Why I Scream in Verse is a series of poems for the woman, for the society, for the self. It questions the norms and pushes the realities on the face, using sarcasm and rhymes. It is a quiet read to burn the fire in your belly and make your heart cringe at the short and crisp cynical verses.
A cup of coffee, Instagram and this little book will bring you to read it over and think it over of the things that are being done and that have been done. The last section resounds with the soul as those verses seek answers to some very important questions of our lives.
I read poetry very rarely, but I do love it. I always read poetry when I feel uninspired, and this was a perfect, cozy read. This book by Isha Snehal has beautiful collection of poems, accompanied with illustrations. It helps you see things with different perspective in life, and I could relate to so many things, it's like every poem was speaking to my heart. .
“Why I scream in Verse” is a collection of poems. They are grouped into three categories- “A woman's journey”, “The social clauses” and “And we rise”
I'm not normally a big reader of poetry but I found these poems to be beautiful and I am very glad that I read them.
I really liked how they all had really deep, meaningful messages. Many questioned societal norms from different cultures, whilst others took a more philosophical turn, like talking about how we view ourselves and about seeking the answer to important life questions, that maybe no one really knows the answer to. These made me really reflect on how complex we, as human beings, are.
I would highly recommend giving these a read, even if you're not usually into poetry, you might be pleasantly surprised- like I was. I like how there was a lot of representation of different genders.
One of my favourites was “conscience” I perceived this to be about a person who is plagued by his/her conscience from making bad decisions in the past. Until they realise they can use their inner moral compass to become a better person, and do good things.
I think poetry is very much open to interpretation, so what I think it is about might be very different to how you see it.

Synopsis: This is a book of poems divided into three parts overall - A Woman’s Journey, The Social Causes, And We Rise. Each poem is accompanied by a simple but evocative illustration and the topics of the poems range from childhood to marriage to different professions but they all have a common theme. Why I Scream in Verse gives us the answer to the question posed in the book title!!
Review: First of all I’d like to tell Isha that she has done a spectacular job with this book! The topics are all things we face and see everyday. The verses are hard hitting, real and force you to think. They force you to question why something is happening? Or make you take a step back and wonder why people do the things they do or say the things they say. It is difficult to describe this book... it’s an experience meant to be read and interpreted by everyone in their own way. The one poem from the book I really loved is called ‘Tea’ and it begins like this: It is a strange matter, Of the world, The same beverage, Differently sipped, differently served. This doesn’t just talk about tea but about the different personalities who all drink tea but each in their own way! It is a beautiful metaphor for how we all have something in common but we each go about life in our own way!! I would definitely suggest that you pick up this book and give it a read!
Do not worry, Because it is not late, Just find that silver line of fate. 💢 •••BOOK REVIEW••• 'Why I Scream in Verse: At the World' By Isha Snehal 💢 The title of the book is apt for what the poet wants to express through this creative work. This book is a collection of short poems..poems dealing with some crucial yet untouched subjects of women, society and for self. 💢 The poet perfectly presented the thoughts and emotions she felt for the topics she wrote about! She channelised her writing for something so impacting and moving. 💢 The poems are lucid and relatable. Perfect example of how a simple writing can shake you to the core. 💢 I love the illustrations by the poet...but I think it could have been better..and more edgy and abstract rather than being so straight forward illustrations. 💢 This book contains poem on the topics like caste and sex discrimination, marital rape, broken marriages, child labour, self love etc. 💢 For anyone who would like to start poetry yet want to read some great one ..he/she should give this a try! 💢
The author sent me a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
It’s a nice little anthology of 50 poems written in simple, lucid language. I don’t usually read poetry but I really enjoyed this book for the wide-ranging issues it managed to tackle, question, and reflect upon in just 50 short poems. It’s divided into three sections:- A Woman’s Journey, The Social Clauses, And We Rise.
There were some poems that moved me and made me think, so I took my time reading, re-reading and absorbing them. I especially loved the writing style. As I mentioned earlier, it’s simple but eloquent. The profoundness of meaning hidden in the seemingly simple language is what made this book a wonderful read.
It’s not very dense, you’ll breeze through it in a few hours. This is the first time I actually liked something that the author sent me so I definitely recommend this. Grab a cup of tea, sit by the evening breeze and enjoy reading!
Why I scream in Verse is a short but a powerful read. It is a unique combination of poetry and illustrations. I'm not a big fan of poetry but I really liked this book. The author has aptly penned down the thoughts behind every emotion beautifully in the form of poetry.
I loved each and every illustration which was sketched before every poem. Each illustration is related to the poem and depicts the emotions the poetess wishes to describe through her poem. The poetess, with her lines and musings is able to connect with the readers. The thoughts behind each poem is so meaningful and touching.
The book is divided into three parts- A Woman’s Journey, The Social Clauses, And We Rise. The language used by the author is simple and understandable. Why I scream In Verse: At The World is a collection of well thought poems pertaining to various people from different walks in our lives. These poems are based on various scenarios, people and things that we come across in our lives. I'll just add a sample poem! . . //When I stepped young in this trade, I meant strength and was very brave. I listened to all orders and completed them well. And fought with grit, not letting thoughts dwell. And then I would accept more orders, Not letting my spine entertain shudders.“Shoot them dead!” if they say, Fast! even if they pray, And cold blood may drip well, I won’t worry if I went to hell. I wanted to, sometimes, protect my country. But for the title, and the name, That shone bold. The blame Would, however, remain the same. Deceitful killings in loudest orders, I did all, with my fellow soldiers//
Behind bars they've put me; A prisoner I am;stuck in a maze, Starkes are high on my crime; Even if,I did it in a haze. A prisoner I have grown, Asking for some mercy, bowing down, In a merciless crime Aching for some warmth in midst of internal war... And laden with guilt ,for killing my betrayed love. A criminal I'm not;but I have grown A monster out of a marriage, just a little torn...
Background 👚The book is sometimes rebellious and sometimes silent for me , sharing each page in a poetry , of a women mostly who is silent, Raining her words of screams in different form, Whether she is mother daughter or greater or the little one.. The verses talk about different ways.. The society threatened her.... Whether making her criminal of broken marriage or throw her in stack of burden of bin... 👔the book also echoes some other issues which is silent in fast moving city such as tale of flute child who wanderer on the street ,A sweeper who is less and his curses of life and many other.. 🎒the book has social personal moral as well conscious ground
Review 🙊the book empowers some silent and not so noticeable issues 🙊The book have 50 poems lined up well though I felt it could have been divided better for better understanding 🙊the words have their charm😊which is strength 🙊3.8/5🌟
