Reyley's life hasn't been all cupcakes and rainbows, dealing with a crazy homocidal mother, a messed up social life and finding out you're something that isn't even part human, it'll mess anyone up. With the help of four sexy guys to help her through her transition from unsuspecting human to kickass hybrid, the discovery of her powers, and learning to deal with a strange love life, her entire life is turned upside down. Join Reyley as she journeys through the ups and downs of her new life. This is a Reverse Harem, One girl, Multiple lovers. Due to some scenes of a sexual nature this book is not suitable for under 17 years. Possible trigger warning due to the events from Reyley's past, present and future.
I was so looking forward to this book i downloaded it when it came out at midnight and immediately started reading it. I hated it. Seriously I've read and liked this author before so it was a huge surprise.
The only reason I'd give this book a 2.5 stars is because I liked the concept of it and the editing was fine. It was the execution and characters that were horrid.
There was a lot of fade to black scenes (I don't mean sexy times), for instance she's upset and the guys take her out of school then the next sentence is her reacting to being told they are demons, but we didn't get to see (read?) The convo, another instance she's on a date kissing one of her guys then the next sentence is her waking up from a nightmare. Almost the entire book is like this!
Now onto the characters the FMC everytime she's embarrassed, upset, mad, blah blah blah she runs off, she even gets kidnapped after running off once and by this point I'm kinda just rooting for the kidnapper to do away with her. Then there was the, oh the guys will hate me if they know this stuff, um if they love you they should support you..
The guys, I had hope for them but they kept brushing off her concerns, one of the guys even told her not to worry her pretty little head about something. The last straw was when she was in a coma for 6 weeks and one of the guys got a girlfriend in that time, seriously just what the heck...
The only time I had any liking or respect for anybody was about 80 percent of the way through when she yelled at the guys.
And the end yeah that came out of the blue. It was like how do we finish this book up in two pages...
I feel that if about 50 pages were added (through the book in different places) and the characters were worked on (so you kinda weren't hoping they'd all die at the end) this book could be really good, like I said the concept (plot) of the book was interesting.
This book jumps all over the place and major plot points are glossed over. Don’t even get me started on the fact that Do yourself a favor and read the Veil Diaries instead.
I'm not going to judge this book too harshly because of reasons, but I didn't finish it because it was very confusing. It was very lumped together, one minute she is at her house and the next minute it's weeks later in the same sentence.
So, first off this is a very unique and interesting story. It's got a creative perspective on the whole angels and demons genre. I have Kindle Unlimited, so I was able to read it for free, would I buy it? Probably not. But I do plan on reading the next one. It's not terrible but it's so fast paced I was left with a little whiplash. There's a lot of action and not enough character and plot development. It felt more like a first or second draft and not a completed manuscript, though I will say grammar whise there wasn't many typos.
Now there are spoilers in this next part of my review, so if you haven't read the book yet I wouldn't continue reading.
As I said before, it's extremely fast paced. I felt like one moment we're being introduced to the guys and the next we're learning they have powers and they're suddenly all best friends. There wasn't much character development in between, I didn't feel like I got to know any of the guys that well. We also didn't see enough of Jade to really know her or even feel sad over her loss. There was also parts that were a little confusing. One moment Liam is shifting back to human, the next sentence he's still a tiger. Later he's a wolf. There powers are all over the place. Once I thought I had a clear idea of what they were and the next there was something new to them. Reyley is a little overemotional at times. Like I understand some of her reactions but other times it feels like she's overreacting just to cause drama. She supposedly loves all of them but doesn't trust them. She runs away in the beginning because she wants to try to be normal when she already knows that she's not normal. As far as plot development it felt like a rollercoaster. Where was this council at when her father was trying to take her? And Hannah's involvement was confusing. From what the angel said she was left behind to monitor all of them, and yet she didn't know about Reyley? I find that a little hard to believe. And then instead of monitoring them she supposedly starts dating one of them. She also went from demanding Reyley gone and acting like she didn't know her to trying to kill her and basically showing she was jealous of all the demons wanting her, which implies she knew about her the entire time. So, I was really confused about her character. She also said she pretended to like the guys, so what was she aiming for? And then it's never really talked about afterwards. Did Reyley just forgive Liam without addressing the issue? And then near the ending, the demons show up demanding the hybrid. How did they know where she was? I find it really unbelievable that she managed 17 years without any issues and as soon as she meets these guys her foster mother is killed and she's constantly on the run. I really liked the idea here, but I think it could've used some polishing and more character development.
After reading over 30 RH series I consider myself an expert of sorts.lol. This book was just mehhh to me. I was not in love with this RH. To be fair I think RH are hard to write because you need to get the guys relationship with the girl just right. And my fav RH are the ones where the guys and the girls develop a REALLLLLY strong friendship first.
I liked how the guys were mostly protective and caring for Reyley throughout the book.
This is one of many demon rh books I read lately, so on originality it is not there. As for Reyley the MC I liked her at some points and she annoyed me at other parts. Same part for the guys. Some parts I liked them and other times they act like ass's. which I guess its a good thing because insta- love in stories can be annoying. Like it seemed odd how when Reyley is in some kind of mystical coma that Liam starts dating someone else for 6 weeks????? They all thought they were bonded to her, but yet Liam has no issue with dating someone else.
Also I got annoyed with the time passages. Like she gets knocked out alot and can't wake up a few times and is out for a while. I forget actually, but idk some things with timing just annoyed me.
Also, as this is called Reyley's 8- I assume that this RH is going to be 8 guys?????? For me I like when RH have under 5. I think when you get to 8 its like overkill sorta like that CL Stone book that people for reasons I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND LOVE. Its one of the worst RH in my option. My fav is THE VEIL DIARIES. READ IT.
Anywho.... despite not loving this series. I am willing to give book 2 a shot when it comes out one day. I think it does have the potential to be something great. It just the 1st book in this series did not wow me.
This book was strangely written. The beginning was good and everything moved along organically. Then all of a sudden, it’s skipping through time. It’s like plot on fast-forward. She goes from having one power to having EVERY power ever. There is a short explanation as to why but everything is moving forward so fast it just gets glossed over. Her relationship with the guys starts out okay but then it all turns into an unfocused mess. The girlfriend thing with Liam, why was that even in there? It didn’t advance the plot and Reyley starts out angry then seems to forget. I liked where this book was headed but it should have been broken into 2 or 3 books. I do enjoy this writer’s other series so I know she’s got what it takes to write an awesome book. This book wasn’t it though.

I liked the story the plot and idea was great I also loved the characters. I just wish the scenes were developed better. It almost like this is the Skelton of the story rather then the fully developed ready to be published version. I felt rushed through each scene rather then sucked into the story which was disappointing since I usually love these kinds of stories. This story has so much potential but u feel like it wasn't ready to be read until each scene could be fleshed out rather then jumping from scene to scene almost like an information dump. So I give 2 stars for character and plot. The rest needs more work.
I really went into this book with great expectations since the premise of it sounded intriguing. However, I was sorely disappointed. The writing made the book hard to follow, but with proper editing I think I would have given the book a better rating. I found the book predictable after the first few chapters and had to force myself to finish it. I kept hoping the editing and storyline would get better but it never did. I will probably read the next book just to see if anything improved, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope that it will.
This was a good start and had a good story line. However, it was confusing with all the jumping around it did and the story line didn’t flow smoothly. Also, is it just me, or did that whole Liam being with someone else 2 weeks after she went into her coma just get swept under the rug way too easily?!?! Over all, I enjoyed the book and did read the entire thing but I did have to go back and re read some spots to try to figure out what was going on.
Wow erm... first of all you need to read this book and make your opinion it’s not bad, I hated giving this book a 3 the storyline alone on its originality should of given it a 5* but well tbh there was plot holes all over and In some cases missed out completely it wasn’t just fast paced it was rushed was such a shame too because I could of seen this being a best selling series.
So, overall readable, but I do wonder if it's a new author or a new style. The story comes off disjointed and a little disappointing. Story will pick up great and then all of a sudden it's a brief overview of time passing with very little detail. It makes large gaps in the storytelling. I was actually enjoying the book for the most part until it just became frustrating.
I hate writing poor reviews. This story could have been much more as there was potential. The author just couldn't pick a direction to go and stick with it. Also is was poorly written. Every sentence/ paragraph/ chapter just bled together. I had to stop and reread just to see what I missed. This was just a no for me and I can't say that I'm even interested in continuing the series at all.
The story is great but not very well thought out. It jumps all over the place and will leave your head spinning. It could easily be expanded into an amazing trilogy if the author took a little time to fill in the gaps. It feels like the story was taped together with sticky notes.
This story itself is great and has so much potential! I've never left a bad review before and I feel really bad for doing so now, but the whole book felt incomplete to me, and not just incomplete because of it being book 1.
Love this book. Yalu Taylor's is an awesome author. I really like the story full of excitement and sexy men. The mc she is coming into her own through our the book. I hope book two comes out soon!
There is alot going on in this book, some part were way to fast. Lots of action between angels and demons. I loved all the paranormal aspects of this book. Looking forward to more of Reyley's story.
Ok well I don't even know what to say. It goes from one thing to the next for no reason. Random things happen that make no sense. You don't get know any of the characters. I mean what?? Editing isn't bad but wtheck??? This book is completely confusing.
Omg. I really tried to stick it. I got to 91% of the book and I just stopped. This novel had potential. I felt like a yo- yo. One moment the book was going one way and then it went into another direction. I really tried and I almost made it to the but I couldn't.
