Felix Romsey's Afterparty
Felix Romsey’s Afterparty is a rock festival with a big difference.
Put it this the latest headliners are Kurt Cobain, Whitney Houston and (making only his second live appearance since his death) John Lennon. It’s the Glastonbury of the afterlife; the place where dearly departed music fans can let off steam to the sounds that soundtracked their lives, and where late rock stars can be rock stars again.
Flamboyant promoter Felix Romsey and his amiable assistant Adrian “Podge” Jones frantically ride the anticipation among the capacity crowd and a backstage area chockfull of celebs. With the stakes this high, they’d be anxious even if everything were running smoothly.
But lately, things have not been running smoothly. With recent arrivals David Bowie and Prince snagged by rival promoters, Felix has reason to suspect a plot to oust him as the afterlife’s pre-eminent rock impresario. And when Lennon vanishes just as he’s drawing breath to sing his first note, Felix and Podge must find out who’s behind the sabotage, and rescue their star attraction – as well as their festival’s reputation – before it’s too late.

Not to be confused with Philosopher/Psychologist Tim Thornton, Historian Tim Thornton or Yachting/IT expert Tim Thornton.
Tim Thornton was born in Darlington in 1973. Despite a boarding-school education and a degree in Drama, his adulthood has largely been spent playing the drums, currently for alt-blues act Fink.
In 2006 he escaped from behind the drumkit and headed for his laptop where he attempted to do what few drummers had done before: string a written sentence together. In fact he managed around 15,000 of them, forming the backbone of his first novel, The Alternative Hero, published by Knopf in 2009.
In 2010 Tim's years of being in bands (9 unsigned, 2 signed) climaxed in a second novel, Death of an Unsigned Band, which contains a further 12,000 sentences, some of which contain verbs. It was released by Jonathan Cape in the UK, and might be available in other global destinations if you ask your bookstore very nicely.

I don't like writing reviews but since I'm the first person to rate this book on Goodreads...
A whimsical fantasy which kicks off at a massive Rock Festival in the Afterlife from which the headline act (John Lennon, no less) vanishes just as he is about to perform, leaving the promoter and his assistant scouring the afterlife searching for him. The book is chock-full of fun cameos from dead artists, but it was a more frivolous than I had anticipated from Tim Thornton, whose Death of an Unsigned Band and The Alternative Hero are both favourite "realistic" fictional takes on the rock'n'roll lifestyle.
3.5 stars
