The magic of the ancient dragons cannot be ignored. Learning he’s descended from the ancient Deshazl, those once known as the Dragonwalkers, has changed nothing for Fes. He continues to serve Azithan and the empire, even after deceiving them. The ancient Deshazl magic lives within him, but Fes doesn’t know how to control it or even if he should try.
An old nemesis approaches him with a job he can’t refuse, and he’s forced to head toward Toulen. When betrayal separates him from from a friend in need, Fes must begin to understand how to use his Deshazl magic. If he can’t, not only will he lose his friend, but innocent people will suffer.
With a growing magic within him, Fes questions not only the nature of his power, he’s forced to make a choice between these new connections and the empire.
Fes is a man who tries to meet his promises, and he had promised Theole that he would look out for his young daughter Indra and now that a fire mage had hold of her he was damned if he would not save her and make sure she returns to her home in Toulen in one piece. In order to do this he had to embark on a journey with Carter, his old enemy and thorn in his side, and the same fire mage, Elizabeth who he did not trust as far as he could through her, as well as her stone golem. Fes had already fought the golem and found him to be quite invincible so when betrayed by Elizabeth he knew he had to follow them towards Toulen, because Fes knew what they were after. If only he could accept who he really was and embrace the powers he had, however Fes though often told lately that he was Deshazl, and that he had a strong link to the dragons, he could not accept this and kept attributing his powers to the dragonglass daggers which he carried. Azithan, the other fire mage he usually worked for also betrayed him and Jayel by taking the boy they were trying to protect. So in this book Fes had two promises to meet and he would do his damnedest to meet them both, but who else would he have to betray in order to make sure both kids were safe? He had already gone up against the Empire, sold a fake relic to Azithan and might have to do so again with the rebellion. This book is jam packed with action and magic, people betraying one another and fighting for power, and it is very satisfying seeing Fes coming into his own powers as he slowly starts to accept who he really is. Cannot wait to start reading book 3 of this very intriguing Dragonwalker series as I am sure Fes is going to evolve into a power like no other!
A thief and a killer with ethical values, who knew such a contradiction existed in the fantasy world of the dragonwalkers? Fes promised Theole a merchant he met only two times to take care of his daughter Indra and Carter, the mercenary with the unknown sponsor, who tried to kill him and is responsible for Theole's "dissapearance" has abducted and used Indra as a bargaining chip, to get Fes on board with whatever she wants. Yes! You can see the many plot holes in this huge contradiction already no? This fantasy novel series started really weakly. But the second volume just makes things worse. It's as if the novel series is not really moving or going anywhere. At least not anywhere the reader knows. With no main plot arcs and secondary arcs as shoddy as I'm a thief and a murderer for hire, but because I promised this guy I barely knew to take care of his daughter, I'm going to keep my promises like an "honest politician"...well, is not really credible and does not hold up on the B.S. scale. This second volume has close to 300 pages, with 27 chapters, we still do not know much about the main characters, or about this world that committed genocide on the Dragons. It seems Fes is a Dragonwalker, but without any training, without any knowledge from his past, his special abilities are almost non-existent and the author without a proper plot compass, well, this novel series could end up anywhere. Probably with resurrecting the Dragons, but who knows? This series has 7 volumes, ended in 2018. Because author takes about two months a volume, well, it lacks luster, polish and has a lot of plot holes. Sad, because it could have been a good fantasy novel series.
I thought I had read every kindle unlimeted dragon story book there was until I found this set. Book 2 like book 1 has an ending that makes you want to read more but it's not one of those awful cliff hangers where they are trying to force you to get the next book. There is a big story and books 1 and 2 were about that I'm the background but there were also smaller stories written into each book that did come to a sort of conclusion. I finished both books feeling good, not ripped off. I think this writer is amazing. His creativity manages to blossom and present ideas pertaining to dragons that are new. There's lots of good vs bad with some middle of the road so my idea of who's side I was on changed until I decided I'm on the side of the reluctant hero-of sorts. Yes, I would read this book again, Yes, I would buy this set for my home library and Yes, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to everyone, teens parents, grandparent, I feel this would apoeal. It's fun, exciting, lots of action. I loved the series up to here. Going to read book 3 right now! :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :) :D
I like the book. It's not my favorite type of book, not having a female protagonist, but it is still pretty good. Fezarn is independent to almost a painful degree. He listens, he learns, but doesn't believe in much. This is the 2nd in the series, and Fes goes through some exciting adventures on his way to becoming the man (?) he will become. He accidentally (?) goes up against a powerful fire mage and her pet while on a mission for his patron, Azithan. He's making powerful enemies and friends which will shape his life for years to come. Who & what will Fezarn be at the end of his Hero's Journey? We find some interesting hints in this book, along with some great reasons why he won't commit to any one faction. And boy howdy, did I quickly lose track of how many factions there are! Hopefully all will be revealed in the 3rd book. I do recommend this book to others. I'm just not thrilled how male-centric it is. Personal bias, and all that...😉
I use to read a lot of the authors books but he got to long winded...I read the first book of this series..and thought ok ..maybe he changed it up....the second book is like all the other books he wrote way to much ' I'm not this or that"...everyone of his main characters always don't want the gifts they have!!!....I know it's a book...but for me I would love to have special powers but not his main character...all ways the same no matter which book you read of the author...and it takes 2 or 3 books for the main character to embrace it....this book is ok..but I will not read anymore of his story's
Dear D. K., another entertaining and wonderful story in the continuing series. I don't know how you authors come up with such fantastic plot lines but I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Fes is an interesting and imaginative character and I look forward to seeing what he will be doing next. I highly recommend reading this book to anyone interested in reading a great story. Thanks for the entertainment and creativity.
This was also another great story . It was engaging as well as riveting. The dramatic textures of the characters were excellently developed. I liked the action sequences it kept me on the edge . Kudos again to this author wonderful and vibrant story telling abilities. Recommend highly to our readers.😇
The world is starting to fill in for me, starting to make more sense. There still are explanations that seem to make sense to the characters, but are fairly meaningless to me. I simply push past the confusion and continue on. The main theme of the story is interesting and I'd like to see hope it plays out.
Intrigue within intrigue, within intrigue. D.K makes Perry Mason ( look him up) seem like a toddler trying to stuff a rattled in his mouth. It just never stops. The man is a genius, plain and simple. Will Few find the dragons, his true identity, will be fine out who he really is & will Indgra grow up ?
The story centered around Fezarn continues. Again I will not review the story. You need to read this series & of course this book. We see great powers used by different peoples. Great battles & fight scenes with magic,Deschazel, the “calling” new characters & finally ?a dragon, now really!
Like som many of DK Holmbergs books the character suffers consequences from his lack of actions in unbelievable circumstances. He kills left and right in defense and infiltrating a camp but refuses to kill the one baddie who constantly crops up and is identifiable. Its stupid and follows over from other series by DK Holmberg that I've had to stop for the exact same reason.
I though just maybe I might have been wrong with the first in this series when I reviewed it. Well I wasn't was just as boring as the first. Oh what's with the covers? One word "Bad" (that is pitting it nicely) springs to mind. You always tell how good a book is by how long it takes me to read it. 2 days at most. this well bad.
While Fez is adventuring he runs into a whole host of people but he keeps in mind that he needs to protect the one person he can, he loses several along the way but feels the need to protect one. Which leads to many new problems along with a golem. He now has to contend with all these things at once. He is learning what it means to be Deshazl. Can not wait for the next book.
This was an awesome book! I love the action, magic and dragons. I also love the fact that I only have to wait a month for the third book. Wish other authors were like this.
I liked this better than the first. I do wish Fes would choose wise and try to understand where he comes from and embrace it. It would be nice if someone would explain it to him, Can’t wait to read the next book.
I enjoyed the 2nd book in this series. I read a lot of fantasy, this is the first series by DKH I have started to read. His style will keep me reading this eventful story about Fes.
This book builds quite nicely upon the strong foundation of the first book. Fes finds out more about his Deshazl heritage and faces more powerful foes. There were a few great twists in this one, and Holmberg's style was readable as always.
Never a dull moment. Action and suspense around every corner. His love life is a bit confusing but so is his ancestry. But I'm sure as the story unfolds more will be revealed.
Excellent following of all characters. This reminds me of some of his earlier works I have read! Not always easy to completely follow, but worth it as his story develops with an occasional twist!
Every time I think I have every situation figured out, I find out that I am completely wrong. If you want to read a series that keeps you on the edge and keeps you guessing what will happen next. Read this series!
Fee is up to his eyeballs in intrigue. An entertaining book, a little to conflicting for my tastes. I wish that Fezran would make allies on a more permanent basis. I can't wait for the dragons to return.
Amazingly well written series, I became very invested in the characters and couldn't wait to read the next volume. At first glance a series 7 volumes long might seem daunting but I was soon snatched away into the world of Dragonwalker and couldn't put each volume down.
This is one of the best series that I've read. And I've read a lot of books. Finally a series that doesn't depend on sex to fill the pages. I hate the slow burn romance crap.
Stayed up all night to finish this book. I felt loo like I was right there feeling the heat of fire mages and the magic in the air. Can't wait for the next book.
This book needs a good editor. Grammar errors, repetitive information and seems disjointed. However the storyline and idea is creative, so I continue to read.
