An average, normal university student transmigrates into the royal family in another world, where he becomes one of the successors of the throne. Although it sounds nice, who would understand the hardships that come with it?
And thus, he should simply leave, conceal his identity, and disappear into the depth of this flourishing mortal world.
This was a beautiful, gritty story of betrayal, hope and, love. The transmigration and slow acceptance of Nan Ge Er's new reality and how he dealt with the crappy circumstances dealt with him by fate, how he recovered with the help of Mo Shu and people from the village. Even that twist near the end was unexpected yet amazing. Reading this was time well spent, loved it. 4 Stars.
I read this immediately after 魔道祖师 Mo Dao Zu Shi as I was so intrigued by the themes that I've learned are fairly common in Chinese literature - transmigration and wuxia.
Transmigration refers to reincarnation which, as you probably know, is the belief that souls "migrate" into a new body after death. 'Wuxia', or 'martial heroes', is a genre in Chinese fantasy that centralizes around the adventures of martial artists in ancient China.
This particular story details the journey of a modern day man who, after death by fire, transmigrates into the body of prince in ancient China. There he is met with torment and betrayal by his own brother before his body is discarded into the river to die. But instead of dying, our protagonist washes up on the shore of a strange, almost utopian village...
This story definitely has a greater emphasis on character development and self-exploration rather than action. In fact, there is very little action at all as it is set in such a peaceful and quiet town. Instead, we get to see our character rise from the depths of despair and learn how to find joy in living again. Despite the fictional setting, this is a greatly accurate and resonating depiction of depression. Our character often wishes for death, sees no pleasure in life, thinks he holds no worth, and cannot escape the pain of his former life. This emotional journey is juxtaposed perfectly against the tranquil and serene landscape, resulting in a very wholesome tale.
Partway through the novel, our main character is joined by one of the residents of this village who helps to mend him of his scars and relinquish him from the burdens he carries. They form a very loving and nurturing bond that becomes the forefront of the story.
Despite this being a heavily character driven novel, there is still an air of mystery and secrecy that exudes from this town. Is it as peaceful as it seems? How are these citizens living such bountiful lives despite the seemingly meager incomes? Why is there no mainland governmental control over this town? And why is our main character not the first person to wash up on this village's shore?
These questions and more exist quietly in the background, becoming more and more demanding before finally all is revealed in jarring turn of events.
If you are looking for more of fast-paced, gripping read, this is probably not for you. It's mostly a journey of self-exploration and love set in an ancient time period, with a few droplets of fantastical mystery.
I thought this was a very pleasant read - the only thing I wished for was a greater exploration of our main character's past. I think seeing some flashbacks would have made me understand and sympathize with him even more. In particular, I would have liked to see his mistreatments within the royal family, his brother's betrayal, and how our main character was feeling and thinking at those times.
" I can't treat the wound in your heart. I only wish that by making your favorite food, you will at least look forward to every day " Mo shu whispered, before raising his head to face Nan Ge Er. "People that have no expectations for tomorrow die easily "
Aww this is such a sweet and veeery slow burn romance story! Our main character transmitigates to this palace ancient era were end up being jailed and tortured by his own brither. While others though he's dead, some people from this strange village rescue him from the river and try to save him . As payment, he starts to work for them with interesting ideas .
This is a story of a modern day transmigrator, who died by fire, and got reborn into a prince of a prosperous country. He helped his brother to climb the throne, but all he got in return was endless torture and suffering (for 3 years), and left to die.
Until he got washed up on a shore near a certain village... where no one is normal, even if things seem like it.
Horribly scarred, both in mind and soul, Nan Ge Er finds himself on the road of recovery, where it becomes very hard for him to find the reason to live. As the story goes, NGE finds himself being accepted by the people there, especially Mo Shu, the leader of the misfits, while trying to understand that not all his hope is lost.
There are some loose ends, even though the main mystery is solved (and what a shocking twist it was in that certain devastating chapter), that could have been solved in more chapters, but the main point wasn't in the story plot itself, because the plot story is a road to recovery of Nan Ge Er, who seeks place to belong, who unknowingly longs for people's companionship, and who in the end found a person who longs for him.
Mo Shu is mystery itself. He's hardworking, always busy, considerate, but also playful, mischievous and has a very interesting survival sense and protective stance of his people.
Some plot twists came out of nowhere, but when you reread, you find out that there were clues, and if you skim through them, you won't see it coming until it's too late.
Overall, highly unique story with good combination of hurt/comfort and do i even have to mention: husbands!!!!
After all, Nan Ge Er has fought his way to the throne, so he's not completely all that innocent.
Novel blurb: "This is a story about recovery from trauma and finding happiness."
Novel content: This is a story about a man in power harassing, bullying and manipulating a trauma victim for years until trauma victim 'agrees' to a relationship with him. * 'Agrees' because true consent is not possible.
I kept waiting for the book to get better. It did not.
This might not be the best novels out there, but this definitely has a unique charm that can entice readers. This is such a satisfying slice of life novel that focuses more on healing one's soul over drowning yourself in hatred and revenge. The premise of Nan Ge Er's (MC) story has the tendency to revolve around dog blood dramas because of the betrayals, facing depression and such, but the route of the plot unexpectedly went to the direction of taking the relieving way to live. Xiao Nan finally found the people who really cares about him sincerely and the place where he really belongs, a place full of mysteries but strangely made him feel the contentment he never felt. This story really brought me so much warmth that I never expected I'd received when I started this. There were heartaches here in there sprinkled in the story but it was there to emphasize the comfort and sense of belonging that Xiao Nan achieved in that special place.
This novel is so heartbreaking and so heartwarming at the same time. I was on the verge of crying multiple times and I even thought this would give a painful ending, but I'm glad that all is well. This is a fast read with only 54 chapters and personally, it's really worth the read. I'm not depressed myself but I think I would recommend it to those who are. This has some really good lines about persuading someone to live and someone trying to continue living persistently after experiencing an excruciating life. A really great read! I would actually recommend this to anyone!
This is one of those daily lives heart warming stories, i think. Nothing breathtaking or revolutionary, but there's something charming about the way the story is presented that made you want to read on and on.
This story is more on the comfort after the hurt, and the slow progress of recovery and getting back on your feet after tragedy.
I like it enough, and the antics of the side characters can be pretty funny and entertaining.
Mehhhh 5/10. While I found the PTSD and Trauma processing interesting, “slice of life” books are too slow for my taste. It was rather repetitive and inconclusive, while also completely skipping a “villain” confrontation that I thought was rather needed, both for the plot and trauma healing. In short, it was addressing issues without taking action or reaching resolution so… 🤷🏽
i wanna cry. this comforted me, and i still wanna cry. let me be honest here. i wasn't super into this novel at the beginning, probably cause i was expecting a more obvious hurt/comfort approach, but this isn't obvious at all. it creeps up on you with all the nice scenarios and cute scenes and then it jumps you and stabs you in the chest. no better way to put it. nan ge er is such a nice main character, seriously. his past is really interesting, and it's wonderful to see how he develops into this new person, this product of everything that's happened. then there's mo shu, and he's an ideal person until he's not, but then he's still great and wonderful and deserving of hugs and kisses and everything. this is a novel on hurtful pasts, difficult decisions and cruel paths, but it is also completely filled with comfort and healing. although it isn't the most exciting story in the world, it might be one of the nicest to make you feel warm. i love it. i really do.
When I had picked it up, I was amazed with Protagonist's healing journey which in mid way felt too slow and made me put book on hold.
No after months, when I read from start to end, I realized how both lead characters have fair share of suffering and trauma. How they comfort each other and heal from that pain was best part for me.
3 stars for the way author handled healing process and its aftermath.
The writer is either the most genius troll ever born, or has some serious issues (it's hard for me to believe anyone would mean this seriously).
This is NOT a heartwarming story about recovery from trauma. I don't know if the other reviewers and readers read some other book by the same name or what, but this one is anything but positive. It's basically a horror novel, and I'm not kidding. What the hell. Since the writing itself is not very skilled either, I still have trouble deciding what the author's intention even was. This story is absurdly uncomfortable and jarring, be careful.
This is a story about a trauma victim being manipulated and emotionally coerced into submission by a band of psychopaths (in the medical sense), and the author's reasoning and explanation for ML's INSANE behaviour is so out there nobody in their right mind would buy it in a million years. It's not cute and it's not funny. It's perverse. NOT in a good way.
Regardless of the awful content, the writing itself is rather poor, with poor sentence structure, plotting, plot holes all over, unlikable flat characters that are absurdly stereotypical, repetitive scenes and dialogues, all the works.
Ceritanya sweet & fluffy. Tipe slowly burn romance. Ceritanya tentang perjalanan self healing MC.
Maybe 1.5 stars? It was kind of boring. The story and romance were kind of interesting, but there just wasn't enough here for as long as the story was. It can't even really be said to be a story about healing because the MC's trauma is barely addressed. It was mostly about the town and the MC's life in it, which was mostly just dull. It probably would have been a good story if it were shorter or if it focused more on the MC recovering from what happened to him.
Not quite a 4, but almost there. Upon rereading, I noticed a lot of intricacies and interesting world building that I hadn't appreciated before. There's some interesting philosophical questions to think about outside of the plot (which is cute with sprinkles of sad (past) and overall peaceful and lovely).
A very cute, slow romance that develops beautifully. This novel focuses on healing after only living a life full of vengeance and hatred. It focuses on being content with life and the feeling of wanting to live again.
Note that this is a slice of life novel, not much of anything happens. That doesn’t mean it isn’t good. It’s a slowburn that focuses on healing.
It’s not rushed and feels like they just complete each other? They help each other and accept each other as they are. It’s a strangely comforting book that brought tears to my eyes. This isn’t a very light type of read, but it’s wonderful for someone who’s in a darker place mentally. It talks a lot about death and sadness, and finally being able to want to live again
NGE struggles a lot with wanting to live. Especially the normal, carefree life he’s currently living, but the people around him start changing that. It’s not just the ML, but the whole town that helps the MC want to live life again. They aren’t perfect people, they’re people who’ve gotten their hands dirty like he had in the past. But they allow him to let go of that past and move forward as a different person- as a person who doesn’t need to get his hands dirty, instead that they’ll make sure he can live peacefully. That they would take care of it for him. to make sure he’s protected and safe.
I also feel like some people might not like how This is sort of major spoiler? But I feel like if others do read the novel, they’ll probably come to the same conclusion? It isn’t to excuse his younger brothers actions
If I had to describe it in one word I would say unhinged.
I started reading this book with the preconception that it will be about a cute couple trying to find joy in living while dealing with trauma as most reviews mention only that. I was wrong.
The fact that the only place where the mc could actually find the will to live is in a hidden town full of abnormally gifted people is underwhelming to say the least. Also, if things weren’t already preposterous, it turns out the ml is a psychopath who regularly goes on a murder spree…I’ll be honest, I might be a bit unfair here because there is greater meaning to the ml personality but that is precisely why I was even more disappointed. In order for this utopian town to live in peace, their leader (the ml) needs to be raised as a ruthless person without emotions whose sole reason of being is to protect the town and the people in it and who believes everyone living in the outside world is disposable That’s why it was disappointing to see the story slowly diverting from the basic concept introduced at the beginning of finding meaning in life again through the simple things because it turns out the mc is not dealing with simple stuff at all. In order to be in peace he has to immerse himself in absurdity.
However, if I read this novel with no misleading concepts, it’s absolutely genius! Regarding this story with a different perspective helps understand the comparisons with real life and how much truth we can derive from it. After all, considering the current political and social climate, it’s not surprising that we can’t find peace in our lives unless we go live in a idyllic town full of psychopaths 💀
Anyway, I would really suggest to read because the main couple was still wholesome but be prepared for unhinged plot twists 😭

Spring Trees and Sunset Clouds by Wei Lang is a tale of both healing and believing. Although tediously slow at the beginning, the novel picks up good pace in the second half and we begin to learn more about our characters. We discover their pasts, go over their fears, understand their traumas, and see them come out of it all together and very much in love. The couple is able to provide each other with the warmth and hope both of them needed but have been devoid of for so long. This makes them a very lovely and interesting pair to read about. The depictions of rural life and romance was very well done and relaxing to read! I think the novel also does a great job at raising questions of what it means to live in a perfect society- how much and who do we sacrifice? Is it moral? Is it worth it? Nevertheless the people of the town deeply care for each other and this care slowly transforms our main character from a scared, broken, depressed individual to a confident, healed, and wilful one. This arc was very pleasent to read and personally touched me very much. The only reason for my 3/5 rating is, as mentioned before, the slow pace of the first half which made me almost drop it. Our characters feel like strangers until we reach ch 25. However, I do recommend reading this if you're looking for a break and need a pick me up! It does the job wonderfully!
I enjoyed this book quite a lot! I was a little bored at the very very beginning until like chapter 25 (this is why i minus 1 star) but im glad i persevered! I enjoyed the ending a lot. The pairing is so cute and i really enjoyed their dynamic. What I really appreciated from this book is the overall theme of learning to enjoy a peaceful life. Our main character Nan Ge Er at the beginning of the novel had no aspiration to live on but by the end he found a life for himself with people that support and cherish him. He didn't feel the pressure of his previous life and got to live mellowly. I love that for him! He also found someone to cherish, ahem Mo Shu who its so funny to learn how OP he is. Thank you to exiled rebel scanlations for translating this! I also want to mention that the author Wei Liang seems like such a good person judging off of a response they left to a comment :
"It might be a simple, mundane life or perhaps a life with hardships, but a blissful tomorrow is always right ahead. Only after enduring the present darkness can it be reached. No matter when it is, don't be blinded by the darkness in front ~ Just walk straight ahead".
I feel like the author really encompassed this idea into their novel Spring Trees and Sunset Clouds. Such a feel good book. Loved.
dropped this after seeing some spoilers for the end... didn’t feel worth it.. because of the fantasy tag i thought the town would be mythical in some aspect. but looking at the spoilers i don’t understand why this is tagged as fantasy. is it because it’s a transmigration story?? i really don’t kno.. i liked the first 1/3 of the book! the slice of life vibe, the super friendly townspeople, the kind ML, the whole plot of how the ML is recovering from trauma... it was all really good and lovable. i really liked how the MC became a storyteller for the town and just told modern stories with a historical twist. i wish the story had more of his interactions with the kids in town because it was seriously adorable how they would gather around him to tell him all about the little gossip amongst them.. i think the “mystery” of the town was kind of...... lackluster... i expected more? i’m glad i spoiled myself as i would have definitely ended up disappointed in the novel
