When Maverick warned the Heads of Clans that the humans were up to something, he had no idea how right he truly was. With the dragon's morsels and pets looking to level the playing field, it's only after he's captured that Maverick discovers the sinister plan the humans have in store for his dragon shifting brethren. The beautiful Addison is in charge of the research but her lab partner, Eric has a more diabolical goal in mind. Once Maverick is captured and brought in, forces beyond their control force them to rely on each other forming an unlikely bond in an unlikely place. Maverick's scales aren't the only thing being tested as his heart begins to open up for the nurturing doctor whose charitable nature is bound to get them both killed. Love takes a cliff dive as Maverick tries to rescue himself to warn the others of Black Harbor of what's coming. It's a journey of love and discovery as Maverick and Addison grow to appreciate each other for who they really are. But will they do enough to save their love and their lives? From the Ashes is a stand-alone book in the Black Harbour Dragons series. A guaranteed HEA, no cheating and steamy scenes intended for a mature audience.

This one was a little better than the first. While I hated the beginning, it did end up getting better and kind of good. The storyline is still disjointed like the first was at times though.

Maverick is second in command of his clan and he's worked hard to get to that position. He knows that the humans are up to something and when there's a clan meeting, he puts this out there wanting to crush it before anything can come of it. When Preston vetos that until they have more proof, Maverick is sent to take care of this "problem" discreetly. Turns out, they should have listened to Preston because he walks right into a trap and is taken down before he can even do anything.

Addison has been working on a way for the scalers to become fully human by experimenting on volunteers. Turns out, not all of them are happy to be dragons. Are they crazy!? She honestly has good intentions with her work...something that cannot be said for the one she has to work with. When Maverick is dragged into her lab unconscious, is when she starts to realize that she can longer stand to work there.

Eric is the psychopath that Addison works with and he is a vicious and terrible man. He takes Addison's work and weaponizes it. Killing a dragon in a horrible way and then setting his attention on torturing Maverick with a new gas he has developed to see what happens. Addison is determined to save Maverick and they barely make it out of the place.

I liked getting to see Aya shifting and learning a little more about her. Which, as it turns out, all of Addison's research was based off of Aya's work already available for those who don't want to change. It's a harsh thing to swallow when she learns that instead of helping the dragons, she instead has provided a means to wipe them out.

Leading up to the ending, actually wasn't that bad. But the very end was another eyerolly one. I really don't get why Maverick and Bart are all huggy and shit. They never showed anything remotely to being that close, no matter that Maverick was Bart's second.

Another thing that I didn't get was that we were told that Maverick worked hard to get to his position, then we're told all he really wants is a peaceful place with a family. So why would you become a fighter? BUT THEN at the end he says he never thought he was a family kind of guy. Which is it!?

BUCKLE THOSE SEATBELTS!!!
You're in for a wild, thrilling, exhilarating, steam rolling ride that you never would have imagined taking. Chase holds nothing back in this maddening plot that has so many twists, turns and unexpected surprises in a whirlwind of activities and danger that will captivate from the start. The characters were intriguing, realistic and believable. With personalities that can change in the blink of an eye from friend to foe without missing a beat. An instant attraction that has sparks flying with an off the charts, explosive chemistry. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in ground zero with them. You have it all in this nailbiting, nerve racking, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping read with all the suspense and danger hot on the characters heels. Following the characters as they discover just how many are included in this tantalizing and thrilling storyline that holds your attention until the very last word was an amazing journey. Chase did an incredible job bringing this read together brilliantly. Great job Chase, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.

This is a intriguing, suspenseful book and I really enjoyed reading it.
This book is about: a dragon shifter (Maverick) who tries (& succeeds) to escape after being captured, so he can warn his brethren about this place but there is some problems. He is falling for a female doctor (Addison) while another devious doctor (Eric) has some terrible plans.
What you will find in this book is: dragon shifters, a secret laboratory, drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, experiments, evil, serums, threats, memories, ultimatums, deceit, betrayal, attempted murder, conflict/fighting, vengeance, destruction, unwilling human trial participation, delusions, manipulations, revenge, death, a haven, lust, passion, love and a steamy scene.
The story-line and plot is well thought-out and written. The characters have personality with emotional feelings of revenge, fear, needs and desires. I would recommend this book.

The humans want to regain their dominance after they were taken by the dragons as pets and are stirring things up. Instead of doing some recon, some dragons go on the attack. Addison is the unknowing scientist working on a formula to aid the cause. Maverick is a captured dragon who is put to use testing the formula for its effectiveness. Yet all is not as it seems as Eric, a colleague of Addison’s, is taking things a bit too far. Can Addison realize what is happening before it is too late? Is Maverick going to be subjected to incessant testing or will he be able to free himself? This is one intense story that demonstrates the lengths one will go to as long as the cause is just. The chemistry between Addison and Maverick is combustible. The author has penned a storyline filled with suspense and danger that will have your heart pumping until the conclusion.

Dragons vs Anthros

Addison is a scientist working on a cure to keep dragon shifters from shifting so they can live a normal life as an Anthros. Only Addison was trying to find the cure for the dragon shifters that wanted to be normal, and Eric the other scientist she worked with was going to use the cure as a weapon.

Maverick is a dragon shifter who gets caught by Eric and a soldier named Shaw. Not wanting to be normal Maverick gives the scientist a hard time and tries to escape, only making it worse for himself.

While Eric is being an evil scientist and trying to hurt Maverick, Addison realizes her dream to help willing dragon shifters is no longer the main goal. She decides to help Maverick, and only then do the two realize the need and want for each other.

I like the story and found it entertaining but didn’t really feel a lot of chemistry between the two. I also felt like the ending wrapped up way to easily and quickly.

"DON'T PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD " HAS A DIFFERENT MEANING HERE! 4.5 stars.
Happy ever after comes after many trials. Learning to accept another species and find love there is a big ask.  Then add being Experimented on by the very scientist your attracted too, then being kidnapped by the other evil mad murdering scientist is just too much for a scaley to take. Lots of non stop adventure here in this second book of the series. I realy enjoyed it after reading book 1 therefore knowing some of the characters and storyline. the price is certainly affordable.

Different

This was my first time reading a "shifter" book. It was different, good but different. I thought that the characters were strong and independent. Addison and Maverick had an undeniable chemistry from the start. The descriptions of the dragons were vivid. I enjoyed reading this book.

This is Maverick and Addison's story. I really liked Maverick, he is a strong demanding, yet caring alpha male. Starting out, I thought Addison was a strong female lead, but as the story went on she became a touch weaker and didn't appear as smart as she started out. So, she was a bit of disappointment for me, but overall the storyline carried on the series and has kept my interest. Can't wait to see where we go next.
