Queenie by Helen Scott
3 stars.
This read is told by alternating and multiple POVs, varying from Sera herself to the heroes. I have always loved this setting because I am always interested in knowing each and every of the main characters. I am not that partial to the paranormal genre but this one's kind of mellow in that department, so that's a plus point for me. As I have said from above, this is a quick read, esp being a standalone so the plot and character development is pretty simple. Unfortunately, and this is pretty common to standalones and every other quick reads, I wasn't that fully connected to the story and the characters. It's kind of like being interested in a pretty thing in passing.
At first, it kind of seems selfish and insensitive of Sera, esp when she didn't outright went back home when she learned of her father's condition. But in the grand scheme of things, she really needed that away moment - away from most people, even family and friends, to be able to develop and control her empathic abilities. At least, in that way, she'd be a better ruler of her kingdom.
