NIKKI

I’m not a saint. Never claimed to be. I’ve played the game and scored my fair share—both on and off the field. This is why I should have known better than to fall for a hockey player. But I did. I fell fast and hard.

Now I’m left with the painful consequences, reminded every day of how reckless I had been by giving him my heart so easily—so willingly. Dalt broke me in the cruelest of ways, and because of him, I’ll never be able to love again.

DALT

Nikki changed me. She made me want to be a better man. My days playing off the ice were over because she owned every little piece of my heart…until she left, leaving behind a gnawing ache where my heart used to be.

Now she’s back, and it’s painfully clear she hates me, ignoring me, pretending like I’m nobody to her. But that’s just too damn bad. I want answers. I want a goddamn explanation.

And most of all…I want her.

Review for Cross Drop
By Elizabeth Hartly
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book! It is a story of the college hockey, and soccer stars that meet and fall in love. They are torn apart by a self-serving malicious father. That thinks he knows best for his son. They eventually find their way back to each other and rekindle their love that never died. Only to be momentarily torn apart again by a secret they Nikki kept from Dalton.

4 Star Review Cross Drop (On The Edge Book 2) by Elizabeth Hartey

Cross Drop is a second chance at love story which I enjoyed from Elizabeth Hartey who is a new author to me. I do feel it may have been beneficial for me to have read the previous book in the series as although not about Nikki and Dalt, it certainly laid the groundwork for this story.

Having said that I appreciated that Ms.Hartey re capped in the first few chaptersof Cross Drop the background of the relationship between Nikki and Dalt otherwise I feel I would have been a tad lost reading this book..

Nikki and Dalton were meant to be forever; however they did not count on his father interfering in their relationship. Nikki is trying to move on with her life, reminded daily of the love that is no longer. Dalt was left reeling when Nikki left without explanation, but now that she is back, he wants answers and is bound and determined to get them.

The chemistry between Nikki and Dalt is intense, but is that enough for them to forgive each other and move on together? What will happen when the secret that Nikki hides is revealed?

This was a good book that had some seriously heart melting moments as well as tension and angst. I really liked both Dalt and Nikki and felt that the writing was strong.

I look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Hartey in the future.

You know an author is doing a great job when you first come across her at book 2 in the series yet you still love the book you are reading, I certainly will be checking out book 1 in the On the Edge Series as well as others by Elizabeth Hartley.
College hockey and College soccer come together in this second chance romance. Nikki and Dalt met and fell in love but Nikki disappeared without a trace for a couple of semesters when she returns will Dalt get the answers he wants and forgive her and will she find it in herself to be honest with the love of her life.....
I loved this story the characters have sizzling chemistry and depth which makes them easy to love, a beautifully written second chance love story with secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about. If you love hockey and sports romance you should one click now.

Nikki and Dalt are in serious lust at the beginning of the book. It shows they have a great connection and are seriously hooked on each other. Then there is a huge jump in time and they aren’t together anymore. Throughout the story, it explains the jump in time, but I would have liked to read and experience the emotions of the turning point. I feel it would have made a bigger impact on the story.

I did enjoy this story. It was a good second chance and sport related romance. It had a good amount of mystery, angst, and love. I have to admit, my stomach was tied up in knots over the secret Nikki was keeping from Dalt and the way it came out. I was intrigued by Nikki’s mom Rose, and her friend Matt. I also wish there was more mention and interaction with Chloe.

I really wanted to like this book but I felt like from the first chapter I knew exactly what was going to happen - turned out, I literally did - and the reason they broke up ended up being such an easy miscommunication that it really bothered me.

Also, hello! In the first chapter, he's the one that realized they didn't use a condom so I think it's also on him to have checked with her to see if anything had happened. If she had lied to him, then okay that's something but he didn't even check so I have to be honest, I think part of the blame is on him too.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review and honestly I was very excited for this book. I figured hot hockey players, what could go wrong? Unfortunately this story has been told many times in different ways and there was very little originality in it. In addition I didn’t connect with the characters. I felt like they were very superficial and just didn’t have enough depth to them to really fall in love with them. I think this book needed a different, original plot line to make it successful.

This is a new author for me. This was a great second chance book. I loved the plot it ran really smoothly throughout the book. Also, love the cover. This story is about two college players who fall in love but get drifted apart, but they rekindle there romance later on in life.

A new kind of sports romance!

This book was heavy on the sports, heavy on the drama and heavy on the steam.

I honestly didn't think I would like it at first. The beginning was all "look how awesome My girl Nikki is, she's perfect, can do no wrong, etc."

But THEN, boom! She's not his girl anymore! Why? You'll have to wait to find out. I sure did!

Relationship-suspense aside, I was so sucked in by the story. Though initially the characters seemed a bit shallow, they turned out to be anything but.

I would absolutely read more books by Elizabeth!

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I couldn't wait for this story! After the buildup in the previous book, I couldn't wait to see what went so wrong between this couple that seemed so right for each other.

Nikki and Dalt have explosive chemistry right from the start. And I loved that we got those first few chapters dedicated to the earlier parts of their relationship. It really built up the fact that these two had a strong connection and love early on...so it made it all that more heart-wrenching when you see how far apart they've grown.

I liked that what kept them apart was kept as a secret for the first few chapters. It made me eager to read more to see what drove such a huge wedge between them and it also added to the growing tension between them. You just knew these characters were going to crack under all that pressure and it was great to see that happen.

Unlike my experience with the last novel, I had no problem connecting with these two as characters. I think they have enough going on to develop them as characters but not overwhelm them either. They have their layers and their complications but it never seemed like too much.

As for the drama of the situation, I enjoyed it. The situation that kept them apart was a little frustrating to learn about at the start but once the characters developed a little more and their insecurities and such were revealed, it made sense to me. I personally would have preferred a different direction at the end but it does add to the story in a positive way.

Nonetheless, it was a steamy read filled with lots of tension and swoon worthy moments!

Elizabeth Hartey scores with CROSS DROP, the second book in the On the Edge Series. College hockey star, Dalton Walker, has loved one girl, Nikki Dixon. He has no idea why she suddenly hates him and left the school. Now two years later, she is back, and he is determined to figure out what happened. This contemporary sport romance primarily takes place at Bernard University in Maine.

After reading book one, CROSS STROKE, I was anxiously awaiting Dalt and Nikki’s story. They obviously had history; I had no idea how much. CROSS DROP is an excellent example of miscommunications and deception. Nikki thinks Dalt broke up with her. Dalt has no idea why Niki left him and disappeared from school. The two were clearly in love with each other. The things that transpired, and the lost time was unfortunate.

I enjoyed the characters. Dalt and Nikki are an adorable couple. What happened between them was horrible. Nikki should have been more trusting of Dalt, but it is understandable why she reacted the way she did. I’m glad she confided in Tracy, who brought a different perspective in the mix. They are a compatible couple. Dalt and Nikki are both hard working. They are excellent athletes. Nikki is captain of the soccer team, and Dalt is expected to be drafted. They were comfortable around one another. They were each other soul mates. They need to work on some issues to trust again; which is easier said than done, with a major secret that was kept. I like that they own up to their mistakes. Dalt is very thoughtful; I love where he takes Nikki on their date. I felt horrible about some of the things that happened with his family.

Elizabeth Hartey does an exceptional job with her writing and plot. I like how the story started out in the past and then fast forwarded to overlap with book one. A number of unexpected things occur throughout the novel. The story flowed well and was easy to read. Be warned it is a hard book to put down. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Cross Drop by Elizabeth Hartey is the second book in the On the Edge series. It is also my first book from this author since I didn't know about the series when I wanted to read this. Although I fully believe these books to be standalones I would still suggest reading book 1 of the series first to get a better understanding of the characters because honestly I felt a little confused when I started reading and it took a bit to feel caught up.

I had a lot of mixed emotions with every page I read. The first half of Cross Drop felt pretty dramatic to me but not in a good way. Nikki and Dalt were dating for a few months(I'm not sure the actual timeframe) when a big misunderstanding keeps them apart. Two years later these two find themselves trying to figure out what went wrong and if they want another shot at being together or not. The two years part is what really threw me off, especially the ridiculous reason why for. To me Nikki and Dalt both acted very immature and should have figured things out way sooner, considering they live next door to one another and share a group of friends.

The second half of Cross Drop really pulled the story together for me. I loved how Dalt stepped up once he knew what he wanted and anything he did I was swooning hard. The setting was another great thing about the book. It's in Maine, the state I was born in, and that brought back some good memories. The hockey scenes were an added bonus especially since they were in great detail and not just glossed over. Although I didn't fall in love with Cross Drop it was still a cute read and I feel once I start from the beginning and work my way back I will have a better appreciation for this story.

Nikki and Dalt were happily together, until forces broke them up, and both thought the other was responsible. Now two years later, even though Nikki hates him, she can't control her connection to him. And Dalt is going to get answers as to why she left him without a word why. But as they wade through the crap that tore them apart, how long will it last when the secret that Nikki still has is exposed? Oh my feels, Cross Drop had me from the very first paragraph to the very end, with everything in between. The emotional turmoil that went through was insane, as I experienced it along with Nikki and Dalt. When they hurt, so did I, when they got mad, so did I, yeah, you get the gist. Of course, as much as I loved Nikki, I sure did some extra yelling at her for that explosive secret that she was toting around, that's for sure. And from that secret, so many twists dropped along with so many of my f-bombs as well, so yeah, between leaky eyes, were some seriously colorful metaphors. Thankfully, the cast of secondaries were a definite voice of reason for them & me throughout. See, that's how brilliant Elizabeth Hartey's writing is, because I'm hooked to this series, and fully engaged with these characters like they are my own friends. So you know, I CANNOT WAIT for the next book, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

This was a great quick read. Nikki and Dalt meet at college, he’s king of the hockey rink and she’s the queen of the soccer field, they are both young, in love and having the time of their lives, until Dalts dad steps in to ruin everything, he had his own plans for Dalt, which didn’t include Nikki. The pace was ok although it did get a little tiresome in the middle, as it felt like they were just going over the same thing and getting nowhere, the start and finish were great though, I loved both these characters, Nikki was a strong, bright young woman, who was slightly insecure about the fact that they came from different backgrounds, and Dalton was hot AF with a dirty mouth and and even dirtier mind but he was also sweet and totally in love with Nikki. I also loved the humour, some of the lines had me cracking up. The chemistry (due to Dalts previously mentioned dirty mouth and mind) was also great, you could really feel how much these 2 loved each other. I will definitely read the other books in this series and would recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary, 2nd chance romance. I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily and honestly reviewed.

I really enjoyed this book.

Nikki & Dalt are so in love with each other - until Nikki disappears. When she comes back to school, there's suddenly a chasm between them that is so wide, leaving Dalt confused. As Dalt refuses to give up on the love of his life, he finds out secrets and things he never imagined. Can he and Nikki move past everything and give their love another chance?

I loved that Dalt never gave up on Nikki. Sure, he did dumb stuff, but his heart was in the right place more often than not. In no way do you ever doubt that they belong together. Nikki was scared and distrustful because of her past, leading her to make snap, life-altering decisions. And Dalt is right there to love her through it all. While the book is emotional, it is very sexy, too. Dalt & Nikki have crazy, hot chemistry that burns.

I loved this cast of characters, and enjoyed their varied interactions. I highly recommend it. I definitely look forward to more.

It was a given I was going to love Cross Drop. Second chance, secrets that keep you on edge, sexy hockey player. The list goes on and on of things I love when it comes to this book. I devoured it in one sitting completely glued to every page! Dalt and Nikki had me in love with them right from the start. From the heart warming sweetness before they were torn apart through the roller coaster of all they went through I was lost to their story.
The relationship they have is the definition of soul mates. Even torn apart by lies and weighed down by secrets the magnetic pull between them never wavers. Despite moments of heartbreaking emotion, their love is so deep and so sweet it outshines every tear. But with their second chance blooming into an even bigger love the secrets hiding are always there keeping you on edge waiting for when they come out. It made for a read that kept me captivated every moment start to finish.

This is my first book by Elizabeth Hartey, and I think that this is one of my favourite college hockey romance novels I have read this year.
This is the second book in this series, it can completely be read as a standalone, but as I haven't read the first book and the characters in that book do pop up in this one, I would love to read their story also.
Dalt and Nikki have not had the easiest of relationships, but it wasn't because of anything that either of them had done. But when they were together - boy they are spectacular as a couple.
This is such a wonderful second chance at love story, and when they finally managed to get their acts together, they are just perfect for one another.
Hopefully there will be more books in this series, as I would gladly read them all.

Dalt is a college hockey player who is expected to play in the NHL and Nikki is the captain of the soccer team. They were in love and appeared to the perfect couple until she left two years ago without telling Dalt why and they haven’t had any contact since.

Nikki is now back, and she is giving him the cold shoulder but he doesn’t know why as she was the one who left. She is the only woman he has ever loved and he wants answers. They find out they were betrayed and manage to move past the misunderstandings in their past but will the secret she holds bring them closer or tear them apart?

This is a sweet and sexy story of two people who have always belonged together and finally get their second chance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This is the 2nd book in this awesome series. Nikki and Dalt were soul-mates, until a misunderstanding sent Nikki packing. Now 2 years later she is back, and Dalt is determined to find out why she hates him. These two need to work hard to overcome issues and trust one another again. Will a huge secret finally end their relationship? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a beautifully written flawless story, which is an engaging and captivating page turner, and I was totally hooked throughout. I look forward to reading more in this phenomenal series, and highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all readers.

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary honest review. I'm just loving this series, first dak and Tracey and now Dalt and Nikki. Nikki and Dalt story is quite emotional but also filled with sexual chimisty. Some scenes are off the sex charts lol. I loved this book from start to finish. It's one 9f this books that has you on the edge of your seat thinking omg what could possibly happen next. Yes it was that damn good.

Nik is quite the horny, handsy drunk, “come on, hockey boy. Need to nail your big, hard love hammer,” she purrs into my ear." Dalt is quite cocky in his skills, “hey, you made me wait to get home. If we stayed at the inn, I’d already be buried so deep inside you everyone staying there would know my name by the way you’d be screaming it.” I liked this book, I loved Dalt.

What a great books! Nikki and Dalt are made for each other. They have such chemistry. Just when Nikki thinks everything is going right something must go wrong. Dalt has no clue why Nikki up and left him. Time and space hasn't dulled the attraction they have. Will they be able to get past their past? Will tragedy strike yet again? This was a great read!!!

Nikki and Dalt had a lot of history when we got to their story. Dalt is achieving his goals while Nikki is recapturing her life after a little break. Their story was endearing and I loved that they were able to connect again. I loved that Dalt really didn't give up. These two will make your heart melt.

Okay, this book is so different then the other sports romance novels out there - two characters who seem destined to be together from the very start and then suddenly they are no longer together - and you are like what the hell. I found myself really liking the character of Dalt and I felt so bad for him that Nikki just left him hanging, but it didn't take me long to figure out why - but then once you figure that out - you wonder why they actually split up. Elizabeth Hartey did a fantastic job with the story line and I loved how she webbed everything together - it was such a delight to read.

Nikki and Dalt are both very complex characters who both want each other - but for some reason unknown to the readers are not together. The story line is wonderfully written, the characters have depth and meaning and it is such a definitely enjoyable read. I loved how Dalt fought fearlessly for Nikki, not giving up on her even though she left him broken hearted. Nikki was running away from the past - which I definitely don't blame her - but there were times that I was getting so mad at her as she was so naive.

If you are looking for a good read, something fun and different then Cross Drop is the book for you. I really enjoyed the book and definitely will read other books by this great author. Make sure you add Cross Drop to your To-Be-Read Shelf.

Review

There were two reasons why I requested to review this book.

1. The Blurb - Normally I like male charaters that have been "wounded", which gives reason for their brooding or lack of love. The blurb gave me reason to believe that the female character dealt with heartbreak.

2. The main male character is a hockey player and the main female character is a soccer player.

🔥Heat level is high for a  contemporary romance novel.  Depending on the opinion of each individual reader, this  could be good or bad for the book. At first I was wondering if I would be able to finish the book because of the "heat level". However, as soon as I did, I immediately loved the couple.

Because both main characters were athletes, I expected more talk about soccer or hockey. This is why I chose the rating  of four out of five.

I really enjoyed this but it felt forced in some parts and I feel like I was missing some things from the story. I wasn’t as invested in this relationship as I was dak and Tracey’s but overall I did like dalts character. He is a man that every woman deserves to be with.
