Moinul Hossain Chowdhury (Bir Bikrom) [মে. জে. মইনুল হোসেন চৌধুরী (অব.)] was a distinguished Bangladesh Army officer and diplomat who played a significant role in the country's history. Born in Sylhet in 1943, he joined the Pakistan Army in 1962 and was commissioned in 1964. During the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, Chowdhury revolted against the Pakistan Army and fought valiantly, commanding various units including the 1st and 2nd East Bengal Regiments. For his contributions, he was awarded the Bir Bikrom, one of Bangladesh's highest military honors.

In his military career post-independence, Chowdhury rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Major General and serving as the Adjutant General of the Bangladesh Army. He held several key positions, including Military Secretary to the President and Brigade Commander. His military service was marked by significant events, including his involvement in the aftermath of President Ziaur Rahman's assassination, though he was sidelined during the investigation by then-army chief Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

After retiring from the military in 1998, Chowdhury embarked on a diplomatic career, serving as Bangladesh's ambassador to multiple countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Australia. He also represented Bangladesh as the Permanent Representative to ESCAP from 1989 to 1993. In his later years, he served as an advisor in the caretaker government of former chief justice Latifur Rahman, overseeing the ministries of Industry, Commerce, Post, and Telecommunication.

Chowdhury authored "Silent Witness of a General," a book about his experiences in the Bangladesh Army, and contributed numerous articles to newspapers in both English and Bangla. Major General Chowdhury (Retd.) passed away on October 10, 2010, at Square Hospital in Dhaka after a six-month battle with cancer. His death marked the loss of one of Bangladesh's bravest and most patriotic sons, leaving behind a legacy of military service, diplomacy, and writing.
