Destination Love #4

After the Rain

Rate this book
Some opposites attract; some rip each other's clothes off.

Stormy-Rain and Marcus could not be more different: she's a free-spirited, rainbow-haired hippie; he wears a suit and over-shines his already too-shiny shoes. She believes in auras; he's governed by logic and doesn't believe in Fate. But Fate believes in them...

So what happens when their worlds collide - and they are forced to embark on an epic road trip to catch a plane to a wedding on the other side of the world?

The clock is ticking...and they're seriously ticking each other off. But Stormy and Marcus are about to discover just how thin the line between love and hate really is.

Having read all of Jo Watson's books so far, I have always been intrigued by Stormy Rain who is one of the bigger friendship group, and has struck me as wacky! Now in After The Rain I get to know her a whole lot better and she is quirky but so so loveable. She has so many endearing qualities to her, which not everyone can see.

And Marcus, is a lawyer and about as opposite from Stormy Rain as you can get, and he has promised that he will accompany Stormy to Prague for the wedding they both need to attend. Only Stormy is petrified of flying and things are never as simple as they should be.

In fact I should warn you don't read the first 15% of this while you are on a plane, I did and I'm a confident flier but even I was getting a bit worried partly as I hit turbulence at the same point as certain happenings in the early chapters.

Simmering away beneath Stormy Rain and Marcus' hilarious banter is some explosive sexual chemistry and wow those were some fabulous scenes. The sex in this book is fabulous and then there is the scene in the helicopter that is so clever.

I love all the unexpected turns this trip took when one simple journey turned into something a lot different.

This is another fabulous story from this author, who I am continually excited to hear about new books from!

Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

It starts crazy, it gets crazier and ends on the same note. Stormy Rain is a breathe of fresh air, a rainbow after a hurricane or storm and believes in fate while Marcus is ruled by logic. Polar opposites who at first think it is only sexual attraction drawing them to each other. They do many things they would not have done without each other and it is fun to read about. No book can be boring that features Stormy Rain.

This is the story of two people who are complete opposites getting thrown together on a flight to a mutual friends wedding. All sorts of issues and problems arise and the fun loving hippy type mixed with an uptight lawyer was an amusing read.
The random acts of sexual tension which weirdly lead to some embarrassing situations( getting caught by other people situations, i thought was a bit cringe😖) were not really needed. Without that i actually really liked this!

Stormy is so straight to the point and sometimes a little vulgar which is a bit rough round the edges and the complete opposite of marcus. They constantly argue then have sex lol. They way they act and the things they say are quite funny to be fair.
Then slowly they share their feelings and melt towards eachother❤.

I laughed a good few times reading this and i would look to read another from this author for sure. It had a good mixture of sillyness, humour, sexual attraction and kindness.

I wasn’t sure about this one to begin with. The characters are so polar opposite and extremes that I wasn’t sure if I could like them, but the more I read on, the more I grew to like them, and even love them by the end!

This book was so cute and sexy and had quite a few laugh out loud moments too.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually laughed so much at a book before 🤔

The characters were both really remarkable , I loved the heroine's funny sayings that was a really great touch and gave the book that slight more fun feel but not too much to draw away the attention from the emotion. I really liked the plot, it was fresh and new. The author's writing has a really nice even flow to it, which made it easy and quick to read. I found myself smiling a lot, my mate even remarked at one stage that it looked liked I was in love because I was smiling so much, so always a good sign. I will also add that the opening pages were a little slow for me, it took me till about page 8 to get really hooked. I am off to start the next one. Great work!

Not going to lie, I really disliked this book. I honestly felt myself not caring in the least what was going to happen. I could not connect with the characters and just generally felt annoyed the entire time I was reading it. For me, this was just not a winner.

Out today in the UK and only 99p!!

I adored every single thing about this book. "After The Rain" was an opposites attract kinda romance that melted my heart and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart. Jo Watson has once again delivered another novel that I fell head-over-heels in love with.

"I adore you"
"You do?"
"I'd be mad not to."

There were so many things that I enjoyed about this novel. I absolutely loved Stormy-Rain. She was such a fun character. I loved how she was always putting the wrong words into familiar phrases, making me giggle. Stormy-Rain had a huge amount of love and kindness for everyone that she met. This girl and an enormous heart. She truly made a wonderful heroine to root for. As for Marcus, I loved the development of his character. How he changed from someone who appeared to be the last person I would have put with someone like Stormy-Rain, to a man that embraced all of her quirky ways and fell crazy in love with her.

"Up until this moment he'd been living in monotones,
and now everything was full color, Bright, explosive, dazzling color
and he didn't know if he would ever be able to go back to beige again."

The progression of this couple's relationship was something that gave me so much joy. They had so many hilarious adventures together as they attempted to get to Prague for a wedding. It reminded me a little of the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles", only with a lot of steamy sex thrown in. I especially liked the scene in the lift. That was smokin' hot! Another thing that made the story so brilliant for me was the most perfect epilogue that I swooned my way through. It contained everything I wanted to read from the final chapter. I also enjoyed catching up with Lucy and Damien from "Burning Moon" again. But, if you haven't read any of the books from this series, it really doesn't matter because it can also be read as a standalone.

"This perky, cake-covered, rainbow-haired woman standing before him-
she was his perky, cake-covered, rainbow-haired.
And God, he loved her."

As you can see, this book just made my month. If you one-click this one, you are in for a delicious heartwarming treat. After the Rain gets my first (and possibly only) five stars of the month.

Although romance is not my usual genre, I found After the Rain to be an engaging, racy read.

Jo's writing style is wonderful and the story of Stormy-Rain and Marcus's budding love affair moves at a breathtaking pace.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an easy-reading romance seasoned with a sprinkle of comedy.

This is yet another case of "it's not you, it's me". I loved another one of Jo Watson's books so clearly it isn't a fault with her writing, her plots or her characters... but something about this one just didn't gel with me and I found myself feeling a little gloomy whilst reading it because I just couldn't get into it.

Maybe this specific set of characters didn't do it for me - the main male character just went on a little too much about her "strange" appearance and some of the things she blurted out just... didn't sit well with me for some reason. But as usual with Jo Watson, her writing is fabulous and the premise is outstanding. I just don't think I'm the right fit for this book for whatever reason. Maybe after I've thought about it for a while I'll be able to pinpoint why, but for now I can't. But I would 100% recommend it because the premise is fabulous and the execution is great! It just didn't work for me personally, but I have no doubt that this would be a hit for other people.

Scrolling through my kindle, I came across After the Rain by Jo Watson, a book I had sitting on the kindle for a wee while. This book I had mixed feelings about as I absolutely loved the character Stormy-Rain in parts and then other parts it was like seriously, enough already. After the Rain starts with Stormy-Rain's best friend calling her to tell her she is getting married. The kicker though is it is in Prague, which means Stormy-Rain must fly and she has a strong fear of flying. Stormy-Rain though won't be alone on the flight as her friend's fiancé’s friend Marcus is also flying on the same flight. Stormy-Rain and Marcus are complete opposites in the fact that Stormy-Rain's whole attitude is free-spirited and quirk rolled into one, she embodies her name. Marcus on the other hand is a strait-laced boring lawyer who loves structure and rules. Stormy-Rain is the type to color out of the lines and Marcus, making sure he is coloring in the lines. I loved Stormy-Rain's personality as in ways from her making up words to her hair colours, it reminded me of myself. Now the part I started to hate and it grated on me as I continued to read this book was the OTT amount of sex. These two who seem to hate each other, just can't keep their hands off each other. It's like freaking hell, make up your mind. When several misfortunate accidents happen on their way to the wedding, it will give this pair more time to bump uglies and prove that fate works in mysterious ways and that maybe, they aren't that different after all. By the time they make Prague, will there be more wedding bells in the future?

Initially I wasn’t sure I would like this as the main protagonists are not the typical rom com characters, but it was actually a great read! Two people, who are polar opposites in every way are forced together for a long journey across the world. As they travel towards their destination, they also become closer to each other. Stormy’s distrust of technology and societal norms are refreshingly quirky and even her rainbow coloured hair soon becomes endearing as you get to know and like her throughout the book. While Marcus’ obsession with being clean, neat and on time is tempered by his kindness and generosity. I loved the way the two characters gradually became more tolerant of each other’s views as they learned the reasons behind them.

Although on the surface this is a lighthearted romance, there is a surprising depth to it too and perhaps also a reminder not to judge people on first impressions. The story is fresh, original and is absolutely ‘chock a block’ with amusing moments!I love Jo’s engaging writing style and will definitely be looking for more books by her in future.

"After the Rain" is Ms. Watson's spinoff from her first book, "Burning Moon". It is the madcap misadventures of so serious Marcus and "she really can't be serious" Stormy as they travel from South Africa to Prague for Damien and Lilly's wedding. The question is whether they will make it there alive or will they kill each other long before they get there. I laughed all the way along, and you will too.

This is a 10 star book

I loved Stormy-Rain the character. Marcus was just about the greatest boyfriend around. the only thing I can complain about is that it ended, I wanted to keep reading more of Stormy's funny sayings. the writing style was definitely 10 stars. great romance. Loved the humor. I am anxiously awaiting more from this author.

Stormy-Rain believes in all things spiritual with an obsessive compulsive repulsion to new technology. She reads and believes in tarot cards, has rainbow coloured hair and does not believe in long lasting relationships. Marcus is her complete opposite. He is suave, sophisticated, tech savvy and as serious as Stormy-Rain isn't.
Follow Stormy-Rain and Marcus as they are thrown together by fate in an attraction and situations that have the power to either make or destroy their lives!

This is the first book by Jo Watson that I have read and I liked it so much that I went back to check out her other books and came to know that she won the Wattpad and So You Think You Can Write contests for her debut novel, Burning Moon and was so intrigued that I bought this book too. :)

After the Rain is a funny, sweet and beautifully written romance between two completely different people. I loved the unique cover of the book and was captivated by the blurb which, I am sure, will intrigue readers to pick up this book.
The characters are the highlight of this book. Stormy-Rain is so eccentric that she sometimes seems other-worldly and even unreal but then she suddenly does something that makes her seem so real and totally endearing. I absolutely loved Marcus with his silent strength and a balanced approach to life. He is a man who is sure to attract women with his good looks and his silent assurance of a stable life with him. He is a one-woman man and his exasperation with Stormy-Rain and his grudging attraction to her was so cute and totally entertaining. The third character played by Fate makes the story even more fun with its spicy story narration. The other characters which were introduced in Jo's previous and first book, Burning Moon also make an appearance in this book but despite this, we can read this book as a standalone like I did.

The story narration is smooth and Jo creates realistic situations with rich narrations that make the reader feel as if he is experiencing everything first hand. I finished this book in one sitting and then immediately went ahead to start Burning Moon! I was so intrigued that I could not wait. :)

All in all, this is a thoroughly entertaining romance that perfectly balances humour, emotional play and intense scenes which make the reader ponder over things and then despite all complications root for a HEA for the protagonists. I enjoyed reading about Stormy-Rain and Marcus and hope I meet them again in the subsequent books in this series. Strongly recommended to all readers above eighteen years of age, I give After the Rain 4.5 out of 5. Jo is a talented author and now definitely on my list of authors to watch out for.

Stormy-Rain loves everyone. She is a free spirit with a positive spirit and views the world with a glass full to the brim outlook. Except in relationships. Those she nevers gives more than 3 weeks. She ends them at their happiest so she never has to experience the painful endings she saw so much growing up.

Marcus likes order. Cleanliness, a place for everytjong and everything in its place. So when he agrees to travel with Stormy to his cousin's and her sister's wedding, her seemingly scatty approach to life irritates the hell out of him.

But when the plane hits a storm and has to make an emergency landing, Marcus and Stormy find comfort with each other. And so begins a whirlwind few days of arguments, passion, laughter and amazing sex. But what will happen when they reach their destination?

I LOVED this book! I think this is my favourite so far of the 'destination love' series. Stormy reminds me so much of some of my friends growing up, all incense and crystals and colourful hair. And Marcus is the perfect antithesis of that. Their chemistry is written so well by Jo Watson that at times my eyebrows rose into my hairline and I had to get a fan to cool my brow 😂.

You all know I am a sucker for a passionate romance with a happy ending and true, most books like this do follow a formula. Boy meets girl, passion ensues, insurmountable problem arises and they separate, live conquers all in happy reunion. Sometimes this formula is painfully laboured but what I love about Watson's take on it is that there never feels like a dull moment. And we know, objectively, that our heroes will end up together but the way Jo Watson writes makes you question it. This all comes together to make the ending even more satisfying!

Serious fangirl over here. Highly recommend if you like a pacey, passionate romance with location settings that make you Google flights and hotels!

Je recommend.

It wasn’t until I got to end and read the acknowledgment stating that this was version 2 (original version was stolen) that I was more comfortable with how I felt about this book.

This is the 4th book in a series of 5. I haven’t read the first 3 books, but those characters appeared in the last 2 chapters so this can be seen as a stand alone story.

Stormy rain Masters (the h) is on her way to Prague to attend the wedding of her step sister (main couple in book 1 I think). She is getting on the plane with the best man, Marcus Lewis (the H) since she hates flying. They are both the exact opposite. Stormy is like a 60’s flower child/hippie while Marcus is a Lawyer, neat and tidy with polished shoes. They hated each other at first sight. However, when they shook hand, there was a “pulse” or charge between them. Both H and h have family problems growing up which explains why they are that way.

The usual Jo Watson slap stick comedy is present, however, unlike the previous two I read this year (Love you, love you not/ Love to hate you) there were parts that was very slow. As mentioned, this was version 2 rewrite. I just finished she had version one. There was banter (idiom twists) with crazy sauce, but it’s not the same pace as the other two I’ve read. There were really great romantic moments (at the market, stuck in the car and the beach dinner/honeymoon suite) but the road trip was a bit flat. It makes me wonder, if the original was much faster pace with less repetition.

I gave this 4 stars because I love this author’s work. When I’m bored and I need something funny, I’ll read one of her books. There were funny moments in this book and Marcus was a well written H.

I’ll need to get the other books in this series and start from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this book. The setting, the characters, the romance, the humour... it was all great fun! Although the majority of this makes complete sense without any prior reading, I didn’t realise when I was sent this to review that it was the fourth book in a series. I got on fine without reading the other three books - but I do plan on reading them now as I enjoyed this one so much - but if I hadn’t realised this was part of a series early on then I think some parts towards the end, involving side characters that were focal in other books, wouldn’t have made complete sense to me. But overall I really liked this book. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for sending this to me.*

*All opinions are my own and are not influenced by the fact that I was sent this for review.

I was really looking forwards to the story about Stormy, all through the previous three books I was reading glimpses of her and as a pagan myself I was excited to get to her journey because I was thinking "oh cool, she's into astrology and numerology and she isn't the typical heroin."

What I got instead was a story about a ditz... She confuses such common phrases as "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?" She believes in aliens and that technology is wrong and she's the stereotypical preachy vegan. She basically has no job and homeless...

So, all the other leading females in this series have jobs that pay enough for random unplanned trips to foreign destinations, but the one who believes in alternative religions has barely any life skills to speak of...

PG13, but the sex could have gotten a lot more descriptive after I gave up about 20% in.
In the 1990's there was this great show called "Dharma and Greg" about an awesome hippie chick who was married to an uptight lawyer - true opposites attract - so I was excited about reading this book. The "hippie-chick" in the book, Stormy, was a parody of anything not "main-stream" and it got old pretty fast. I actually felt sorry for her! She and Marcus end up on a plane, sparks fly and that was fine until I was reading about straddling, tonguing, and groping (and what was being groped). Naah. Not my thing to read about sex.

I loved this book! Earlier this year I read ‘Finding You’ by Jo Watson and really enjoyed Jane’s story. When I saw that ‘After the Rain’ gave the free-spirited Stormy-Rain her own story I knew I had to read it!

Stormy is a brilliant character, and a lot of fun to read about. Her sunshiny demeanour and her bright outlook on just about everything other than planes and technology is adorable, and I loved seeing her blossom in this novel. Marcus is her polar opposite in every way, and that made for quite the entertaining love story!

If you’re looking for a cute summer read, put ‘After the Rain’ at the top of the reading list!

My main problem with this book is the female protagonist. To quote Tropic Thunder, "you never go full retard". I wished the author had watched that movie and refrained from writing things like:
"Stormy liked everybody. Even the grumpy-grump bank manager guy who kept sending her rude letters. Although she did appreciate the way he decorated them with the big red pretty stamps"
I mean, that's just too stupid to even be funny. She's so childlike (I'm all for quirky but it really seemed she had some kind of mental issue) that their relationship, sex aside, came across basically as father and small daughter. It's gross.

I honestly don’t know how jo Watson does it. Every book I read from her just gets better and better and she makes me fall in love with her stories all over again. Stormy and Marcus’s story was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS and unique. It was fun to see them slowly learn to love each other, despite being polar opposites and that ending was so satisfying sweet. I was very happy and excited to see Lilly and Damien again and there wedding scene was just want I imagined! This series is the best summer read and if you haven’t read any yet then you are seriously missing out! Can’t wait to carry on this series and work my way through the rest. Val is next on my radar...😭😘🌤
