When Aleida's father suddenly dies, her scheming cousin seeks to destroy both her and her mother, bribing the villagers to accuse them of witchcraft in his quest to obtain their land and property for his own gain. The only one who can help them is Favian de Berville, a general in the king's army and a man she grew up with. With his help, Aleida manages to escape, but her mother is captured and has to stand trial as a witch. Favian seeks to keep Aleida from harm, but she objects to his domineering ways and tries to take matters into her own hands, thereby putting herself in danger. Favian has little tolerance for disobedience, and Aleida soon finds herself in trouble with the handsome general. Publisher's Power exchange scenes are a part of this storyline.
YOU TWO HAVE AN INVISIBLE CORD THAT LINKS YOU TOGETHER
I enjoyed this sweet historical story that takes place in 1641. The story is full of mystery, suspense, danger, angst, false accusations, deceit, bribery, lies, and then there is romance. When Merek Gray takes ill and his wife, Josselyn, cannot find anything to give him to help him recover, she will call for the town physician, Tobias Alcroft. But nothing will work, and Merek will die.
The story will have Tobias accusing not only Josselyn of witchcraft but her daughter, Aleida, too. It just so happens that Favian de Berville will be visiting at Highthorpe at the time. Favian’s late parents were good friends of the Grays, and after their death, he lived with the Gray family until he entered the service of King Charles, rising to the rank of General. At the request of Josselyn, Favian will help Aleida escape the mob, but her mother will be taken into custody to await a trial. Then Altholos Gray will swoop in and take possession of Highthorpe.
The story will have several twists and turns, along with daring rescues and escapes. While Aleida is at Favian’s home, Longford, he will be traveling back and forth to keep abreast of the situation and trial. He will have to seek outside help to say Josselyn’s life and must be heavy handed with Aleida for her foolishness.
Not only will Josselyn be accused of witchcraft, but many of the townspeople will provide false witness to seeing her perform witchcraft and paying homage to the devil. While Aleida isn’t there for the trial, she will be in danger too and face the possibility of being burned at the stake.
The story will have plenty of angst between Favian and Aleida as he is doing everything to keep her safe until he can get to the bottom of why people made false accusations and having to punish Aleida for putting herself at risk. The time that Favian and Aleida are together, it opens both of their eyes to feelings they have for each other.
“Perhaps you are a witch, after all, for you have me spellbound.”
“If I am a witch, then ‘tis a white one. My hair may be as black as a raven’s wing, but my heart is as white and pure as the driven snow.”
“Aye, I know it. Now, kiss me again so that I may make sure.”
While the story has many spanking scenes, nothing is overly harsh, and all well deserved. There is one mildly detailed sex scenes at the end of the story, after a marriage.
This was a sweet romantic story about a man trying to protect a young woman who is trying to save her mother. Favian cares for Aleida and will do what it takes to keep her safe. She is a bit reckless in her determination to save her mother and ends up keeping Favian very busy. Meanwhile, the man behind the accusation of witchcraft would be happy to see the end of both Aleida and her mother. The story was engaging, the characters were well-developed, and as one would expect from this author, the book was well-written. It was a super enjoyable quick read.
I enjoyed this story. One of the main characters is Aleida who is intelligent and thoughful, albeit young and naive at the start. Her and her mother are accused of witchcraft at the beginning of the book but Aleida is rescued in time by Favian de Berville, who she grew up with. Favian takes her to his home far away to hide her. She keeps trying to leave to rescue her mother but Favian keeps stopping her and then disciplines her by spanking. The characters are interesting and the plot line has some twists and turns, which kept me enthralled until the very last page.
A sweet historical spanking romance. If Barbara Cartland wrote spanking romance this might be the way she would have done it. I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't go into details. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Happily Ever After, Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Realistic, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Action-packed. Bookshelves/tags: adult, adventure, britain, domestic-discipline, romance, spanking, sweet.

I highly recommend this sweet and easy read. I enjoyed this story. There are plenty of different elements to hold the reader's interest. It's very well written and described. All the characters are well done. Aleida is sassy, sweet and can't keep away from trouble. Favian will do what is necessary to protect and guide her. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and I highly recommend it. A sweet and easy read.
Aleida's father passes away and things progressively get worst. Favian has always been fond of Aleida. Aleida has been charged with Witchcraft. Aleida's mother makes the supreme sacrifice and allows herself to be captured to save the life of her daughter. Aleida has the same spirit that her mother has and because of that she finds herself in hot water with Favian. He doesn't tolerate that behavior and makes quick remedy of it.
Protecting Aleida is a cute spanking romance that is an enjoyable way to spend a rainy afternoon. Aleida is a brat and richly deserves every spank she gets. Favian clearly adores Aleida but fears for safety when she and her mother are accused of witchcraft. Interesting plot and sweet romance blend to make a lovely story. Mild spanking also makes this a great choice for those looking to sample the genre.

Stories about witchcraft trials always make my stomach clench because that time in history was so cruel. This tale certainly had its cruel moments and had me on the edge of my couch. It also had spunky Aleida who was determined and would have gotten herself in a lot more trouble it were not for protective and sexy Favian. As always, Ms. Dawson wrote a lovely story that I couldn’t put down!
Her father does suddenly and there is trouble ahead for her mother and her. A cousin wants everything so accuses them of witchcraft. A friend helps her to escape but her mother is captured and put in trial. He wants to keep her safe but she wants to help her mother. See just how much trouble she will get into

Loved it. Favian is caring and protective of Aleida and her mother. Aleida is feisty, headstrong, and just plain difficult to handle, yet, there’s romance in the air. Plenty of action and spankings. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
A well-written story that kept my interest throughout, Aleida just could not stay out of trouble she deserved the spankings she received from Favian de Berville. I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another sweet and well written story by Maryse Dawson! She does such a wonderful job of spinning the story and keeping true to the time period. I enjoyed this book very much!
