Happy days! The series is back on solid ground as the final tournament against the evil dean is well underway. Two cooking competitions are actually completed in this volume. Protagonist Soma is up first with noodles, but nudist upperclassman Isshiki steals the show as some of his backstory is revealed during his eel shokugeki.

This makes me so impress with Isshiki senpai !!!!!!!!!! See that monster chef within , see that Julios ugly man! I can't believe they just went in to full victory! As for Megishima, I didn't think he was the third seat before! His exposure aren't much and I didn't even remember his seat number but I am just so impress!!!!!!!!!!!! He is awesome!! Just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was probably my favorite volume so far! Not only are we getting to see some top-notch cooking from the resistance and the council of ten, but this is the most we’ve seen of Isshiki’s cooking! He’s just the best character. He’s an amazing chef, but even more importantly, he’s an amazing friend and mentor. I also love how unhinged Rindo is. She is so funny. In fact I enjoy most of the council members, it’s just Azami and his stupid ideals that are annoying.

We finally get to see Isshiki-senpai fight seriously~! Oh happy day, not only does he get angry, but we get to see him as a tiny baby~! So freakin’ cute~! He’s the seventh seat for a reason and I’m officially giving him a chef nickname: The Dragon of the West. (You’ll understand when you read it. And yes, he deserves the same nickname as Uncle Iroh.)

Oh yeah, Soma goes up against Isshiki-senpai’s childhood friend, Nene Kinokuni.

This series has 36 volumes.

Man, there was so much I liked in this one. And a lot of the focus is on the mysterious and super awesome Isshiki, who is one of my faves. He and Yukihira together are like total magic!

I'm loving the current story line! This volume was a bit slow with the scientific information given however it was still really good and I can't wait to read the next volume!

Satoshi is officially the best character in this series!

The regimental shokugeki is off to a rousing start. Soma, as usual, manages to do the unlikely -- best another chef at their own specialty -- due to those plot twists that we see coming but still can't wait to see what exactly will unfold.

Satoshi is his usual creepy-but-so-charming self that you just can't help but like him. He makes his eel dish using ingredients that were created by the Polaris dormmates, taken without their permission ("stolen by my own two hands" is what he says, I believe). For example, he uses sake made by Marui (knowledge specialist) and Ryoko (fermentation specialist), cheese made by Yoshi and Ikumi, and...wood chips (? I forget) from the labors of smoking specialist Shun and the two secondary characters who helped him carry in the wood. It's utterly ridiculous, but of course, works out perfectly for Satoshi. Apparently that man is a beast. He has special culinary skills and has been holding back this whole time.

The judges, who are experts from the World Gourmet Organization, applaud both Soma's and Satoshi's efforts. The third win, between two more secondary characters, gives the rebels a clean sweep of the first round. I have to admit I thought the secondary-character rebel would lose, but hey...maybe they'll need him for future plotlines, or at least for the second or third round of the regimental. I'm excited to see what will happen next!

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Sōma!, Vol. 25 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (209–217) of the on-going manga series.

The tankōbon concludes the First Bout of the Régiment de Cuisine. It was a total victory for the Rebels as all three soundly defeated their Central Culinary Institute counterparts. Third Card Round, Sōma Yukihira fried soba concoction defeated Nene Kinokuni traditional soba style. Second Card Round, Satoshi Isshiki soundlessly defeated Julio Shiratsu, Eighth Seat, after he insulted Polaris Dormitory in the battle over eel. The First Card Round of the First Bout was done off-screen, but Tōsuke Megishima defeated Fifth Seat Shōko Kaburagi.

This tankōbon is written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. It concludes the First Bout of the Régiment de Cuisine. It seems that once again, Sōma Yukihira has changed the minds of his opponents by his cooking – this time Nene Kinokuni, who is now reconsidering her aristocratic ways of cooking. The opponents of Satoshi Isshiki and Tōsuke Megishima seemed inconsequential as the former receive less time in print and the latter none at all.

All in all, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma, Vol. 25 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

What a disappointment that we spend a third of the series with Soma trying to find his own style, only for this competition to have him go "oh well I know how to cook in a family restaurant style and that is how I am going to cook". Way to go with finding your own style, man! Soma's battle is boring and the outcome is ridiculous.

I dislike these judges who are religious food cultists joining the dean's food Crusades, and their big wordy "ooh-la-la look how impressive we are" air.

Isshiki is cool though! We finally get to see him trying, and going all-out! Best part of the volume and the one saving grace! Though with our protagonist having the style of 'making weird things work', having Isshiki come in with the style of 'making weird things work but ALSO being a good senpai' isn't very exciting. You could replace Isshiki with Soma in this battle and nothing changes from how every other battle in this series has gone. The only exception is that Isshiki is a former 7th Seat of the Council of Ten and everyone respected him BEFORE he started cooking- except this one new character they had to introduce specifically to hate Isshiki and his entire personality is based around hating Isshiki and stealing his style from the Aldini brothers.

The first bouts of the big showdown between the Central group and the "Resistance" group of Yukihira and his friends. In this story, the point of the soba noodle battle was to show why the cooking style of the Central group is inherently flawed. The idea that a chef should always do the "best method" by the book only works when the circumstances make that "best method" really the best, and a chef who doesn't know how or when to make changes is simply not as good.
That said, apparently I've never had really good soba noodles, because I really don't remember any significant difference that the buckwheat basis for them should make, in the aroma or flavor. Sigh. Now I will have to go find out what that's all about.

Two intense battles which were what's expected.

World: Solid art and world building where the tag team battle starts and the characters in the first match are introduced. New and old pieces get used.

Story: Two strong battles with emotions and stakes clearly defined. This tourney is all intense cause of the stakes and the characters involved. I will say that the two matches we get here (technically three) mostly played out as expected due to the characters involved.

Characters: Strong development with some nice emotional stakes. The two new central characters was nice and their back story interesting.

Solid.

Onward to the next book!

I love this series for the simple fact that I learn so much about food. I'm not that talented in the kitchen so I know I'll never use this knowledge, but I love having it. And these characters! I love them so much and I even hate those that I'm fairly sure I'm supposed to hate.

A good chef needs to adapt to their customers and not the other way around. It's very similar to good management where the manager changes to accommodate their employees and not where the employees have to change to fit the manager.

This should be titled: In Which We Find Out Isshiki-Sempai is a Bad Ass.

He's always been one of my favorite characters, but I think this just solidified his spot as my favorite. Sorry Soma and Megumi, you've been bumped to #2 and 3....

It was great getting some background on Isshiki. I was pleased he used the Polar Star Dorm's creations in his dish. It was truly a collaboration effort. I think this one was one of my favorites.

This was a good read. I was just disappointed that they didn't show any cooking at all for the former 3rd seat. We know nothing of his skills or specialty.
