"The Promises of God are like the rudder to a ship. Reviewing them sets the direction for your whole life." In this feature message from The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind, Bill Johnson discusses mental and spiritual strategies for waging victorious spiritual warfare on the most important battle your mind.
Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.
Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.
Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.
Johnson speaking at a conference Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.
While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".
In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"
In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.
According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.
Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.
Some good stuff and some not so good stuff, especially his theology on suffering is a lacking: All sickness is from the devil and so God has nothing to do with it? Would be great if the charismatic movement would have less black and white thinking about sickness, suffering, healing.. etc. Read Job ;)
This is only a small portion from a larger book – something that wasn’t evident when purchased. The book is good, but I am troubled with how some of the arguments are presented. If I would analyse the arguments academically, I have no disagreement, but if I take in the arguments emotionally, then I do. In particular, Bill Johnson writes as if he considers physical healing the pinnacle of God’s work, rather than transforming lives. I do not believe this is true, rather this is how it appears when reading the book emotionally. As a result I have trouble with the book, even as I have no trouble with the author.
This is a brilliant book which was easy to read and explain see to people why the are going through what they were going through without judgement yet allowing them the ability and wisdom to step into their victory. To much is preached off the pulpit does not address these issues, when people are going through stuff they end up being made to feel it is their fault and looking around they begin to feel it. This book addressed this issue and I believe it read playfully will help many. My favourite part is where suffering was touched on, this subjected to be addressed more and people going through a trial being helped through good solid biblical teaching.
This is a great book that steers us in the right direction. In all circumstances and situations God is good and mostly in control. The book comes at a great time and encourages belief to a correct response. Gee I wonder if it was just by chance the book arrived at a time I needed it. Or could this be another one of times that God knew what I needed and when?? God is so absolutely unbelievably good. No words can do justice to HIM.
A great reminder of the Reality of the Spirit and Character of God.
This book was a reminder of the need to always be aware of the goodness of God and the reality of His presence. I understand that my responsibility is to open my heart and mouth in praise and worship in all circumstances as an acknowledgement that He desires to keep all His promises and as a key to the gate of His blessing.
Bill Johnson never fails to inspire me to reach for a closer relationship to God, and therefore seek a more fruitful and powerful life with Him. His words always awaken me to the great potential of life with God, on earth, through His Spirit. I really like the concept of taking a portion of a book and re-presenting it like this.
This a great read. It reminds us to stay faithful to God because He is faithful to us. It also reminds us to stay connected to God through prayer and meditation.
I choose this rating because the book reopened a door in me. Refreshed a drying spot that needed to be replenished with hope.
For whatever reason this book appears to be excerpts from maybe another book written, which doesn’t provide it reader with a true picture of spiritual warfare that occurs in the mind, nor really how to combat or defeat the war therein.
Thanks for the excerpt, but it should be known that it’s an except.
I really love reading Bill Johnson's books and messages as he is so rooted in the Word - completely. So many people come to some wild conclusions about God and the miraculous based upon a single circumstance or explanation given by another individual who hasn't sought scripture, but rather is giving their personal philosphy based upon emotion or their own human reasoning.
Just what I've come to expect from Bill Johnson. Excellent teaching. Very practical and insightful teaching on winning the war in our minds. Great explanation on meditation.
Exactly what I needed to read in this season. God challenges us to trust despite insurmountable circumstances. And this booklet emphasizes the renewing of the mind and how it is done. Definitely points me in the right direction.
Purchased this book for my Kindle, after viewing his preach “The War in Your Head” 0n You Tube. Thought the booklet would expound on his preach. But very disappointed, had very little scripture reference, tended to ramble on about a trip to Star Bucks. Unimpressed with the read.
I like how relating the stories are. But more than that, the writer points out the Truth of who God is. “First endure through uncertainty before believing the devils lie to feel good about it.” Wow!
A short but very inspiring read. I appreciate Bill Johnson’s wisdom & heart for God. When going through difficult times this book will remind you of His promises.
I love the way Bill Johnson writes. His connection with God and Heaven is so real and pure. He makes you stop and think about the Bible in a different way. This was a quick introduction to how we can transform our mind to that of Heaven.
Excellent read! Short, concise and impactful. I'll have to read this over and over. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to live as Jesus said, life and more abundantly. Thank you.
Simple Biblical Truths that lead us to practical actions that change the way we think and do. It reminds us of the importance of worship and persistence in prayer that open doors to God’s intervention in our lives, our families and our city.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. Bill Johnson is a good author he’s so matter of fact in his writing. He makes things very understandable. Would definitely recommend.
A nice short read for anyone going through a tough time and needing a reminder of how to stay in the mind of Christ. Bill gives practical steps for staying in faith through any season!
I was facing many trials when this book came to me. I will read it many times. If you are walking in uncertain pathways, this book will help set you free.
Anyone struggling with believing The Lord Period. This is the right book for You. It will Challenge your Spirit to trust in The LORD With all Your heart..Blessings in Jesus name.
It's good to be reminded about the basics of our journey with God. In a short and succinct way, this book shows you how to navigate and overcome the battlefield of the mind.
It's a lovely read and definitely one to revisit from time to time.
Bill Johnson did a great job conveying the importance of having the right mindset when it comes to our relationship Jesus. I felt his love and compassion God and his people. Short but powerful.
Good reminder that we cannot live faith filled lives by ordinary means. We must go to the source of truth in the bible and live by faith even when we don't understand.
This book I read at a time when things were going g wrong. Thanks to this book I'm learning to thank God in those hard times. I know I'm my heart that God is with me x He loves me. I know that is all I need
An incredibly timely book for a time such as this. Bill Johnson’s written journey through his fellowship with Jesus on our thoughts and identity has created such a beautiful and powerful aid to our generation.
This is a short book focusing on renewing the mind. It explains how it is important to meditate on the Word, the promises of God for your life and in times of uncertainties while you're waiting on the promises to unfold take the time to worship God and trust his goodness.
