Take a Ride with “the Boy” Through the Heart of the Last Great Era of Hard Rock!Drumming phenom Bobby Rock takes you behind the scenes to the genesis of his extraordinary musical from the moment he decided to become a drummer, to his fanatical practice and training regimen, to the destined path that led him from Houston to Hollywood—during the height of the 80s hair metal explosion—for a fateful audition with ex-Kiss guitarist’s, Vinnie Vincent Invasion. It's a whirlwind adventure through recording sessions, video shoots, extensive tours, and the “rock star” life—all set against a chaotic (yet amusing) backdrop of debauchery, dysfunction, and humor. It’s also one of the more engaging and insightful stories you will encounter about a boy’s impossible dream roaring to life during this most beloved era of pop culture, then barreling forward three decades into the present.Grab a seat, settle in for the ride, and rest assured…The Boy Is Gonna Rock!
Expertly written from a clear and focused mind, Bobby Rock answers all this unanswered questions we had surrounding his time playing with Vinnie Vincent. Not only chockful of stories but also very well written.
Very rarely do I give 5 star ratings, but this book deserves it. Drummer Bobby Rock tells about his time in the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, from getting the gig to the inside struggles throughout the short lived band. The writing is great with plenty of stories and pictures to keep fans happy. Fans of Kiss, Vinnie Vincent, Slaughter, Alice Cooper and anyone that loves 1980s music must have this book. I’ll admit that I cannot name a single song by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (VVI). However, I love rock ‘n’ roll biographies and memoirs, so I decided to give this one a try. I had never heard of Bobby Rock before, but since he comes from the hair metal heyday, I was eager to learn how he broke into the business. He does a fantastic job of sharing his story.
Author and renowned musician Bobby Rock succeeds in delivering one bona fide "wild ride." Honest, transparent, even-handed and incredibly well-written, I burned through all 300 pages in just three sittings -- as I literally was unable to put the book down. One of the most compelling rock memoirs I've read to date. Bravo, Holmes! (BTW, I read the print version)
Awesome Rock Story!! Very well written. I could not put this book down! I loved reading about your experiences with Vinnie Vincent Invasion and all the rock stories. I'm a huge Slaughter fan and hope to see you play with Mark Slaughter solo band and perhaps Lita Ford or Scrap Metal at a Rock Fest soon, Bobby Rock!! :)
An amazing book,Bobby Rock is just an amazing drummer and what a great heart,he is straight forward & does no bad mouthing like most artist he tells his point a view.Love that everybody he meets he keeps them as friends.A Great Rock and Roll Book
I've read a lot of rock/metal memoirs and this is one of the best so far. I seriously couldn't put this down. Rock's writing style is very engaging and, frankly, much better than most rockers. I was never a Vinnie Vincent Invasion fan (they disbanded shortly before I got into the genre), but I found Rock's behind the scenes perspective totally engrossing. It was also fun going back and listening to the VVI albums as well as other bands mentioned in the book like Slaughter and Nelson. There are big gaps in the book after the VVI days where we only get a whirlwind run down about what he's done since. At one point he says 1993 was a bad time for him but never says why. Still, if you're into the hair metal genre you'll dig this.
