In a gargoyle city beneath the streets of Chicago, Storm Princess Marbella Mercy walks a dangerous path to find the only source of magic that will save Baelen Rath's life.
Now in control of her storm power, she must infiltrate gargoyle territory, heal Baelen, and escape. It's a simple get in, get out plan ... until she crosses paths with the brutal gargoyle king.
Already in possession of savage power, the king is hell bent on adding the storm to his list. Wanting the Princess for his own, he is prepared to do anything to bend her to his will.
When the king's ruthless actions push Marbella to the edge, she is left with only one choice - the princess must strike.

I knew the second I started this book that I'd end up skimming it - and probably the third book as well. There is no build up between Marbella and her love interest Bae - yes they've been friends since Marbella was eleven or something until she was eighteen (and had sex for the first time), and was apart for seven years. I don't feel their connection, their chemistry at all. Hell, I felt more chemistry between Marbella and a certain other male character.
That said, I skimmed/read real fast, expect the part where there was conversations. That book isn't bad. It was better than the first for some reason. You get to connect with more character that are more relatable. But Marbella's love interest was barely in it and that means we didn't get any chance to see their relationship, nor see it devolve. Overall, even though I had had too high expectations of book one and was let down, I somehow had expectations for this one as well and was let down yet again.
Characters: The list is long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

This was one wild ride from beginning to ending. And I was one long scream the whole time. The Princess Must Strike starts immediately after the ending of The Princess Must Die. Marbella, Jasper, The Storm and the unconscious Baelen are fleeing from the horrific betrayal of the Elven Elders and hoping to heal Baelen. But the gargoyle King is as monstrous as they come and Marbella must either appease him or kill him before she can take care of Baelen.
So much happened in this installment. This book was like the opposite of middle book syndrome! I loved it so much and the romance aspect was almost non-existent! We learn so much about Storm, the other gargoyles and the mythology of the world in general. It was amazing and the ending left me hanging for some final answers! I cannot wait to read the third and final book, I have a feeling it will be even better.
Marbella has to do some awful shit in this book through no fault of her own. I loved seeing her grow even more since she couldn't use a lot of her storm power throughout this book. She is such a fierce warrior and I love her so much!! I cannot wait to see what she's going to do next.
Princess must Strike by Everly Frost and Jaymin Eve a five-star read that will set you alight. This is the second book in the Storm Princess Saga and it’s a beautifully written second chapter, it takes the story to the next level and reveals details that make you impatient for the third book. Marbella Mercy has always been a strong character, but in this story, she must be the strongest she has ever imagined, this book will break not only Marbella but also you as a reader, but will you have the same strength the Storm Princess does? Will you be able to face the battle? This book turns everything on its head, we have been led to believe one thing and then the rug gets bulled and you are left breathless and wondering, there will be tears of sadness and joy, but they are worth it in the end. The final book can’t come quickly enough. Everly and Jaymin thank you for putting in the hard work, it was so worth it.
This story is amazing. Please let the next one be out already so that I can read it and devour it and then read it again. I’m hoping that Marbella becomes a gargoyle.
Well my interest flattened out real quick, the characters started becoming flat and the storyline started dragging. Plus how are you going to put the H to sleep for the whole story? No development. Count me out!
The second saga of the ‘Storm Princess’ series, once again these authors have knocked it out of the park. As a second novel this was excellent. Our knowledge of the elven world is good so rather than recapitulation on known themes, the authors send our central female on a desperate flight to save her desperately wounded love. On the way she is accompanied by the storm. They flee to the world of the Gargoyles...a race separated from the elves and submersed by horrific rumours. And so we begin a brand new adventure with little reliance for plot on the previous book. The result is a stunning exposition of world building introducing a whole new, unique world full of its own political intrigues, cultural customs and high adventure. The pictures of this world remain painted vividly in my imagination with lifelike believable characters and stunning scenery.
REALLY like where this is all going! Well, where I'm assuming it's going... I really enjoyed the first book but this one was just *YES, HECK YES...YES!!* I am still kicking myself for passing up gargoyle books in the past because of being scared they weren't my type of read...i was so, so wrong. Well, it could also be that these two authors are pretty awesome at what they do!! Either way, I'm glad to be reading this and I'm loving/hating the feels it's been giving me. Must must read for all of you fantasy readers out there.
Wow! I was not expecting any of this to happen. Love this story. It was even better than the first one. The storm Princess is one kick a$$ chic. First she was defeating some sorcerers now killing some gargoyles. I gotta say I halfway through this I was kinda hoping her true love didn’t wake up and I was pulling for team Cassian. 😍 The end though...gave me all the feels. Jaymin and Everly I bow down to you. Y’all are some amazing writers.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a bit different than the first, but it is totally understandable. The games are finished and the blinds have been lifted. There is nothing to do but move forward and that is exactly what happens here. Plus I really like the new characters we are introduced to, the good and bad.
I’m a fan of this series. I’m a fan of these authors! There is a cliffhanger ending which is sooo frustrating but it’s worth it. It just keeps getting better and better. I want the next one!
Oh man, what a wild ride! I’m bouncing in my seat anxiously awaiting the conclusion. This series is a unique and just flat out awesome collaboration between two amazing authors. New fav. Reread worthy.
Why is Baelen the most unnecessary and useless MMC I have ever read??? He quite literally just existed in this book, no decisions, no character development, NOTHING. At this point just kill him
Man do the characters grow in this book! New characters become beloved friends. Baelen must now reach for Marbella. So glad I don't have to wait for the next book.😁
Be warned CLIFFHANGER ending!!! However it's soooooo worth it. Can't wait for the next and final book of this BRILLIANT series.
This one picks up where the last left off. Storm Princess Marbella fled with her love, Jasper, the Phoenix, and the invisible Storm Queen after the horrific betrayal by their Elven Elders. Still trying to wrap her mind around all that happened, and the current state of Baelen (all but frozen in a coma like state)...The group flees to attempt to find some semblance of safety. Quickly a female gargoyle launches herself at them pleading for asylum and help. Moments later the Gargoyle king guard face off against them demanding she be returned as she's "property of His Majesty"... ICK....and NO! Marcella, Jasper, and all that were able fight off these male gargoyles in an attempt to get this female newcomer to safety. Out of nowhere a barrage of arrows appear to help them by fighting the men trying to take the fearful female. Not knowing who sent these arrows their little unit quickly use the help and get her to ground. Within moments the road 's appear to move...only for them to realize it's another male gargoyle...oh and he has arrows in his hand. Guess that answers the question of who notched the arrows....now to determine friendly or foe. Moments later Marbella realizes he's the Gargoyle she came upon in the cave....The father of the twin babies. Surprises just keep coming, which seems to be the trend in this book. Their "fearful" female is suddenly fearful to more...in fact she fiercely goes to protect the group that saved her from this new male. Seeing the mark in his skin she knows what clan he's from and thinks him a monster. Here is where we learn how just like the lies spread within the Elven realm, so have they spread within the Gargoyle realm.
All our Storm Princess knows is she desperately needs the water from the special spring that runs below where the current gargoyle "king" has made his palace if she has ANY hope of saving Baelin. Many falsehoods are revealed, enemies become friends, legends shown false, and a few personal surprises for the Storm Princess emerge along this path to save her love. It all begins when they're captured by the Gargoyle king, whom they soon learn is working with the tainted Elven Elders. Marbella works her magic with all that she meets...making friends with the Gargoyle miners, the previous Gargoyle high priestess, and strangely enough the Gargoyle captain of the guard. What she learns in her time imprisoned. Would change everything for herself and the Gargoyle nation. This one tiny female has so much strength within. Strength of conviction, love, belief, and the desire to set things right and save an enslaved realm not her own....or is it? Forced to use her wits, mind, instincts and friendships as she's without the storm power for now...we see her truly come into her own. The truth begins to reveal itself to her...slowly. I for one can't wait for the next book to see the full reveal....I have a feeling those horrible Elven Elders will rue the day they turned on her, Baelen and their people. Here's to Marbella and her friends possibly freeing two peoples, revealing the falsehoods spread to BOTH kingdoms, and possibly uniting them? Maybe the mysterious book that she was shown by the previous gargoyle high priestess within the Gargoyle "Kings" palace holds many of the answers they all need. Fingers crossed the next book comes out soon. This series is full of adventure, excitement, betrayal, sorcery, politics, and so much more!
These authors have outdone themselves. The second installment of the Storm Princess series was action packed and full of crazy revelations. Also, can I take a moment and just express how great/horrible a villain King Howl was. I thought I hated the Eleven Commanders, but then I read this book and was like... yea, they are like overgrown kids playing with magic compared to King Howl. That dude was a whole different level of evil and cruel.
By the 50% I was a little disappointed that Baelen was so absent other than the fleeting telepathic thoughts and memories, but after ending I could see how strategic that was for the set up of the next book. Also, I’m a little upset Cassian died. I hate love triangles, but that would have been super interesting to see play out. I did like that Marbella never flinched in her love for Baelen or felt tempted by what Cassian was offering. His final words made me swoon and hurt.
There were times that the scenes were almost overly developed? It had a little Charles Dickens dejavú-ness with some of the detailed descriptions that some might find dragged out and boring. Really that’s my only complaint about this book. I was also a little annoyed that we got a lot of revelations, but even more questions. I’m wondering if there might need to be a fourth book or the next one is going to be very long to tie up all these loose ends.
I feel in love with so many secondary characters, and now I want novellas on all them. Seriously though, especially for the Harem wives and their men who were forced into the mines. There is almost little to no romance in this installment, but great emotions of friendship, unity, redemption, determination, and perseverance shine through making “The Princess Must Strike” an exceptional read. I anxiously anticipate the next book. If these authors ever pair up for another series, I’m one-clicking for sure.
This trilogy takes more twists and turns than I expected out of it. At it's heart, it's a fantasy romance, with quest-like tendencies. The lead is female, which is unusual for hero-quest-fantasy. And while she does collect a band of supporters along the way, the journey is far from merry, though I give the author props for limited causalities (actually to an unrealistic level, but it's still very kind to the reader.) The happily-ever-after is big and wonderful, not just for the hero and heroine, but for the entire society. The big theme of the book is the heroine putting aside her desires and pride for the long game, the greater good. She sucks up a lot of humiliation and abuse to come out on top at the end, proving herself worthy.
In this one, the heroine is enslaved and her love is on the brink of death for the entire book, give or take.
While I really, really loved this story, I was annoyed by a few factors:
1) It’s not RH. Ok, for some that’s a selling point, not so much for me, lol! You’ll understand once you read it. 2) he’s not even really in this one! Wasn’t really in the last one either, truth be told, will we learn more about Bae in book 3? 3) we need some multiple POV.
All that aside, this is still a fantastic tale that wouldn’t have even annoyed me if I didn’t like it so much. Go figure.
This one starts off with a bang literally seconds from when the previous book ends. Baelen is cocooned in a shell of storm power. Marbella is off to save him with just Jasper and the storm along with her phoenix to help her. The path is dangerous, more enemies will come out and surprisingly a few allies that were to never be.
Within moments of Marbella and the group taking off for the gargoyle spings they are thrust back into action with an escaped gargoyle begging elves for their help and sanctuary. The Gargoyle king’ guards are fast to retrieve her, yet out heroes and heroine are not giving her up. With some unknown help from the land, their air maneuvers allow them to escape. They then find Llion, the gargoyle that we met in the first book. Llion and the new gal do not get along, with good reason. His markings are telling of his true character or are they? Maybe the gargoyle king and the Elven Council are a lot a like?
Marbella cares not, walking start into enemy territory to save her love. There is she captured, and taken to the palace. Here she finds out how truly off their rockers the Elven Council really is- having witnessed first hand their corruption. Baelen is taken off away from Marbella, and she is sent to the mines. The gargoyle king will help her with the springs if she helps him find the hidden gargoyle heartstones. Marbella soon realizes that all of the gargoyle race is being held hostage by the new king.
The miners see her as a weakness- someone they do not want on their team all but Llion that is. They soon learn that it does not do well for them to underestimate her. She starts to talk to the other miners, all of whom are males. She learns their story and becomes the beacon of strength. It is through her diplomacy that they realize that they cannot continue as they are.
Marbella is very much isolated from all that she knows in this book. She does not have Baelen to support her, her guards to protect her, or her storm power to keep her company. She has only herself- and boy does she grow. She learns to trust in herself, and to rely on herself- for the first time in seven years. Everything she does is for the good of others, which is why she must prevail.
I very much disliked the lack of Baelen in this book. I trust where the author is going with this, and it helped with Marbella’s character development but it kinda sucks for the romance side of things.
Holy cow that ending though! I mean, one cliffhanger after another. Thank goodness the next one is releasing soon. Can it come sooner?
My Rating 4 out of 5 stars
Favorite Quote It’s like having part of me ripped away and thrown into darkness.
Other People Jasper- Baelen’s bestie, elf Storm- spirit of a gargoyle Llion- gargoyle, ally Howl- evil gargoyle
Bah that cliffhanger!!! *shakes fist* This story is so consuming, it really sucks you in! What a revelation there at the end even if it had been leading up to it! I am sooo ready for Bae to wake up already! Yea his name is Bae I snicker even if it is a nickname!
So our Lady Storm has made it to the heart of the Gargoyle kingdom only to find that she thought her kingdom had it rough with their council, they had no idea! One good thing about Marbella is that she knows how to make some allies, I thought for a second she would even turn the kings heart...
I love all the characters even our resident miners are fleshed out and have such unimaginable horrific stories. I was not expecting this though, the cliffhanger has really thrown me and now I am not sure where this next book is headed and who the enemy really is. Maybe our lady storm will take the fight to the nasty council and finish what "storm" started so long ago....We shall see. I bet for sure we will see Storm's story next book! Imma head that way now *wink!
Is this book as good as the first one? Yes! Does it live up to the high standards the first one set? Yes! Did I find myself as enraptured with everything still? Well yes, even more so than I did the first book actually. Honestly, this book is AMAZING! Sometimes the second book in a series is just never as good as the first one. Well for me, The Princess Must Strike was even better than the first book. Marbella has travelled into Gargoyle territory to save Baelen and oh what a fantastic story is weaved. Nothing goes as you expect and new characters are introduced, most who you really grow to care for but some who are just plain evil. When I read The Princess Must Die I said that was my favourite book of the year. Well this book then came along and this is now my favourite book this year. Question is, will the third one in this series top them all when it's released? I can't wait to see! Five stars for a fantastic and riveting read. I loved it.
This amazing sequel lives up to its first. Marbella is a strong character and I love her fierce loyalty to Baelen. We meet new characters, I loved some and hated others. All in a good way! On to the next one. Major cliffhanger at the end!😍😍😍😍
STOP what you're doing right now and GO READ THIS SERIES
I loved the first book a lot, but when I realized Baelen won't be in this book I was very disappointed. I hate it when the H suddenly doesn't appear in the books, I gave up on a lot of good series that I liked the first book but at the second one something happened to the H and he disappeared.
I almost gave up on this series too
What a huge mistake that would've been.
I LOVED this book, even much more than the first one. I didn't even care that Baelen wasn't there, actually, most of the time I was glad he wasn't!
Marbella is such a strong character, I love that about her. She doesn't need a man to help her and take care of her. I think if Baelen was in this book we wouldn't see her strength as we saw here.
Even though she has a lot of friends that wants to take care of her, she doesn't let then coddle her. She's independent, smart, understanding and accepting. She adapt to every situation she's in and doesn't complain.
Truth to be told, I kind of got over Baelen at along the way.
At first, I wanted her with Jasper, than I really REALLY wanted her with Cassian. Even though I knew probably nothing will happen.
But if there was a different a book just like the story of Cassian and Marbella but this time the h didn't have someone and it was about their romance.. I would definitely read it!
Ugh.. Cassian.. I love him😍
And jesper too.. he's so precious
God I love the boys in this series
I usually don't review books, as you can see, I talk too much. However I was so overwhelmed by this book that I just had to say something!
I'm so pissed this series is so unknown and underrated! It's beautiful! And where am I supposed to find Cassian and Marbella funfiction?? I need it so much, I swear, I dreamed about them!
This book has a completely different feel than the first. But that makes sense when you're in a different part of the same world.
Marbella and Jasper have gone on their mission to help Baelen. Which means they've entered the Gargoyle territory. A place where Marbella believes is volatile due to things she'd been told. What she finds there is something she wasn't prepared for. Especially the King who is intent on breaking her and taking what Marbella has, the storm.
What starts out as a mission to help the one she loves ends up with her helping a race she was brought up to hate.
In this book Marbella is stripped down completely. She becomes someone she never thought she would but she embraces it all the same. She learns and grows as a person and a Princess. There are things she never knew and the things she did are now being questioned. She has been doing things alone all along and now she knows what it's like to have someone helping her in ways she never had. Now she refuses to let go and will do everything in her power to make things right in the world again.
The world will only get bigger from here and I can't wait to see it!
The story of The Princess Must Strike takes place immediately after the events of The Princess Must Die. Marbella, along with her companions Jasper, The Storm, and the injured Baelen, are on a journey to the magic spring in the Gargoyle land in hopes of healing Baelen.
However, they face a major obstacle as the gargoyle King, obsessed with power, has blocked the path to the spring. Marbella must find a way to defeat him if she ever wants to save Baelen.
The second book in this series is a significant improvement from the first. The adventure into the Gargoyle land is thrilling, and it is interesting to see how Marbella gains allies and inspires them to stand up for themselves. Even the high-ranking officer, who was once loyal to the King, has a change of heart.
I am eager to discover what has happened in the Elven country and fear for the safety of Marbella's devoted Storm Command and her advisor, Elise. But before that, I am curious to know what Marbella has become. I wonder how powerful she has grown and if it is enough to defeat the Five Elven Commanders.
Book 1 was nothing short of gripping, and I plowed straight into this book hoping to keep the momentum. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was NOT expecting Marabella to travel straight into gargoyle country. I usually am pretty even-keeled when it comes to riding out the story, but this one just took me by surprise, and it took a good 2/3 of the book to truly get me on board with what was transpiring. Maybe it’s because the plot is SO technical with characters, and history, and politics (of their world not ours), and love interests all interwoven between each other that it takes a while to truly grasp the full picture. It’s well done; it just took me a while to get everything organized in my own mind. It’s definitely NOT a series you can set aside and just pick back up on a whim. Though it definitely isn’t my favorite book in the series (so far), it’s enough to keep me on board to see what will happen in the third and final book in the series.
Oh the run from the elven council marbella. To the only thing that can save baelin is water from a magical spring. Marbella, Phoenix , Jasper, I'm a coma like state baelin and the storm fly into gargoyles territory to save Bae. But things are shocking not plain sailing. Flying into a female gargoyles on the run from guards. They save her and find out she is the priestess who is the only person who can rightfully used deep magic and crown the tyrant 'king' who has enslaved all gargoyles and built a castle around the magic spring. Trying anyway to get the water marbella is caught by the king and enslaved into helping find gargoyles heart stones. It's a long harrowing time where marbella grows bonds with other miners and she finds out alot about herself as secrets about storm are revealed and herself and have a huge affect on both kingdoms
This was an absolutely epic story. That thing about sequels never living up to the first must only apply to movies because, as awesome as the first book was, this blew it out of the water. Marbella is as strong and amazing as ever even with Baelen in the state the first book left him, no falling apart and losing herself for this kick butt heroine! There was literally never a dull moment through this story. It grabbed hold of me from page one and didn't let go until I finished, I truly could not put this one down. I loved the deeper look at the gargoyles we got in this book, they are so unlike any fantasy race I have ever read about before. Seriously, this book and series are amazing, just read them! The cliffhanger end though, so not fair! Someone get me book 3 stat!
Written again from Marbellas POV. You need to have read the first book to understand the story. The world building and character development is written well. Although Marbella's heart belongs to Baelen the story is not centred around their romance. However Marbella does end up in the enemies territory to find a cure for Baelen. Her enemies become allies, even those that look like they support the king. They look after her and keep her safe. It might appear slow in parts to some but I actually found it quite refreshing. It's a good book and the story unfolds and develops throughout with a few surprises. Marbella is something else and secrets come out at the end of the book. There are some emotional parts especially during the final battle. This isn't a love triangle, Marbella is faithful to Baelen while he sleeps. Highly recommended
