Marigold’s troubles begin with her incarceration for a crime she did not commit…
In Igneous, the sentence for offending a shifter is imprisonment. The penalty for doing it again is death.
Marigold must escape and find freedom in a new land, but will the handsome dragons who uncover her fugitive status lead her to true love, or true ruin?
Hated is the prequel to the Goldilocks and the Three Dragons trilogy. Get your copy now and start the reverse harem paranormal romance adventure!
Poor Marigold has about the worst luck I've seen, getting into trouble for things she didn't really do and some she needed to do. She goes from one bad situation to another. She thinks things are looking up at times, only for something else to happen. In truth she's a good person trying to survive and move on from her circumstances. Lifefe is just not letting that happen. She is a very pretty girl, who has caught the eye of a Dragon shifter. However, he wants to be part of the kings regiment. His goal is to concentrate on training, to make his dream come true. So, she's not sure what will happen there, if anything. Plus, she's not crazy about shifters.
When the book ends Marigold. is in a very precarious situation.
This prequel certainly does it's job, of grabbing your attention and making you want more. It starts out quickly with something happening, she has no idea why, but will take this rare good fortune. Or so she thought it was until she finds out what she's to do for her probation. Then all goes down hill, except for one act of kindness. The characters seem strong and likable, as is the story line that starts out with a bang and leaves you dyeing for more.
I liked reading this prequel, it really got my attention from the start. From what I read it looks like it'll be a good solid, fast paced series full of mishaps.
I received an ARC copy and, this is my honest review.
This was an amazing prequel that made me so excited to continue the series! Interesting plot line, fun characters, and who doesn’t like a fairytale retelling? Add that to a reverse harem romance and you’ve got the perfect book.
Thanks to amazon kindle and the author for the free book on kindle!
I got this for free from Amazon a few weeks/months ago and when i was looking for something to distract me from an emotionally laden scene in another book I was reading at the time I saw it on my Kindle.
Hated served its purpose perfectly. It not only distracted me and made me feel light enough to go back to the other book but it also made me curious enough to pick the first book of this series. So it was a win-win situation!
Hated is the prequel to Delia Castel’s new Reverse Harem series based on Goldilocks. Castel has a talented way of taking the characters and basic concepts of a known fairy tale and transforms it into something new and original. This series, especially, is not a kid’s version! That said, if you like fairy tales with an edge, I highly recommend trying Ms. Castel’s work. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The ARC copy of this book has left me spellbound. Marigold has been fighting to survive prison when her only inheritance is unjustly called stolen goods. Then she's supposed to serve 'parole' to human traffickers! The only way out is to become a criminal herself and run, hoping that the next kingdom will provide a fresh start. But it too is ruled by a shifter elite. She really could use some kindness, but by the end of the volume, it's still not showing itself and I nearly despaired.
If only the other characters who showed her mercy weren't in their own predicaments! Even shifter elites have troubles in this fairy-tale world. I simply must know where the Happily ever after starts!
Reverse fairy tales has become one of my favorite genres to read lately and this particular story left me pining for more. Marigold shows some of the fierceness and determination befitting a hero in this prequel. I can’t wait to see how she grows in her full series. Hopefully she gets her happy ending, but not too soon because the series is just beginning.
Nothing happy in this story, that sets up the series. The h is terribly vulnerable and as a result she's on the run. The H is very young, fails at entering military type school. I didn't like how this was such a sad world with weak characters. No doubt they will become stronger, but this did not engage me at all.
Well this was a slump buster. And the begin of a binge I think. A total tease of a novella, I need more, right now. Thankfully there is more to be had. Super fun fairytale retelling, with a feisty MC, and Dragons!
Marigold was thrown in jail because she stole her necklace back from an arrogant noble who took it from her. Now she is free, but not many people want to hire her. She runs away from the city, and vows to find a way to live in a neighboring area, where the authorities hopefully won’t find her. Nevetheless, the trouble follows her. Now, she has been swept up into the world of dragon shifters.
This short prequel tells the story of Marigold’s journey from prison, to the city where the next few stories in the series are most likely going to take place. It also explains the backstory of Marigold’s character.
There isn’t much character development here because it is a prequel to the first novel. The most character activity is in the form of telling Marigold’s story and seeing the world through her eyes.
There is definitely quite a bit of world-building, as we get to see how the prison system works in Marigold’s world and how the nobles treat their citizens. Once we get to the shifters, we also see how the military works and how the different cities are connected.
The plot moves rather quickly in this novel, but it is only a couple of days that we get to see in this prequel. It ends right before the next book is going to start, and I can’t wait to read Bated and find out what happens next!
There were no editing or formatting errors in the story.
I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reverse-harem adult romance and fairy tale retellings.
I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
Reverse harem and a fairytale retelling? A combination way too attractive for me to resist. Marigold escaped her prison and a fate maybe even worse, but now on the run, she enters an unfamiliar country on her own, running from the consequences of her actions and fearing the uncertain future. Ella's help is the sunshine in her misery, but her relief is short-lived, when being at a wrong time at wrong place throws her back to danger.. This prequel of Goldilocks retelling is breathing with life, a living entity of its own. You do not feel as if reading a book - you feel like living it, all the images just a blink far, the landscapes at your fingertips. You can smell, hear and feel the story, the magic in the words is that strong. With an interesting heroine with a knack for bad luck now living in the land of dragons, this story has a pull I was not able to break and let myself immense deep into this new adventure.
I downloaded Hated as a free ebook from Amazon. Unlike many serialized installments or prequels, this read more like the first few chapters of a full-length book. No conclusion to a theme or plot, simply opening chapters of a larger story. Ends abruptly without resolving any sub-plots or story lines, and without developing any relationship/friendship with any male protagonists.
I’ve read other books by Cordelia Castel (writing here as Delia Castel for some reason), mainly her Seven Kingdoms books, and really enjoyed them so it was a no-brainer to try out Hated: Goldilocks and The Three Dragons Trilogy Prequel, though quite honestly the title itself would’ve grabbed me. Let me tell you, this is one fine (ie, yummy) reverse harem tale and a really wild reimagining of the classic fairytale. (Delia had me with dragon shifters). I loved this introductory story and really enjoyed following Marigold along. Frankly the prelude did exactly what it was supposed to: make me really look forward to the actual series. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
This story is the prequel to Delia's series, and I do enjoy re-tellings of classic tales with a naughty twist. This one is a re-telling of Goldilocks, but it is different enough that if you never read Goldilocks it's a good story on its own. The hero, Marigold, took a necklace back from an asshole aristocrat who stole it from her in the first place. This lands her in jail, and ruins her life after she gets out. She vows to avoid all trouble, but inevitably trouble follows her like a stray dog until she finds herself smack in the middle of dragon shifters. Although I personally would have liked the prequel to be a tad bit longer, this was a great intro to Delia's writing ability (which is quite good).
Marigold has just been released from a year of being wrongly incarcerated at women's correctional house because of a crooked shifter in a land where humans have no rights. Escaping a brothel that she was suppose to work in for six months, boarding a stagecoach to another part of the country is robbed by an official and while looking for work in the new state while looking for work finds two dragons have been murdered and she is in danger.
A young woman's story of just trying to get to the human colony. The perils of her orphan journey through shifter territory.
This is amazing! It has a raw sensuality involved that draws you into it. You feel so bad for Marigold and you are constantly rooting for her. You want her to defeat the deviant pigs that are out there. You are on her side. She is your hero. You want to hear her story and you want her to live happily ever after. I have to read the next book. It is my new drug of choice... I absolutely love this author!!
Delightful introduction to the unfortunate Marigold. In a shifter world where humans are the lowest of the low, Marigold goes from one unfortunate circumstance to another. Yet, she still seeks to do what is right. She is a most wonderful character. I look forward to learning more about her through the series.
This was in my TBR list for a while and wish had read it before. Started as it meant to go on...great pace, lots of detail but not too much, and the story...wow!! If this is any indication of the rest of the series then will have to take time off work because I won't be able to put them down
Well this prequel sucked me right in and made me want more! A dark twist on the children's fairytales that we grew up with. More reminiscent of Grimm fairytales. Marigold seems to perpetually be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This prequel ends with a cliffhanger and I'm excited to see where the series goes!
I enjoyed this story, but the hanging ending was extremely irritating, hence 4 instead of 5 stars. However, I’m not vexed enough to stop here. I want to know what happens to Marigold!
Quick and informative prequel to the series. The way the scene is explained is very helpful and descriptive. I like the map at the beginning of the book for reference. No steam. 1st POV Interested in the next book
There wasn't enough time to get to know the characters and understand the story line. I honestly don't know if I would like this book or not. I'm not willing to read more based on this sample, prequel.
Perfect start to what looks to be a great series. Being a prequel this is short and yet gives you a good overview of the MC Marigold and the world she lives in; and how shifter society works and the humans fit into this world. Looking firward to starting the next book.
Definitely a retelling of Goldilocks and Cinderella is thrown in there too. I like it. It’s a prequel so it ends with a cliffhanger. I’m intrigued enough to read book 1. I definitely wanna know what happens next.
Definitely caught my attention and held it. Has a fairytale theme going on which is cool. Humans live side by side with shifters, except are looked down upon as a lesser species. Great prequel and I hope the series continues as great as this short story.
Well written just incomplete. This "prequel" would fit better at the beginning of book 1. It is not good as a stand alone short story, as it is being billed. I would rate it 4 stars if completed.
This is a short prequel to a trilogy, but it was a great read. I had it done in under an hour. One of my favorite reads of the year, I am hoping to read the rest of the series soon.
