In this insider’s account, the Predators’ greatest players and coaches—past and present—come to life. From P.K. Subban and Shea Weber, to Jason Arnott, Pekka Rinne, Filip Forsberg, Mike Fisher, and more, Kristopher Martel covers it all.
In 1998, the Predators joined the NHL as an expansion team, marking the start of what’s been a wild ride! Tales from the Nashville Predators Locker Room covers all the stories, from the adventures around the inaugural season, to Nashville’s storied rivalry against the Detroit Red Wings, road reports from players competing abroad during the 2004 lockout, the heartbreak of the 2010 playoff loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the jubilation of winning a playoff series in 2011, the Matt Duchene offside goal controversy in 2013 that in turn helped to prompt official reviews, the art of the trade and how General Manager David Poile has helped land some of the biggest superstars on the roster, and of course the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals.
Here is the perfect gift for any fan of Nashville hockey!
Hit or miss - not as insidery as I'd hoped for. Not really insidery at all. More of a collection of highs and lows from over the years, virtually all of which is already public knowledge. Perhaps as the author works in the media, he didn't want to get on anyone's bad side. The stories are competent if a little dull. 2.5 stars.
This was not "an inside look" at much of anything. It was a nice collection of memories of some Preds history with a little smattering of quotes here and there. Most Preds fans won't learn anything new from this book though, and that would be okay except that the whole pitch is that it's locker room access stories - but really it's just a fan's memories of some big games and big moments (albeit backed up with predominantly historically accurate facts from those moments).
Perhaps the book wasn't edited before publication because there were a distracting amount of errors - a couple in information but almost all in syntax, verbiage, grammar - but more like typos that nobody caught than anything else. Far more than a few times I had to backup and reread because of an error (like an extra word for example). Had it only been a few it wouldn't have been worth noting - this was more than a few.
If you're a big Preds fan looking to dig deeper, this is not that book - this is more a trip down memory lane. If you want to actually learn more about the team/franchise, read "Hockey Tonk" first (though it's kinda like reading a love story where you know the guy is horrible and leaves her in the end). I read a lot of sports non-fiction and this book is on my shelf as a Nashville Predators fan and nothing more.
short, sweet and simple. I enjoyed it reading it as someone who adores the preds. Most of these things I didn't know but grateful to be aware of now. there are different stories from the team, going from their first years in the league up until their 2018 season, as well as some behind the scenes of being part of the off-ice team as managers and the people around the arena who work hard for the fans and the team. was sad that I was not part of any of these amazing stories and milestones but hopefully preds bring the finals back to town :,) I think it's a very good book for someone new to the team, but if you've been a fan for long you probably will not find anything else but recollection of memories.
Its a great behind the scenes type book with meat anecdotes from present and past players and staff. You can tell the writer is also a true fan who loves hockey and especially the Predators.
This was basically like reading replays of games. While there were some good ones covered, the book overall was a bit boring, and the editing/grammar was terrible.
