Shane is Second to one of the strongest Alphas on the West Coast. After a decade of in fighting and challenges they finally have a good leader, but he still has issues controlling his wolf. Peace and prosperity doesn't calm the storm inside like the human woman Bonnie does.

Bonnie's best friend Amelia is now mated to an Alpha and a wolf shifter. It all seems so surreal and unbelievable Bonnie can't come to terms with any of it. She feels alone in the world until Shane shows her that the paranormal isn't just a bed time story. Now she has to decide if the hottest. most caring man she ever met is worth the paranormal world she never wanted to be a part of.

*This is a steamy MF shifter romance. All paranormal books by Emma Dean exist in the same world - the Council of Paranormals.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Picks up right where book one left off though it can be read as a stand alone. This time we get to follow Bonnie and Shane as they attempt to not end up together. Bonnie has issues with her friends acceptance of this world so easily and Shane has some personal issues to work through. The world building really sucks you in and you find yourself rooting fro the characters to work it all out. Great paranormal shifter romance novel that I highly recommend it to fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

If you don't mind insta-love and too much telling, Broken Wolf is a thoroughly okay read. The leads are likeable but Emma Deen spends too much time with the couple from book 1. And a lot of time introducing us to all of the wolves who will be getting their own books. I have no desire to read about any of them.

Loved this book

Brilliant second book of the series though can be read as a standalone. Shane a wolf shifter knew Bonnie was his mate especially after he slept with her but when the paranormal world was explained to her she stormed out of the house and went home but it didn’t feel right. Shane struggles with his OCD and PTSD but with Bonnie he was a peace his wolf was content and Shane felt better about himself but when Bonnie stormed off he didn’t know what to do and ended up seeing is councillor. Bonnie’s best friend Amelia turns up at her place and talks to Bonnie more about the wolf world sine Shane changed in front of her so she would believe them. Bonnie agreed to a date with Shane all started out well until Shane realised they weren’t alone on the hike he had planned he takes Bonnie back to the pack house where he can protect her but also explain why. Bonnie uses herself as the bait to bring out the shifters that are after them even though Shane doesn’t like the idea of this he loves her so much he can’t lose her. Bonnie ends up saving his life and accepting their mating bond moving to the pack house for now and to Shane’s house.
This is a brilliantly written book how much Shane and Bonnie complete each other ones strength is their weakness opposites do actually attract

Reality at it's best.

I have always enjoyed Emma Dean's book's, especially with her uncanny ability to create storylines that are very realistic within the supernatural realms.
This particular scenario, was right up there with the best of them, when you have a character who has symptoms of a major disorder, who is a shifter no less, it takes a great deal of understanding and research to pull of.
Remember shifters can heal quickly, and don't catch desease"s, so to pull all the detailed background together while running alongside trying to convince his mate they should be together, would be a whirlwind of emotions and never ending stubbornness.
Shane has found himself over the last decade, to be no 2 in the"Blue Mountain" shifter pack, to a number of different alpha's, which creates ongoing fighting, so by the time Bonnie comes into his life, he has become somewhat jaded in his idea's of family and trust, will he ever find his mate and if he does will she accept him with all his problem's, definitely an intriguing thought.
I was taken in completely with the way Ms Dean has laid these events out.
Was pleasantly surprised when the world of Shane's suddenly does a 180.
Grab a copy today you really will find this an excellent read with plenty of depth and reality injected throughout the world Shane lives in

What happens?
Shane is the second of the pack. His wolf is broken and damaged from years of abuse from previous alphas.
Bonnie is Amelia's best friend, who is newly a wolf. When they tell her about wolves being real she doesn't want to believe it and believes the pack are all suffering from delusions.
Final thoughts
I have to say this one didn't sit as well for me as the other. It felt very cultish and I wasn't enjoying it as much as the first.

Didn't like it as much as the first one. Still pretty standard stuff for supernatural romance short stories, but not bad. Just OK.

Picks up right where book 1 leaves off (though you don't really have to have read it to follow along). Bonnie (h) is visiting her friend Amelia at Amelia's boyfriend's (mate's) house, when her friend drops the bombshell that she is now a wolf shifter and will be moving out of the city to live with her mate on his mountain property. Shane (H), the Second in the pack, is just as upset when Bonnie storms off, because he's realized that she is his mate. Can he get her to change her mind, accept him, their bond, all his quirks, and the rest of the paranormal world - all while keeping her safe from a threat to her safety?

I honestly didn't mind the formulaic elements to this one. I just wish that there'd been more time spent on the actual key couple in this story. Could have been three stars, maybe, with a bit more development there. As it was, it felt like we spent a lot of time (for the length of the book) following up on Amelia and Kai, and introducing more of the other mechanics in the pack (future stories, I'm sure). Bonnie and Shane had enough unique elements to them - both independent and wanting control over their lives - that watching how their different coping strategies meshed could have made for an interesting story, especially once the threat to Bonnie appeared. It just felt like they never got enough page time, for what was their own book.

I think one of my biggest problems with this one, though, was the sense of time. They know each other less that a week. Literally, the book starts on a Saturday night and ends before the next week is up. And yet, the leads toss around lines like "she always does" or "he never would" like they've actually known each other long enough to have any sort of basis for that statement. And at the same time, she's fighting the bond because she knows how ridiculously fast it is. So, she's fighting against falling in love within a week, but at the same time, making statements about how "he always makes her feel" yadda yadda yadda. It was a weird mix.

The same skewed sense of time affected Bonnie talking about her friend's change to wolf. One of her first responses seeing Amelia again in town? "Amelia was a different person since the change, but also not. She was just far more assertive than she’d been before getting turned into a wolf shifter." Um, it's been about a day and a half, maybe two, since Amelia told her, most of which they were out of touch because they'd argued. So Bonnie is making this broad statement based on two interactions post bomb-dropping news, but sounding like she's had lots of time to observe her friend?

Speaking of weird wordings, there were quite a number of things that just felt off. They've gone around the garage to tell everyone where the pack is meeting for dinner, then she turns and asks him what he's figured out for dinner. There wasn't anything indicating she was joking or sarcastic - same with his answer, that they were going to one of his favorite places. You know, the place that they just told everyone else to meet them at?? And when she's getting the tour of his house, he shows her an empty room that he doesn't label and says he doesn't know what to do with. She responded with ovary explosions because "Geez, a hot guy with manners who actually cared about her?" because she was assuming the room was "to be a kid’s playroom, an office, or a game room," but mostly to her, a playroom. Those were her assumptions, completely not based on anything Shane had said. To him it was an empty room he had no plans for, but she's jumping to conclusions that it means he cares about her and wants kids. Nothing he said in that tour indicated that!! It was Bonnie being weird and crazy-sounding. These were just two examples, I know, but there were quite a number of conversations like this which just seemed to be non sequitors to the rest of whatever was going on at the time, like the scene got edited around the conversation, but the conversation itself didn't change. That and the weird time line references just gave it a choppy feel.

Some editing issues. A moment of continuity where Shane has brown eyes instead of blue. Lots of comma issues. Unlike usual (at least, it seems for free Kindle finds), the commas weren't overabundant. Instead, they were noticeably absent. Lots of conjunctions without commas, lots of dependent clauses without commas - that sort of thing. Made some sentences very confusing.

Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM issues, no love triangles. Drama is mostly from a human coming to terms with her introduction to the paranormal world (which includes a sudden mate bond and a death threat from a paranormal source). Choppy feel to the timeline and the narrative, and rather formulaic plot left me ho-hum. Just OK. Like the first one, the story just ends HFN. No cliffhangers, but no concrete down-the-road resolution either. Yeah, I'm finding I do like my epilogues.

Would I read more? Why not. They aren't bad, but there are other SPN romance authors I prefer. Still, if more of the series shows up free on Kindle, I wouldn't avoid it either.

Anyone can have OCD

When a handsome hunk fits you like a piece of a puzzle wolf shifter, with his ocd and her off plus need of a family. Both Shane and Bonnie have lost their parents and even with killers out to kill them. Adults only due to violence and sexual content

~ Sex first, many questions later ~

Bonnie’s life is definitely NOT turning out the way she wanted. Barely managing to move on since the sudden death of her parents, now her best friend Amelia is being taken away from her by circumstance. First, she may lose a partner in the publishing house business she was planning on opening with Amelia, and she JUST moved into a new condo. But on top of all that, she finds out that a whole hidden supernatural community exists, and Amelia is now mated to an Alpha wolf shifter. Things don’t end there, though, just yet…Shane, the man she couldn’t resist sampling that one time, turns out to be a shifter himself and claims that she is HIS mate. Now what is she going to do? Story flowed nicely, with both Bonnie and Shane having to work out some mental hurdles before they could see if they suit each other. The mate bond doesn’t lie, however, and it may only be a matter of re-adjusting what they see for their futures. Shane certainly knows who he wants in his life and is willing to be patient until she gives it a try.

Fun read. Love that it’s set in the same universe. Not as well developed as the later books, but still good. Can’t wait to see more from this author.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

This is sooo much better than the first book! The writing is a lot more polished, less repetition and telling, and most of the cliches disappeared.
This crosses over with the ending of first book, starting out with Bonnie and Shane hooking up. I don’t think it can be read as a standalone, but it does give you a lot of information about what happened in the previous book, so I’ll leave it as a solid maybe.
It’s true to its genre, and features insta-love like a lot of them do, but with a mates twist added in, and a bond that can be accepted or rejected. Nothing really out of the ordinary for a shifter paranormal romance, though we do have an MC with OCD and talks of therapy and coping mechanisms, which I really enjoyed being in there to give it a different personality from other wolf shifter romances out there. It’s a great switch off read, and fits into the rest of the author’s paranormal universe.

Wicked way to start a book, who doesn’t love a book with steam.
Picking up from where book one leaves off and realing with the aftermath of book one. Bonnie is trying to come to terms with the paranornal being real while trying to decide if she wants to be part of the paranormal world and accepting a mate bond with wolf shifter Shane.
Shane is the second in command within the Blue Mountain Pack, he has OCD and has to see a therapist to help with his PTSD.
Between both Bonnie and Shane being total opposites and also both suffering with some trouble in the past, it just shows that opposites attract and can compliment each other while also grounding each other.
This is a good shifter romance. I am looking forward to the next instalment.

Terrific book about a human and a broken wolf

Shane is a wolf with OCD and PTSD, second in the command of Blue Mountain Wolfpack, and has fallen for Bonnie. Bonnie is a editor of publishing books visiting her friend Amelia. Amelia tells her that you can't come back because she is now a wolf shifter. Shane tells her that she is his mate. Can Shane and Bonnie find their mate bond?

The fast-paced drama delves into the world of the Paranormal written by this author. The characters are unique, relatable, and enduring making this reader once more.

I highly recommend this book.

Her best friend is leaving her. How could she do that? And now she says they are wolf shifters? Bonnie just isn’t sure how to handle all of this. And then add in Shane. An amazing man and hot as hell. I love that the story allows the two to have time to see if this is really love. And how she is able to handle and understand the problems that Shane has and only sees him as perfect.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Solid 3 stars. I liked Shane, Bonnie was... I don’t know. I thought I was going to like her, she seemed to have some backbone and a level head but frankly I hated the way she’d feel one way/say one thing, and then basically disregard herself and go on. The conflict between her and Amelia was, simply put, completely useless because it literally did nothing for the plot. She be mad/hurt/upset and then almost immediately be back to everything being fine. It was a difficult book to finish.

Great story, but needs a proofreader

This story has something most PR tales don't - a couple who definitely will be working on how their relationship works, long after that final chapter. And I like that! Gives a real life feel to this love story. Could use someone to tweak sentences here and there, to correct grammar/rework sentences for better flow, and fix a few other problems. But the story itself is Solis, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

This is a sweet, and steamy hot shifter romance - Shane and Emma, both broken from past experiences, find love and acceptance in each other. This book has suspense, action and romance. It´s a sweet and enjoyable story with lovable characters. I received this ARC as a gift and I am voluntarily submitting this review.

Ok read. Nothing particularly spectacular about the book. Bonnie is introduced to the paranormal world once her friend Amelia hooks up with Alpha Kai.

There’s insta-lust with her mate Shane. Of course there’s the problem that someone wants to hurt Bonnie.

I expected more character development. Maybe I’m expecting too much since this is short read.

This is a cute shifter romance with some serious issues discussed in the story. Bonnie doesn’t accept Amelia’s sudden change to be with Kai but what will she think when Shane proves to her that wolf shifters are real? More so that she’s his mate?
I enjoyed this story, plot and characters. Some angst, lots of romance and hot moments and overall a really nice shifter series so far

Beautiful wolf flaws and all

Enjoyable read. The main reason is because I absolutely loved Shane. He was flawed and had his issues but he was still sweet. You don't often hear about these type of problems with shifters. It's super hard to hear about his past and how that affected him. Glad he got his happy ending.

Shane was broken from all the drama in his past BUT Bonnie will be his salvation and future. She doesn’t see him as broken but acknowledges his OCD and PTSD and just lets him do what he needs without being obvious. These two are combustible in the romance department even if he calls her “harpy”. Great to see familiar faces from book one and I look forward to the next books.

This was an ok book. I do have to say I was more hope with it. Shane and Bonnie met when she went to see a friend who was staying in la Grande. After a night of a party and passion she woke up to a nightmare. After leaving her friend and LA Grande, things didn't go well. Shortly there after Shane came to prove to her that he was a wolf. In the end love always finds its mate.

Nice paranormal romance.

I liked the story and the characters. It is a slightly different version of a wolf shifter scenario but it has a good story and a little danger along with romance and a definite HEA. The main characters are very easy to like.

So sweet!

I love that Shane calls Bonnie his stubborn harpy. It sure fits her to a T! He is OCD with PTSD because of ten years with some really nasty Alphas. She refuses to believe in the paranormal. Let the games begin! This is so worth the read!

A pretty good story. But I could not stand the h. I really can’t get into books that the h is so over the top “independent” and just comes across as an a-hole. If she was less so, I would have enjoyed the book.

The second book in this wolf shifter series told from another of the pack members couples' views.

Set in her Council of Paranormals world it is not an out of the ordinary PNR story but is easy to read and follow without reading other of her stories.
