Christmastime in Gold Valley, Oregon, means hot chocolate, snowy nights and one very sexy cowboy holiday surprise…
There’s only one thing Chloe Nolan wants for Christmas this year—and he wears a cowboy hat and is completely off-limits. When her mom married into the Reid family, Chloe found her calling, working with horses on the ranch. How could she risk that newfound stability by revealing her crush on her stepbrother, Tanner? But when Chloe and Tanner get snowed in on their way to a family gathering, it’s just the chance to extinguish the flame that’s been burning for too long. One night. One wish. One bed…
She’s the woman Tanner’s always wanted—and vowed he’d never touch. Yet when Chloe reveals her secret wish, all those years of pent-up longing erupt with life-changing force. Now it’s Tanner’s turn to take a risk, and turn one magical Christmas night into the beginning of forever…
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Maisey Yates lives in rural Oregon with her three children and her husband, whose chiseled jaw and arresting features continue to make her swoon. She feels the epic trek she takes several times a day from her office to her coffee maker is a true example of her pioneer spirit. In 2009, at the age of twenty-three Maisey sold her first book.
Since then it’s been a whirlwind of sexy alpha males and happily ever afters, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Maisey divides her writing time between dark, passionate category romances set just about everywhere on earth and light sexy contemporary romances set practically in her back yard.
She believes that she clearly has the best job in the world.
This story was included at the end of A Tall, Dark Cowboy Christmas (which I received for free from Harlequin as part of their Bookstagram Christmas mailing).
Since this was a novella, it was pretty short and that was my main issue with it. The whole romance happened at lightning speed so it felt rushed. This would have been better as an actual novel so that the feelings and emotions could develop more fully.
I was also not the biggest fan of the step-sibling trope. It felt a little weird, given the fact that I didn’t know much about the characters (I never read any of the previous novellas). As I mentioned, the romance happened fast so that made the step-sibling trope even weirder. I do have to say, Chloe and Tanner do make a nice couple minus the step sibling thing.
But for what it was, it wasn’t that bad. It’s a quick holiday romance that’s short and sweet with a little bit of holiday spice.
Snowed in with the Cowboy is a short novella in the Gold Valley series by Maisey Yates.
A winter storm, Christmas, and one hot sexy cowboy.
The Gist: Chloe and Tanner are step-siblings who have secretly been hung up on each other for forever. They don’t want to mess up the family. What would the siblings and her mom think?
Chloe and Tanner where nice. They have this teasing thing going on and some awkward moments since they’ve known each other so long and that they both like each other. They’ve been their for each other and supportive throughout the years, so you see that they care and love.
As for them shaken up, well I get why neither wants to rock the boat. It’s a bit forbidden in away with them being siblings, but they aren't biologically related.
For me the novellas in the Gold Valley series are nice, but they are missing something for me. They are really quick and things move fast. I feel they need more depth and time to draw out the characters to make them more real and have me connect.
Narration: This was a bonus novella in A Tall, Dark Cowboy Christmas narrated by Suzanne Elise Freeman. She did a good job with the novella. I liked the voices for the characters.
Overall, Snowed in with the Cowboy was a nice listen.
Snowed in with the Cowboy is installment 3.5 in Maisey Yates's western romance series titled Gold Valley. I found it as a bonus short story available at the end of A Tall, Dark Cowboy Christmas. It's a sexy, forbidden romance about stepsiblings who get snowed in together. They are adults and the parents are now divorced, but their family dynamics have prevented any relationship up to this point even though they both have had secret but significant interest. Due to the novella format, things go hyperspeed which brings minimal emotion to the story in my opinion, but overall, it was an easy and enjoyable read. *For followers of this series, the main characters are Chloe and Tanner.
My favorite quote: "But I'm in a different part of my life now, and I mean to keep on changing. Not sit and never grow. Like plants, when your roots start to get too big for the pot you're in, you need to transplant yourself."
I've been waiting for Chloe and Tanner's story. They've been side characters in the previous Reid Brother stories (all the .5 novellas in the Gold Valley series). They're stepbrother and sister, and it's been obvious that Chloe had feelings for Tanner, but I wasn't sure where he stood.
Always love a stranded-together-in-a-cabin sort of romance, where the couple must finally face their attraction. Snowed in with the Cowboy was short and sweet, low on drama; exactly what I was craving late last night.
Chloe doesn't really care for Christmas gift when she can't have what she really wants : her stepbrother. But wouldn't it be great to lose her virginity with the man she loved for so long ?
When Chloe's mom married his father and Chloe entered his life, it made Tanner see all the good things that was in his world, things he took for granted before. But the fact that she was too young for him and that he didn't want the family dynamic to be different kept him from doing anything about his attraction for his stepsister.
This Christmas, Tanner's brothers and their new family rented a cabin. Tanner and Chloe are invited but bad weather stopped them from joining the gang and they'll have to seek shelter in a lodge, where they'll finally have to deal with the desire and their feelings for each other.
I can't get enough of this author's work so it's always cool when there's an add novella with the regular book. There's just one problem for me with this one : the step-trope. I don't know what it is with that, but if I remember correctly, it's like the third stepbrother/stepsister romance that she wrote and the fact is, I'm not a fan and something about it makes me uncomfortable. Nothing in the author's work is icky or something like that, it's just a question of taste, nothing else. Tanner and Chloe didn't act like a family, but they still grew up in the same house and I can't be totally invest in a love story in this context.
This is a Christmas Cowboy Novella Romance, and this is the 3.5 book in the Gold Valley series. I have to say the storyline was not for me. I did not hate this book, but the trope used in this book is just one I do not like. I found parts of this book good. I do think the story was really developed for being a book under 100 pages.
When I saw this in the back of another Maisey, I couldn’t help but read it first.
I’ve liked the little snippets of Chloe that we saw in other books, so I was excited to see her get a story. Tanner was definitely in his head as much as I expected, but he also surprisingly opened up.
Plot wise, it was good. The problem with a novella, is that it’s never enough and this is a story that definitely could have done with a full book. I would have liked more on how their feelings grew, but it worked.
Overall, it was quick and enjoyable read with characters I’ve always liked.
**Huge thanks to HQN Books for providing the arc free of charge**
Short and steamy story. Years ago, Chloe's mom married Tanner's father, giving Chloe three new brothers. The problem is, the oldest brother, Tanner, never felt like a brother to her. She's always had feelings for him, and they've gotten stronger the older she is. She has a great job working with the ranch horses and terrific relationships with Calder and Jackson and their wives. She doesn't want to risk those relationships by revealing her feelings for Tanner.
Tanner is caught between a rock and a hard place. The family is gathering at a cabin in the mountains, and he and Chloe are the only ones who haven't left yet. Bad weather has made it inadvisable for Chloe to drive her car, which means riding with him. Tanner is not looking forward to being cooped up in his truck with the woman who has driven him crazy since she turned eighteen. Lusting after his stepsister is all kinds of wrong...
I liked the relationship between Chloe and Tanner. They know each other well and have had a good influence on each other. Tanner taught Chloe everything she knows about horses and gave her the confidence to work with them. Chloe's arrival at the ranch and her wide-eyed wonder and appreciation for it opened Tanner's eyes to everything he took for granted about it. This made him appreciate it more. Neither has let on to the other about their "inappropriate" feelings, unwilling to rock the family boat.
Then Chloe and Tanner get trapped by bad weather on their way to the family get-together. They get the last room at the hotel - a room with only one bed. Chloe can't take it anymore and confesses to Tanner about how badly she wants him. Tanner is stunned, but there's no way that he can resist her. Both agree that it's just one night because neither wants to deal with family reaction. The problem is that once just isn't enough. Tanner realizes that Chloe is it for him and is willing to take a chance. But Chloe is afraid to trust that Tanner's feelings will last. I loved Tanner's determination and laughed when he sought advice from his younger brothers. His big moment at the end was sweet and romantic, as he systematically countered all of her fears. I also loved the epilogue - especially Chloe's Christmas present for Tanner.
Snowed in with the Cowboy was a short holiday novella about a couple stranded during a snowstorm.
Chloe Nolan has had a crush on Tanner Reid for as long as she can remember, but not wanting to risk the stability of life on the Reid ranch, she has never expressed her feelings. Tanner has wanted Chloe for years, ever since he noticed she'd grown into a beautiful woman, but not wanting to upset the family balance, he's kept those feelings hidden. When Chloe and Tanner end up delayed by a snowstorm on their way to the family's holiday celebration, the attraction between them becomes too much. With just one night together, they're sure it will be enough but fate has other plans in mind.
Holiday novellas are some of my favorite romances to read and this one had the potential to be a favorite except that I missed one aspect of the blurb. Step-sibling romances are not my thing, particularly when the pair grows up together as is the case here (Chloe's mother married Tanner's father when Chloe was twelve). Don't get me wrong, Chloe and Tanner have amazing chemistry and their scenes together are quite steamy. I just can't get past the step-sibling thing enough to enjoy their romance. If it's not a trope you mind then I would highly recommend this story. It has a great holiday setting, the wonderful trope of there's only one bed, and forced proximity due to the storm.
The one aspect of this story I did love was getting to see the other couples in the Reid family which originally appeared in other books. My favorite thing about long running romance series is getting to revisit past couples and this author does that wonderfully in her books. Plus I really enjoyed the Reid family in previous books and the scenes of them together for Christmas at the mountain cabin were wonderful.
Overall while I didn't love the romance aspect in Snowed in with the Cowboy, the story was still an enjoyable holiday novella. I do recommend this series if you're looking for great small town romances.
So this was a short story but it was one of my fav troupes step siblings how forbidden. I was holding my breath through out the whole thing.
I was rooting for and crying for Tanner and Chloe. I wanted it to be a full story, I wanted more family reaction on wanted that wedding. but I fived what I got because it was amazing. highly recommend to anyone.
This was a short, sweet novella. Chloe Nolan has had a crush on her step-brother Tanner since in her teens. When they get snowed in together on their way to a Christmas holiday celebrations, she learns that he feels the same way about her. If they act on their feelings, will it ruin everything?
This was a predictable story that ended with a happily ever after. There was some angst about whether acting upon their feelings could cause a problem with their working relationships. There was also an issue with the thoughts of the other family members. It was a quick story that complemented the next one in the series that I was also reading. Nothing extraordinary, just a sweet romance.
A short story of Christmas family and the feelings between a step sister and step brother that have never been talked about. The family is headed up the mountain to have everyone together in a cabin for Christmas. The weather turns had and a night in a lodge half way to their destination changes things for Tanner and Chloe. As always a good story by Maisey Yates.
Christmas, a winter storm, one hot sexy cowboy who you've been lusting after for years aaaaand...getting snowed in with said cowboy at a small town lodge? Christmas wish come true!
The hitch? Well, that cowboy and that cowgirl are step siblings who've been secretly hung up on each other since forever. And, sweet Mary, what would their siblings and mom think if they gave in and had their way with each other?!! Erms!
Yall. Chloe and Tanner. I liked them. They have a fun teasing thing going on from knowing each other so long. And they have some awkward because omg wanting to see your step-sibling stark nekkid and, erm, telling them such a thing. And they had some sweet because they really do love each other. Have been there for each other over the years, supported each other, made each other better people. It was easy to like them.
And want to shake em because man alive they're a little bit of a handful and slow to figure things out. lol But I also got it because their relationship-- even though they're in no way biologically related--was rocking the whole taboo vibe. And could easily cause trouble with their family.
Overall, Snowed in with the Cowboy was a fun winter quickie with a slightly naughty side. It was fun seeing them take each other on. Heat things up, have a little growl, break down and figure things out.
I have been waiting for Chloe’s story for a long time and I was not disappointed! The is a wonderful step brother story. The fears of having the entire family finding out and the trust it takes to get past those fears drive this story to the top. I have read all of this series and have loved every minute of this one. In the other books the author would get too much into the inner struggle and go on for 4 or 5 pages of doubts and it would just be too much; but not this book. This is a wonderful love story in a family setting. You will be routing for Tanner and the snow while praying for Chloe to see her worth.
I love a great Christmas read, great cover and love that is has an HEA ending. i have read a few of Maisy's book now ... look forward to more very very soon. ( :
Chloe was in love with Tanner, but the big problem, he was her stepbrother. How could she let her feeling be known? She was worried about how her family would react. Story is well written and engrossing from beginning to end. I could not quit until finished. VERY Good. I highly recommend.
I love this series. The brothers all got married and started there family's, and I was so Happy to see Tanner get his wife also. Hey fit so we'll together .
This was one of the better novella’s that I have read in quite sometime, and this was the best novella out of all three Reid brother novellas. A big part of it was that Chloe and Tanner knew each other and had for years with all this built up attraction and feelings bubbling beneath the surface until finally it was released. Having that established relationship right away especially in a shorter format, made it so much better and more believable since this was building over time and not just having the two characters meet in the beginning in the novel then magically fall in love, which was the case in each of the Reid brothers story aside from Tanner. For me this felt very plausible and natural as Chloe and Tanner began to realize their feelings for each other in this scope of the book. Plus it helped that their relationship was teased in the previous novellas, which helped to grow the anticipation when finally this one arrived so that helped as well.
I just really enjoyed seeing the whole Chloe and Tanner relationship develop in this one. First they denied their feelings for each other then they finally succumbed to their attraction and connection to one another. It wasn’t overall emotional, but that didn’t make it any less poignant or pivotal to their lives. There was just this spark between them that just couldn’t be extinguished and carried through the entire book.
The passionate scenes between them were very satisfying and very steamy and again very important in establishing that connection and closeness between them that they had been denying for so long. It was a long time coming for both of them and was very much reflected in their love scenes. I love after the second love scene was the big revelation scene for Tanner as he realized the love that he had for Chloe, and it was such beautiful moment. His love felt very pure in that moment and he couldn’t not contain it in himself a moment longer. And it refreshing that Tanner was the one to make the first declaration instead of Chloe because usually in a romance it’s flipped flopped where the heroine is the one to tell the hero her love before he does. I really appreciated that.
The emotional side of the story was good too with both Tanner and Chloe having to deal with their own emotional demons along the way. There were some heartbreaking moments as they dealt with wounds. There was a lot of raw exposure going on both sides as they explored this new aspect of their relationship and the way it was written was good and had a nice flow to it. Again the content was very much there without feeling really rushed. And I really liked that it was explored not just easily dealt with like some novellas tend to do.
Also this was the first novella out of the three where I felt like this length was just enough. It wasn’t too short nor too long. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. There was enough balance between all the elements that make a romance a romance. I didn’t feel it was rushed at all. I didn’t wish that it was a longer format like I did with the first two novellas, which could have really benefitted from a longer format. It was enough and really didn’t have me wanting more.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novella especially out of the first two novellas that were in this series. It was just enough with the balance between the love scenes and the emotional scenes where it felt totally plausible with no rushing to the finish line. The fact that this one had be teased in the other two novellas was definitely a benefit as well as the fact that Tanner and Chloe already had an established relationship before these stories every began. There was that attraction that had been surrounding them for the last eight years or so and it finally broke during Christmas season, making it feel utterly romantic that their first time was during a snowstorm they were stranded in and had to be faced head on. They had to confront all these feelings as they finally came to realize what they had wasn’t going away anytime soon. This novella just really worked for me, and it was worth the wait after having read the other two novellas. I can see myself reading this one again in the future.

I used to really like Yates. I just do not know what happened. Maybe Yates and I are just growing apart. I was just expecting more, even from a novella.
There were some minor editorial issues, such as "to" instead of "too." Normally I just gloss over it, but this is short enough to catch. Plus I am obviously grumpy that the book I picked to extend my re-reading of Skip Beat! turned out to be dud-ish.
Here is what I thought was stupid: *the forbidden nature of stepsibblings falling in love. I either didn't realize this would be that kind of relationship obstacle when I bought it, or I did and forgot about it for like 2+ years. Maybe I thought, "I liked Marmalade Boy, I might like this too." We will never know. *4-wheel drive does not magically let you drive well on icy roads. As someone who lives with snow, I hear a lot or people say this for winter weather and driving. Please note that ice does not care if you have 2-wheel or 4-wheel, it doesn't change that stopping is nearly impossible. *for a snowed-in story, they were only snowed in for like 20 pages. They spent most of the time at their house and then the cabin after being snowed in. *the road was cleared ridiculously fast for an avalanche that blocked a tunnel and a snowed-in a mtn pass. *loving someone does not mean you cannot also protect yourself. Being in a relationship requires a person to be vulnerable, but not that a person cannot protect themselves. Self-care is protecting yourself. Getting yourself out of a bad situation is protecting yourself. *I cannot believe how fast Chloe and Tanner went. In my opinion, it was implied through Chloe emphatically saying she has done absolutely nothing, that she went from first kiss to engaged in like 3 days. 3 days. Then a yr later they are married with a baby on the way. It's like a Lifetime movie posing as a Hallmark movie.
It is a sweet enough story, I guess. But they talked a lot, which felt a lot like lectures. I don't know. Other people like this. I might be done with reading new stuff from Yates though.

This book was either cheap or free on kindle, so I got it. I usually read Christian romance, so this was outside my norm. I was a little weirded out by the fact that this was her step-brother, but it was no different than the movie "Clueless," where adult kids' parents are married (or already married and then divorced, as in Clueless). In this story, I thought it was weird that the two lived in the same house. Ick.
i honestly don't know what to rate this book, but mostly because i was super freaked out about the slight incest theme. the writing was very pretty and the scenery was romantic as Chloe said. the main scenery was pretty cliche but the description was gorgeous:)
"Snowed in With The Cowboy" by Maisey Yates is masterfully employs taboo romance and forced proximity tropes to deliver a heartwarming story. Despite its brevity, Yates manages to beautifully convey the deep connection between the characters, making it a delightful read for romance enthusiasts.
The story revolves around Chloe Nolan and her stepbrother, Tanner, set against the festive backdrop of Gold Valley. Chloe's longstanding crush on Tanner, juxtaposed with her fear of disrupting the stability she's found in her new family, creates a compelling internal conflict. Tanner, on the other hand, is portrayed as a character who's intensely aware of Chloe, yet bound by his own vows to keep their relationship platonic.
The turning point in their relationship, facilitated by them being snowed in together, is a perfect example of the forced proximity trope done right. This scenario not only intensifies their existing feelings but also brings them to the surface, allowing both characters to confront and acknowledge the depth of their emotions.
One of the highlights of this story is the supportive nature of their family. It’s refreshing to see a family that recognizes and respects the happiness of the individuals involved, even in a situation that might conventionally be frowned upon.
The rapid progression to a marriage proposal, while surprising, can be seen as a culmination of their long-standing and deep-rooted understanding of each other. While it does escalate quickly, Yates manages to make it feel like a natural progression for Chloe and Tanner, considering their history and profound connection.
In conclusion, "Snowed in With The Cowboy" is a tantalizing and heartwarming read that successfully blends taboo romance with the magic of the holiday season. Maisey Yates has crafted a story that's not only about love but also about taking risks for happiness. The book leaves you wishing it was a full-length novel, craving more time with Chloe and Tanner in the snowy, romantic setting of Gold Valley. It's a perfect read for those who enjoy a quick, passionate, and festive romance story.
This was a Gold Valley novella and I'd just finished reading 'A Tall, Dark Cowboy Christmas' and really enjoyed it, so I went straight onto this one as it was also a lovely Christmas-themed story, lots of snow and Christmas feelings, perfect for this time of year.
Chloe and Tanner are step-siblings, but haven't felt very sisterly/brotherly to each other for years, but each has been hiding it for fear of upsetting the family dynamics. Chloe's Mum married Tanner's Dad and moved to their ranch when Chloe was just twelve. But since she was about eighteen Tanner has definitely not felt brotherly towards her, but just tries to keep away from her because of it.
But this year the weather is bad and the snow heavy and because the whole family is leaving the ranch to spend Christmas in a cabin this year Chloe and Tanner end up driving together as they are the last ones to leave and Chloe's little car wouldn't cope with the bad weather moving in. Unfortunately the weather moves in quicker than expected and they both get stranded in Granite Ridge, along with loads of other stranded motorists, and have to spend time in a lodge there, sharing a room as there is only one left.
Of course being in such close proximity things come to a head and they end up together, but then each starts panicking a bit in case they upset the family dynamics if they give their relationship a go, but work it out in the end.
This was a really enjoyable story, full of snow and Christmas feelings. A lovely series.
I’m enjoying the smaller stories this author has been adding to this series as it goes along. Sometimes I have issues with the .5 books, especially when an author uses it to give us more info on an already beloved couple and somehow ruins the things I loved about that couple. But Maisey Yates has been using the .5 part of this series to tell us new stories of a family that’s not involved with the winery and dude ranch that take up the bulk of the full number books in this series. It’s really been a lot of fun to get these short stories to give me my Gold Valley fix between the other books.
Since I have been reading all of these short stories, it was no surprise to me that Chloe and Tanner would get a story and a HEA. It didn’t play out the way I would have expected. Although I knew Chloe didn’t usually have an issue speaking her mind, the way she speaks up for herself with Tanner in this one shocked me. The girl has guts!
Of course, I also thought the big road block for this couple would be their relationship as step-siblings. While that is used as an excuse by both Tanner and Chloe in this story, that is not what the overall obstruction ends up being.
My Quickie Review: A snowed-in trope combined with a bit of forbidden love...falling in love with the stepbrother. I'll admit, I'm not usually one for the stepbrother story line, but this one worked for me. And that maybe because I'm a huge sucker for the snowed-in trope.
I liked Chloe and Tanner together and the reasons both for why they've resisted for so long and given in now worked for me. Oh, and I forgot the virgin trope. Wow...for a novella, this story really had a lot packed into it...and that made it a good read. It didn't feel like a novella.
The romance happened fast, but these two have known one another for years, so that worked. Overall, I liked it. It was a satisfactory little romp into the forbidden along with all the happy that a small-town family Christmas book brings. Tanner and Chloe were both really likable characters, although Chloe got a bit wishy-washy there for a little while.
It was fun and cozy and romantic.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest and voluntary review.
This story had you hooked from the very beginning. The characters were fill bodied and even though at first unfolding this strange relationship was a reach, you rooted for them. I'm not sure how this would've played out in reality but it was a vert good read. I loved the passion the two of them together had and loves how the heroine was passionate about the land and having a family too. The reaction of the family could've been explored more because I would've liked to see how They felt about the family dynamic changing a bit.
The dynamic between Chloe and her mother was awesome. I Over how the Mom explained things to Chloe to help her understand the struggle of parenting. Especially single parenting and how even though mom was trying to get it right(while looking for love in all the wrong places),she genuinely loved her daughter and tried to do the best for her despite the everyday stress of parenting bon subsistence. Very realistic conversation with her daughter.
