COMBUST (Underground Encounters #7) by Lisa Carlisle is an addition to the VAMPS paranormal series of novellas. In this book we return to Maya’s and Nike’s stories, best friends who have been permanently changed as they have learned of the paranormal world and found their soul mates from that world.

Michel and Nike were unsuccessful in finding a solution to Nike’s condition after being attacked by a vampire. Nike can still live in daylight, but she has an uncontrollable thirst for blood. Nike withdraws from everyone except Michel to protect them from herself. Now she has a decision to make, to continue as she is or to let Michel make her a true nightwalker.

Maya is so happy. She and Tristan are planning their wedding and she wants her best friend as her maid of honor, but Nike refuses because she is afraid of hurting an innocent guest. Maya has never liked Michel or the idea of her best friend becoming a nightwalker, but even so she is devastated when Nike turns her down. Maya not only has to deal with Nike’s choices, but her adoptive parents reveal some information about her past that explains some things about Maya’s talents.

This novella is a quick read that I could not put down because I loved all of these characters in their previous individual stories and this novella updated their character development. Instead of just a line or two in a new couple’s story, I got to follow both Maya and Nike in-depth. I always enjoy returning to the VAMPS world.

It's About Time......

I was always very curious to find out what happened to Nike after she was attacked by vampire Ricard during the fire at Vamps 2 years ago. Although she found the love of her life in vampire Michel and owner of Vamps at the time. Michel even sold Vamps to travel Europe in search of a cure for her, with no success. After she attacked a woman in a bloodlust nearly costing her life she has cut herself off from her BFF Maya and the world afraid of what the monster in her might do...Not wanting to continue between 2 worlds, she must make a decision that may cost her the love of her life. or her life.

Maya misses her BFF Nike and wants her to be a part of the most important day of her life, but she won't return the 100's of calls she has made. Afraid that vampire Michel may have drained her, she seeks her out only to find that she may have lost the only true friend she has ever had.. As her wedding to Tristan nears she decides to ask her adoptive parents if they know anything about her blood relatives and what she discovers throws her for a loop.

Nike, Michel, Maya and Tristan. When Nike was attacked by a vampire trying to get back at Micheal an she has been having a hard time with her physical reaction so Michel sold the club he owned Vamps to Tristan and he fixed it up and transformed the downstairs area into a lab he is a witch and he knew that when he met Maya that she was special because she had a light aura around her instead of the dark that he was used to seeing around most people he and Maya fail head over heels and have been together every since even though they have been through some trying times too. Maya is having a problem with her heritage and she is also upset when she goes to talk to Nike and Nike refuses her request. Tristan and her parents try to help her through it. Michel loves and is trying to help Nike they have been over in Europe and now living in his house but she is so upset and feeling so out of sorts that she ask Michel to do something special for her if not find some one who can. There is so many different situations happening with the two couples that it is pretty exciting. Adult content. I am reviewing a copy as a gift by the author without obligation.

Omg! Another story, and even better than the previous 5 star books?! :o Actually, I’d give "Combust" 6 stars if I could :D Tho I never write spoilers or recap blurbs, I do know when a page-turning book is a must read for 18+ adult fans of fiction & especially those who love contemporary paranormal, fantasy, dystopian & also Sci-Fi genres :D ... Even tho I always volunteer to read this author's books, it is without any outside influences & I bought my own copy to keep, too :) I honestly recommend this fantastic 7th story, hell, I actually recommend all of the stand-alone, yet connected books in the amazing ‘Underground Encounters’ world, and I bet you'll become addicted, too, just like me! Now it's back to waiting for more, but of course I will for any of Ms. Carlisle's works ;)

Nike love Michel but is having issues after being bit by a vampire. She is so upset about how she drank from an unwilling woman when the blood lust hit her. She;s pushing people away including her best friend Maya. Maya goes to Nike to ask her to be her maid of honor but is pushed away by her best friend. So many problems to overcome. Nike finally comes to the decision to undergo the last part of becoming a nightwalker and asks her boyfriend Michel to turn her. Maya and Tristan learn so many new things about each other especially about Maya's true parentage. Then tragedy almost strikes on the most important day of their lives.
Oh my goodness! This is a totally fantastic story about how lives change and then fall back together.

We first met Nike, a firefighter, in the first book about Underground Encounters: Smolder. There have been a few others (6 more), but this was the book that started it all. There were a few loose ends that I keep wondering about. Go read that first book if you have not, it is a journey worth taking.
Nike and her lover, Michel, traveled to Europe after Vamps burned and Richard a rogue vampire bit Nike. Nike is living in a world where she is not quite human and not quite a vampire. They were looking for a cure and found nothing to help Her cravings for blood have escalated and she is becoming a danger. Nike is confused and frustrated. She takes this frustration out on her friends and Michel.
Maya her best friend is getting married and wants Nike to be her Maid of Honor. How can she participate when she cannot be trusted around humans. She declines because of her uncontrolled bloodlust
She must make the decision to become a vampire and wants Michel to help her. Is this the right decision? Can you give up basking in the sunlight and witnessing beautiful sunrises and sunsets?
Nike is conflicted about her life, Michel, her best friend Maya’s Wedding and where and what is her purpose now.
This book was once again a rollercoaster ride that had you on the edge of your seat. It is definitely a page turner. I loved catching up with character I have known and loved. I loved, loved, loved this book.

I had a ball reading this book. Although I did not have the chance to read the previous books of this series, I did find that it was easy to follow. The action was constant and the characters were awesome and very relatable. There was a good balance of the human vs the supernatural world. There was a bit of information relating to the past books, which is why it was so easy to follow. Still, would have been nice to see a bit more new info and not as much past references, but that is just me. I can be picky when it comes to my books. But it was awesome to see a nice mix of the different supernatural species that we see in other books. Vampires, humans, gargoyles, all living in harmony, I am all for that.

I love these ongoing novellas.
Nike, a former firefighter, had been attacked by a nightwalker (vampire to us) although she hadn't been drained, she didn't return to her former self. Michel and Nike traveled to find a cure and had returned, unsuccessful. What would they do? Would she continue in this in-between state? When she lost control with a human, only stopped by a gargoyle bouncer (learned in earlier episodes)
She had to make a decision that could change things forever. The decision had to be made soon.

With Maya and Tristan's wedding approaching, if she was to stand up with her friend she couldn't do so in her current state's lack of control. They'd had a hard time getting back to the closeness they'd once had. Besides the friendship issues, Maya gets some information has a hard time accepting.

Another great read in the Underground Encounters series.. best read in order.
We return to the story of Nike and Michel.. After Nike was attacked by the vampire Ricard she hasn't been herself..Strange symptoms and a craving for blood. They have traveled Europe together to find a cure..But have found none..
Soon she has to make a life changing decision..
As Maya and Tristan's wedding approaches, Maya asks Nike to be a part of it..But instead Nike refuses..And cuts off all contact with Maya, and with her love Michel.
Maya turns to her adoptive parents to find more about her past..Boy is it eye opening for all..She has more questions than answers.
I can't wait for the next in this series....Great read, had a hard time putting this down.

If you read the first book in this series Smolder than this is your answer to a lot of things that were left hanging and I would recommend that you read that book first before reading this one.

This is Nike's tory well hers and Michaels she was bitten at Vamps in the first book and is having trouble handling the blood lust that it has caused Michael sold vamps and they have been travelling around Europe to find a cure but nothing is working The only answer may to be turned and Noke asked Michael to do it but can she give up sunlight There are plenty of twists and turns in this wonderful story and plenty of answers to unsolved questions

What the Future Holds


Maya and Tristan Nike and Michele

loving the gargoyle series and now we're going back to visit characters from those books in this book we are back with Maya and Tristan. Or Nike and Michael I guess it's equally both their stories more their back story and what their future is going to look like.

I do suggest that you read the other books to get an idea of these four characters otherwise I believe you would be lost when it came to this story. The authors done a great job including all four characters and giving you a well rounded storyline to pursue what these guys have been experiencing with the

This book is about maya and Tristan and their wedding. But also about Nike and Michel. Maya want Nike to be her maid of honor but Nike can’t trust herself with humans so they have a big fight. After that Nike decides to finish becoming a nightwalker. She has been stuck between human and vampire for over two years after being attacked by a enemy Michels. But maya is finding out more about herself she may be a descendent of Peli the goddess of fire and volcanoes. After someone starts a fire on their wedding night everything seem to work out find for both couples. So enjoy the read and see how they all find theirHEA !!.

This story has two Arcs running through it and they are woven together beautifully. Nike has come full circle and makes an agonising decision she thinks she can live with but doubts set in leaving her struggling to survive. Maya has her own obstacles to overcome, fortunately she has Tristan to help with some of them. One thing all parties learn from this, they are better & stronger together.

I have not read any of this series before. I sort of feel like I have started in the middle of a movie. I need to catch up and figure out were I am at. It is a good story and the plot is starting to make some since. Maybe I need to start at the begging of the series to get what all is going on. I love getting to read more about two of the couples from previous books. Always wanted to know what would happen with Nike and I’m glad we got to get more on her and Michel. Add in the HEA for Maya and Tristan with their own little twists and this is a great book. Make sure to read the previous stories so nothing will get spoiled for you.

Loved finding out more about Nike and Michel since their book and finding out about Nike. Also great to see Maya and Tristan again. Lots going on in this story with both couples. I enjoyed this update so to speak which reunites old friends. You learn how Nike is handling her new life. She wants to be there for her friend but it is not easy. Maya wants her to be part of her wedding and is dealing with her own changes.

Great read

I had so much fun reading this book, I love Nike and Michel's characters and how they intertwined with Mayà and Tristen.

Great book. I bought the whole series. I had to have it. It is a definite read again.
