Penelope Greene and Detective Leo Solomon are once against thrust into a mystery when a local banker is found dead in his pumpkin patch rumors swirl, especially after one witness reports seeing a ghost visiting the man just before his death. When one of Penelope’s employees finds the body and gets the scare of his life, Penelope is determined to figure out this spooky mystery before anyone else gets hurt. With her trusty lab and more stories from the townsfolk than Penelope and Leo can possibly ever look through, it might just prove too hard to distinguish between fact and ghost story. But what if the ghost story is true? Penelope begins to wonder more and more as she gets pulled deeper into the mystery surrounding Cole Lovelace’s murder if perhaps there is something to the sightings of the ghost, especially after the specter appears again after Cole’s death. Could it herald the death of someone else?

I really enjoyed this quick read. It is a Halloween adventure with murder, romance, mystery and reported ghosts. I look forward to reading more of this author's books.
This story is short, a little rushed, but totally worth the read. Each character is interesting in their own way, the mystery is simple and not overly complicated, and the book is a classic short cozy mystery. It’s definitely interesting and I look forward to reading more from the series.
A quick, easy read with a good plot and a nice twist at the end. The death of a banker has our police officer asking her for help. The police are down some members due to illness and birth. She agrees to help him on his interviews with female members of the public. However when one interviewee states that she saw a ghost (the man passed away a little while ago) both of them are perplexed especially as the son is away in college and there are no other male members around. A bloody button, a hostage situation are all mixed in with their everyday lives to make a perfect cozy to relax with. Likeable characters that grow on you the more you read the book.
10 stars!!!! I really like Penelope and Sorrel, with Sorrel and her different costumes for Halloween for the garden center for the customers and her younger brother Bradley. As Penelope is helping her detective Leo solve this weird case with the town's most hard ass man when it comes to business, when people lose their homes and land. It becomes who dunnit and why, with a neighbor seeing things in the man's backyard. And Penelope getting help from Bradley and then telling Leo. Murder, blackmail, and family feud. You will like this author, I do. Read it you will pleasantly surprised.
I like reading Halloween type mysteries around the holiday and I had picked up this free Kindle book sometime during the summer. After finishing the Poirot mystery (review below), I found this book begging for a read.
It was a decent mystery and just fine for Halloween reading, but, as I have said in previous reviews below, if I can guess who did the deed then the author didn’t really do a good job of misdirecting. I don’t read to figure out whodunit, I want to enjoy a good, solid story, so the fact that one of the characters said that another character couldn’t have done it because he wasn’t in the area (that and another big clue which I won’t reveal here), I just knew (that and the fact there just weren’t all that many suspects to begin with) who the culprit was.
This book was better than the average book and it was evident that the author put effort into the writing the story, I gave it three stars— better than average, barely.
I truly enjoyed reading the second book in this series. The characters seemed to have developed more including interpersonal relationships. Kristy E. Carter continued to dazzle with my imagination with her vivid imagery. This book held my attention while I tried to solve the crime for myself. What seemed to be obvious in other books were not seen early on and I appreciate that in a good cozy mystery.
Good short cozy. Well thought out. No language or adult situations, just a quick murder mystery. Characters interesting. Given 4 vs. 5 stars for some need for editing.
Penny is told on the first page about the discovery of a dead body. Penny decides to investigate. I like the main characters and the feel of a small town. I like the plot and the ghost in the pumpkin patch. This is an enjoyable mystery.
I really enjoyed this book and love the story line for each of the characters. This is my first time reading these books and I must say that for short stories they're well written and I would highly recommend this book
Quick read. The characters are fun to get to know and the setting is different than what I normally read so that is a plus. Hoping things work out for the characters.
