This book offers a methodological framework for constructing and validating large-scale testing systems and demonstrates the use of the framework through an account of the construction and validation of one specific testing system, which relies on the construction of communicative language ability in the specific context of classroom teaching. The test, called the Test of English for Teaching Purposes, was developed to assess the language proficiency in tasks which are likely to be encountered outside of the testing situation. The book presents the results of a baseline study on EFL teachers, discusses test development from planning to scoring, and considers issues related to test validation.
