Clarissa Cartharn is the author of romance novels such as Captive,Perfect Vengeance and the action/romance Jar series.

Traveling, learning new languages and cultures are some of her interests which have inspired her books. She turned her love for writing into a full-pledged passion with her first romance, Winter's End and has since never looked back. After almost ten romance novels, each with eclectic themes ranging from angsty Cinderella inspirations to thrillers set in the barren war torn lands of Afghanistan, Clarissa is currently on a new adventure to find her next love story.

Her Writing Style:
1. A premise
2. Romance
3. Realism
4. Heat. Yep, yep and yep
5. Vulgarity- where needed be. Oh come on, if she's gonna be writing about warlords, arms dealers, drug traffickers and rough-necked soldiers, then please don't expect them to be minding their tenses and grammar.
6. Oh yes, and a plot! Especially, a plot! A darned good one!

The writing style did not work for me. Multiple POVs and written in third person. The synopsis appears different than what the story is really. The FBI told everyone that Eric, the hero, died, even Anne, the heroine, so when Anne meets James (Eric's alas) she thinks he is too similar to Eric. Eric was going to run away with Anne before the FBI found him. Eric is an assassin, but Anne never knew that about the man she loved. The FBI wanted Eric to go undercover and help take down a gang. Anne is blind so she only has a "feeling" James may be Eric when she is with him. James was sleeping with the head gang member's baby sister, so there is that drama which I was excited to read, but those parts seem to be just be thrown in. The writing is just all over the place. I am even confused trying to explain it.
Anyway, too many POVs. Why do I need to know Julia's (the caretaker's) background when she is not even the heroine?!?! Fillers are everywhere in this book. Not for me, but may work for you.

Anne and Eric are in love and want nothing more than to be together for always. But circumstances dictate that isn't to be.

Eric is forced into going undercover with a drug gang, but first the FBI arranges his 'death' and name change. Then he's sent to San Diego to become a member of this notorious gang.

Two years later, Anne relocates to San Diego, needing a fresh start. She is still mourning the loss of Eric. Anne's friend and her young daughter have moved with her, as Anne is blind.

When James (Eric) accidentally runs into Anne, he feels as though he never left. But in order to protect her from the drug cartel, he must not tell her the truth.

It takes a little suspension of belief, but overall it was a very good storyline. The main characters are either really sweet .. or horribly sour. There seems to be no in-between. Throw in the young child and a cat and a dog ... you've roped me in. This was a fast, easy read.

I think my favorite part was the explanation of the jar of hearts. That's my teaser!

Many thanks to the author and Sweet Poisons Publicity who furnished a digital ARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion.

I enjoyed this book more than the first one. I really feel you need to read book one (A Jar of Dreams) first, even though other people have said it's good as a stand-alone novel. There is so much that happens in the first book that you will help you understand the second book so much better. If you want to read the first book, don't read my review first!!

Influences shape us and morph us into whoever or whatever it chooses. In the end we can’t outrun our identity. We are who we are. Eric Tanner found this out later in life. He was dealt his share of hardships and bad influences. A skilled hit-man was who he was. His pass, a bloody mess. Yet, despite his history, someone was willing to love him. Beyond all his flaws, someone was willing to stand by his side. Always.
He found hope and a chance to be normal in Anne. Her beauty was what attracted him first. It was her heart however, that kept him. Even though she was blind, he couldn’t help the love that he developed for her. Just when he was ready to put aside his old ways he was killed. Or was he?
Let’s just say the FBI needed his help. So badly that they would do anything to ensure he joined their team. Their mission, to take down the mayor and leader of Espinosa Cartel in San Diego; Trent Harvey. Now that Eric Tanner was ‘dead’ he would start life again as James Connelly.
Two years rolled by and James was the contracted hit-man for the Cartel’s rival; The Pachecos. The FBI’s plan was going exactly how they wanted it. James was focused and they could taste the victory they were about to score. But who said life had ended Eric’s and Anne’s love story?
The two are now neighbours. Anne’s back into his life and into his arms. The difference is he is a new man, yet his feelings for her has not changed. Get loss in this drama of a good time. Experience the ups and downs of love. The dark side of obsession. And the struggle to rearrange destiny. Happy Reading!

When the first book in this series ended i was stunned! I couldn't believe that that was the end, so when this book was finally in the light I was so, so happy! I forgot to post this review for a couple of months but I'm finally here.
I knew Eric couldn´t be dead, just couldn't. And this second part of the story was really good. Loved the way Clarissa told the story on why Anna was told Eric was dead.
The story is full of suspense, and is fast paced, and so easy to read. There are som sweet and hot moments too. This story is simple but just perfect. I love the way Clarissa made us feel her characters like part of our lives.
Great book!

I enjoyed book one in The Jar of Hearts series and actually loved the ending because I just knew the hero wasn't dead. If you read between the lines there were clues to this. When he's back having had to change identity, naturally you want him to pick up where he left off with the love story and fix the heroines broken heart.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was the perfect continuation of the story. It's dynamic, suspenseful and a real page turner.
Satisfying ending and an all round good read.

This book has a quick pace with a lot happening, but (fortunately) the pages don't go by too quickly. A really good story, this is a strong read with strong women central to it. I have not read book 1, so I can truly attest that it is fine as a stand-alone. I loved how the love story part of this was so well-developed. It really felt real.
