This would have easily received more stars if it was just proofread. First, there were misspellings and grammatical errors. Second, the inner dialogue went on way too long. And third, big continuity issues with the lawyer. Was it a he or a she? It actually used both in one sentence. This could have been a cute story but it was hard to get past those three things.
Kindle Unlimited Ed. - I liked this book but the reason I only gave it 2 stars simply because I HATE when authors choose to fudge the amount of pages in a book. Yes she does warn you that there is another book as a bonus, what she doesn't say is that there is actually two. This book ends about 21% in. I only read the first book. I looked at the second and then discovered a third, got irritated and returned the book. There is a reason I don't read book that are less than 300 pages. The reason simply is that they end up either being incomplete or rushed. With all that being said/end rant
Story line - The book itself is good. Nothing spectacular. It could have been better given some length and time to develop the characters. The book does have the characters explain everything away with the overused "I knew this was fast, but it felt right". There were several things that happened in the book, but at no point did it feel over dramatic. I honestly thought that there were several things that could have been drawn out. This book had great potential. The characters were easy to get along with, the only issue I had was with the little girl. Her vocab didn't really support her 3 year old characterization. If anything she seemed maybe closer to an older 4 or maybe 5. The main reason for the book resolved in a few paragraphs. The bad guy? Taken care of but you knew it was happening. This is what happens when a book is too short.
This was a cute light hearted read, but like most short stories, things were resolved a little to quickly. He gets mad and then yells at her, he's forgiven the next hour. Things of that nature.
The grammar and typing - there wasn't a lot, but there were was some. I'm not sure if authors need better editors/beta readers, but somethings should have been an easy catch. Also using a different font or italics would have improved on scenes like the letter from the grandma. Also spacing or small symbols to show different days or when the setting changes would have also been helpful. The later being important so the reader doesn't get lost.
I wouldn't re-read it, so for that reason, I liked it. It was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it a friend as a must read.
I actually read a lot of Rye Hart's work, usually it is a simple read. I will say that this is one of my favorites! There was a substantial plot and the characters grew as the story progressed! You have Brian who is a wealthy recluse, apparently having a wife that was only with you for your money can really put you off getting involved with anyone else. He is actually the sole provider for his cute niece Lanie, his sister has passed away and now the dead beat father is trying to start things to get money out of Brian. Amanda has inherited her grandmothers home and is determined to make her dreams as an artist come true, of course her ex thinks this is a supreme waste of time and has no problem telling her day and night. The two of them meet by chance but the feelings that they develop for each other are remarkable. Honestly this was a very sweet story, I would recommend to everyone!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Pretty decent story and some amazing smut. The stories after the first were decent as well, which was a surprise to me since the last few pure smut novels had ok first stories and then crud afterwards.
This book had so much potential. I liked the storyline, but there was so much contradiction. This book would greatly benefit from an editor. It's not just grammatical errors. Brian's lawyer was referred to as a woman and a then man. Amanda has a rental car then her own? Brian was financially set for most of the story, but it didn't seem so at the end. I can't say why, because I don't like to post spoilers. Some parts of the story were just not believable at all. Brian had some serious insecurities, and took them out on Amanda. These are just some of the issues. I really wanted to love this book, because I did like the concept of it. There were just too many errors to overlook. I did read this book in one day though, so if grammatical errors don't bother you, you may enjoy this book better than I did.
Brian and Amandas chemistry was undeniable from the start even though they were both in bad places in their life to start a relationship. They way Rye wrote this story was beautiful and sexy. It was an unbelievably addicting read from the start for me. I volunteerly am leaving a honest review in exchange for an ARC.
This is a really good story. A man that is taking care of his niece just might have to get married to keep her. Brian just wants to take care of his niece and live his life in the mountains. When the neighbor shows up out of nowhere and disrupts his quite maybe its a sign. Amanda's grandmother passes away and leaves her a cabin. That happens to be next to Brian. When Brian's custody is threatening he is in need of Amanda's help. Can the two get along long enough for him to keep his niece? Good story and I did enjoy the characters. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.
Tired of putting up with an ex who constantly put her down and made her feel hopeless, she is leaving. Sitting on the plane her cell phone buzzes from the text....her stupid ex. UGH, well that is done and over for Amanda. She is moving back to the one and only place she has known as home. The cabin her Grandmother owned, and she grew up in basically. With her Grandmother's death she was willed this cabin, and she is going to get back her life.
Secluded and peaceful, that was the first reason he moved up here, but in the last few months he has inherited his niece, and this is a much safer place to raise her. Brian knows that sound he is hearing, that is a car pulling up the road. Anger and resentment hit him first. Trying to ignore it, spending time with the Nanny and his niece, Lanie, is all Brian wants to do. When that scream happens, there is no more that can he done, other than go and find out if that girl that came up to that cabin is ok.
Seeing her stuck in the stairs literally is how Brian finds Amanda, stuck. He pulls her out and can see right away that her ankle is pretty bad, as are the cuts and splinters she has going on. Without thinking he carries her to his cabin just up the hill from hers. First aid kit in hand Brian gets to work, Amanda and Brian are uneasy around each other, but little Lanie to the rescue.
Exchanges of food back and forth between houses has Amanda, Lanie and Brian talking and getting to know each other under the guess of repaying the favor. A knock on Brian's door reveals someone that should not be there and has his blood boiling, it also has a threat of Lanie being taken from him. An appointment with his lawyer is made, and now the Nanny can't come to watch Lanie. Amanda's cabin is just down the hill, and this is very important. With that in mind Brian makes his way to Amanda's cabin, she welcomes him in and gladly accepts the opportunity to watch the little girl. Amanda is very fond of that little one, and working on being extremely fond of her uncle. Brian is so visibly upset he is shaking, and Amanda tries to calm his nerves.
The hiding out from each other's feelings has been done and can't happen anymore. Things heat up and fast. Only thing is there is a weirdness between them afterwards. Distance and just things being off. The day arrives for Brian to meet with this lawyer and from the day he asked until the time he is set to leave has had nothing of talking, exchanging dinners. But Amanda comes to watch the little one. While at the lawyers, Brian learns of some secrets that may take that little girl away, he is also given an idea.
Back home, after things have settled for the evening Brian and Amanda discuss this option. Both have trust issues, both want freedom but most of all both want what is best for that little girl. Plans are agreed upon and set into motion. The other thing set into motion is feelings. Strange appearances from her ex, a fire, little twists starts showing, and testing Amanda and Brian. The fact that it takes BFF's on both sides to show these two what is right in front of them all along is what causes the bond to form, and discussions are in order. However, there is one surprising twist that takes place and names used by that little girl to both Brian and Amanda. All of this opens their eyes and allows them to keep their hearts open. Their feelings are exposed and the heat just burns hotter. A happy little family finally together forever, and then another surprise hits, making this a very happy beginning to many things to come.
Amanda’s grandmother had passed away, leaving her home to Amanda who was now reading the letter from the estate attorney. She got on a plane and flew out to North Carolina to start over, with her ex-boyfriend harassing her with text messages the whole way until she turned off her phone.
When she got to the cabin, Amanda was speechless. The pictures were misleading, and the cabin was in very bad shape. No one had apparently cared for it since her grandmother went into the nursing home. It was filthy with dust, a window was cracked, the wooden porch was splintering and the façade was fading badly. She had no money for a motel, so she was going to have to do what she could to fix up the cabin.
Chopping wood for the fire, Brian heard a scream! Leaving Lanie, his niece, with the nanny, he ran to the neglected old cabin. Inside he found a woman who had fallen through the stairs and was stuck. He pulled her out and set her on the couch, while her eyes looked him over – he had forgotten that he was shirtless when his wood chopping was interrupted. Her leg was bleeding and she had splinters that needed to be removed, so he carried her to his home where he had the medical supplies to bandage her.
With Lanie asking to take chili to “Amana”, Brian finally agreed. But the cabin had nowhere to sit. So they all went back to Brian’s cabin – much to his discomfort. The phone rang, and Brian’s lawyer told him Lanie’s alcoholic, drug-user father initiated a custody dispute – unless Brian would pay him $4 million instead!
Brian drove to town to meet with his new P.I. who was investigating the dirtbag father. His lawyer was there too. Apparently Bob had filed his paperwork, along with “proof” – highly likely forged – that he was married, drug-free, and lived in a spotless house. Unless Brian could quickly find a wife, Bob would most likely win the custody battle. Full of panic, Brian drove home, updating Amanda and quietly telling her how she could help . . . by agreeing to marry him! Would she be willing to do that? Would she trust him enough? Would they be able to win in court if she married him? Could they convince the judge?
This is one of my favorite authors. She always writes from the heart and pulls the reader into a tight hug with her beautiful stories. I say this about each book, but I think this one was my favorite! I was so in love with that little girl, Lanie! She was absolutely adorable. And Brian and Amanda, though each having trust issues and lots of problems to work through, were likable and would easily have the reader cheering them on. Get yourself a copy of this book and see what you think! There are many more twists and turns coming for them, and you will want to be there with them!
Rye Hart has penned yet another delicious story for us here and, as an added bonus, there is another story included in the book!! Rye always creates characters that I can relate to and she grabs my attention at page 1 and maintains it throughout the whole story - often leading to lack of sleep. But who cares about sleep? Brain has not had an easy life and when his sister and her husband are tragically killed he is given custody of his three year old niece, Lanie, who is a real little sweetheart who he is bringing up in the mountains of North Carolina away from the troubled world. All is going smoothly until the cabin down the road is suddenly occupied by a young and feisty woman called Amanda whom he can't get out of his mind. Amanda inherited the cabin after her grandmother died and , as things hadn't been going too well after college, she decides to give up her dead end job and dump her boyfriend. Brian and Amanda keep meeting and Lanie loves Amanda as she is missing her mum and really loves being with her. Trouble really begins when Brian's brother-in-laws brother decides that he wants Lanie. Whatever can he do to keep Lanie as he loves her? Maybe that pesky Amanda with her maddening ways and whom he can't stop thinking about might help? Dare he ask her to marry him but, obviously just for show to keep Lanie? How will Amanda react? Rye's words fly across the pages and you have to try to keep up and you don't want to miss anything as this is so good. The chemistry between Amanda and Brian is off the scales and with every meeting it just escalates till the sizzling tension has to go somewhere and what a somewhere it is! Lust, passion and tender love too all are involved in this love affair as that is what it becomes. But will they marry and , if they do, will they still be able to keep Lanie as an integral part of their family? To find out you need to get a copy of this like I have and enjoy the journey they travel to their HEA. Bonus material is also included and very well worth the time reading. Enjoy! This is a must have read and probably my favourite book of Rye's.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have read a few other books by this author.

She is flying back to North Carolina to move there from New York City. She is ready for the next chapter of her life to begin.

Brian goes and finds Amanda stuck in the staircase - the wood planks gave way and trapped her. He goes to her and lifts her out. He takes her to his house to provide first aide on her leg that is badly scrapped up. Pulling individual splinters out of her legs.

Another great book by Rye Hart! Sweet, sexy, steamy and a little heart warming! Always pulls you in with the great writing!
Amanda Scott returns to the mountains in North Carolina after failing miserably in New York. In love and in her career. Sure she has her degree in art but its not that promising. Not to mention that she is returning to her newly inherited cabin from her deceased grandmother. Memories alone will hurt her but the shape of the cabin seems to be in shambles. But all is not lost when she falls into the stairs and is rescued by her new sexy rock hard neighbor. Things might be looking up. Seeing to the bright sight of things.
Brian Murphy moved to the mountains to get away from everyone and everything after a messy divorce that exhausted him emotionally and monitarily. For 3 years it was just him and the wilderness. That is until he inherits his deceased sisters daughter. Lanie is now 3 and its been a year of an adjustment to say the least. And his new neighbor throws him for a loop and he is not the only one smitten with Amanda, his neice Lanie is head over heals for her. Making new friends is not ideal but now that he has Lanie he cant just communicate with the Nanny only.
These two have great moments with and without little Lanie and yes there is a douchbag psycho ex and a druggie bio dad that get into the mix. However, these two somehow find a way to navigate their new friendship and begin to fall for one another if they could only get their communication on the same page.
Hiding is no longer an option! LOVED this hot, heart beating tale
When you need to get away, what better place than the mountains?! That was Amanda's thoughts when she split up with her controlling ex, then found out her deceased grandmother had left her the cabin shed grown up in. Ready for a fresh start, she determines that her childhood home is not in good shape, but the man who comes to her rescue when she falls through her stairs is! Her neighbor Brian may be a gruff sort, but is easy on the eyes with a cuter kid to boot. Too bad he's a frustrating mess, that apparently doesn't have any manners like the small girl Lannie does! The attraction between the two is there, but both have trust issues and good reasons to for them, when a knock at the door for a "wellness" check turns into something else entirely- these two hideaway mountain neighbors find they need each other in more ways than one! What they do with that information.....
Alpha Moutain Man Love and protection here we come! A beast of a story, with so much heart~ I am a sucker for the gruff men who turn to mush for their kids! Between the back and forth sexual tension and the stubborn pride of them both this rollercoaster of feels was a spectacular! Turned out to be a take me by surprise, well written sexy feel good story had me hooked kind of read!
**I normally do not read the extra stories in the back, but this one I gave a go, and actually thoroughly enjoyed! Especially The Moutain Mans Second Chance!**
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. Amanda's ex Daryl was demeaning & controling her. When she found out her deceased grandmother had left her the cabin, that was the opportunity to start fresh, somewhere else on a Mountain in North Carolina. That was Amanda's thoughts, she determines that her childhood home is not in good shape, when falling through the stairs and cursing out loud enough for her neightbor to comes to her rescue. Brian who lives with his niece in the cabin near hers, is not a hospitable person, gruff, but eye candy, doesn't have any manners like the small girl Lannie does! At first he doesn't want her in his home longer than necessary, but cause she's badly scraped from her fall, he take care of her leg. He act like a a**, cocky guy. There is the instant attraction between them, thee both have trust issues, sizzling tension, connection. He's king of mean, so you would leave him alone, but lannie keeps destroying his plans !! But little by little did he know he was going to need her for lanie's parenthood. Her biological father, Brian's brother-in-law, was to go to court to get 'his girl'. So both neightbors will need each others help, like a fake marriage to save Lanie and him to save Amanda from her ex-boyfriend. find they need each other in more ways than one! Will Amanda accept the fake-marriage proposal, to save Lanie ? Love and protection here we go! Between back & forth sexual tension, stubborn pride, rollercoaster of feelings, full suspens, tensions, surprises, the all package was well written. spectacular!
A great single dad, younger women older man romance, both damaged by bad relationships. Amanda heads home to No Caroline to her childhood home. She broke up with her mentally abuse boyfriend. She just wants to focus on her art and her dream of owning her own gallery. Brian moved to the mountains after a bitter divorce, leaving his company in the hands of his best friend. Then his sister dies leaving his niece in his care. His new neighbor is an unwanted distraction. Lanie adores her, and his nanny is playing matchmaker. When Lanie's dead beat biological father make a push for money or he will fight for custody of Lanie. Amanda agrees to become Brian's fiancee. Sweet and steamy. Great epilogue. Loved Brian and Amanda. Their besty Jack and Sarah were great secondary characters. I was hoping that maybe they would hook up. Lanie is adorable. Tanya, the nanny, mother's Jack and Amanda as well. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. I bought a copy, in support of the author. I love her books. She generously included a few of her other books, one never before published, The Mountain Mans Second Chance, which I loved.
The Mountain Mans Second Chance A sweet and steamy second chance romance between former high school sweet hearts. A chance meeting being Jack and Sydney back together. A jealous, control freak boyfriend, leaves her with amnesia. Jack poses as her husband to protect her, knowing that when her memory returns she will hear him. Loved Jack and Sydney. Nice epilogue to wrap up their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Brian is taking care of his neice because his sister died. The biological dad is a drug addict & drunk and only wants Brian’s money doesn’t really want the kid. So Brian has left his security business he built & is living secluded in a cabin in the mountains. Amanda grew up in those same mountains in a cabin not far from Brian with her grandmother because her mom was an addict & her grandma took custody of her. So when she found out her grandma left it to her she left her life in New York, especially since her ex boyfriend was being a pain & didn’t believe in anything she did with her art & made her feel useless,Plus she broke up with him a couple months before that., she moved to the cabin in the mountains. She just didn’t realize it was in as bad a shape as it was until she walked in & ended up falling thru the stairs. Brian didn’t want the distraction of her - his ex-wife used him for his money & thought that’s all women would want him for. Plus he needed to protect his neice. When things start getting ugly with his neice’s dad His lawyer suggests him getting married. Amanda & Lanie already hit it off so good & she really wants to help him. She agrees but unfortunately they start having true feelings for each other. What happens when they don’t need to keep up the pretend anymore? Both of them can’t think straight & feel like it is wrong but won’t tell each other how they really feel. Is it going to be too late once it is all said & done?
I loved loved this read so much that even though I received an advanced copy I had to buy it ! The story of a recluse, Brian, who is living on a mountain with his niece, Lanie, and the woman who owns the cabin next door, Amanda, who inherits It after her grandmother passes away. Brian doesn’t like being around people and avoids them like the plague but he can’t ignore Amanda after she shows up and worms her way into his life. When a threat is exposed to Lanie with someone who wants to take her away, he formulates a plan, ask Amanda to fake marry him so he has a better chance of full custody. What could go wrong ? This story has been done a many times and I have read a few of them but this one really stands out. I loved these two and how open and honest they were with each other, how Brian opens up to Amanda and vice versa. There is no skirting around the issues, no lying, no secrets, no miscommunication, no misunderstandings, the chemistry and sparks fly off the pages, the honesty and openness between them is really really refreshing, Brian isn’t a man wh*** and makes the read that much much better and sets it apart from the others along with all the points above and more. Not only that but it’s a read that made me smile from ear to ear with just enough drama to keep it flowing and engaging. There are many other points I could make about why I loved this read and in my opinion...it’s my favorite and best from Rye Hart worth more than 5 stars !!
Brian is a single ‘Dad’ raising his 3 year old niece Lanie, after his sister dies and he obtained custody.
Amanda having graduated college with an art degree and living in New York, is still trying to realise her dream of owning an art gallery to sell her art. Currently working a dead-end job and then breaking up with her unsupportive a$$ of a boyfriend, when her grandmother dies, (who was more like her mother, after she raised her). She finds out she’s been left in her will, the mountain cabin where she grew up. Deciding to cut her loses, Amanda decides to move back home and live there until she sorts herself out.
Brian has gone through a lot of heartache in his time and just wants to live his life, with Lanie, in solitude on the mountain. Then his life becomes complicated when Lanie’s biological father finds them and threatens to take her and he struggles to keep custody of her and then he finds the cabin next door is now occupied!
Amanda finding the cabin in a bit of disrepair, finds herself chatting to Brian and he starts to help her out. But then the more he interacts with Amanda, the more old feelings start getting stirred up - feelings he wants to keep hidden!
Brian having major trust issues, can't deny the attraction he feels, but can they both get past their issues and build the family they both want?
I voluntarily Reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This is the story of Brian Amanda. Brian is a recluse living in the mountains raising his niece Lanie. Amanda's grandmother passed away leaving her the house she was raised in up in the same mountains. Amanda is devastated to see that her childhood home is practically falling apart. She meets her neighbour Brian when he comes to her rescue when she hurts her leg falling through the decrepit staircase. Brian has been hurt before and is angry he has a new neighbour but there is something about Amanda that makes him feel things he doesn't want to. Brian starts off a little gruff but he softens up quickly especially when Lanie bonds with immediately. Brian and Amanda have an immediate attraction and their bond grows quickly. Problems arise when Lanie's deadbeat biological father sues for custody. Brian proposes marriage to Amanda in order to show the courts that he has a more stable life for Lanie. The two want what's best for Lanie but hey are worried about the others true feelings and whether this marriage is the best thing for their hearts. This is a quick, sweet and very sexy read. Brian and Amanda have amazing chemistry together and the sex scenes are scorching hot! I really enjoyed reading this story! I voluntarily read an arc copy for my honest review!
Rye Hart is one of my favorite authors, and once again I was delighted with the plot and storyline. I fell in love with the characters Brian and his new neighbor, Amanda. He’s a recluse since his ex-wife drained his bank account and his heart so he found solace in a mountain cabin with his 3 year old niece, Laine, who he has been raising since his sister’s death. Amanda inherited her grandmother’s cabin and has decided to move to the mountains since breaking up with her boy friend two months ago. Plus, she hopes the mountains will be a good place to sell her paintings and pursue her dreams of opening an art gallery. Things get complicated when Lanie’s douche of a biological father decides to seek custody of his daughter just to bleed Brian of money. Brian will do almost anything to keep his niece and fortunately Amanda will do anything to help him, and when Brian comes up with a hair-brained idea, Amanda proves that she means just that. Great sexual chemistry between Brian and Amanda help blur the lines between fantasy and reality. The sweet, adorable Laine will melt your heart as these three find their HEA. My only complaint is the number of editing errors. While not enough for me to reduce my 5 star rating with the wonderful writing, I still find it annoying.
WOW! So good I read it start to finish in less than 12 hours! This book has an intriguing story line, and lots of Rye’s “hot encounters”. Amanda graduated college with an art degree and is living in New York. Her dream is to own a small art gallery and sell her art. The beloved grandmother that raised her dies and leaves her the mountain cabin in North Carolina where she grew up. Since she is in a dead-end job and broke up with her non-supportive college boyfriend the month before, Amanda decides to move back home and live there. Brian has gone through many losses and betrayals in his life and has secrets of his own. He just wants to stay on the mountain, isolated from the world, and raise his 3-yr. old niece. When he finds out the cabin next to him that has been empty for four years is now being occupied, he is not pleased. Because of his niece, he finds himself getting involved with his new neighbor; stirring up feelings he wants to keep hidden. Read what happens when two independent people find out they just might need each other and have more in common than they knew. No innocent virgins or unexpected pregnancies, just a good story with a HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Another awesome read by Rye Hart! Amanda is at a crossroads. She broke up with her loser boyfriend and her art career is not going as she hoped. She has inherited her beloved grandmother's mountain cabin in North Carolina. She has so many beautiful memories of her time in North Carolina. After her dad ran off and her mom became an addict, she lived in the cabin with her grandmother. She decides to return to the mountains to start her life over. The cabin is in worse shape then she realized and she knows she has a lot of work ahead of her. Brian is living as a recluse and raising his niece after the death of his sister. He avoids people as much as possible. Brian has no time or desire for any relationships. He was burned before and refuses to go through that again. He has serious trust issues and tries to resist his attraction to Amanda. He also doesn't want Lanie to get too attached and be hurt again. Gradually Brian begins to trust Amanda and he sees how much she cares for his niece. When his custody of Lanie is threatened can he trust Amanda to help by agreeing to a fake marriage? And will it really be fake? Read this book to find out!! Not to be missed. 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Oh I really loved this book, Brian is a recluse who is raising his niece Lanie after finding out that his sister had died in a car accident. He has lived with him for about a year and he knows that she is in a safe and happy home, Her biological father is suing for custody. Amanda has inherited her grandmother's cabin and has decided to go to North Carolina and see about it. She has just gone through a nasty breakup (her ex just wont get it). When she gets to the cabin ( a place where she grew up) it is in horrible shape, Yes it has set empty for the years that her grandmother was in the nursing home before she passed. But the pictures the lawyer sent her of the cabin shine a much better light on the actual condition it is in. When Amanda meets her neighbor for the first time she is speechless at how gorgeous this big bearded man is Brian and Amanda have an instant connection but when things with Lanie's biological father start spiraling out of control, He asks a huge favor of Amanda. and she cannot help but say yet. From what they both went through during their childhoods (and Brian's failed marriage) they both have trust issues. But Amanda says yes because she has fallen in love with Lanie and knows that being with her uncle Brian is the right thing. I LOVED this book
Let’s face it; it’s fairly common to find a recurring theme in a work of fiction. In this book, Amanda and Brian are two individuals who meet after coming out of bad relationships. Brian is involved in a custody battle with his niece’s birth father. Amanda and Brian agree to marry to aid Brian’s quest for sole custody of his niece. Amanda and Brian have communication issues. And, the list goes on.
Because there aren’t many new themes in fiction, an author is often challenged to make an old theme an interesting and enjoyable new read. In Rock Hard Neighbor, that is exactly what Rye Hart has done. Amanda is a strong woman who doesn’t lose sight of what she want’s in life and she doesn’t hesitate to stand up to her jerk of an ex. Brian’s trust issue is completely understandable; especially when the history he had with this ex is factored in. Both, have longtime friends who offer unwavering support and unadulterated honesty.
Yes, this book has a theme I’ve encountered very often in other works of fiction. Yet, it is a book that captured and retained my attention from beginning to end.
I received an advance copy of this book and am I voluntarily leaving a review.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advance Reader Copy. ILOVED this book! Amanda Scott is staring fresh back at her grandmother’s cabin in North Carolina. She’s shed her ex-boyfriend and gotten away from his controlling and unsupportive ways and is going to pursue her art back home. To her dismay, she finds the cabin in disrepair, even partially falling through the stairs. Luckily, a white knight shows up to rescue her in the form of her super hot neighbor and his adorable niece. He stirs up feelings that she didn’t know she could have, and certainly never felt with her ex’s. Brian Murphy is content with his life up in the mountains. He’d built a successful company that he left in the capable hand of his best friend, long left his cheating and money grubbing ex-wife, and he’s now raising his niece Lainey in peace. That peace starts unraveling when he gets a new neighbor who evokes feelings that he thought he’d buried with his marriage, feelings even stronger than he ever felt for his ex. Throw in a custody battle, an ex who doesn’t get what breaking up means, and an attraction that hits super nova levels, and you have quite a story!
With characters you cannot help but love and the sweetest plot I could not help but fall in love with this little family on the mountain in their own little world. Full of adorable moments and scenes that tug on the heart strings there is both romance and family moments that lead to a heartwarming novel.
Brian is a bear of a character with a personality to match… which is probably best he lives isolated on a mountain with his daughter and travels to town when needed. Then his own tiny piece of paradise is invaded by a fuller than life Amanda he does not know what to do with himself.
Amanda is full of life and ready for a new start which is what life on the mountain refurbishing her late grandmother’s home offers. Amanda cannot help but fall for Brian and his little girl and they soon become a little family I cannot help but gush over.
There is some hiccups and bumps in the road that adds to the plot of the book. The trials and how they are overcome add to the overall experience. This is a book that will touch your heart and left me with a smile on my face. I challenge you not to exclaim in adoration.

3,5 Amanda leaves new york where she was trying to work as an artist, but then she discovers she inherited the house of her grand mother, in the south. She’s quite happy to leave her ex boyfriend who can’t understand they broke up a month ago. When she arrives in the cabin, she finds a ruin and hurt herself in the stairs. She’s helped by the neighbor ( Brian), an hermit who lives next the cabin, with his niece (Lanie). Brian takes care of her, but her biological father tries to have her custody, only to have money from Brian. He has trust issues with women and he tries to fight his attraction to Amanda, but when Lanie’s father wants the little girl, Brian needs to find something to do. The story is simple and well written, with some hot sex scenes. I liked Brian characters even if he reacts strangely sometimes, but I find Amanda too nice, mainly towards her ex. I wanted to shake her to awake her : when it’s over, it’s over. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
