It’s the most magical time of the year, and for travel agent Sarah it’s also the busiest! But this year one man threatens to ruin Christmas for Sarah’s customers – Mr Grinch, Will Armstrong.
The Shooting Star Mountain resort is a magical place, and Sarah has fond memories of Christmas here as a little girl – visits to Father Christmas, husky rides in the snow and hot chocolate by a roaring fire. But as the resorts new owner, Will refuses to play snowball or to deck the halls with anything remotely resembling tinsel!
With customers complaining their Christmas is ruined, Sarah decides it’s up to her to convince Scroogey Will just how magical Christmas can be….
But getting Will into the Christmas spirit is hopeless – he is Bah Humbug personified! But as Sarah gets to know him better, she realises that underneath all the gloom is a man struggling with a pain of his own.
With the big day approaching, Sarah realises that the magic and sparkle can wait. This year, she’s going to spend Christmas day with someone special her very own Mr Scrooge…
Zara Stoneley is the USA Today bestselling author of The Wedding Date.
Born in a small village in the UK, she wanted to be a female James Herriot, a spy, or an author when she grew up. After many (many) years, and many different jobs, her dream of writing a bestseller came true.
She writes about friendship, dreams, love, and happy ever afters, and hopes that her tales make you laugh a lot, cry a little, and occasionally say 'ahhh'.
Zara now lives in a Cheshire village with her family, a lively cockapoo called Harry, and a very bossy (and slightly evil) cat called Saffron.
Zara’s bestselling novels include 'The Wedding Date', 'The Holiday Swap', 'Summer with the Country Village Vet', 'Blackberry Picking at Jasmine Cottage' and the popular Tippermere series - 'Stable Mates', 'Country Affairs' and 'Country Rivals'.
NO ONE CANCELS CHRISTMAS is a light hearted read, about re igniting a lil Christmas Spirit, finding oneself, a good sprinkle of Romance, plenty of Drama and a fair amount of sass and humour.
Sarah helps her Aunt Lynn run her travel agents. But things are not looking quiet so rosy when customers start to leave bad feedback on their favourite best seller Christmas retreat..... The Shooting Star Mountain Resort. It goes to say things have gotten so bad, one customer is threatening to sue them.
Sarah is devastated.... The Shooting Star Mountain Resort holds very personal memories for her. The new owner Will and his brother Ed are running the Resort into the ground. There is no longer any Christmas Magic, it's lack lustre ambience is leaving clients cold.
So Sarah decides to jump on a plane and find out just why her favourite resort is getting such bad feedback. Sarah, has tried reasoning with Owner Will but he is obnoxious and rude. So he leave her no choice but to investigate.
But what Sarah doesn't bargain for.... is how handsome Will is. There is a strong sexual chemistry between them, but can Sarah convince Will to make Christmas and The Shooting Star Mountain Resort magical again?
I can't say too much more about the plot for fear of giving too much away. As there is lots going on.
Sarah is a deeply flawed Character. She is very insecure, but once you discover her story it makes sense. For her visiting The Shooting Star Mountain Resort, it's a huge achievement. She's not the easiest character to relate too but if you suffer from anxiety and fears which I do, I found I understood her.
No One Cancels Christmas is an Enchanting, warm, feel good read about finding oneself, moving on, facing the past, trying to recapture the magic of Christmas, making friends, learning to open up, family, drama and romance. The characters are all fairly flawed, but intriguing and likeable. I enjoyed the grinch bah humbug feel and then having Sarah trying to make Christmas special again it left me feeling warm inside.
Overall this is a wonderful Christmas read, that warmed my heart. Oh and did I mention the husky dogs 😍🐶 any book with fur babies is a winner! So grab a hot chocolate and a cosy blanket and snuggle up As Zara transports you to The Shooting Star Mountain Resort, where anything can happen!!
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I try and blow the crumbs out of the keyboard. The letter ‘T’ is already a bit dodgy; if this ruins W and A I’ll have lost one of my favourite words.
She had Dad on his bike, towing her through the park on her skies every night. It was so embarrassing. Then at the fete, she cannoned out of control into the cake and homemade jam stall and ended up looking like a murder victim.
She is about two feet taller than me, and she has boobs. At a guess, they’re surgically enhanced, because I am absolutely positive that gravity would have a firm handle on anything that big. If it can cope with an apple, these wouldn’t stand a chance.
My Review:
Sharing several of the same characters and following in timeline to Wedding Date, this tale also showcases Ms. Stoneley’s clever wit and penchant for observant and insightful storytelling. The storylines were entertaining, thoughtfully written, and well-balanced between heart-squeezing family drama and angst, and smirk-inducing levity. My favorite character among the cast continues to be the colorful and confident Ruth, although Aunt Lynn has also earned my utmost respect for her enviable cougar style and skills. I am eager to see what Ms. Stoneley comes up with next.
A wonderful winter romance, with some holiday cheer sprinkled in!
This book was stuffed full of everything you want from a winter romance... a beautiful snowy setting, A warm inviting ranch, snowboarding, dogsleds, hot chocolate, and hot guys! OK well at first the ranch wasn’t so inviting and the hot guy was pretty grumpy, but...
Sarah, Sam’s BFF from “ The Wedding Date“.... A book you don’t need to read to enjoy this one, but I strongly recommend it’s super fun! Sarah is a travel agent who has been sending her clients to The Shooting Star Mountain Ranch, for the perfect white Christmas....But after complaints start coming in and she begins emailing the grumpy ranch owner she takes it upon herself to travel to Canada and show Mr. grinch what Christmas is all about... but after meeting Mr. grinch A.k.a. Will, Sarah sees that he has been hurt and there is more to him than what is on the surface... so what has made Will’s heart two sizes too small? And will Sarah be able to melt his frozen heart? Or the bigger question, does she even want to?
A festive story that will make you laugh, that will make you smile, that will put you in the holiday mood... it really was these characters that made this good story so fantastic! I adored Sarah I loved her spunk and her spirit and her tenacity....Will was a really good guy underneath that layer of ice, really the kind of guy you’d want your daughter to marry.... his brother Ed was a wonderful Colorful character, Who made me giggle more than once! Once again I loved, loved, loved, the friendship between Sarah and Sam.... and Sam’s mom Ruth stole every scene she was in, there was one scene in this book where she had me in tears! Really the perfect enemies to lovers story, one of my all-time favorite tropes! I certainly hope this is not the last book with these characters, I really and truly have enjoyed them and I’m not ready to say goodbye!
Absolutely recommend to anyone who loves a good winter romance that is festive and fun!💚❤️💚
*** A huge thank you to Harper Impulse for my copy of this book ***
No One Cancels Christmas by Zara Stoneley is a contemporary romance set during the holiday season. In this story Sarah is working at the travel agency owned by her aunt when she gets a complaint letter from a client that The Shooting Star Mountain resort was not what they were told it would be.
Sarah had already had several other complaints so she gets the idea that she will travel up to Canada to the resort and find out just what is going on with the business before the agency loses clients recommending the vacation destination. Once Sarah arrives at the resort she meets the owners Will Armstrong and realizes her job may be harder then she thought when he gives Scrooge a run for his money.
No One Cancels Christmas is one of those books that had me chuckling on the opening pages during the letters to Sarah then her response to Will. I knew right then I would be in for a hilariously good time reading this story. Once Sarah heads to the resort you find all kinds of Christmas fun involved as she tries to whip the place into the magical destination she remembers. Both characters show growth through the story and deal with some personal issues as they also grow close to one another but it never loses it’s humorous vibe along the way that kept the pages turning for me.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I really enjoyed No One Cancels Christmas. Zara Stoneley has penned a story that is a perfect compliment to the festive season.
Sarah runs a travel shop that prides itself on personally seeking out holiday destinations. The beautiful Shooting Star Mountain resort has always had amazing reviews but recently those reviews could not be worse. After talking to her aunt, Sarah decides to tackle the problem head on. Returning there means facing some painful memories and dealing with the rather abrasive new owner of the resort, Will Armstrong.
This book has me wanting to deck my halls in October. (Hubby says no.) The stories journey contains the perfect elements that one wants from a Christmas romance. Ambience, romance, angst and a sense of family. This festive delight is everything that I could have hoped for and more.
It didn’t take me long to read and every page drew me further into this fabulously written treat
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and Zara Stoneley for providing me with a review copy of No One Cancels Christmas in exchange for my honest review.
Considering the stir this author creates in the blogosphere whenever her books come out, I was eager to read this new festive installement. Since it is my first, there is no comparing to her other works. Some of the characters of her previous novel 'The Wedding Date' are also featured here but the book can very well be read as a standalone.
Let me start with the cover. It is cute and simple and embraces the Christmas spirit in an easy elegance. The season of happiness, love and forgiveness is just around the corner and here we meet travel agent Sarah trying to regain the magical nature of The Shooting Star Mountain Resort. Hunky Will Armstrong proves to be a major hurdle but the place contains her last memories with her parents and Sarah can't let it go under.
The instant chemistry between Sarah and Will can be easily perceived but one would have never guessed the secret Will harbours underneath that Mr. Grinch persona. The author's witty narrative style captures you from the first line and it is revealed to be quite a merry ride till the very end. If you need a short light romance for Christmas, this is just your pick.
I love this author and she didn't disappoint me at all I was laughing and crying at the same time such a great heartwarming read and full of festive cheer and perfect to curl up and read. Shows how one man can threaten to ruin Christmas for travellers going on holiday and full of romance and magic and a fantastic read you just don't want to miss. Also about families and learning the truth. Sarah was brought up from a young age by her aunt as she thinks her parents abandoned her. She's close to her aunt and helps in the family travel agent shop providing people with perfect holidays. She loves Christmas and has happy memories of this time in a resort in Canada but she starts reading bad reports of people who have been to the resort and about how Will is not getting in the Christmas spirit at all and not welcoming guests so she wants to go out there to get him back in the spirit and for people to enjoy their holiday time there. Problem is she always spends Christmas with her aunt so she goes to speak to her but she breaks it first that she is going to see someone special at Christmas so won't be with her she's upset as doesn't feel it will be the same. She confirms she will go away to this resort to turn it around. When she gets there can she sort Will out and turn him around and get him into the Christmas spirit and as the big day approaches she wants to make it special and when people from back home turn up will this be able to happen. Will Sarah finally find romance or can she just not settle down and be happy. Can they turn the resort round and what happens when she learns a family secret. This is a brilliant book and worth more than five stars and so recommend anyone to read it and curl up and enjoy the Christmas spirit.
I have waited until today Christmas Day to do my review. No One Cancels Christmas is a quiet amusing read. Stephen Latterby has written a letter of complaint to his travel agent Sarah Hall. It’s Sarah’s job to pass on his long list of complaints to Will Armstrong the owner of The Shooting Star Mountain Resort. Full of laugh out loud moment. There’s lots more to look forward to but I don’t want to spoil it for readers who may have got this book to read for Christmas.
Well I managed to hold out until October for my first Christmas read of the year but what an absolutely brilliant one to start off with! Zara Stoneley has written a fun and festive romantic comedy that had me in stitches on one page but then in tears the next! Talk about an emotional rollercoaster!
”Tis the season to be jolly apparently but it looks like Will Armstrong didn’t get the memo! When Sarah starts to get complaints from clients of her travel agency about the lack of “happy holiday” Christmas charm at The Shooting Star Mountain Resort, she decides to visit herself to see if she can get to the bottom of the problem. But her emails to the gorgeous owner haven’t revealed the whole truth about the situation at the ranch and when Sarah arrives there are more shocks in store than even she had been expecting. Can she save her own happy memories of her childhood Christmas and create a few more “adult” ones as well?!
I adored No One Cancels Christmas! It’s such a heartwarming read that it immensely made me want to bake mince pies and rush out to buy Baileys so I could make my very special Christmas hot chocolate! If ever there was a book that made you wish for a white Christmas then it’s this one! Sarah and Will were relatable and personable plus they had PLENTY of chemistry! And there was a whole host of supporting characters who also brought this book to life, with my own personal favourite being Poppy who we meet on the flight to Canada and who brought a huge smile to my face with her cheeky antics!
There is so much to love about this book and it has definitely put me in festive mood already! Beautifully written with unexpected plot twists that gave an emotional punch to my heart, I thoroughly enjoyed every single page of this merry mayhem! Bring on the snow!
This is a book that has something for everyone - winter landscapes, snowmobiles, a flirtatious man, a grumpy man, a mountain resort needing some Christmas cheer, a feisty woman who is determined to turn the resort around, a familiar face, and just a fabulous story set in the run up to Christmas.
So the winter landscapes, well the book is predominately set in Canada at the Shooting Star Mountain resort. There is snow as far as the eye can see, I definitely felt cold reading this, but has beautiful scenery too and I could really picture it all.
Turns out snowmobiles to play quite a big part in the story, and its due to one of them that the circumstances of one of my favourite scenes in the book occurred. Plus the descriptions of the speed, and how it feels to ride one were really amusing. Also really enjoyed the scenes featuring the dog sledding, and Sarah learning to snowboard!
The flirtatious man is younger brother Ed and one of the brothers running the resort. He is though rather work shy and is only happy when flirting with women, or out on the slops. Watching him attempt to get out of doing that resembles hard work is really amusing.
Whereas the grumpy, scrooge like man is Will, the older brother and he has his reasons for acting like he does. We first come across him responding to some of Sarah's rather stroppy emails and you get a glimpse of his real personality shining through.
I loved every moment spent at the Shooting Star Mountain Resort and enjoyed seeing its transformation as Sarah, our feisty female tries to boss the brothers about and bring it back to its former glory. Sarah had spent one rather memorable Christmas there as a child and is determined that the place can be as special as it once was.
If you are fan of Zara Stoneley then like me you may be please to see a familiar face in Sam, who works alongside Sarah. Sam was the lead in A Wedding Date, so it was lovely to catch up with her.
From the first few pages this is a book that had me smiling, and racing through the pages in pure enjoyment. Certainly one of the authors best books and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Impulse for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Another cracking read from Zara Stoneley. I was whisked away to Canada with Sarah and couldn't wait to find out if handsome, tortured Will would be thawed over Christmas! Fabulous, fun fiction for the holidays!
Qui conosce Will Armstrong, uno dei proprietari. ⭐⭐🌠
I always smile when I see a Zara Stoneley book because I know I’m going to be able to lose myself between the pages for a while and go on an adventure to some place exciting.
I do love the Christmassy cover, the cute sprinkle of stars with a candy cane heart, that indicates a journey towards romance but there is sure to be some obstacles in the way, these stories never run smoothly.
Yes, there is some festive cheer but it’s mainly a tale of hope, family secrets, discovering why people act the way they do and realising there is usually a good reason behind it. It proves that talking among family and friends honestly can prevent years of misery.
Sarah has always had Aunt Lynn in her life, they have shared everything and have built up traditions over the years for each occasion. It comes as a great shock to Sarah when Lynn tells her she won’t actually be doing the norm this year.
Sarah runs the family travel business and has to deal with the correspondence from dissatisfied customers at one of her favourite haunts in Canada. She takes the rash decision to go and find out what people are complaining about. She arrives to find two brothers running the place, one of which could win the title of Scrooge of the year the other a bit of a playboy.
‘Will’ the Scrooge is a difficult character to understand but I liked his sparring reactions to Sarah, there are some great moments where her feisty side and he clash. Younger brother Ed prefers flirting his way through the guests rather than doing any positive work so Sarah has a battle on her hands to get the ‘Shooting Star Mountain Resort’ back up to it’s glory days and how she remembers it as a young girl. I did feel Sarah was rather immature, although I’m not sure her age was ever mentioned but I got the impression she should have been a little more self-sufficient. However during the book she does mature into a better rounded person.
There is a lot going on with the supporting characters as well so there is never a dull moment. I truly enjoyed the snowy scenes, the huskies, log fires burning etc, all the better for reading it tucked up in the warm so my toes didn’t have to get wet and cold!
No One Cancels Christmas is one of those delightful books that should be on any rom-com fans wish list especially in the run up to the festive season. There is a little bit for everyone included and it is tremendous fun.
Thanks to the author, publisher, netgalley and Rachel at Random Resources. I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Die Grundidee hat mir gut gefallen. Allerdings neigt die Autorin zu ausschweifenden Gedanken, die mit der aktuellen Situation oft nur wenig zu tun haben. Da fällt es schwer, gedanklich dabei zu bleiben.
In "No One Cancels Christmas", a new festive book by Zara Stoneley that brings back some of the characters from her previous novel "The Wedding Date" but is another stand - alone, we are introduced to Sarah, running her aunt's travel agency. Following some very bad reviews of one of their resorts, the Shooting Star Mountain in Canada, that promises atmospheric, unforgettable Christmas but, as it turns out, the only thing they offer are cold cabins and no Christmas tree, Sarah decides to fly over to check the situation. Some of Sarah's most painful, but also most beautiful, memories are connected with this resort. Will she be able to leave her past behind? And to bring back the resort's high and established reputation?
As always, Zara Stoneley presents us with the most gorgeous descriptions of the characters and the setting. I love Canada and it is my biggest dream to travel there one day, and so I couldn't be happier to read a book set in there, and even more during Christmas, and the author has done me proud with her vivid descriptions - I could easily picture the landscape covered in snow, the mountains, the snow crunching under your feet and the sun shining.
The characters were all full of live and they were really easy to like - even though it took me some time to get used to Sarah, to be honest. I think she didn't start in this story too promising, I'm not sure why, I can't put my fingers on it, she just felt too childish for me, but she's developed through the novel and I simply adored her enthusiasm and passion, her spontaneity and her bossy ways around the brothers. Ed has made me feel desperate, though there were tons of charm to him, and yes, I could understand the fascination all the women felt when in his company. His brother Will, the grumpy one, the Grinch, was his total opposite but guys, believe me, you could immediately see that there is so much more to him than meet the eye at first, and I was impatiently waiting to discover what has happened to make him behave like this. He had a great sense of humour, though, our Will, the emails exchange between him and Sarah were absolutely brilliant. Sarah and Will worked together brilliantly but there wasn't this sparkle between them that would make me go weak at my knees and all swoony - I am probably spoiled by reading so many books where the chemistry is so well captured - although I am not saying that it wasn't great. It was, but for me it missed the final touch, and the switch from enemies to lovers happened too sudden for my liking and made it feel a little bit unbelievable.
After Sarah's friends arrived in Canada the story slowed down for me and wasn't as entertaining. Yes, there were still some great and hilarious scenes but it started to feel a little too flat and dragging on, especially the blossoming romance. But, having said that, I can assure you that this book was a fantastic, festive read and it brought me tons of joy - it was one of Zara Stoneley's best stories, to be honest. It was full of romance that felt even more romantic because of the gorgeous surroundings. The writing style was so, so good, easy to follow, light and inviting, so really, the book has it all - festive mood, gorgeous, wintery landscapes, some lovely huskies and cheeky cat, moody and broody men and brilliant winter Shooting Star Mountain resort in Canada, a quirky and bouncy leading character, was full of hilarious scenes and has a depth - what more would you want? Nothing - exactly! Just grab "No One Cancels Christmas" as soon as it's out because I am sure you're guys are all going to love it - it's full of warmth, hope, snow and humour. Recommended!
Copy provided by the publisher in return for an honest review.
For some people Christmas can bring back unhappy memories and that’s true for both the main characters in this story. However, Sarah still looks on it as a magical time of year and is determined that the festive season won’t be ruined for clients of her travel agency won’t have their Christmas holiday ruined by Will Armstrong at the Shooting Star Mountain resort. She remembers a fantastic childhood holiday there with her parents and aunt and is determined to discover why the resort is having such dreadful reviews now. It is the first time she’s returned there, unearthing memories, facing up to the events which followed that holiday and proving determined to help Will and Ed turn the resort once more into a place remembered for the right reasons – even if they aren’t keen on her help! Can she really help them? Can she face up to her own past and help Will move on to a happier future? Will love help them both heal?
Set mainly in Canada, in a mountainous winter wonderland, this is a story with everything from snowboarding, skiing, huskies, hunks, paparazzi, Christmas, blizzards, snowmobiles to secrets, surprises and love. It is great to see how Sarah, Will and Ed’s attitudes and behaviour change and develop through the story. It has characters from other books by this author but still works well as a standalone. Two of the extra characters I particularly liked were Poppy and Rosie – you’ll just have to read it for yourself to find out more about them and to see why I liked them so much. It is a great heartwarming, festive read, just right curl up and read during inclement weather, whatever the season.
I requested and was given a copy of this book. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
If you are looking for a snow-filled Winter tale of love and friendship, then look no further than NO ONE CANCELS CHRISTMAS by Zara Stoneley.
Sarah loves working at her Aunt's travel agency matching the right people with the right holiday for them. But when she starts to receive numerous complaints about one of their most popular resorts, The Shooting Star Mountain Resort in Canada, Sarah is determined to fix it and gets the next flight out. However, she hadn't expected to meet resistance in the form of new owner, Will Armstrong, who appears to be putting the Grinch to shame. But looks can often be deceiving and as Sarah spends more time with Will she begins to learn about the kind of man he is beneath his gruff exterior. As they both try to deal with their own baggage from the past, will a little holiday magic make all the difference?
Fun, festive, and wonderfully captivating, NO ONE CANCELS CHRISTMAS by Zara Stoneley is everything you want in a good romance and more - did I mention that there are sled dogs too!! The characters are warm and really make you feel like you know them and the setting is the perfect place for winter and Christmas cheer. I started this book with the plans of reading a few chapters but found myself sitting up through the night so that I could find out how it all would end, and it was well worth it!! A magical story from an excellent author and I highly recommend it to everyone.
I'm a huge fan of Zara's books, have read them all, so naturally I was super excited to drive into her newest release No One Cancels Christmas.
Well it was a lovely festive light fun read, with great characters, a very adorable dog called Rosie, a fab setting/location of Canada with lots of Snow and lots of Christmas/festivities things going on, oh and plenty of drama from certain characters.
I have to be honest and say that this hasn't been my favourite read by this author, just felt like the story was missing something and as much as I loved the storyline, it all felt a bit rushed in places, think it would have benefited more by being a full length book like most of her previous books.
Despite that it was still an enjoyable read, and there were a couple of moments that had me in giggles and little Poppy, one of the guests was a lively entertaining one for sure.
I absolutely loved the ending to this book, as something happened that I wasn't expecting at all, so nicely surprised there and it was also a little emotional near the very end. As for the ultimate end of the book, well I thought that was very sweet and my heart did a little happy dance.
This is an utterly wonderful story! Although there is a bit of a sad underlayer, it made me smile, laugh out loud, grin the whole time.
This book takes us to a wintery Canada and is about love, friendship, coming to terms, moving on and Christmas, of course. You can keep on living in the past or you can pick yourself up and turn your future around. Although you were sure that having a relationship with no strings attached is what you always wanted, maybe you have another think coming ...
It goes without a doubt that you need the Christmas feel, but is this what it is really about?
It is one of those books where you know from the very first words that you will love it. The author uses a very fluent writing style and she has the kind of humour I totally appreciate.
I, for sure, am looking forward to your next book.
Thank you, Zare Stonely and RachelsRandomResources.
Full of snowdrifts, festive fun and the magic of Christmas, this moving-on story of family and friends is the perfect Autumn read. I'm still basking in happy memories of Zara Stoneley's smash summer hit, The Wedding Date, and I especially enjoyed meeting up with characters from that book again here. It's a lovely change to explore a magical winter wonderland Canadian setting, and the descriptions of the scenery and landscapes are brilliantly evocative. The story unfolds with gentle humour, the characters are satisfyingly drawn, and the writing, as usual, is fab. But it isn't all mince pies and thick slicks of brandy cream – underneath the sweetness there are deeper, more poignant layers with unexpected twists and heartbreaking moments that had me reaching from my Christmas tissues. A brilliant read that left me with heart full of hope, and a need to dash off and plan a trip to snowy Canada. Whatever is coming next, I can't wait for the new book from Zara.
I am a part of a blog tour for this book and received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Rachel, Zara, and Netgalley for this opportunity.
This was probably more of a 3.5 Star. The main character is a little immature in the beginning but she grows up so much. She finds out the truth about her past as well. Will is also going through a hard time. He is just trying to hide out and clean up the mess his brother has made. They find in each other what they are looking for!
Please check out my blog Princessofpages.com at the end of this month for the whole review
Typical rom com, schmaltzy with a warm fuzzy feel good factor read. Lots of dilemmas and misinterpreted situations have this moving along nicely in the typical to com manner. Predictable but not boring and a lovely atmospheric Christmas read with all the snow, hot chocolate, baubles and good looking men fans of this genre love.
Lovely Christmas read - five stars as it has everything it needs to make it complete
A fun and addictive read but I'm afraid there wasn't anything to make it really stand out. I enjoyed it but it wasn't particularly memorable.
This is a sort of sequel to The Wedding Date but as it follows one of the other characters can easily be read as a standalone. There is a little bit of overlap and some spoilers for the first book but given the predictable nature of the stories it's not too much of an issue.
The story is a familiar one and has many of the usual tropes and scenes you expect in a Christmas romance, winter wonderland setting with log fires, sleigh rides and lots of snow, a heroine determined to enjoy Christmas and a grumpy scrooge like hero who seems to hate it (and our heroine). I don't mind the cliche though and at this time of year I'm looking for a happily ever after romance.
Stoneley's writing is good, the characters may be a little stereotyped but they're lively and fun and some scenes really made me laugh. I'm afraid however I never really felt the chemistry between our leads and the romance fell flat for me. There is a strong possibility it was just my mood but I never really connected to either Sarah or Will. I kind of liked them but didn't have any strong feelings either way about them. The development of the relationship between them didn't seem natural to me either. The switch from adversaries to lovers was a little too sudden for me and I actually found myself flipping back through the book to see if I'd missed something. I was however tired and distracted when reading so it could have just been me.
I should say that regardless of any qualms over the romance I flew through the whole thing in a morning so it clearly wasn't a bad read. I'm just not sure it's a particularly memorable one. I will however be looking out for whatever Stoneley writes next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance review copy. This has in no way influenced my review.
