I absolutely loved this volume. Far from being de-railed by the Secret Empire event, Duggan uses is as the perfect backdrop to the natural conclusion to this lengthy run on Deadpool. I'd actually go as far as to say this is by far the best part of the Secret Empire crossover.

I found. This to be a very satisfying conclusion to this chapter in Wade's life and it really cleared the field and sewed the seeds for 'Despicable Deadpool'.

And that's how you do a forced company mandated crossover. Duggan uses Deadpool's reverence to Captain America to finish dragging him back into the muck. We've seen Wade spiral out of control over the last several issues, finally hitting rock bottom during Secret Empire. The jokes are really punchy throughout this volume. I loved the Cobra references to Hydra. The Speedball as heroin references made me do a spit take. Absolutely hilarious!

I'll miss Deadpool the hero. Hopefully, Duggan will have him meet some middle ground soon. I don't know how long I'll be able to tolerate dirtbag Deadpool after seeing the heart Deadpool secretly hides.

[Read as single issues]
This. This is how you do an event tie-in. After building up Deadpool for the past X amount of years to the hero everyone actually likes and trusts, Gerry Duggan pulls it all down around poor Wade's ears as he trusts the man that put him on an Avengers team, Captain America. But when Cap asks him to kill someone very important to the Marvel Universe, he realises that he's on the wrong side of things, and now it's too late. Fights with Preston, Maria Hill, and the Avengers later, and it's all gone wrong, and it's brilliant.

This is one of those arcs that stands out from the pack - I've ragged on this series for doing too many gimmick issues, but when it's on, it is full on. This arc is the 'Good, Bad & The Ugly' of this run of the title; the one arc you point at and go 'This is what I remember about this run'. Nothing really will be the same for Wade after this, and it's brilliantly executed, heartbreakingly painful, and pretty much perfect.

The art's by Matteo Lolli and Mike Hawthorne, both artists who have proven themselves time and again on this series (I think Hawthorne's basically the regular artist on the book at this point), and the level of emotion this story calls for really shines through in the visuals too. Lots of explosions and stuff, but lots of heart backing it up.

Poor Deadpool. Poor, poor Deadpool. It was never going to last, was it, Wade?

Once again Deadpool finds himself caught up in a big Marvel event. This one at least has a premise that works for the character. Secret Empire sees Captain America take over the USA as the leader of Hydra.

This run of Deadpool established a strong relationship between Cap and Deadpool so it makes perfect sense that Wade would do exactly what Cap tells him to. Which in this case is kill a respected and well-liked member of the Marvel universe. Followed by killing an important member of his own supporting cast.

This Deadpool run has often drifted to dark places but this is the darkest volume yet. Seeing Deadpool kill off characters we like is disturbing. There's also the element of wondering how Deadpool is going to cope with his actions in the long term too.

Unfortunately this doesn't quite work as a standalone story. The issues jump around the events of Secret Empire meaning to get the best experience you need to read the individual issues of Secret Empire and Deadpool in a particular way (the order they were released I assume).

What this does really well is change Deadpool's status quo. He has been a well-liked superhero and a member of the Avengers up until this volume but getting caught up with Stevil Rogers has changed that. It'll interesting to see where the character goes next.

A good use of a major event to change the character but like most tie-ins to events it feels a little forced at times and is hard to read continuity-wise.

It's hard to feel a lot of genuine sympathy for Deadpool, because a lot of what he suffers through he did to himself. But this time Deadpool was genuinely trying to do the right thing, and he was taken advantage of. If that don't just kill you, I don't know what does.

This story got surprisingly real. I mean, as a tie-in to the whole "Secret Empire" story arc (which I still think was ridiculous--to be fair I haven't read it, but I haven't read it because I have zero interest in it), but still... I expect a few more laughs from Deadpool. That said, this volume at least had me invested more than the last one (which felt like killing and gore just for the sake of it: "Hey, if there's enough bloodshed, people will laugh right? Just because of how insane it is? Right, right?!?" Answer: Wrong.) This one went the other way, feeling a bit too heavy at times. I suppose between the two styles, I'd rather have the latter, but Deadpool, for me at least, works best, when he's somewhere in between: Where I'm invested, but I'm still laughing. (The only part that got any sort of grin out of me was when Deadpool would say anything other than "hail" Hydra.) All in all, though, if you're reading this series, is not bad. It's just not what I usually expect from the Merc with the Mouth.

I can't believe that I loved this. The idea of a Deadpool book is a testament to author Gerry Duggan. He created so much emotion in a story involving a Marvel line-wide crossover that was mid at best and he along with the talented artists Matteo Lolli and Mike Hawthorne made magic. Wade was portrayed perfectly and his emotional roller coaster was a treat. As mentioned, the art was great. Overall, possibly my favorite Deadpool story ever, mostly because of its range.

Not the best. It seemed to jump around a bit and there were too many characters talking “off-screen” that didn’t have enough dialogue for me to identify them. I also didn’t quite get Wade’s motivations throughout.

Come on...it's Duggan ending his epic Deadpool run...there's only one ranking to give it even if something happened that makes me very unhappy!

The world Deadpool knows is no more! Captain America has made his intentions known and the United States of America is now under the domain of HYDRA!

In order to keep his daughter Ellie safe, Wade Wilson will burn all of his bridges. That includes his relationships with Agent Preston, the Avengers, the Mercs for Money and even Rogue!

It's been alluded to for several volumes now that the Merc with a Mouth was going to bottom out and this is the beginning of that downfall.

Secret Empire was a great read. It's another Gerry Duggan triumph! I just hate seeing bad things happen to Deadpool. I know that he deserves a lot of what is coming to him. But this wasn't one of those things he deserved.

Man, is that HYDRA Cap slimy. It's no wonder Captain America has fallen from being my favorite superhero of all-time to 4th or 5th. He and Marvel have a look of restoration to do to put him back in the top position.

3.5 maybe?

The majority of this volume continued the trend this run has had of telling more serious Deadpool storylines. However, surpassing my expectations, this one was surprisingly well-told as it brought Deadpool into Cap's Secret Empire storyline. It felt like stronger writing than this series has sometimes had and put Deadpool into some interesting conflicts.

However, as Secret Empire ended elsewhere, it basically just resolved off-page in this collection and pushed Deadpool off into a new development of the storyline, leaving the final volume feeling abrupt and hard to follow.

This Deadpool run continues to be strong enough to hold my attention, but generally not much more than that. However, parts of this volume were standouts in the run's writing quality. I remain curious to see where it will go next.

People sure do like building Deadpool up, only to bring him down to a a very low, low.

If you've been reading the Gerry Duggan run of Deadpool, you know he has been doing his best to be a "good guy" for a while now. He's had a lot of up and downs, but throughout he has maintained a sense of honor that allows him to climb to the heights of even the Avengers. He has a respect for heroes, as he knows how hard the job is. And one of the heroes he holds in highest regard is Captain America. So when Captain America, who is actually Hydra Cap, comes to Wade to have him carry out some nefarious tasks for the "good of the world", he has some hesitancy, but still carries out his assignments cause... its cap.

Thus, leading into the fall of Hydra Cap and the disillusionment of Wade Wilson. Once he realizes that he was on the wrong side, and that he was manipulated yet again, he kind of says "Fuck it" to the whole good guy thing and opts for vengeance instead. It seems that Duggan has left Deadpool on the doorstep of being a villain again, so it will be interesting to see where the next creative team takes it from here.

Highly recommended for fans of Deadpool.

Wierzy, bo to w końcu Steve Rogers.

3.5 Stars.
As a direct tie-in with Secret Empire, this final Volume of Deadpool: World's Greatest goes out with a few bangs but mostly whimpers.
Trusting Steve Rogers, Deadpool does what he does best, and takes out people on the word of Cap.... including Phil Coulson. This causes a huge rift between him and Preston, and 'Pool decides that the only way he solve all his issues at once is to take off on his own and start over.
I really hope the "Despicable Deadpool" run gets back to the sheer absurdity that this comic should be.
Recommend the Volume with reservation, and the run overall.

See, this is an interesting angle. Deadpool has been following Steve Rogers' orders since he began the Unity Squad. Before and during Secret Empire, Stevil uses Deadpool to take out Agent Coulson and members of the resistance. Deadpool doesn't like it, but he follows orders while trying to look out for his daughter under the new regime and maybe coming up with something that could surreptitiously help the heroes.

Pretty solid. Shows us that even though Deadpool has placed his trust and is backing Hydra Captain America, he still has a good guy side to him, somewhat working to provide indirect support to the resistance while also trying to accept and make amends with the damage he has caused to an already crumbling S.H.I.E.L.D.

Yeah, I get the psychodrama. Deadpool believe he's not good enough so he acts like he's not good enough.

A cycle of shame and violence. I get it, I get it.

It just doesn't quite feel like it's going to go anywhere except the next episode of shame and violence.

Don’t know what I expected. Don’t know much of the backstory. Don’t know what I don’t know. Thought it would be funnier, wittier, more brutally sarcastic. Don’t know why I think I can pick up one of these mainstream serials and have any sort of clue to the plot.

It's interesting that the whole Steve Rogers cock up is what ends up turning Wade back into anti-hero/possible villain. But it fits his arc really well. Poor Wade can't ever catch a break for long...

I liked Deadpool going back to the dark side story, it was quite emotional.
Looking forward to future volumes.
