waiting on him to show up, she gets approached by Mav, who seen her as soon as she walked in and was instantly smitten with her. Of course, neither one of them knew who each other were so they decided they would make the best out of their one night and move on. Until Gabe shows up and ruins their plans. Once they figure out who each other is, they both know that absolutely nothing can happen between them because of Gabe. Unfortunately, Gabe forgot to tell Mav that Sofia would be staying at their house for a couple of weeks until her apartment got ready. And this is where the struggle begins. They both lust after each other but refuse to give in because Mav doesnt want to hurt his best friend and Sofia doesnt want to disappoint her older brother. Will they be able to come to terms with their feelings? And if they do, how will they be able to tell Gabe without destroying all of their relationships with him? You have to read this to find out. Excellent book, wonderful characters. Can't wait to read the other books in this series.
Maverick has been a free agent for so long, he isn't sure that there is any other way to be. All he knows is that he isn't happy with the way things are. Then into the bar comes the most perfect woman. He can't look away, the draw to her is so strong that he doesn't even want to fight it. Unfortunately, fate has a sense of humor. As the perfect woman turns out to be his best friend Gabe's little sister Sofia. She might as well have barbed wire around her, she is totally off limits. But she feels this attraction too. She doesn't see why her and Maverick have to stay away from each other. What do you do when the one person who was made for you is also the last one you should touch?
This is only the second book that I have read by the talented Mayra Statham. I hope that I can be coherent in my review as I am now a fan for life! Burning Bridges was awesome, Sofia and Maverick immediately click. The attraction between them is palpable, the heat and passion are off the chart. Ms Statham took the trope of best friend's little sister and made it fresh. These characters are grown ups and they act like it. I didn't put this book down for a second and read it in one sitting! I cannot wait to get my hands on more by the incredible Mayra Statham!
Burning bridges is book one in the beech grove series. This story is short, fast paced and a nice read. I read this book in one sitting and liked it. I liked Sofia. She loved her brother but he did treat her like a child. She wanted to prove to him that she was a grown woman and could handle stuff herself. What she didn’t expect is to fall in love with his best friend. I liked Maverick but he irritated me at times. I understood that he didn’t want to lose his friendship with Gabe but he had so many hot and cold moments. It was a push and pull effect. He’d push Sofia away and then he would pull her close and want her. It got to the point that although I liked them together, I kind of wanted Sofia to walk away. She deserved better than to be Maverick’s dirty secret. That being said, the chemistry between them was clear to see and I liked them together. I liked Gabe’s reaction when the truth finally came out and the talk he had with Sofia. I liked that Sofia finally got her happily ever after. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is a nice read. I cannot wait for more from this series.
Maverick & Sofia have sizzling chemistry! Sofia and Maverick have what they think is a chance meeting in a bar. She has just returned home from studying aboard and is now back in her hometown to take a teaching job. She is not looking for a relationship but Mr. Tall, Broad and devilishly handsome may be just what she needs. Mav is the quintessential player until he meets the sassy little minx Sofia and she knocks him off his game. The attraction is immediate, the banter sexually charged and then she becomes brazen and suggests no names, complete anonymity. Well that idea is blown out of the water when her older brother walks in and wrecks the whole thing. The two find out immediately that Maverick is her brothers best friend, they are roommates and oh yes she will be staying with them until her apartment is ready!! I absolutely loved Mav and Sofia they are amazing together such a great story! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
3.25 stars. Quick review because I read this a few weeks back-
This book was only okay for me. This is the story of Maverick and Sofia. Sofia is the younger sister of Maverick's best friend. She moves home after living overseas and has immediate chemistry with Maverick, but he considers her off-limits. They spend most of the book going back and forth, with Maverick pushing her away most of the time until they finally decide to be together anyway.
I thought the story was pretty good, but was too long feeling and drawn out with unnecessary drama. I liked it in general and felt the connection and love between the couple, but they fought a lot and there was too much wishy washy back and forth for no real reason. Maverick was supposed to be 35, but acted more like 21. Still, it wasn't a bad book and it kept me entertained, even if it was a bit frustrating.
When Maverick walked into a bar to meet his best friends kid sister Sofia, he never expected for her to look the she does and be his wildest dreams come true.
The attraction between them in immediate and undeniable!
Maverick wrestles with himself that he’s falling for Sofia but also that she is his best friends baby sister, who he’s scared to tell.
I understand that it is a small age gap, forbidden love, best friends sister. But i wish his sexual history and the fast that it is his best friends sister wasn’t brought up as much as it was. But other than that i enjoyed this read and jumped out of my seat at least once!
~The only woman who is off limits to me, and she’s f*cking perfect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥 Pages=207 This is book 1 of 8 in the Beech Grove Series ........................................................
When Mav's best friend asks him to look out for his little sister who is returning from overseas, he has no idea that the hot chick he's hitting on at the bar (and ready to take home for a wild night), is little sister Sofia.
Sofia left as a teenager, and isn't so little anymore. Except her older brother can't seem to grasp that fact. He's overprotective, overbearing, and has warned his friend Mav that Sofia is off limits.
The problem - is that Sofia and Mav can't keep their eyes, or their hands, off each other!
This was a fun, steamy book with the whole forbidden friend's sister trope, but was fresh and interesting. And Mav was a hot firefighter! Come on! Short but packs a powerful punch!

Maverick doesn’t want anything to muddle up his casual, not-looking-for-forever lifestyle...until he meets a new woman at the local pub. Unfortunately for him, this woman who could be his everything is his best friend’s little sister, Sofia. Sofia, on the other hand, has spent the last decade believing that she’s in the way of her brother and mother, and has tried her hardest to live a life without being a burden to either of them. These two fight the pull of their attraction, then try to hide their relationship, until Sofia makes clear that she’s unwilling to be anyone’s dirty little secret. These two finally find their way to each other and find that they weren’t fooling anyone in the end. Now, I need to know who ties Sofia’s brother down next!
Okay Statham has out done herself with Burning Bridges. This story is so Hot... my kindle got hot. Maverick and Sofia male/female leads, from the minute they meet to the last page the chemistry between this couple was explosive. This takes place in Statham's Beech Grove, Mav is a fire fighter and best friends with Sofia's brother Gabe. Lets just big brother Gabe treats Sofie like she is a teenager, so Mav and Sofie decide that they need to keep what they are doing a secret. Statham keeps things interesting. This story was so much fun to read, so if you haven't read Burning Bridges I suggest you get yourself a copy you will not be disappointed!! Happy Reading!!
Whew!! This is HOT HOT HOT!! Maverick and Sophia are combustible! Mav and Sophia meet, but it turns out, he's her older brothers best friend, so all of a sudden, they're forbidden. And y'all know what happened with the forbidden fruit, right? Stolen tastes lead to more.....
I loved seeing how Sophia stuck up for herself and knew she deserves something real and not hidden.
I loved seeing how Maverick finally pulled his head out of his butt concerning Sophia. He couldn't stop chasing her, knew she was his, but sure needed to man up about some things!
If you like an easy-one-sitting read with smoldering flames that quickly build to an inferno, you don't want to miss this!
Hi my name is Sophie and after years abroad for school I'm returning home. It's not that I don't want to be home, but I don't want to be in the way and my brother still thinks I'm twelve! I'm going to treat myself to a hot one night stand before settling in. Oh yeah, and the reason for this story is the man I set my sights on is my brother's best friend!
Loved these two together. Even when I got frustrated with Maverick I loved him. I also loved that Sophia was not a door mat. Can Sophia trust her feelings? Is Maverick more than a hit-it-and-quit kind of guy? A great read on my rainy Saturday afternoon.
Mayra Statham did a great job on Burning Bridges. The story was well written with a great plot. Sofia and Maverick were great characters. Mav didn't know at the time of meeting Sofia that she was his best friend's sister. Their connection was strong, it was hard for them to keep their hands to themselves. The chemistry between them was off the charts sexy. I enjoyed their journey. Mav and Sofia were made for each other. This was a great story. I enjoyed it. Thank you, Mayra Statham. Great work :)
So hot! Maverick was playing with fire when he met Sofia, and found out she was his best friend's sister. You would think that would be enough to make her off limits, but Mav just can't stay away. It's only a matter of time before Sofia's brother, Gabe finds out. When you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. I don't think Mav and Sofia care if they get burned though. Their chemistry was so hot! I like that there is always plenty of steam in Mayra Statham's books! Looking forward to the next book!
I read this book when it came out in the Burn Me Anthology so I was excited about seeing the story taken one step further. This author does a great job of giving us more. More about who they were. More about their hiding in plain sight. More of the heat and chemistry these two have. A great story filled with passion and sneaking around because not only were either of them ready for a relationship but also neither wanted to go toe to toe with her brother. Loads of fun these two are out for a wild ride.
I have to start with how much I really loved Sofia and Maverick. I love how they were drawn to each other, that connection they shared. She had a bit of a spice to her that I enjoyed. It's steamy, it's sweet and I hope to get Gabe's story as well! My only issue, and it's more a personal thing, is that we go from Sofia in first person to Maverick in third. I don't mind either one but I prefer it be the same throughout the book. I'm assuming it's intentional, it just throws me off a bit. Otherwise it's a great read with characters I really liked.
5 stars all around!!! What a GREAT read. Loved Maverick but Sofia stole the show for me. She is exactly how I like the Heroine to be in a book. She doesn’t take crap from anyone but still has a soft side that shows up and breaks your heart. You Go Girl!! And don’t even get me started on Mav. I can’t believe I’m going to say this about the Hero but he acted more like a girl than Sofi. She actually said it best “The King of Mixed Signals” I think she meant queen cause how many times did he regret what they were doing? OMG... A lot, let me tell you. I kept rolling my eyes and shouting “again with the regrets, seriously?” Loved it. Loved it all.
Burning bridges by Mayra Statham. And wow 5 stars. I just love Mayras writing but I think this novella is my new favourite. It hit all the right spots for me. Forbidden romance of best friends little sister, elements of Lust at first sight on both Mavericks and Sophia's behalves. It was funny, sexy, charming and a great little read. I'm so glad that their story is not over, I can't wait to continue their journey.
Omg I don’t know where to start. Mayra hit it out of the park with this one, a total grand slam. The chemistry between Sofia and Mav was amazing and off the charts. I do dn’t want this story to ever end. And funny? I laughed so hard at many things. This is a perfect 10. Mayra, you rocked it once again. Don’t pass this by, as always with Mayra books, a must read!
Maverick and Sofi are both great characters. They are both strong. This is one of those tantalizing brother's best friend and sister romance. These two are a couple of my all time favorite characters. They are just so cute together. Once I started this book I didn't want to put it down. I just had to know what happened next. I love this cover and it fits the characters.
So much heat! Not just within the job of fighting fires! Two best friends, 1 sister, and the Sparks that may combust at any given moment. Gabe, Sophia and Mav, the mix between the 3 is amazing, brother being protective, friend not crossing the line, join in for a wild ride! Amazing, seductive, alluring, most entertaining, absolutely loved this story❤️. Must read!
Wow! This was a Hot and Steamy Read! Maverick and Sofia had an instant connection, but Mav didn’t know that she was his best friends little sister! Maverick and Sofia made a great couple! Their chemistry was explosive! I hope Mayra has plans for writing a book for Gabe, Sofia’s Brother. If you like a hot, steamy, sexy book Burning Bridges is for you!
Wow! Maverick and Sofia were flat out combustible in this smoking hot book! Also tons of emotions to balance out the steam. Sofia is back from living abroad for school, feeling like she was/is in the way and Maverick is her older brothers best friend. The story is well written and fully captured me instantly. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Good thing there are firemen, This book is so hot they need to put out the flames. Mav and Sofia steam up the pages with instant attraction and chemistry. Only problem is Sofia is his best friends little sister. It was fun reading about all the sneaking around and flirting but I loved when Mav stood up and declared his love. Swoon!!!
Honestly the only reason I kept reading was because I thought that it would get better...the character development is terrible. The FMC is a fantastic, smart, capable woman who settles for a two-dimensional shallow, poorly developed man with the emotional maturity of a two year old.
