Can the youngest Fuller sister tame the beast of a Police Chief? Or will their romance fizzle because of his temper? A modern-day retelling of Beauty and the Beast!
Berlin Fuller has struck out with the dating scene in Brush Creek more times than she cares to admit. When she makes a deal with her friends that they can choose the next man she goes out with, she didn't dream they'd pick surly Cole Fairbanks, the new Chief of Police. Not only is Cole twelve years older than Berlin, he doesn't date. Period.
His friends call him the Beast and challenge him to complete ten dates that summer or give up his bonus check to their bank accounts. When Berlin approaches him, stuttering about the deal with her friends and claiming they don't actually have to go out, he's intrigued. Everything from her hair color to her eyelashes is fake, and Cole really wants to know the woman beneath the façade.
So he agrees to the date and actually wants to go on it. And then another. And another. As the summer passes, Cole finds himself burning both ends of the candle to keep up with his job and his new relationship. When he unleashes the Beast one time too many, Berlin will have to decide if she can tame him or if she should walk away. Can Cole shelve his pride and apologize? Or will it be too little too late for Berlin?

Good book until about 75/80% through. I keep having a hard time with Berlin acting like Cole should be forgiven. It actually should be the opposite way. I feel Berlin acted immature and irrational. Had she listened to the reason why instead of assuming there wouldn’t have been an issue. How even feeling that way she wouldn’t give him a second chance in her mind but she is allowed second chances.

Loved this story. Another great book by Liz.
Cole is the Chief of Police and is a beast most of the time. He hasn't been in a real relationship because he has been too busy climbing the professional ladder. Berlin is the youngest Fuller and has dated a lot but never found anyone worth dating for very long or that her family approved of. Even though Cole is almost 10 years older they hit it off but there are problems along the way and they have several first dates. Will they be able to make it work even though Cole is like a beast? Will Cole be able to forgive Berlin for what happened at the retirement party? Can Berlin forgive Cole for tracking her down when she is out with her friends and her phone pocket dials him?
The only single Fuller sibling, Berlin, has charged her two friends with helping her find romance. After an image overhaul they decide that Cole, the chief of police is the perfect man. He in turn is under orders from his team to find a date. Cole is quite simply the most stroppy man in town but does have some sweet qualities, he clearly tries to be more civil to Berlin, even attempting to dance with her. Again a sweet romance, even if both characters are in need of a boot up the backside, why does Berlin need to change herself?!! Again the Fuller famil is in full force, with their family dinners, and nosy siblings. The family dynamic is strong with mum fretting over boyfriend choices because of Berlin's tendency to date older men. I'm not sure why Cole is accepting an ultimatum put to him by people that he doesn't think of as friends, just colleagues, but i suppose it adds to the plot of two people being given that push to find romance. Again dogs and food, even bad food, play a part in this story, as in practically all Liz Isaacson books. There seem to be a lot of dogs and no cats in this town, (unlike in my street where there are cats everywhere)! A sweet romance with the familiar plotline, but a good way to have a relaxing read. I voluntarily agreed to read an advanced copy of this book.
Berlin Fuller is the youngest in her huge family, and the only one not married. Family gatherings are an exercise in torture. She's happy that they're all happy, but wonders when her turn will come. When her friends challenge her to a date of their choosing, she accepts, never dreaming that they will pair her with the much older police chief, Cole Fairbanks. Yes, he's handsome, and he makes her heart flutter, but does she really want someone who appears to want to run her life?
Cole Fairbanks is new to his job, and feels the pressure to be a role model. Feeling pressure from his mother - who wants grandbabies - and his men, he accepts their challenge to go on 10 dates over the summer, or forfeit his bonus check. Are their any women in Brush Creek that can hold his interest?
When Berlin approaches Cole to confess that her friends dared her to ask him out, will he take one look and bolt? Or, will he see his first of 10 dates looking back at him?
As usual in a Liz Isaacson story, there is plenty of struggle as the pair falls for one another. From a horrid first date, to Berlin's fake hair color and fake eyelashes, almost everything that can goes wrong. Even their age gap is held against them by her family. Can they wade through the muck, to find the love they were meant for?
A Catch for the Chief ties up the Fuller Family portion of the Brush Creek Brides quite nicely. I would recommend it for anyone who likes their romance sweet, fairly short, and with some sparkles of fun thrown in.
Berlin is the youngest Fuller and is tired of being like the rest of the family. In A Catch for the Chief by Liz Isaacson she find that change isn’t always what it is cracked up to be. Berlin wants a change, a drastic change in her appearance and her attitude, something to say she’s not like the rest of her family. She changes her hair color and style, allows her girlfriends to find ‘the perfect’ guy for her and to have him ask her out as a bet. And to Berlin’s horror, who did they find? None other than the growling bear, the chief of police, Cole Fairbanks. Cole’s friends from the police force think he should be dating, so they bet him that he can’t go on ten dates and it didn’t matter if it was with the same woman or ten. With two bets on the line and two completely different personalities the fun and games are about to begin. Which wins the bet? Does the meek tame the bear? What fun it was to read this sweet story! Liz Isaacson never fails to keep you reading until the end.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It starts with a disastorous date between Berlin & Cole. But they are willing to try again & that trying turns things around. Much later a disastorous phone call puts them on the rocks again. The thing is if I had gotten the call Cole got I would have been there with sirens too! There was screaming & he was worried abut Berlin especially when she didn't answer him. But he should not have said she was his! Because a relationship is not about being owned by anyone. I think she could have given him more forgiveness earlier though he did like to be in control. I like the changes he made to love & not control. I liked the ending & how he made points with all her family. It was heartwarming.
Berlin, the youngest Fuller daughter, is tired of her life the way it is. She decides to change everything about herself from the color of her hair to the way she dresses. Her girlfriends take her to the town's fair to find a date as her new self. Dating is not her strength. Cole, the town's Chief of Police, is also at the fair with his buddies. The guys make a bet with Cole that he cannot go on ten dates and not necessarily with the same person. With the guys prodding Cole, the gals dare Berlin to ask Cole on a date. Cole wants to win the bet. The result of this cross-betting becomes a tale of how two, usually non-dating people, manage to shoot themselves in the foot often enough to have several first dates. This is a fun read in true Isaacson form.
Another cute, clean, quick read from Isaacson. This one follows much along the same formula as other Isaacson books but I think the temporary break up makes more sense in this one than some of them do. The Christian theme is there but not heavy handed. This is supposed to be a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but I mostly just thought the guy was a bit grumpy. I could have read the whole book without making the comparison but it is kinda there. This book ends the Fuller Family series with everyone happily married and the grandkid count rising...
I really enjoyed this book even though the hero and heroine were absolutely crazy-making to me for most of the story. Neither Berlin nor Cole has ever maintained a serious, long-term relationship. So, they’re both fish out of water trying to make something between them work. They make lots of miss steps in this book. They jump to conclusions, fail to talk to each other, and spend far too much time blaming. All in all, they behave like young teenagers rather than the fully grown adults they are. And yet, I loved reading every angsty, frustrating moment. I’m sorry to see the Fully family drama come to an end. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
Liz Isaacson has written a winner with A Catch for the Chief! Police Chief Cole and Berlin are wonderful protagonists who learn to follow the pastor’s sermon and “be honest”. Cole’s coworkers challenge the confirmed bachelor to have ten dates or buy dinner for the entire department. After a terrible first date, Cole thinks dinner will be the best choice! I enjoyed this light romance and recommend it to others. I received an advance complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
A great ending to this series. Berlin needs to make a change. She agrees to let her friends choose someone for her to ask out. It happens to be the chief of police. He is ten years older. She is an accountant and has been hired to audit the police department. They enjoy each other’s company, but they end up breaking up several times. Will they work things out? I received an ARC of this book and I am giving an honest review.
This modern day retelling of “Beauty and the Beast” has the reader laughing one minute and shaking your head the next. The beauty, Berlin Fuller, agrees to a makeover in order to spice up her life. But her “new and improved” version of herself really isn’t. The beast, police chief Cole Fairbanks, doesn’t date nor does he know how to date. This enjoyable read illustrates the timeless values of staying true to yourself, being honest, owning your mistakes and forgiving others’ their mistakes.
Another sweet clean read for this series. I've enjoyed the Fuller family and how different they have all been. I come from a big family, so can relate to them well. Cole and Berlin are cute together. Both are really unsure in relationships and have some things to work on. It was a sweet story with a HEA.
When Berlin and Cole are dared to ask each other out, will they kill two birds with one stone or end up falling for each other? I loved that this unlikely beginning turned into a realistic relationship between two flawed characters and couldn't wait to see if they were able to overcome their own issues to find love.
I didn’t realize this was a beauty and the beast retelling until it was mentioned at the end. Interesting. I enjoyed these characters and the definitely had some struggle to get through to their HEA. I’m sad to leave this town and family but I know that the next one I grab will be just as great.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I generally like this author! But this book was not my jam. First off I felt like Berlin was a bit too babyish. There was a scene where it she would have let Cold explain, perhaps she wouldn't have come off as insensitive! I hate when people don't communicate, and listen! She came across as self centered and immature.
I absolutely loved this story. I really enjoyed following this relationship from it's beginning to it's happy ending. I might have even fallen a little bit for the police chief. This was a really sweet, clean romance.
Berlin Fuller meets Cole Fairbanks, the chief of police in Brush Creek, under extenuating circumstances - a bet. She must get him to ask her for a date or lose a bet. Age difference, stubbornness and anger play a big role in this relationship. Another great book by a great author.
Cole being Chief of Police, seemed like he was all work and no play, making him have a bad, beastly, attitude. Berlin, trying her best to be something she is not, different from her family. Friends put out a bet, ten dates. For her a make over. The break up after another. Delightful retelling of Beauty and the Beast. End to a good series, as all of her books are an enjoyment to read. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion..
I really liked how the police chief was portrayed and how dating one can be intense especially when he wants be overprotective. Including the conflicts it can cause and how love and patience is needed.
What is the chance that choosing a date based on a bet will work out? Not very likely. But this story is a lot of fun to read. That first date is rough when the couple just don’t click, but the story is great. I really enjoyed it, and hope you give a chance!
This was a beautiful romance about taking a chance with love. I loved the storyline and the wonderful characters of Brush Creek. This book is recommended for those who love sweet romance.
Berlin and Cole both face dating dates at the beginning of the story. This didn't go anywhere past that. Both make mistakes, but Berlin seems to feel Cole is the only one at fault. A cute read, saved by Cole. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I loved the story of Berlin and Cole. She is lonely and is in need of change and he is career driven and hasn't given much thought to settling down...yet. Loved the characters and would highly recommend this book.
Berlin and Cole have a terrible first date. But what can you expect from a date brought about by a bet. When Berlin was chosen to audit the police department, she and Cole just kept running into each other and let the romance begin. Delightful!
This is one of those stories that will keep you intrigued and guessing what will happen next between probably two of the most stubborn people in this series.
Loved Cole even if he was a little grumpy. Berlin aggravated me - I thought she was pretty immature. Can a disastrous first date and a few break ups lead to forever? Sad to see this series end.
Great final book in the series. Loved Cole and Berlin. Cole didn't always have a winning personality but that just made him more loveable. Berlin was sweet.
