On the roof of a high-rise building, a young girl named Yuri witnesses a masked figure split a man's head open with an axe! It's not exactly an everyday occurrence for a high schooler, but things only get weirder from there. Yuri soon finds herself in a strange world of skyscrapers with only two options for escape -- fight past the mysterious masked figures or leap to her death!
28/10/20 Pretty good! Such a bizarre premise -- very intriguing in my opinion. After reading this, I think it would definitely look awesome as an anime (especially the action scenes!) -- looking forward to seeing that next year! :D
* A shame that there were panty shots in this one -- it's rather disruptive and definitely doesn't enhance the story.
Oh hey, look. I found another entry into the totally rare and not at all popular genre, isekai!
😒
Unfortunately, this one is kind of dumb. Girl wakes up in a high-rise building where the stairway to the lower floors is blocked off and the only way to go from building to building is via a suspension bridge. Before she even figures that out though she's chased by a masked man with an ax. So she has to stay alive and figure out a way down or out of this "world." It's revealed late in the volume that the masked men So those are the two options. Just what is the point though?
The artwork is adequate, although sometimes the way Yuri is posed is really strange (or angled in a way to show gratuitous panty shots).
I have a feeling this is going to be a series I keep reading because it's fast paced and the premise is just weird enough that I want to know what's going to happen and why things are the way they are ... but I'll probably hate myself for continuing on lol.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I liked the premise and the setting of the book. Unsexy pantyshots and terrible anatomy to show of butts/boobs are a total mood killer and any horror or seriousness it has is erased by it. Usually I overlook them if the story is interesting/ pretty enough. But either the translation or the writing just wasn't good enough. The MC isn't appealing either. The writing/translated version I was reading made her sound so flat and inhuman that I can't like her at all.
Oh wow, I think I discovered a whole new manga to love! This one is scary, mysterious, has scary guys in masks, people who are stuck on high-rises, and much much more. The art is also pretty OK.
Sorry, I would write more but that will have to wait until Vol.2, I just need to continue, this volume ended on a cliffhanger!
I wish this book is thicker, like Tokyo Ghoul. I've read this online up to chapter 134. It's full of gore and fan-servs, but the premise is good and the flow of the plot is also good. It'll get more interesting later on.
(Entire series) I can’t say it was great, but I’m intrigued enough to read the sequel. I just really want to know what happens after that lackluster ending. Overall, there are better survival manga but it was better than Future Diary, waaaayyyy better than Future Diary.
(The sequel bc i’m too lazy to go find it) Wtf... it’s like fanfic set x years after the events of the original with an eye thing that reminds me of another manga I’ve read. I just wanted more of Yuri and her girlfriend and her brother and the sniper who could, we got a hint of Yuri but what we’ve seen makes no sense with her original character whose goal was to literally end the thing she now runs. On the bright side, the art’s nice and the dog is definitely adorable.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of fan service, which I find a shame because the story is very interesting. Aside from that, I find this book truly captivating, and I can't wait to read the sequel. :)
I would rate this series as quality trash. You know, the kind of thing that isn't well written or really that good at all, with obnoxious ecchi scenes, eye-rolling repetitive dialogue, and brain-dead stupid characters whose reaching theories end up being right most of the time only because the world building is so damn simple, but has a bizarre enough premise with enough intrigue to keep you entertained if you're in the right mood. Like, I wouldn't eat this trash, but it's not so rancid that a racoon wouldn't see it as a 4 star meal. That kind of trash.
It's like Mirrai Nikki with skyscrapers and masks. Too much bloodshed and a concept that is interesting. Art is just great and characters not yet introduced properly.
Do un 7 all’inizio della storia e 6,5 a disegno.
A fun mashup of The Backrooms and Die Hard. This girl Yuri finds herself in an alternate dimension that seems to consist solely of skyscrapers, bridges, and strange masked killers, and a few other normies seem to be in her same predicament. I really like the setting, it's pure liminal goodness, you've got recognizable and developed civic infrastructure, but almost completely devoid of humans. That's vaporwavey. Feels a bit like Exit 8 but on a broader scale. Yuri is aware of the isekai trope so I do wonder if there will be a worthwhile explanation of the world or if it's just a weird alternate universe that exists "because isekai". It's easy to start a compelling mystery but ending one in a satisfying way can be quite tricky. We'll see, but for now it's an enjoyably mysterious and compelling world. The artwork is fantastic with an incredible sense of architectural detail and some truly vertigo-inducing angles. There hasn't been much breathing room to flesh out Yuri herself, but she seems like a driven and determined character.
The vocab and grammar are all pretty simple and yet this has some good sentences structures that I understand in Japanese but wouldn't directly translate well into English. I liked that I could make sense of a sentence that boils down to "Me and my brother won't become someone's 'just as planned'". It's clunky in English but it reads super well and sounds cool in Japanese. I like reading stuff that's easy to understand like that but still would be tricky to translate, it feels a little special. The way she just says "いや" a lot is punchy and to the point, but if you we're doing it in English it'd start to feel clunky writing "I don't like this" or "no good" over and over. It's stuff like this that makes you appreciate getting to read something in its native tongue because that's the best place this kind of dialogue can actually work.
I watched the anime like a year ago on Netflix and it was entertaining but not much else. I rewatched a bit recently and I was suddenly in love with it and needed more so I purchased the first 6 volumes. I really enjoy the interesting premise and looooooved the relationships and friendships. Definitely has become one of my new favorites and can't wait to read what happens next!
Ever think about how it felt to fall off a building when you gaze down? This manga used that as a plot. bunch of people suddenly appeared inside a building and the only way to go is to the top. At the top of those buildings, await mask murderers with one order. To kill you if you don't kill yourself (by falling off the building). You can runaway to other buildings by bridges made of rope or some fragile constructions. And you can survive if you kill the mask murderers. I've read a lot of similar plot like this, I think I'm going to be bored out but I didn't. The mystery is still there. What is that place? Why buildings? Why such rules? The only thing irks me is that many fan-service here, otherwise it's a good manga worth reading. Unfortunately, with this gore pictures and many fan-service, I don't think this manga will be continued here.
Premise is interesting. I’m so curious as to what’s about to happen with the plot. But why can’t authors just write good stories? Why are women so sexualized! It’s fucking annoying. And she’s not even a woman she’s a child! Why do we need so many panty shots?
When you’re creating a story you need to think who is this for. Why is this needed? Because why was any of the panty shots needed? Who was it for? The author is a woman. Does she honestly think it’s ok for 16 year old girls to be looked at like this by men? Does she not have a daughter? Does she not care about herself? It’s fucking disgusting.
I’ll keep reading in hopes the fan service goes away and that we move onto the plot cuz I don’t give a shit about a naked teen girl. I picked up the book because it sounds incredible and it’s ruined by fan service.
Really not sure about this books... weird premise, a school girl awoke at the top of a skyscraper with somebody getting killed and after the killer run after her. Not way to go down accept jumping to your death (the killers won't kill you if you jump...), only way to move is go on bridge connecting if building). So it's brutal killing and heroine pantie most of the time, typical manga where they find a reason to make killing acceptable (like Battle royal).
But you don't the reason why is the world is like that even after the third books... guess I will learn something if I keep reading... they wrote at least 20 books so some stories must exist. The author did a good job with the Ajin stories so I still have hopes this is not just killing and sexy manga
5/5 This was a fast and fun volume of horror/action manga. Yuri wakes up in a skyscraper with no way down to the ground level. She’s being pursued by a psycho in a mask. She manages to reach her brother on the phone who says they are in some other world full of skyscrapers. He tells her to stay alive and he will find her.
Yuri meets a few other people along they way more masks and more victims. There’s not many answers in this volume and that’s fine it’s still frenetic, sexy, and violent and I’m down for that. Some people may not dig the fan service but fans of horror and action manga will probably get a kick out of it. Reminds me a little of the manga version of Battle Royale.
A “mask” on the cover of volume 1.
Read 10/24/2023 Manga of the Month pick for The Manga Squad October 2023
The main girl soo annoying. She kept calling her brother oni-Chan which made me uncomfy. Whenever she almost dies, I just want her to actually die.
And let me just tell u how much I hate the fan service on this manga. There’s too many panty shots on a 16 yr old girl.
So I’m gonna give this a 2/5 stars bc the only thing I like about this was the maid girl and the sniper guy. Literally the only reason why I bought the manga.(and also the gore but there was barely any, which sucks)
What do you mean this was written by a woman?? Who had a gun to her head. The artist is a man so that explains it but we truly do not need an upskirt shot every 2 pages to tell a story about murders. I fucking hated it. It's so disappointing 'cause the story could have and probably is really cool, but the incessant and graphic fanservice ruins it as always. I own the second volume so I will read it, but whatever inklings of good story there are isn't worth it for the shit on page.
Series had a promising start with great potential, when reading the series for the first time you can definetly tell that a lot of thought and heart went into the series but they were running out of time. A cancelation of the series let to a extremely rushed ending (literal blocks of texts) causing the reader to feel unsatisfied with their experience near the later volumes.
