Once upon a time a princess was betrayed, and her kingdom was stolen from her. She hid her most precious object in the human world, a princess of the blood, in the hopes that the Sleeping Court would get a chance to take their rightful place as high court in the realm Faerie. Now, a new generation has come of age, and the crown must be passed. The reigning Queen’s daughter will claim the throne uncontested unless those that remember, and waited to awaken the wayward princess can ally with her. But as with all tales of Faerie, it is not without peril, danger and intrigues. For our sleeping princess must awaken, choose her guard wisely, one that will help her save all her allies and avenge her family. Or history will repeat itself. A Reverse Harem Romance.
If you are looking for erotica then this book might be for you. However I was looking for something else and I was disappointed by this book. The writing wasn't great. The story felt weird and forced. It felt like a big cliché or a comedy... Idk. Not interest in continuing the series obviously.
There's F/F in this book which I appreciated for the diversity that I don't usually find in the RH books I've read so far.
Loved this fae story, with princess 'sleeping' in the human world unaware of her heritage. Lots of magical acts, a sentient house (wow!) and 4 lovers who are her guards. The h is great, humble, overwhelmed and smart enough to listen to others' advice. I love it when we have an h who is smart enough to take advice from people who might know more than her. The Hs are all great, and with some sweet twists - colourful, pierced and more.
This was an intriguing start to The Sleeping Court series! Verity is an artist who never knew her birth parents, has very little to her name, and isn’t sure how she’ll pay for her studio bill. She gets a mysterious call about her inheritance and when she goes to meet the Carrigan, she’s thrown into a whole new world. As it turns out, Verity is a fae princess and has to decide if she chooses to fight for her right to the throne of The Sleeping Court or history might repeat itself. Verity doesn’t automatically accept the truth at first, but she isn’t in complete denial either. Once she does accept who she is, she has a long journey ahead of her and a lot to learn about the world of fae. I thought it original that her house was attached to her and it changed based on her emotions or needs. The relationship she had with each of her guards was unique and they all had different personalities and skills. Carrigan was more so of a teacher for her and the romance was limited, Everett was reserved, Nassar was a typical arrogant and smart ass man, and Arien is her captain, gives herself completely to Verity, and will be anything she needs her to be. I loved that this book had FF which is still rare to see in reverse harems and I hope to see more of it as the series progresses. Joshua did a great job with this narration! I’ve listened to other books where a male narrator is used for a FMC, but his performance blew me away by how well he could pull off the female voices and bring them to life. I look forward to listening to the rest of this series and more books that he narrates. *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Slumber is an intriguing book in a promising new series.
This story follows Verity, an artist living in NYC who grew up in foster care, who after her twenty-eighth birthday is contacted by a strange man saying she's just inherited property and a ton of money from her family. Confused and curious with a studio bill that she won't be able to pay, Verity goes to upstate New York, to her new inheritance, and her world is changed forever.
Not only is Verity told that she is fae- and a princess- but she has a bunch of guys who will be coming to her to become part of her guard. And eventually, she'll be expected to make a choice, and decide whether or not to fight the princesses of the other faerie courts to become queen.
Slumber was an interesting story, providing lots of background and more information on the new world Verity is now a part of. This is a reverse harem, and Verity's guard is beginning to assemble in this story. One member of her guard is female, so there is a little ff in this story and likely in the future books. I'm normally not a fan of this in rh's but I did appreciate the characters in this book.
Overall I enjoyed reading this story, but I felt like something might've been missing. I think maybe Verity just seemed to accept everything and her new circumstances so quickly, not really questioning much, but it is stated at several times that it *felt* right to her or something like that, likely because of her fae powers/heritage. There wasn't a ton of action in this story, mostly just Verity getting settled into her new life and the addition of her guard, but it did end on a slight cliff hanger- promising lots of action in the future books.
Slumber was a good first book in The Sleeping Court series and I look forward to reading book 2!
I finished this book in only 4 hours and that just goes to show how amazing it was! Most RH books I've read lately consist of a minimal plot and maximum sexiness. However this book was a perfect combination of the 2. The plot was intriguing and unique and left me wanting more after each chapter. And the steamy scenes were so well written I could feel the emotions as they were playing out!
Honestly this book was so close to perfection that I almost gave it a 5 start review. They only thing that held me back was the relationship between her and her guard. It moved so fast and there was no easing into it. Once you read the book it becomes obvious why there relationship moved so fast but, I just like getting to know each individual character along with the heroine and that was somewhat missing in this book.
Verity is a starving artist. She has no clue, that her entore world is about to be turned topsy turvy. What do you do when you learn, that you have an inheritance? You pack up and leave. Carrigan fae, arrogant, and Verity teacher/ strategist. Hes the one who informs Verity of her true heritage. Everett, the strong and silent type. Nassar, cocky and arrogant, dark and sexy. Sin made into flesh. Arien her Captain, her female. Simply, just hers. This book is absolutely amazing. I was enraptured from the first page. You wont be able to put it down.
m/f, m/f/m, f/f Slumber is the first in a new RH fantasy by Dagmar Avery and K. Margaret and a terrific beginning it is. We get to meet Princess Verity who has been living among humans her heritage unknown to her. We get to see her start to build her court and find her powers. I enjoyed the book but was left wanting more. Bring on the next installment.
I need the second book! September can't get here fast enough. I gladly give it 5/5 stars and if I could I would give a million!! By far one of my favorite books this year! Unique and it left me wanting more. Also, no cliffhanger and I am so glad about that. I don't think I would've been able to survive.
I liked this. I think. I like the idea and the world building is great, but it’s odd to read about a princess who comes from foster care and poverty, but doesn’t feel awkward at meals or with servants. I’ll have to see how book 2 plays out since we are only just meeting the characters and getting a sense of the antagonists to come.
Such an amazing book! To be thrown into a faerie world and going from thinking you are nothing but a struggling artist to a Princess would definitely be hard on you. To top it off finding out you also get multiple guards, all of them willing to go above and beyond...... So many emotions come across in Slumber. Some twist and turns that I wasn't expecting but absolutely loved how it turned out! The connections Princess Verity seems to make with everyone in Slumber definitely felt real!! Dagmar definitely has a way with words!!
Cons- several grammatical errors (including but not limited to two or more words being fused together without spaces [ this happened a lot, only reason why I mention it] and one character having a complete name change early on.) Somewhat short compared to what I'm used to reading. Feels like there should have been a bit more before pulling the curtains.I A bit slow in the beginning. The story progresses pretty fast, but, idk, something about it felt slow at first and I struggled through the first several pages before I found myself really enjoying the story.
Pros- Arien. Lol, leave it at that. I love the idea of the guards in the court, though I hope there is a tad more explanation of the way the courts and politics work. The explanations so far are jumbled and sporadic, something that could be seen as a con, but I find it to be a bit more realistic this way. I love the individuality of the inner circle members. The story itself. I'm not a big fan of stories involving fae as I find most to be let downs, but I like this so far. Basilisk. Again, leave it at that.
Very lovely and enjoyable overall. Will definitely be getting Awaken once it debuts. :)
So I love that there is another female in this harem, it's a nice twist to have something other than all the testosterone, (which seriously isn't a problem but it gives you a change.) I also really enjoyed how Verity doesn't have a meltdown with the news that she is fae and she will have to fight to take the crown. Nothing bothers me more than a MFC who spends the entire story doubting everything, everyone and especially herself. I do wish there had been some more about the magic she is going to have instead of hints of what it could be, but I understand there will be more in the book(s) to come. There were a few spelling errors and even one spot where you had to guess you asked someone something because it said "ask asked," not terrible, but noticeable and slightly annoying. Will still read more books from this author in the future though and I can't wait to see how Verity's story progresses.
This book drew me in from the get go. I would have finished it in one sitting but adulting kept interfering. If you are offended by an f bomb and crazy hot sex, this isn't for you. If, however, you are like me and you enjoy those things, this is most definitely the book for you. I am so excited to learn more about this world, Verify, and her guard. I got to the last page and was both disappointed it was the last page and excited because it told me that it was just a little over a month until I can once again immerse myself in this world.
I honestly dont even know where to begin. I absolutely loved this story. Verity is different than most FMC I have read about lately and it makes me adore her so so much. Her guard? Sweet mother of God. I want my own version of three of them. The cliffhanger is going to be the death of me. I need to know more about Aziz. So grateful that I wont have to wait too long for book 2 to come out. I need to know what happens, like yesterday.
I really want to thank my book group for recommending this book. I might not have bought it otherwise. And that would have been really 😢. But hey I bought it and I just had to read it all in one day.....I absolutely couldn't put it down! I loved the strong female characters, the hot 🔥 delicious men and a really well developed and interesting story. All with a little humour and hot sex thrown in. Wow. I recommend this book.
Super steamy and interesting story. From no one to princess Verity must create her court and prepare to challenge for queen of fae. Intriguing because this harem also has a female and 3 men. Can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.
OMG Wow!!! My mind is so at a loss for words after reading this. We get incredible world building that makes you feel like you are there combined with some of the best characters ever. Each page holds a new surprise that blows your mind and just when it was really getting good I hit the last page moaning that it was over. I so need more!! If you enjoy paranormal reverse harem novels then you have to go get this one you will not be disappointed I promise!! I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
I love introductions to a good story, especially if you can loose yourself on your lunch break, tell your boss you got caught in the rain, just to take a few more minutes to savor it. The fact you want to speaks in droves. So...I know your dying to know about the reverse harem part. Lets just say there are some yummies in here that would make you long for this to be possible and legal!!! I quite enjoyed the plot and I was so thrilled to see that book 2 is up for pre order!! I cant wait to dive back into this world. Great Job Ladies!! You rocked this!!!
Be prepared to handle the steam coming off the pages...
An amazing page turner! I had a hard time putting it down and may have some withdrawal symptoms as I wait for book two. Great world and character building, lots of steamy scenes and promises of action packed pages in the future of the series. Definitely worth the money!
There are not enough stars to put on this. I was immediately transported into another world of fantasy and love. I didn't want to put it down and cannot wait to see what happens next. September cannot get here soon enough.
Verity and her guard are so fun to read about. Their banter and general interactions are hilarious. I am excited to see what comes next for this group!
I do love a good fae tale, even more so if it’s reverse harem. Let’s face it, the fae know how to get debauched!
This story starts with Verity being approached just after her 28th birthday by a lawyer to give her an inheritance. So far, so predictable.
Verity travels to the house she has inherited where she meets Carrigan, her advisor. He tells her that she is a fae princess and in 6 months she will be forced to take place in games to win the queenship of Faerie, against all the other princesses. In order to do that she needs to select her guard, who will be drawn to her now she has passed her 28th birthday. Again there is nothing new here.
She attracts guards and feels a deep connection with them almost immediately. She has to quickly learn who her guards are and to prepare for an influx of further guards and staff, who will come from the nobility who are part of her court.
It’s quite an interesting book and despite the plot not being terribly original, I enjoyed it. The characters are fun and there is plenty of sexy scenes as the guards connect with their princess.
I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.
Loved this steamy introduction to the Sleeping Court series. Verity is a poor artist, barely scraping by who suddenly finds out she’s actually a Fae princess! AND she’ll build a harem of other supernaturals to act as her guard. The story is spicy, fun and definitely whets the appetite for more in this series. It feels like it’s purpose is mostly setting up the rest series and laying the groundwork of the primary relationships. I enjoyed it, but felt like it was missing a little something. Very excited to continue the series though.
I could not put this down once I started reading. The details and the emotions the words have are amazing.. Meeting and finding her guards and her familiars Verity is ready to take the next steps to getting the crown back. I can't wait for awaken to come out so I can find out what happens next.
This story hooks u from page one . The first chapter is full of the best type of mystery... Hints a something special, a court that comes with the estate. The mix in this group is amazing. The story flies and never slows. The MC is so exceptional. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
