The Kingdom Unleashed: How Jesus' 1st-Century Kingdom Values Are Transforming Thousands of Cultures and Awakening His Church

Rate this book
Christianity is growing faster than at any time in history. So why is the church in Europe and America stagnant or declining, and what will it take for that to change? The Kingdom Unleased explores God's Kingdom Movements. Central to every movement are the core values of the Kingdom of God, which Jesus proclaimed and modeled throughout His ministry. The authors of The Kingdom Unleashed spent three years researching why only a few such movements are happening in North America and Western Europe. They identify the historical and worldview issues that hinder Kingdom movements in the West. Interviews with many leading movement catalysts illuminate the biblical principles, paradigms, and practices that Jesus mandated for His disciples. By returning to these, we can revitalize Christianity in the Global North and see the Kingdom Unleashed.

The truth is, most of this book left me wanting to give it 5 stars. I found the overall message and challenge of the book to be inspiring and provoking. It left me wanting to *give it a try* in terms of the methods that the authors described. There’s much in this book that feels both relevant and important, and I’m going to discuss its contents with others until I can confirm what the Lord wants me to implement from it. My only hesitancy regarding its message is how far the authors go in redefining what churches and church growth should look like in the context of the global north based on what’s happening in the radically different contexts in the global south. I’ll need to think on that a bit more! I don’t think I’m quite as convinced as they are that the methods of this book can’t be implemented within the context of existing churches in the global north.

First disciple making movement book I’ve read and lays a well written foundation for living life fully for Gods glory. Opened my eyes to scripture in new ways and provides clear steps to obey scripture in practical, God honoring, prayer filled ways. HIGHLY recommend to anyone serious about the great commission and serving Jesus with your life!

This book offers an intellectual, in-depth introduction to the Discipleship Making Movement and it’s importance to fulfilling the Great Commission. The authors make a compelling argument for DMM methodology. I liked it a lot and will use it as a foundation for Deaf ministry going forward.

Challenging, convicting, encouraging, inspiring. This book is a good first step to reshaping my thinking to a more kingdom-centered mindset that follows how Jesus approached ministry than how the North American church culture has shaped it. Great read for all Christ followers, no matter vocation.

I never heard of the Disciple-Making Movement (DMM), but this book gives a history and an update of its work around the world. It was helpful to differentiate between the institution and movement.

This is an amazing account of God’s work in the global south today, which is also a challenge for us in the global North. God is working in mighty and wonderful ways as He did in the the New Testament Church. Jesus’s strategy of multiplying healthy disciples is changing the world. How might we in the global north change to further trust God and see Him tea olives for His glory?

Horrible book. The only thing keeping me from 1 star are some valid critiques of the church. Truly disturbing lack of sound ecclesiology. Obedience is made central over the gospel. Stay away.
