This book is a very simple book describing characteristics of jack-o-lanterns with pictures. Every page in the book has one sentence, and this book could be great as an independent read for students no older than kindergarten. I am giving this book only three stars because it does not serve much purpose for students that are advanced, and could not really be used for whole group lessons (unless it was preschool).

This little book about pumpkins features very simple text in LARGE letters on one page, with a picture of a carved pumpkin on the facing page.

The book is at the Kindergarten reading level and I've featured it on a list of Pumpkin/Fall books for this age group.

The sentences at first describe features that make up a face, and then the images show different emotions like happy and scary.

I actually like the emphasis on facial features and emotions, as I think this is a book that could be easily used with toddlers, and then later as a primer.

Excellent seasonal book for early readers. One sentence on a page with a photograph of a pumpkins or pumpkins on the opposite side. Jack-o-lanterns can easily be compared to human faces with the number of features and emotions displayed.

Theme: Pumpkins
Additional themes: jack-o-lanterns, halloween
