NBA player, Leland McClain, the baby of the McClain family, is tall, handsome, talented…and spoiled. He’s a man who gets what he wants, and what he wants is the lovely Kimberly Hampton.
Kim Hampton is the director of a community center, a woman who lives to help others while trying to forget a troubling past. As far as she’s concerned, a relationship with any man is a horrible idea. But a relationship with Leland McClain? That’s just out of the question.
He has to have her.
She is undeniably attracted to him.
But will she lower her guard and let him hold her?
*****Note: This is a love story involving an older woman and a younger man which contains profanity and sexual content. If you do not like these elements in your romantic reads, this is not the book for you.*****
About the author A true southern girl, Alexandria House has an affinity for a good banana pudding, Neo Soul music, and tall black men in suits. When this music-loving fashionista is not shopping, she's writing steamy stories about real black love.
I don’t know who I wanted to beat up more: the heroine’s son or her mum. Jail for them both. 😑
Also, a moment for that model on the cover, fuckin hell! 🥲
I spend most of this book feeling sorry for the heroine. She has gone through it! At every moment in her life. She just couldn’t catch a break and it was exhausting.
Her happy ending was so worth it though. The hero adored her and she so desperately needed that in her life. She’s always been there for others but no one had been there for her till he came on to the scene.
The sexual chemistry? Off the charts. I wish the emotional connection was a bit more heightened but the heroine had a really difficult time letting people in, which made sense.
Her past was harrowing to say the least. Trigger warnings for domestic abuse. So, because of that, she was always on guard, more comfortable with a sexual relationship than a real one.
I’m just glad she’s found a family to call her own.
Hot Damn Leland McClain is the BUSINESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Damn I Love Him LOLLL!!!!
Leland McClain has it all, a smoking NBA career, the love of his family, his love for older women and still loving his single status. All of it goes belly up when he lays his eyes on Kim Hampton, a woman he has had his eye on when he was still with the Miami Heat. The issue with that is her son Armand also plays for the Heat and there has been friction between him Leland but nobody understood why. So when the opportunity to trade came up Leland took it because he wants a champion ship ring and he knows he won't get it with the Heat. So he heads to the St. Louis Cyclones and goes to the camp to help mentor and train young boys in basketball and runs into none other than Kim Hampton, the woman who has invaded his consciousness.
Kim Hampton has had the worst of luck with men, she always seem to attract the abusive and violent men into her life, so giving up on finding Mr. Right was a no brainer in her mind, plus she has her out of control sons who goes ape sh*t anytime a man looks at her. To say that there relationship is abusive definitely an understatement because he treats his mom as if, she were the child, in his over protectiveness to keep men away from her, he goes to the extreme. But Kim is tired of being alone, tired of the occasional sex hookups and is looking for something else, in walks Leland McClain into the King's Center and turns her small world upside down. Leland overpowers her with his presence, his freedom, his desire to be with her and only her, and the genuine love he pours into her, something she definitely has never experienced before.
Leland embarks on the ultimate mission, make Kim his period and if anyone gets in his way this includes her son will not like the wrath that will befall them. But Kim has issues, serious ones at that and if she is going to finally get the happily ever after that has eluded her, she will need to come clean so that she can be healed to finally allow the love she deserves. Because if she doesn't she will lose Leland forever.
Leland's family (especially his uncle) are hysterical, and they are a tight knit group. This was such a fantastic read and my first book by author Alexandria House and definitely will not be my last. I am off to read his big brother, Big South's book "Let Me Love You (McClain Brothers Book 1)" and can't wait to delve into his story too.
This was such a fun romance! Kim had a child very young and her son is now a 20-year-old NBA player. She works for a community center and meets Leland, an NBA player working at a camp at the center and he loves women who are older than him. He instantly takes a liking to Kim and they both work to help a little boy who is having trouble at home. One thing leads to another and they start a physical relationship. This book was definitely hot, and Kim and Leland had some intense chemistry. I liked how they had to navigate a relationship while Kim was trying to hide it from her son, who was super overprotective over her. Leland was patient with Kim, though he did get frustrated when they couldn't just be what they wanted to be. This was a great romance and I'm excited to continue with this series!
I have so many complicated feelings about this one because of the plot development, but it was still a good story and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. CW: verbal abuse, physical abuse, financial abuse, emotional abuse, sexual content and language
Let Me Hold You is the second book in the McClain Brothers series. Everyone knows that I absolutely loved and adored Let Me Love You last year especially because of Big South (Everett) as a character. Unfortunately I wouldn't classify this one as being as good as the first one, but it was still enjoyable. It focuses on Leland, the younger brother of Everett, who is a part of the NBA. He has a thing for older women, but has never found himself wanting to committ to a relationship. All of this changes when he meets Kim, an older woman who is the director of a community center. Their chemistry was intense and the sex scenes were hot; however, I think that that external conflict really really bothered me for some reason.
Prior to meeting Leland, Kim was involved in a string of abusive relationships that ultimately affect the mother-son dynamic she has with Armand. There's no way for me to talk about my issues with this relationship unless I talk about spoilers so please don't click to reveal spoilers unless you've read the book.
There were a lot of elements that I enjoyed about Kim and Leland's relationship specifically his patience with her. He wanted Kim to break out of her shell and to step away from being fearful of her son; however, he was patient with her and committed to making it work. I believe that Leland gave her the courage she needed to make better decisions for her personal life. He also engaged in some body positivity when Kim complains about being overweight. He doesn't allow her to bash her appearance instead he reinforces that he loves her body the way that it is. Their relationship does progress pretty quickly, but I didn't mind that dynamic. It was nice to see a man who was used to going with the wind find a woman that kept him grounded. And of course we were able to see small glimpses of Big South and Jo which I absolutely adored and loved. Overall, this was another good installment in the series and I'm excited to read the next brothers book!
Let Me Hold You was good but, it wasn't nearly as good as Let Me Love You. I spent most of the book ticked off at Kim. She constantly sabotaged her relationship with Leland because of her insecurities and her past. Her relationship with Armand completely weirded me out. It was borderline inappropriate on his part. However, the book was still funny, sexy, and raunchy with plenty of LOL moments. There was even a jaw dropping plot twist I didn't see coming. While I like book one better, I'd still recommend Let Me Hold You.
Absolutely loved the chemistry between NBA champ Leland and social worker, Kim.
However, how Kim allowed her son to disrespect her like that was unbelievable. And when the truth was revealed at the end of the story, of what Armand was truly responsible for, they would have been singing gospel hymns at his Home-Going Service. TRUST & BELIEVE THAT!
Nevertheless, there are no words for how hilarious Leland's uncle is! Great story!
This book, no lie took me into a rage at times. But the the ones that bring out the emotions are the ones that I love. This was also so dang good. Chains of abuse must be broken and I'm still concerned about Armond... But Leland made it all worth it. I adored him. Happy reading!
Oh Leland, will you be mine? I need more of “Lil Kim & Tyrone Jones.” The banter, humor, intense tie curling steam and serious drama — TW: domestic abuse
A grown and sexy African-American romance!! This latest installment of the McClain brothers & Xandria house doesn’t disappoint his story is on fire it’s funny it poignant and it’s real. Definitely five stars
Funny, sexy, sometimes raunchy. Plenty of laughs, and I liked the fact that the hero liked older women. That was the cause of several funny jokes by his older brother, lol. Such a great story with unexpected twists and important lessons.
Kim Hampton came off as a very strong and independent woman but she had some dark secrets and pain. She was a coordinator for a summer basketball camp for your boys. Leland McClain came to her camp to do some charity work during the NBA off season and kaboom, fireworks everywhere. The complication was that Leland used to be teammates with Ahmand, Kim’s son. This reminded me of that rumor about LeBron James’s mom with Delonte West.
Leland, a self professed lover of older women, just couldn’t help making a play for Kim. The interesting thing was that Leland seemed much more mature than Kim who had some serious boundary issues with her family specifically her son. But through this relationship, Kim began evolving and finding her strength to steer her own life. Leland was patient, but pushed her when she needed it. He was attentive, loving and just humorous. Their chemistry was off the charts and I just loved this one. My only complaint lies with the narration of the sex scenes. It continues to be cringy. But I just don’t have time to read the book so I will continue this series by audio.
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first one. Leland & Kim where cute but the relationship between her and her son was just cringe. Like sir BFFR.
I think my favorite parts where the updates on Everett & Jo🤭 I didn’t like Kim at alllll until she was in the hospital after the incident & I fully understand her actions. I hope I enjoy the next story more.
Let Me Hold You was such a precious story and I am just LOVING this author and I am really seeing why so many have raved about her books. This was such a unique set up as well, with the hero being drawn to a heroine that is older. But there is a sense of forbidden as she is the mother of a man he has played with before and is highly possessive of her. We have a heroine who became a super young mother, but has a history of being with abusive men and her son is highly controlling especially when it comes to men that she dates. So when Leland and Kim get together, they keep it a secret. But it does put a strain on the relationship and I enjoyed how Leland does stand up the heroine on this being kept a secret. He isn't ashamed of being with her and also doesn't think its fair to her son to have this hidden especially as their relationship gets much more serious. I enjoyed seeing the forbidden theme within this story. You all know how much forbidden romance just is my catnip. I also was so eager to see how the fallout would be handled. And yeah it gets intense but I did enjoy what is revealed in the end. I can't wait to keep going with this series and exploring more of this author's work.
I love an age gap with an older woman, younger man!
Leland McClain & Kim Hampton evolved into a beautiful couple! Although the issues with Kim's son & Leland's former teammate Armand was EXHAUSTING, this story was still very enjoyable.!
Mmmm, there's just something about these McClain brothers! Leland McClain, famous basketball player, is volunteering at a youth basketball camp at the local rec center. It's common knowledge that Leland is only into older, seasoned women. Kim, the director of the center, is not checking for Leland, and at first he believes she's not old enough for his taste (she's still older but only by 9/10ish years). However, circumstances lead these two to spend more time together, finding something in each other that has been missing. The only problem is that Kim's son is also a famous basketball player and hates Leland for unknown reasons.
The title of this book is apt because Leland just wants a chance to prove to Kim that she is worthy of love and a second chance at the HEA she's always wanted. Likewise, Leland is the baby of his family, and has never felt needed, but Kim not only wants but begins to need him in her life to show her what safe, healthy love looks like. And the SMEX BETWEEN THESE TWO?! Maaaaan, this author writes some of the best smex scenes I've ever read. They are smutty but sensual and romantic at the same time.
There are other layers to their story, mainly dealing with Kim's past love life and her overprotective son. Her son got on my NERVE but he toned it down by the end of the book. I assume he'll get his redemption ARC since he has his own book. Definitely can't wait to keep going with this series because I am hooked on these McClain brothers!
TROPES: black romance/OWN/BIPOC; older woman/younger man; famous/rich basketball hero; great family; single mom; reformed playboy; possessive hero; forbidden (hero is dating the mother of one of his rivals)
TRIGGER WARNINGS: domestic abuse/violence; death of a parent/grief
4.5 stars. This was so good, I'm really enjoying the series so far, both of them have been a big hit for me. But this one is a bit more serious as the heroine is suffering abuse from someone very close to her (don't wanna say incase of spoiler) and I wouldn't recommend this if it trigger you. I liked most of how this was dealt with and it's was someone else other then a partner that abused her and shows that abuse can come from anywhere. The romance was also very cute and strong between the couple and he was a good support. I liked that she was older then him, that's not something you see often in romance. However what stoped me to give it full five stars was that at least one time there was a very serious and intense seen emotionally and then just out of nowhere the scene as ended and their alone having loud sex. Ok so I'm not against smut but common. It was to soon after something very serious and it doesn't seem very believable that they would have sexy time right after. it's a pet peeves of mine. But other then that it was great!
These McClain brothers are something else and I love it. Just when I thought Everett stole my heart in book 1, here comes Leland. This was such a great story. Definitely not your average “cougar” story. I love how Alexandria doesn’t make you wait for the love story to get going. I also loved the humor in the book and found my self laughing out loud from start to finish. The narrators for the audiobook are amazing and I wish they could narrate every audio book known to man. I’m ready to meet the next brother in book 3.
Started off slow but when it picked up, it didn’t stop. I love Leland McClain and his relationship with Kim was absolutely beautiful. The relationship between Kim and her son had my feelings all over the place. I just couldn’t imagine that kind of pain and turmoil. A great read!!!
I really liked this story, and the hero, NBA star Leland McClain was EVERYTHING. Sexy. Attentive. Alpha. Sweet. Caring. I would have given this story all 5 Stars if not for Kim. I did like her fiery attitude with Leland and their chemistry was hot. I admired her dedication to her profession and the pain she endured in the past broke my heart. Yet, because of past mistakes she allowed her son, Armand to have too much control over her life. My mother had me at only 17, and had I behaved like Armand, she would have slapped me senseless--whether I was grown or not! 😳🤕Their mother/son relationship and their conversations throughout the story got on my last nerve.🙄 What they had was psychotic and unhealthy, and him constantly throwing her past in her face was demeaning, disrespectful, and ridiculous. And don't even get me started on Kim's mother who--after meeting Leland and was finessed by his charm--managed to do a complete 180!🙄😂
Like I said before, Leland was the man. I loved the way he loved on Kim. He didn't care that she was 8 years older than his 27 years, and he was never ashamed of their relationship. I mean seriously--35 and 27--not a serious age gap, and Kim couldn't keep using the son's age as an excuse because she had him at 15. Anyway, I loved how real Leland was with her, and I liked that he was a bit bossy, too! And he had a wicked and sexy sense of humor! LOL! Those little conversations with "Lil Kim" had me hollerin'! His family was also a riot! Loved them to pieces!
I understood Kim's hesitancy about her relationship with Leland. She'd been through some terrible things. But the longer she kept things between them a secret, the more frustrated I got. I wanted to shake some sense into her--"Girl?! You're a whole grown @$$ woman! Be with who you want to be with!" And what was with all the other secrets?! Of course, with Armand, it was only half of a secret because it didn't take much to figure out what he was all about from his out-of-control behavior and the way he treated his mother. What I couldn't fathom was how all Kim did was make excuses for her son. But that other secret?! I don't understand the purpose. Was it put in there to possibly explain why Armand was the way he was? Why not tell Leland so he could have been better prepared to deal with it?! Keeping secrets can be deadly, and this could have easily ended in tragedy.
Um. I'm not trying to cheat on Everett but Leland can get it! Is it possible that these McClain brothers can get even sexier? I was not ready at all! I am in love with the realness Alexandria writes with! It's no holds bar, it's passionate and I'm here for it!!
I didnt hate it, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the first (hence it taking me so long to finish). The mother-son relationship was just weird and I know its meant to be funny but the "lil kim" references were just cringy to me.
I was so nervous going into this book because Alexandria Houses 2nd in series’ tend to fall flat for me.
I LOVED this book, mostly because I loved Leland soooo much, and I’m glad Kim eventually got herself together and gave him the love he deserved.
Kim did irritate me throughout the book being so scared of her son. I was so confused on how it seemed she couldn’t see that their relationship was equally as abusive as the ones he was supposedly protecting her from. I understood in time what that was all about, but it was still frustrating going through that with her.
I can’t wait to meet the next McClain brother!

Leland McClain had no business being that fine and that persistent! Kimberly didn’t stand a chance and honestly, neither did I. This book gave tall, spoiled athlete meets guarded queen, and I was here for all the drama, healing, and heat. Alexandria House snapped! 💕🔥🏀
This was almost a 3 star read cause Kim about pissed me off but by the end I guess I was a fan of hers and it wrapped up well. I’d say it’s more 3.5 for me but I’m rounding up since the ending was okay and Leland was amazing. But for real, should I be consuming an over abundance of pineapple?!? 🤣
This book is sexy! Consistent! And beautiful!! I loved the struggle and the Romance. A great read!
Leland... the basketball player 👌 "I loved independent women, but at the same time, I needed to feel like they needed me."
She had a baby at 15, and now her son is a basketball player... Leland is his teammate.
“And I know I’m not easy to love. I’m crazy. I do stupid stuff. I overreact. I’m difficult to be with, but I’m glad you haven’t given up on me. I’m glad you love me, and I want you to know you don’t ever have to feel alone again, because you have me. And you’re not helpless, you’re strong and smart and talented and so powerful. You make me feel special. I love you so much, Leland.” Her
“I wish there was some way I could tell you how much I love you. I wish I could show you how deep in my soul you live. I wish I could make you see how much better my world is with you in it. I know I can’t do all that in a way that you’ll really get it, but I’ma try. I’ma spend the rest of my life trying.” Him
**Man obsessed with his woman **Older woman/Younger man **Chemistry 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
