This Navy SEAL is putting his life - and heart - on the line to protect a woman on the run, but her dangerous secret threatens to destroy them both in this high-octane novel that proves.

I'm a Navy SEAL and a member of the elite Night Eagle Security team, so you better believe I take every one of my missions seriously. But this one is different. I'm protecting Frannie - she's beautiful, fiercely independent, and on the run from her criminal ex-husband. I know he's dangerous, that he'll do anything to get Frannie back. But there's no way I'll ever let that happen...

Trouble is, I can tell Frannie is hiding something from me. Something big. Since she barely got away from her ex alive, I understand that she's wary, but I can't help her if she doesn't let me in. And no matter how badly I want a future with her, I swore I'd never allow myself to be with someone who doesn't trust me. But when Frannie's secret comes out, I have to decide whether her betrayal is enough to make me walk away...or if I'll protect the woman I love no matter the cost.

*3.75 SYRUPY SWEET STARS*

Yeah, overall this wasn't a bad book, it just isn't the best I've read in this genre though.
The romance between the leads felt an awful lot like insta-love to me, and the trouble at the end was resolved way too quickly in my opinion.

The romance felt sickly sweet, but I loved both leads individually! Kick-ass female and swoon-worthy hero right there!

Received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is my new favorite by Diana Gardin.
Thorn Ryder’s Job is to protect Frannie. Which at first he didn’t want to do.
Frannie is hiding from her husband, Eli Ward and Ryder has to protect her and he will do everything he can to keep her safe.
Loved this book so much. Protective Alpha males and suspense and brotherhood are my favorite things in a book and this one had it all.

Ryder is a romance that grabs readers’ attention and holds them hostage with thrilling suspense. Ryder and Frannie are strong characters that easily pull readers into their story as Ryder tries to protect Frannie despite the fact that she’s holding back information that could potentially make her situation worse. There is lots of sizzling chemistry and pulse pounding heat that flows between this Ryder and Frannie as they try to fight their attraction and there is lots of emotional turmoil flowing from the pages due to the situation and Frannie’s past which adds a realistic feel to the story as it progresses ensuring that the readers stay engrossed in the story.

Anticipation and thrilling suspense builds throughout the story keeping readers on the edge of their seat while adrenaline pumping action and danger adds excitement. Surprising twists keeps readers guessing right alongside the characters and readers can practically feel the tension building in the story as it occurs for the characters. Readers that love protective alpha males, the comradery and support of a team working together and or heroines that will do what they think is best when it comes to family won’t be able to put this story down until they have read every last word.

The search for Eli Ward continues. He wants his property, his wife, returned to him and he is willing to do pretty much anything to get what he wants. But there is one almighty roadblock in his way - Ryder and the Delta Squad!

Ryder felt an almost instant tug towards Frannie, the former Mrs Francesca Ward. He knows she was not involved in her husband's nefarious schemes but now she is also his protectee, meaning all the feelings he may or may not have for her are going to have to be buried.

Frannie enjoys her work at the hospital and her former husband is not going to take it from her! She gives Ryder a run for his money in the stubborn stakes. This former victim now has a spine of steel and a couple of guns as back up. She will no longer rely on anyone but herself to keep her, and her secrets, safe.

Great story and superb characters. There were more layers to Ryder than an onion and Frannie...wel she is something else. The length that woman will go to for those she loves is infinite. I'm really hoping the supportive Lobelia gets her own HEA!

NOTE: I was given a digital copy of this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review. May Contain Spoilers…

This book was so much more feels than I anticipated. I guess I forgot what a good romance could do to you. Also, once again I have read a book series out of order (LOL don’t worry, I tend to do that with romance novels). I don’t know if I just didn’t see that this was book two but believe me, I’m going to read book one… and after that probably all her other books.

Let’s start with the facts:

· You don’t need to have read book one to read this one.

· It starts off fast (like page two fast).

· It may contain some triggers (domestic violence, slight implication of miscarriage, drug overdose). ~As someone slightly sensitive to one of those triggers I was fine but that but please know that that may not be the case for everyone.

I am a very character driven reader and I have to say that I love the interactions/relationship between Frannie and Ryder. They challenge each other in all of the best of ways, and I love the family they are able to construct. I loved the little sneaks of Ryder’s squad and the little snips of their interactions with Frannie.

“Bain turns towards me, eyes my gun, and an incredulous expression crosses his face before irritation quickly follows. “You know I’m here to protect you, right?””

The pace of all the action was great, it seemed fast in the beginning while you are still trying to learn the characters and what the situation actually is, but you will be thankful for the pace when it all goes down. I was on the edge of my seat and my heart was pounding so fast. LOL, I forgot that books could do this to ya.

There may have been two grammar errors as follows, if so, I hope they are able to be corrected for the actual release:

· “They quicker they catch Eli…” Chaper 11

· “Don’t. I need to get me out of him. He shot at us…” Chapter 13

Overall, I completely fell in love with this story and the characters. This was probably my first ever military/protector type romance and I’m happy to report that it did not disappoint.

I was gifted an ARC for an honest review. And, let me say, you do NOT want to miss out on this story!

Diana Gardin is a phenomenal writer and I've enjoyed everything she's written so far, but THIS, this hit every note just right!

It has action and romance in perfect balance. Frannie and Ryder are fantastic together and their chemistry, YOWZA!

What would you do to protect yourself, and your family? A better question - who is, and what makes up a family? Would you do anything for them? Would they do anything for you? What happens when the person you should be able to trust in the most abuses that trust? Can you come out whole on the other side?

Ryder and Frannie have to address these questions, while learning how to trust each other, and it isn't easy. We learn more about the NES team as well, while we're rooting for Frannie and Ryder to come together.

Family. It's all about family. The one you MAKE.

Ryder's job is who he is. It is the air he breathes. Until he meets Frannie and thoughts of her consume him. Frannie has to hope that Ryder and his team can keep her safe until they round up her evil husband and put him away. Until that happens, her secret will have to remain close to her heart. She can't bring herself to completely trust Ryder, no matter how much she wants to. As they spend so much time in close quarters, they give in to the attraction. As Ryder shares his secrets and his heart, Frannie knows he can be trusted. Unfortunately time runs out and its too late. Will Ryder be able to forgive her silence?

Diana Gardin is a goddess, there I said it! This series has seriously impressed me with each book I devour. With that said, I have to say that Ryder is hands down my favorite. I don't know if anyone is going to be able to top him. This man is sex personified! Strong and sweet, with a heart that is battered but not broken. Lets not forget Frannie; she is amazing. Strong, brave and capable; she is Ryder's perfect match. The tension builds the longer Frannie keeps her secret and has to remain in hiding. Several parts had me so anxious that at one point I had to put the book down and shake off the nerves. I will be counting down until the next Delta Squad book releases. To rank this book with only 5 stars is a crime. Ryder surpasses 5 stars, he is a straight up 10!

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to be honest... I can't read this. I dnf'ed it before I even reached 50%. Could not handle it.

I heard another book by this author is awesome so I wanted to give her a go. Kind of regret not going with the recommended one because this one was superficial and thinly veiled as a suspense romance when really it's more like an erotica with short sex scenes and bad dialogue (sorry!!!).

I thought this one would tackle the serious subjects raised such and domestic abuse/violence. Instead what I got was a bodyguard having sex with his client within, what, one week of knowing her??? Not very professional. And she doesn't act like a woman who has spent years taking physical and mental abuse from her husband.
And the dialogue....guh.
Mess is less messy if we wade through it together.

maybe if he carries you...

Anyhow, this book...I'd call it more of a erotica. The dialogue was lacking, stilted in places, and full of cheese and proclamations. I thought the dual perspective would be interesting and new, but instead you just get two times the unnecessary and awkward internal thoughts.

The beach scene, which I think is supposed to enforce the idea that Frannie is BORN to be a nurse, was unnecessary and lacking. She literally did nothing but turn him on his side and talk until the ambulance arrives. And why is she hiding things from her bodyguard???

Ryder...I'm not sure how he is actually a bodyguard. Particularly when he sits in the staff lounge while Frannie runs about the ER, which is hardly secure, and obviously bumps into trouble. If her husband is so rich and desperately wants his trophy wife back, how could he NOT track her down at her busy work place???? Honestly...

I couldn't do it.

Loved this action packed romantic suspense which is the second book in the Delta Squad series. Ryder Thorn just made me sigh with all his yumminess! His current assignment for Night Eagle Security is as a bodyguard to Frannie. Her abusive, criminal husband is determined to find her and bring her back home. He'll do anything to find her. Ryder's sole job is to prevent that from happening. Two problems. First, he knows Frannie is keeping something from him. Second, he is deeply attracted to the woman. When they finally give in to the passion Ryder knows after just one night that he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Job or not. Will her secrets tear them apart??

I have to say I hated the hole that was left when the story jumped from the prologue to the present. I thought for sure I had missed something. Nope, that's how the author designed it and as I read the story and the situation unfolded I was glad for it. She hooked me with that prologue and I had to know what happened! Kudos Ms. Gardin. I highly recommend this book.

"Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review"
I liked another title (“Just Like Breathing”) by Diana Gardin, but this was a disappointment. The author tackles serious matters – for example, domestic violence – and that’s remarkable, but the instant attraction and sex – lots, lots of sex – between a bodyguard and his client like it is the most natural thing in the world, the overuse of telling, the first-person dual POV with its usual propensity for dramatic and cheesy utterances and proclamations aren’t among my favorite dimensions in fiction.
I also didn’t think Ryder was that efficient or convincing as a bodyguard/former SEAL or Frannie very smart (hiding her secret in such conditions seemed a bit stupid).

It is a story of family, friendships, heart break and betrayal. The premise is real, raw and engaging; the romance is captivating and intense; the characters are energetic and colorful but I struggled with the heroine’s constant need to remain independent in spite of the struggle and ongoing threats against her life.

Really loved this story it touches on some important subjects of abuse but also that you can come through that if you have someone who will fight alongside you.
I loved Frannie she is truly a strong woman who put her babies safety before her own. It must have been hard to give up a baby even when u know it's the right thing to do. Ryder was there to support her and in the end they both came out with a new family and friends there to help when needed.

It's hard to put this book down! This is probably my favorite from Diana Gardin. She keeps getting better with every new release. The only reason I have it four stars instead of five is because of some of the predicability. As soon as you are introduced to Dive you know that Eli will know about her and take her later. There are enough other twists though to make up for it. I highly recommend this book, and all by Diana Gardin.

Ugh!!!! I am in love with this book! It was amazing! It's so heartwarming! I love Ryder and Frannie's story! His job was to protect her from her psycho husband and she's not what he expected! The damage that was done to both of them in their past is heart wrenching. Trust, love, honesty, a little blood shed, and secrets revealed. A must read!

Back and forth

I hate it when a writer does one chapter as one person and the next as the other person. Usually I delete the book right away. I almost made it a third of the way. IF the writer could have decided who she wanted to write as it would have been a good book. Top bad.

Ryder is the second novel in Diana Gardin's Delta Squad series, but it's also the first novel I've read by her, and while I didn't think that my not reading the first book in the series detracted too much from this story, I'm guessing the main characters in it were introduced in the previous installment and I wish I'd read the first novel before reading this one. Nevertheless, I found this to be a very good read and am giving it 4 stars.

Told in alternating narration, something I love, we first meet the heroine, Francesca (Frannie) one year in the past. She's at home and goes outside to pick up a package from the mailman, a onesie for the the 3-month-old fetus she's carrying, eager to show it to her wealthy husband, Eli Ward. As Eli comes in the door, she approaches him happily, excited to show him her purchase, but he immediately accuses her of flirting with the mailman, and regardless of the fact that she's carrying his child, he nearly beats her to death, and, as we soon learn, this isn't the first time. If domestic violence is a trigger for you, consider yourself warned.

We next meet the title character and hero of this novel, Thorn Ryder, a former Navy SEAL, who is now working for Night Eagle Security, and he isn't at all happy about the assignment he's being given--"babysitting" their new client, Francesca, who has refused to go into the Witness Protection Program while the authorities are hunting for her evil, abusive, and controlling husband, Eli, who is searching for her but has gone into hiding, while making it clear that he wants his wife (his property) back. Even though Francesca moved across the country, changed her name, and tried to start over once she was well enough to travel, she is working as a nurse in local hospital to pay her bills, but sources are aware that Eli is now in the area, hence the need to hide and protect herself. She's also got a secret that she absolutely refuses to disclose to anyone, and although Thorn is immediately attracted to his new client, he needs to know as much about her as possible in order to protect her, but Frannie stonewalls him for most of the novel.

Thorn too has secrets in his past, and he's not willing to disclose them either, and because I've always been drawn to tough, broken, and brooding heroes, those who are hiding their pain behind that wall of toughness, Thorn was an easy hero to like. Since this is a romance novel, the mutual attraction between Thorn and Frannie was expected, however the heat generated by these two characters and the number of times, places and sexual positions Thorn and Frannie engage in was a bit over the top for this reader, not because of their graphic nature, but because of their frequency, which always indicates to this reader that these scenes end up becoming a way to stretch out the novel without adding much forward momentum plot-wise.

I liked Frannie's independent streak, her toughness, her taking boxing lessons, and her learning how to use a gun to protect herself, admirable. However, I also found her serious, surly and stubborn behavior toward the man charged with protecting her, utterly ridiculous, dangerous, and just plain dumb. Knowing that her crazy husband is out there looking for her, what does Frannie do? She leaves Thorn asleep in the safe house and sneaks away. She does have a valid reason for doing so, but her getaway clearly endangers not just herself but two other characters, and no, I won't spoil it by telling you who they are.

As soon as they met, I expected these two characters to bond, and bond they did, and just as I also expected, somewhere along the way, Eli was going to discover Frannie's secret and her whereabouts, attempt to abduct her, punish her, and try to take control of her again, and those elements and the suspense involved led to an exciting denouement, although, once again, Frannie's behavior, her choices, and her rejection of Thorn's attempts to protect her didn't win her any points from this reader.

As a devout reader of romantic suspense novels, I love knowing that there's an HEA ending awaiting me, and I did like the way the epilogue gave us a look into this couple's future together. All in all, I found this novel to be an enjoyable and suspenseful read, with well-drawn characters, and despite a few of the flaws I mentioned, I plan to follow this series in the future, and backtrack to the first installment of Delta Squad too.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

••••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--RYDER is the second instalment in Diana Gardin’s contemporary, adult DELTA SQUAD romantic, suspense series focusing on the elite Night Eagle Security Team make up of former military personnel and Delta Squad Navy SEALs. This is Navy SEAL Thorn ‘ White Wolf’ Ryder, and ER nurse Francesca ‘ Frannie’ Phillips story line. RYDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading book one-Lawson-for backstory and cohesion, where Frannie’s story begins. The DELTA SQUAD series is a spin-off from the author’s RESCUE OPS series but you do not have to have read the previous series to follow. Some of the characters from the Rescue Ops series cross over for familiarity.

NOTE: Due to the subject matter, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ryder and Frannie) RYDER follows the building relationship between Navy SEAL Thorn ‘ White Wolf’ Ryder, and ER nurse Francesca ‘ Frannie’ Phillip. Months earlier Frannie Phillips, a victim of ongoing domestic abuse, found herself on the run, in the hopes of escaping horrific abuse. Fast forward to present day wherein, Frannie, now struggling to stay one step ahead, is secreted away by the Night Eagle Security team, to an unknown location as the FBI, police and NES hunt for the man who destroyed her life. Enter Navy SEAL and NES security specialist Thorn ‘White Wolf’ Ryder, and the man with whom Frannie will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Frannie and Ryder, and the potential fall-out as betrayal, secrets and lies place Frannie and Ryder in the direct line of fire.

Thorn Ryder is a man of many secrets including a devastating loss, and a passion to help those unable to help themselves but ‘babysitting’ Frannie Phillips comes with too many complications including the desire and palpable sexual attraction that exposes the couple to potential conflict. Frannie Phillips knows pain and suffering, love and loss but meeting Thorn Ryder gives our heroine hopes for a second chance but Frannie keeps hidden a secret that if revealed could ultimately destroy any chance at a happily ever after.

The relationship between Frannie and Ryder begins as a working assignment. Ryder is contracted to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love; Frannie’s often times TSTL (too stupid to live) attitude threatens her safety on more than one occasion. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are reintroduced to Navy SEAL Lawson “Sleuth’ Snyder and former police detective Indigo Stone, NES boss Jacob ‘Boss Man’ Owen, and Delta Squad security team Bain ‘Bull’s Eye’ Foxx, and Ben McBride; police Sergeant Russ Walker; Frannie’s best friend Lobelia Novak, and Frannie’s soon to be ex-husband Eli Ward; Lawson’s sister Lilliana Snyder, as well as young troubled teen Nevaeh.

RYDER is a story of family, friendships, heart break and betrayal. The premise is real, raw and engaging; the romance is captivating and intense; the characters are energetic and colorful but I struggled with the heroine’s constant need to remain independent in spite of the struggle and ongoing threats against her life.

Disclaimer: ARC received in exchange for an honest review

Diana Gardin is back with Ryder, her newest novel and the second installment in the Delta Squad series. Ryder is a fast-paced, action-packed tale that brings closure to storylines introduced in Ryder’s predecessor, Lawson. In this book, Gardin crafts an exciting conclusion to the Night Eagle Security team’s efforts to bring down Eli Ward, while delving deeper into characters Thorne Ryder and Frannie Phillips.

The couple is thrown together by circumstance when Thorne is assigned to protect Frannie during the manhunt for her evil almost-ex, Eli. Much like so many of Gardin’s previous military-man protagonists, Thorne Ryder is another brooding, broken tough guy who uses his private securities position as a distraction from his emotional damage. But where Thorne Ryder sets himself apart from his brothers-in-arms is in his accessibility; he wasn’t as closed off as some of the NES guys, and his grief and emotional baggage were more accessible to readers, especially given the broad reach of the drug epidemic in today’s society.

While many aspects of Frannie’s character were teased when she was introduced in Lawson, Gardin was really able to make her shine as a female protagonist in this book. Frannie tended to be infuriating in this novel. She was stubborn and strong-willed, occasionally to the point of stupidity, keeping secrets and withholding crucial information from Thorne. She had a habit of frustrating the reader, but she was still exciting and endearing because, in many ways, Frannie differed from most of Gardin’s civilian heroines; she was proactive, fiercely independent, and unrepentantly self-reliant. Early on in the story, it was established that she wasn’t going to wait for some man to save her. And although this stance made Frannie a unique female lead, she ultimately still succumbed to being rescued by her protective detail-turned-lover.

While the story itself took some unexpected twists, it still had a formulaic cadence to it, sticking to the blueprint Gardin has laid out in many of her previous novels. There was situational coupling, an endangered female protagonist, and an emotionally distant ex-military hero who has to come to the rescue. But even despite the conventional approach, Ryder was definitely a satisfying read. Still, I wouldn’t have minded something that deviates from the script a little bit more.

Also similar to some of Gardin’s previous works, the coupling of Frannie and Thorne had a slightly instalove-y quality to it, accompanied by some not-so-convincing protestations from the soon-to-be happy couple. Though the overall timeline of the relationship was lengthier than the coupling in some of the other novels, I still would have preferred a slower burn, a bit more build-up to the onset of the relationship.

The epilogue was the best part of the novel and really serves as the best example of Gardin’s skillful ability to write beautifully executed romance; it was the defining moment that really sets Ryder apart from previous books. It was original and captivating, perfectly wrapping up Frannie and Thorne’s journey to happily-ever-after.

If you’re a fan of the suspenseful romance genre, you won’t be disappointed. This book, and many of Gardin’s tales, are the perfect escape from reality. Ryder will have you on the edge of your seat, frantically flipping pages, and swooning from cover to closing.

Touching and Intense!!!! Wow

This was such a well written book that kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time! Already a fan on Ms. Gardin’s writing my expectations were high especially after reading Lawson book 1 in the series.
In the second book in The DEALTA SQUAD series the intensity starts right from the Prologue.

"The writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shocking moments."

Authors Blurb: I'm a Navy SEAL and a member of the elite Night Eagle Security team, so you better believe I take every one of my missions seriously. But this one is different. I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Frannie and Ryder, barely acquaintances before they are thrown together in an unconventional living situation. Frannie is in hiding and Ryder is there to protect her.

From the start you can tell that there is something there. Although neither one of them can put their finger on, there is this intense connection that they can’t deny. Both Ryder and Frannie are guarded but for different reasons…this caused quite a bit of inner monologuing. Back and forth confused over their feelings but just under the surface was a fire waiting to be released.

“Something in my soul calls out to something in hers, and it’s a goddamn moment. Unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.”

Their relationship happens fast and out of no where…0-60 and wow did I have to fan myself off. Thorn and Frannie just click, they just work even in this awkward situation of protector and “damsel in distress” <—although Frannie is anything but that…she is one KICK ASS WOMAN!

“…there’s something about Thorn Ryder that speaks to my soul, way down deep inside me. In a place I keep hidden.”

What I loved the most about these two is that they are both natural protectors, Ryder through NES doing all his security jobs and Frannie as a nurse. They both want to help people which is why they were so perfect for each other. Both broken and in need of someone to pick the pieces. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat with it’s thrill aspect and will have you begging for more between the sheets from these two ;)

This is my first book by this author and I can say it definitely won't be my last! This is book 2 in this series and I read it as a stand alone and understood everything that happened in it. This one is about Thorn Ryder and Frannie Ward. Ryder is tasked with keeping Frannie safe from her husband until he can be caught and tried for his crimes. What neither realize is that their meeting and being thrown together will change the course of their lives. Can Ryder keep Frannie safe, especially when he doesn't know the major secret she is keeping? And once he finds out, will he forgive her? Or will he let that push him away forever?

I absolutely loved this book! Frannie is definitely one of the strongest women you will ever read about! He husband put her through absolutely hell and misery, and when her parents won't help to protect her? She makes the decision to protect herself by any means necessary. And I love that about her! She was strong to know that he was never going to change and eventually what he was doing would kill her, and she took the steps to make sure that didn't happen. Ryder is a man with his own demons but he has a heart of gold. He will do whatever it takes to protect people, and if he decides he cares about you? He will go even further! I loved every minute of this book complete with the ups and downs, and I once I started it? I couldn't put it down! An excellent read!

"I'm tough on my own, Ryder...but I think I'm even stronger with you."

Oh, these Delta boyz have me swooning!!! Big, tough, alpha men with a heart as big as the moon!!

Frannie Phillips thought she was safe. She thought he wouldn't find her. Well, at least not this fast. After realizing that her abusive husband is the now at-large ring leader of the exotic car theft ring recently busted, she's now under the protection of NES, specifically Thorn Ryder. It's that or WitSec. Not happy about either, she reluctantly chooses Ryder. There could be worse things than being guarded by a tall, muscled, sexy man. The more time she spends with him, the less she can deny the attraction and whatever this is building between them. But, she's keeping a secret. A big one. One that can never come out until her soon-to-be ex is caught. But, betrayal and danger are lurking around the corner and she can only hope that Ryder get to her in time. If not, she's dead.

Thorn Ryder in on babysitting duty until that scumbag is found. Not that he minds. Frannie is drop-dead gorgeous. The attraction is clear, but the mission is temporary. He'll protect her with every fiber of his being, no doubt. But will he be able to walk away when it's over? When he learns of her secret, is it too late? Can he save her in time? He never thought he could feel like this about a woman, and now that he's found her he could lose her forever. Not on his watch.

Oh, Ryder. I think he's my favorite. There is so much more to him than he lets on to his buddies. It just took that one special woman to unlock his vulnerabilities. I'm not going to spoil anything but look for the wings in the story - look for the gesture that is so big, you won't be able to stop yourself from saying "Awwww" or "Oh my God!" out loud while reading. This is only my second read from Ms. Gardin and I can't wait for Book 3!!

Ryder by Diana Gardin is a romantic suspense novel that will have you biting your nails and looking behind you because the foreboding sensation is strong as all get out!

I enjoyed Ryder for the most part, the suspense was on point. The abusive, ex husband on the lose after evading the law, attempting to get back this his wife, whom he treated more a trophy and property rather than the woman he loved.

Ryder is the second book in the Delta Squad, it can be read as a standalone, although there are clearly things hinted at that happened in the first book in the series, as well as a possibly another series that overlaps this one or this one spins off from.

The story line had me sucked in from the beginning. It was intense and jarring. I often felt like someone was watching me while reading this book and I even had creepy dreams after reading it, which tells you a lot about the story.

My issue with was the romance side of things. If felt incredibly rushed and forced at times. I did feel the sexual tension, but things move from a level of lust to love without trust and faith in each too quickly for my liking. If inst-love is your thing you will probably deal with this better.

The fact that their was a major secret being kept really hurt me because I think it was a terrible decision on this characters part and I wanted to scream. Perhaps, that was the intent of the author but gah! I was frustrated.

Over all Ryder is a great suspense read filled with steamy bedroom scenes that will turn you on.

Thorn Ryder has retired from the SEAL’s and joined the Night Eagle Security team. When he is assigned to protect Frannie Phillips, he feels as if he will be babysitting instead of actual security duty. He is soon disabused of that notion as Frannie has an out of control, abusive husband who wants her back. When she was Francesca Ward, married to Eli, she thought her dreams had come true…until the first time he hit her. After a particularly brutal beating, she calls 911 and removes herself, and their unborn child, from his life. As Thorn gets to know Frannie, who is an emergency room nurse, he begins to fall in love with this strong and capable woman. Her husband is on the run as he is being investigated for various crimes, but he still is looking for her. Frannie has secrets that she has not told Thorn. What is she hiding? Domestic violence is an extremely difficult topic for a romantic suspense story, but Ms. Gardin handles the story with hope for the victim, to get away from the abuser and to claim a better life. But there's no way I'll ever let that happen.
I enjoyed the story. I liked both main characters and the story. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I absolutely LOVE the NES guys. It started with the Rescue Ops team and Delta Squad is just as addicting. This is Wolf's story.
Ryder's heart as been broken since he was a young 20 year old. Burying his hurt and heartache deep, he moved forward the only way he could. Now years later, after the SEAL's and a year and a half into his NES tenure, he gets put on point for the first time with the team's latest case. Little did he know just how vital it would turn out for him.
Frannie has been through hell and back. We first met her in Lawson's book when she hinted to the secrets that would eventually bring her to NES for help. She is a spitfire, she is wholly independent and doesn't like the idea of being under the watchful eye of Ryder. Rightfully so, she has trust issues.
Action, suspense, tension, heartache and heat, this story has it all and then some. If you haven't read any of these yet, grab them. They are each stand alones, but I'd suggest reading them in order.

Thorn shows Frannie how a real man loves!

Frannie is on the run from her abusive, criminal husband. NES is tasked with protecting her while the local PD conducts their manhunt. Thorn Ryder is assigned as her bodyguard, and he's quickly impressed with how prepared she is to protect herself from ever being abused again.

To say Frannie has trust issues is putting it mildly. She's got secrets - big ones - and she's going to do whatever she can to protect those she loves. Even if that means aiming a gun at or assaulting the man she's falling in love with.

This is a complex story that gets right to the heart of the matter. Thorn readily puts it all on the line for the women in his life, and he's exactly the kind of hero I love to read about. The heart-stopping action kept me glued to my kindle, right up to the glorious HEA. I loved every bit of this story, and can't wait for the next visit with our favorite NES heroes. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
